It's nice and bright in here now! We had a comfortable booth facing main street which entertained my kiddos--and their kids menu is very reasonable! Service was a little slow - it took quite a while for our drinks, and our appetizer never arrived (not sure what happened there). But our server was otherwise great and the food was good. Decided to have dinner with my wife two nights ago...We ordered a couple of burgers w/fries, one appetizer, a soft drink and a glass of wine. $71.00 plus tip. The burgers looked great; however, lacking in flavor. When we asked for some mayo, to provide some flavor, we were charged and additional. $2.00‍. To be honest, we should have gone to Culver's. Terrible experience! We went in at 8pm. No "hello" just "seat yourself." Then we asked for coffee. The waiter told us that they were done serving coffee for the day and "the dishes were already washed" and we needed to "choose something else." So we got water. I got a burger, asked for medium and it came out like a hockey puck. Over well done. The zuccini was gritty - one bite and you could loose a filling. Makes me wonder if it was even washed before they cooked it. THEN there was the worst thing - there was a young man, at the bar, with a Marlboro hat on VAPING!!!!!! Talking to our waiter VAPING!!!! Chilling out with our waiter VAPING!!! THE WAITER SAID NOTHING!!! I was under the impression that this was a smoke free environment?!?! THEN before the vaping guy left - after an hour of just sitting there vaping with his feet kicked up, "chilling" with our waiter, and I think maybe a waitress(dark hair) - he started talking to our waiter about a schedule. DOES HE WORK THERE????? And was our waiter a manager? You have GOT to be kidding me! My elderly mother asked for a refill of her water and the waiter said "it will be a few minutes" .. Then everyone kept coming to try to get our plates at 8:45 ... to rush us through our unfinished food!!!!! wow ...... THIS PLACE IS A JOKE! Unhealthy environment! Rude! Since my last review I had family visit from out of town in August & wanted to take them somewhere great for a good breakfast. Three of us ordered the Cali Benny after I raved about it. All of the Cali Benedict's came out after a long wait w/ hard boiled eggs, yuck. I was so upset after telling my family about this meal. The waitress took all 3 back but said it cannot be remade because they ran out of the sauce... What? I know it's pretty basic - eggs, butter, lemon and salt & pepper. Ridiculous. We have been here for supper and have had great meals and service. This time, we decided to try Sunday brunch while visiting family. Our server, Daniella, was on point. My wife had a veggie omelet, and I had the "Early Bird", which consists of 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, 2 slices of bacon, and your choice of 2 crepes. I chose the Banana Hazel, which includes sliced bananas and Nutella. I think this will be my "go to" on future visits. Kudos to The Ox! read more

returning customer. but was shell shocked by what i saw today! the bartender didn't seem to care about what she was doing or serving.i ordered drinks and calamari appetizer sauce tasted like tomato soup..... first getting served a drink without sour mix and was gagging, she then began training another bartender behind the bar and started cutting fruit right in-front of me without gloves! and no one washed their hands! makes me wonder if they wore gloves while making my dinner salad...... or when's the last time they washed their hands. which she mentioned to the trainee. not only did my salad come out with brown lettuce.....i then ordered a steak, the kitchen brought it out and the food runner was the sweetest. steak was super bland and had a texture like pork, not beef.... i then waited patiently as she was training or acting like she was and then had to ask for a second drink. she then slapped my bill infront of me..... i never asked to cash out. so once again had to wait then asked about a dessert menu. she said they didn't have one and rambled off a few things she thought they had. so then asked a server(the one with the longer ponytail! now he knows what he's doing!) he provided her with the actual dessert menu. i literally had to upsell her to even care about serving. no motivation what so ever and seems clueless so after i went to sign my bill i looked at my hand and it was covered in ink! asked for a towel and she looked pissed i mentioned it was all over my hand. the male server with the pony tail offered me his own pen lol very polite and proper! the girl behind the bar has no business training anyone.... you don't tell a trainee you don't care about liquor counting or pour counts. like what are we doing right now! she needs to learn to upsell and do her job properly before ever training anyone. and it was really crappy service and i didn't run her i was sitting solo at the bar. not slapping a bill infront of a customer who was no where near ready to cash out. and seemed burdened by me not putting my card out as she paced by. and never asked if i wanted anything else i had to ask for my entree second drink and dessert manager seemed clueless, and didn't seem to care at all. i've been in this business for 20'years and have done it all. and this was extremely alarming and concerning read more

