Very nice park. It is very large with lots of pavilions and play areas. This is the Dogwood Shelter.

Visited for the annual Friends of Firstmerit picnic. The Dogwood Shelter is very spacious and we'll equipped. Could have had a better heat source then just a fireplace, but it was still nice. The overall park large and has a lot of shelters, pavilions and play areas. Perfect place to bring your family! They also have boat launch areas for Wingfoot Lake and plenty of parking. Definitely recommend the park for pretty much any occasion.

The Goodyear blimp docks near Wingfoot Lake State Park.

Great Ohio State Park, only a 15 minute drive from Kent. From Akron this park would only be about 20 minutes on I76. The Goodyear blimp docks next to the park. There are metal swinging benches over looking the lake. I believe that the bird in my pictures is a falcon. I was using the zoom on my camera, as to not approach wildlife. There is ample space at this park for weddings, picnics, and games.

Wingfoot State Park is a wonderful place to host a special event like a wedding, class reunion, family gathering, or business outing. It's also fantastic to take a trip here to enjoy the dog park, beautiful wooded surroundings, view of the lake, and blimp hanger. Sometimes you can even spot the Goodyear blimp taking off or coming in for landing at the hangar across the way! In addition to the nice walking paths, pavilions, and views they also have playground equipment; basketball, bocce, and volleyball courts; putt-putt golf; a great (and popular) disc golf course; and even some paddle boats for rent. The pavilions are super reasonable to rent - the largest is a lodge style space that can be enclosed or with doors open which has lighting and a sound system built in and it's $350 a day. Other pavilions vary in style and all are even cheaper with the makings for a lovely wedding, other event, or picnic in beautiful surroundings.

Normally a great park, but came today to rent a boat. Website says open at 11am. Several families here waiting, but not open.

I love how the family was linked to the Seiberling family. (Basically they were in the railroad industry and transported their tires). The house is large, but not flashy nor extravagant. There is a number of things to see and explore ; from The Manor House( the former H.B. If you have children, there is a wonderful nature center with hands on activities, a large playground and live animals such as owls & hawks. You can also enjoy camping, plenty of hiking trails & even cross-country skiing during the colder months. My best friends had their wedding ceremony in the garden last summer...a lot of great options for pictures from a stone arch wall, the gazebo to the beautiful flowers themselves. There are also horse trails available as well as geocatching, a gift shop & a concessions stand with ice cream, etc.

Towner's Woods Park - No water access, but still beautiful scenery!

Towner's Woods has some of the finest trails in the region, contained within a variety of environments. Near the park's entry, there is gorgeous Lake Pippin. Although water access isn't permitted because it is owned by the city of Akron (used for their water supply), some of the trails provide a scenic, somewhat hilly walk alongside it. The historic Hopewell burial mound (marked by an arrowhead on the map) is also near this entry portion of the park. The geography also includes flatter wetland terrain, a popular sledding hill, and a few ponds scattered throughout the woods. People use the park for trail running, dog walking (only on leash), and even cross country skiiing or snow shoeing in season. You could easily crank out 5-6 miles or more, if you were willing to retrace a few sections of the trail. All routes are well marked and maintained, and it would be hard to get lost in here for too long. Even on sunny weekends, I've been surprised at how sparsely populated the park is. Because of it's sprawling size, it's easy to have a very solitary experience. There are picnic pavilions and benches scattered around for warmer weather. Parking is plentiful just off the Ravenna Road entrance. There are also bathrooms in this area. If you're traveling on foot or by bike (bikes not permitted on the park's interior trails, though), you can get here via the Portage County Hike and Bike Trail. I hope you'll enjoy Towner's as much as I have. Whatever the season, it's an ideal place for a peaceful and active wander.

There is no charge to get in. The paved road around the lake has been split into a one-way driving/biking road and a with an adjacent walking lane. There is a Hike/bike trail called The Freedom Trail that borders this park. Metro Parks Summit County is going to add a connector trail between them in 2026. The Freedom Trail in this area is a rail trail, so it is pretty flat. There is an area called Tallmadge Meadows that to me is a separate park, because the two areas have very different prior ownership and history, but Metro Parks considers them to be the same park. The parking for Tallmadge Meadows is right around the corner from South River Rd. on South Main St. (Rt 91). There is also a trailhead in Munroe Falls for the Summit County Bike and Hike Trail. It is about a ¼ mile North of South River Rd and runs along the Cuyahoga River. I used to be a Firefighter/EMT in Munroe Falls and it was not unusual for us to get called out to the "Metro Park" and have to ask, "which one"?
