There's a part of the playground for little kids and a part for bigger kids, as well as a sandbox to play in as well (there's woodchips over most of the ground). We also used the park bathrooms while there which were clean, though slightly smelly. We didn't use, but also saw tennis courts, a baseball field, a pool + splash pad, a basketball court, many swinging benches, and multiple pavilions. Visited this state park for the first time earlier this month and had a blast!…read more I parked at what I think is the main lot, up above the mill itself. I didn't take a tour of the mill (which the park volunteers and staff do offer throughout the day) but I did walk through it and read the information in it about the history of the mill. Definitely enjoyed exploring and learning. That said, I was really there for the trails, so I spent most of my day hiking. I took a loop trail down from the mill and back (with a detour up a short trail to some falls) and it was great! I love being outside and I love a good challenge; these trails were not paved or even at all and I had a great workout navigating them. During hydration breaks I'd find a nice rock to sit on by the water, which was wonderful. It was noisy as heck by the mill because of the families, but the further out I got the more peaceful it got. Definitely met my goal of unplugging for a day during my trek on the trails. I want to come back in the future and begin to try to walk the Slippery Gorge Trail, as it sounds like the gorge is another beautiful part of the park. But that is definitely a long term goal, because that trail is not a short one! I loved visiting this park and I'd be back for sure. To everyone else, PLEASE remember water and wear the proper footwear - while I enjoyed my walk in the park, these trails are definitely not a walk in the park!

It's only about 40 miles north up I-79, so it's an easy drive from the city, but it feels like a completely different world once you get down into the gorge. I've been going there for years with friends and family, and it became my go-to spot to take people when they would visit from out of town. Everyone always loves checking out the historic old gristmill and the red covered bridge right next to it. It's a great, classic view, and if you go during the summer, they usually open up the mill for tours so you can see how it all used to work. The hiking there is fantastic, too, with a good mix of trails depending on what you're up for. You can take a pretty easy walk back to Hell's Hollow Falls, or you can tackle the rougher, rockier trails that run right along Slippery Rock Creek. You definitely want to wear sturdy shoes because the terrain gets steep and the rocks get slick, but the scenery with the rushing whitewater and massive boulders is totally worth it. It's just a beautiful, simple place to get outdoors for a few hours. Whether you want a challenging hike or just want to sit by the water and look at the old bridge, it never disappoints.

The trail is mainly concrete at the onset, so this can be a little harder on your feet. What I enjoy most, is watching happy dogs, walking the trail with their owners! People are very friendly here and will say hello. This park is connected to a beautiful town, where people are that friendly, so don't be alarmed! On a Sunday afternoon, you will find lots of runners passing you and bicycles too, so just be careful and stay to the right.

It is a smooth 50 minute drive from downtown Cleveland. Taking 422 most of the way there with back roads the remainder. I was there in know time doing the speed limit. There are a few locations to pull off I noticed. So make sure you choose the Nelson Kennedy Ledges state park for gps. Have walking tennis shoes or boots on. Do not wear flip flops. The trail can be a challenge in anything else. You will fall in love with the beauty of nature. And of course the glass bridge is something that is amazing. I throughly enjoyed it and am already planning it trip back next month. Get there. You'll be glad that you listened and went.

An update to my review for Nelson-Kennedy Ledges State Park. This is a relatively small park, only…read moreabout 1 mile long, but it is packed with plenty of fun. There are a number of marked paths through the ledges, plus there are even more side trails and ways to experience the wonders of nature. There are 2 waterfalls, one big one at the North end of the park and a second shorter one near the South end. Of the 4 marked trails, the red trail is my favorite since it is the most challenging with some great rock scrambling. You want to be careful since there are some real cliffs and places where you can hurt yourself if you are not careful, but it also has more fun packed into it than any other park in the area. They have announced a new glass walkway over the Southern waterfall which I will have to get out and check soon. Go out and play.

What an awesome place to kayak! There are so many coves to paddle through. I enjoy the coves as it is quiet and peaceful and I can sit back in the shade and read my book and eat my snacks. My husband loves this place as he loves to fish and he has been doing pretty well catching fish in the kayak. We have an enjoyable time every time that we are on this lake. Actually this is our favorite spot so far. We have explored so much of this lake but it is so big that it will take us a long time to explore the rest of it and we are totally fine with it. We can't wait to get back on this lake and kayak around. Hmmm maybe today haha!!

Blue hen falls I…read morestarted at the Boston visitor center. It's a great starting point for hiking. They have restrooms and a visitor center. I popped in before the hike to talk to a ranger about some possible options. I wanted to do the blue hen falls trail which is located across the street. The trail is 1.5 miles each way and ends at the falls. There is some elevation and stairs but I beautiful waterfall to view. Since I wanted to extend my hike a little longer I continued on the buckeye trail and was along the river part of the hike. I see a hawk fly low in the tree and several birds and frogs along the adventure.

The layout of the "park" makes it feel like a constellation of loosely connected pockets of nature in an otherwise developed suburb. I visited the major sites, including Brandywine Falls, Beaver Marsh, and the Ledges. They were fine, some decent hikes and views of different natural formations. Did I feel like I was seeing something truly unique, a natural wonder? No. Of the 20+ parks I've been to, Cuyahoga Valley struck me as the most ordinary and least cohesive experience thus far.

Exploring the trails were the reason we came to this location this afternoon. We did bring our dogs and kept them on leash the full time without any issues! The dogs loved the fresh air & being in nature. If possible I would deduct a half star for the user friendliness of the trails. The trails intertwined, overlapped, & were not marked well for first timers. There was a post with multiple trails at the start & a map. However, there were not any other markers after, even when the trails overlapped & intersected. Overall a wonderful location!! Just plan some extra time to trouble shoot the trails if your a first timer like we were!