Six of us came on a quiet Sunday afternoon for a family get together. Parking was easy and behind the restaurant. The OX Bar & Grill is in the heart of downtown Oxford, so it is easy to spot from the main road. Place was not busy at all and we were seated right away. I noticed the high ceilings right away. The decor is a little outdated with some track lighting, the colors, and furniture. However, the place felt clean and comfortable. I was impressed with the size bar! The menu is pretty big and a random assortment of options - tex-mex, to typical bar food, to even brunch. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. Bathroom was super dark and a little dirty with trash being on the ground. I went with tex-mex - tortilla soup which had a good amount of tortillas on top. I also got the pork tostadas for my main meal. The portion was good but the flavor was lacking. Pork did not taste like much and there was no sauce. A dry taco. Not sure how impressed I am with The OX Bar & Grill? But worth another chance, just maybe not go with tex-mex next time. read more

Just another overpriced mediocre restaurant. Our dinner club usually chooses an ethnic restaurant to try out, but that restaurant had closed early due to an emergency. So, the Ox was nearby, NOT MY CHOICE. We each had a different entree, and agreed food was fair, to "somewhat" tasty, but nothing to brag about nor reason to return! Nothing worth the prices we paid! OX is yet another overpriced restaurant charging customer who use a credit card. If prices were more reasonable, perhaps a CC would not be necessary in order to pay. Ambiance restaurants should NOT have televisions in every direction, then again it's a bar & grill, not a restaurant. read more

Oxford isn't at a loss for restaurants and particularly mid priced at that so for a late lunch with EH and beau we chose The Ox. Ok it was also oppressively hot and I was in front of it but I digress. Late lunch is obviously a slack time as only a few tables were occupied. Mainly a dinner place I guess judging by the crowds I see at night. We were seated immediately, drink orders taken and our app came out in lighting speed, chips with queso, a good if messy start. EH had a avacado southwest salad that she made quick work of. Paddle boarding friend had enchiladas with arroz y frijoles that looked like it was for a catering order! I had the Traverse City Salad with chicken that was very good except for no French or thousand island dressing. Hey boomer! I know but come on ketchup, check, mayo, check relish, check add spoon, stir....... but alas no. Extensive menu will have to wait. All in a nice spot for lunch in a crowded Oxford restaurant market. Amazing service on a Saturday night!! The Monte Cristo sandwich was Supurb and brought half home there was so much on the plate! The raspberry sauce served with my sandwich was excellent!! My tea glass was never empty! The hubs had fish and chips(disappointed that there were no onion rings on the menu!) Most of the food is good. So almost in choice is safe. However, they have homemade cheese sticks unlike any other I have ever had !!! Off the charts, and so are the ranch and the marinara sauce they bring with it. They are double the size of any other "normal" cheese sticks I have had previously. Unreal. read more

This place is the awesome hidden little gem that does not get enough talk around in our town. The burgers are pretty decent but the rice bowls are amazing and they have great salads. The last time we were here we got the Baja chicken and the Pollo Verde bowls and they were both amazing. Abound the nachos and quezon it's only average at best and tastes like something out of a jar. Disappointing! I searched yelp for a decent breakfast place and the menu at the ox for brunch sounded good and the pictures looked great. Don't let that fool you. Food is not as advertised. I ordered Nutella stuffed French toast. There was no Nutella stuffing, just some drizzled on top. My husband and I never got any drink refills, nor were we even offered any since our waitress barely came to our table, even though the restaurant was almost empty! While finishing our beers a lady started pulling out all the bar stools and even pulled the one right next to me and started sweeping. Good, filling entrees served by exceptional wait staff in an environment that is comfortable and lively. We really enjoyed the spinach artichoke dip served with perfectly salted and crunchy tortilla chips. We shared the special of the day: chicken gyro wrap with fries. It is tasty. The iced tea hit the spot on a warm summer day. Good choice for a sports bar. The staff are attentive and friendly. Kudos to the training they receive. Perfect for this type of restaurant. Bar service was ok. Don't understand why some beers are given in smaller sizes dispute similar alcohol content and price. The chips in our appetizer were stale, the fried cheese balls were just fried mush. Basil was brown and very wilted. Clearly they needed to replenish their stock. Also there was a bit of napkin floating in a bar glass, showing the bartender cutting corners in cleanliness. I can see why they scored a 'B' in the health department score. read more

I've worked in a restaurant for years and that amount should have NEVER been closed out. It should have been voided before the server ever left the building. But instead they just ran my card AGAIN for $41.00. I've been told that's it's "still pending and that I need to just wait a couple days and the money would be back in my account." This is really more of a 2.5 star place, but we were there with a big party and our waitress was fabulous so I rounded up. The menu offers a pretty big variety. Here's something you don't see on the menu every day: German potato salad. I didn't have it but someone in our party did. While the food was good, I wasn't blown away by anything. The chicken tortilla soup was very tasty and comforting for a cold winter's day after walking around a Christmas tree farm. Some of the meal choices at our table - pizza (given 2 thumbs up by the kids), fish tacos, a Reuben, steak fajitas, chicken kebabs, and a pasta dish. Like I said, a wide variety of food, and everyone was satisfied but nobody raved about anything. Would I go back - yes, for sure. The waitress was super attentive and everyone was very friendly.
