"Review #500" :-D…read more October 31, 2024 On Friday October 4th I attended a Beautiful Fall wedding at The Pine Knob Mansion for My Dear and Close friends Phil & Jessica. The main road entrance starts with a welcome sign to Pine Knob Golf Course. The winding road will lead you pass the greens with golfers, then several expensive residential homes. There are two venue banquet buildings called The Carriage and this one called The Pine Knob Mansion. Both have valet parking service at their entrance doors. My photos attached will show how wonderful this place was from start to finish. The ceremony was outside in the Garden Gazebo area overlooking the ski lifts and property of Pine Knob with fold up chairs on the grass area. This venue can accommodate all seasons of the year for many memorable and personal events. The outdoor brick patio was large enough for both cocktail hour after ceremony and again in the evening with a DJ for music and dancing. The Bride and Groom performed their special dances together on it plus with their parents. The wedding and party time continued till midnight! The efficient servers were very attentive when eating the plated sit-down dinner. They also served refill of waters quickly too. The Formal banquet room was very elegant with Chiavari Chairs, along with great lighting. Check out my attached photos of Jess and Phil's special and lovely wedding which expresses it all! I don't know what the prices are so it's really hard to comment on how that would work but from looking at some of the offices I saw there in they're two story building, someone could basically hold a meeting in the meeting space, have lunch in the lunch area with a client, and then have their own private workspace. Absolutely beautiful campus with sheep and goats and a big white furball of a dog who looks so adorable but is trained to kill any possible threat to his wards. The Longacre House in Farmington Hills, Michigan is a registered local historic site. A sign is…read moreposted outside that reads: "Luman W. Goodenough (1873-1947), prominent Detroit Attorney, charter member and first president of the Detroit Rotary Club, acquired this building and land surrounding it in 1915, naming it the Longacre House. The earliest portion was erected in 1869 by Palmer Sherman. The twentieth century saw several additions here including the impressive six-foot high stone wall constructed in 1917 along the east property line. In 1969, Goodenough heirs gave this handsome Georgian manor home and five acres of land to the Farmington area to be used as a community center. This facility hosts conferences and club meetings, numerous weddings and receptions, and recreation courses in crafts and the arts. Local citizens are proud of the Longacre House, which is an area landmark." I attended my fiancee's good friend's pellikoduku at the Longacre House. (A pellikoduku is a traditional Indian pre-wedding ceremony for the groom.) This house is located about 25 miles from downtown Detroit. It takes a little over 30 minutes to get to the house from downtown Detroit without any traffic. The house is owned and operated by the City of Farmington Hills. This is a beautiful historic brick home that's been well-maintained, inside and out. The outside is picturesque with finely-manicured lawns and nicely-landscaped grounds. I made sure to get a picture with my fiancee in front of the house where there is a nice brick pathway and colorful plants and flowers. The event took place inside what I believe is the Longacre House's main event space. It looks like a living room (with fireplace) that has been converted and combined with perhaps a back porch or patio area to serve as an open event space. There were five round white tablecloth tables set up with place settings (each table seating 12 people) along with buffet-style catered food and drink. The event space had a drink and dessert station while the salad, entrees, and sides were set up in a separate room nearby. The house was simple with minimal decor - nice chandeliers, curtains, and hardwood floors. There's a small garden and gazebo outside. I believe dinner catering was provided by Longacre House's in-house catering group, Gourmet Express Catering & Event Planning Group based out of South Lyon, Michigan. We had glasses of a fruit drink with slices of strawberry, purple grapes, and Mandarin oranges. Dinner consisted of spinach salad with croutons, an herb rice risotto, asparagus, lasagna, and a potato dish with vegetables cooked-in such as chopped carrots and squash. There was a coffee and dessert station with both regular and decaf coffee plus assorted dessert bites including what looked like brownie squares and baklava. In general, I thought the food was good. I love greens and vegetables so I got seconds on the spinach and asparagus. This was a fairly straightforward event. Aside from dinner, there was a pre-dinner gathering, sort of like a cocktail hour, where people mixed and mingled. After dinner, the actual pellikoduku activities commenced. There was also a mehndi (Indian body art) artist who applied red-orange mehndi "stains" to many of the female guests. Longacre House staff were present, but they were fairly hands-off as the food and drink were self-serve. They mainly made sure the food and drink stations were in order, replenished as needed, and cleared finished dinner plates. They were professionally (formally) dressed, polite, and did a good job throughout the night. If you get a chance to check out other rooms of the house or take a look around outside at the grounds, you should. It's a neat place to explore. There's plenty of parking too which is convenient for guests.

If you're expecting decorations, don't. They put two stupid large Christmas lights up in the dining room. It's a telltale sign many others feel the same way because 40 min into the 11 am seating, half the patrons got up and left. Oh, and don't even think about coming here if you or a loved one aren't able to walk up a long flight of stairs. Apparently, all of their elevators are broken.

And, by the way, if you're going to make it a true castle theme, you probably shouldn't give your banquet rooms names like "Raphael" since I'm pretty sure he wasn't a) English or Welsh or any type of Celt, or b) alive during the time of "castles." On to things of real importance, the food was okay. The green beans were salty, the lemon chicken too tough. Oh, and why weren't there coffee cups at every place setting? Tsk, tsk, people had to scavenge. Not good for a wedding reception. And your waitstaff? A little too harried-acting for a reception that didn't top over 150. Seemed a bit suspicious. The open bar wasn't too bad but please try to stock up with something other than zinfandel and chardonnay in the white wine category. I also think the self-serve maraschino cherry/lime wedge/lemon wedge/olive/stirrer thing was a little too much self, and not enough serve. Do you think Cinderella would have been okay with getting her own maraschino cherry on her big night with the Prince? Yeah, didn't think so. I'm sorry if I offend any Michiganders with my review. I'm sure there are those of you who absolutely love it. And, in a way, I love the fact that you love it. But this is about my opinion. So I leave it be as it is.

Dream Scene hosted our Girl Scouts End-of-the-Year Party. Our girls had a blast! It was such an…read moreadorable venue. Everything is centered around little girls. The colors, decorations, quotes, and sparkles everywhere made the little girl in me smile. My daughter and her friends enjoyed a little dancing, scavenger hunt, team building activities, a few crafts, and some cotton candy. The staff were so friendly and sweet to our girls. They offer so many wonderful ideas to make for a great experience in celebrating anything a girl could dream. They also have a lot of space for it too. We will definitely be back to host our own.
