Kenyon is home to one of the most exciting athletic centers of any small college in the country. Spacious, welcoming, architecturally stunning, and equipped with top-flight facilities, the Kenyon Athletic Center opened in January 2006. Soaring glass walls, arching steel trusses, and sleek lines make for a dramatic design. Open views and abundant natural light throughout the building promote the friendly interactions that shape Kenyon's spirit of community. In 2020, the Kenyon Athletic Center was renamed the Lowry Center to honor William E. Lowry Jr. '56 H'99, a three-sport Kenyon athlete. The building features the 200-meter Barrett A. Toan Indoor Track, an Olympic-sized pool named the James A. Steen Aquatic Center within the Lowry Center, the 1,600-seat Tomsich Arena for basketball and volleyball, the stunning 12,000 square foot state-of-the-art Patterson Fitness Center that houses over 200 pieces of exercise equipment, and the 120-seat Beulah Kahler Theater for game film review and team meetings. In addition to the previously mentioned sections, the Lowry Center also holds ample room for racquetball and squash courts, multipurpose rooms for dance, yoga, and aerobics, several study lounges, a Multi-Activity Court for recreational use, four conference rooms, a café, and substantial locker room space. There was lots of activity like a basketball game in the arena, a swim meet, students working out at the Lowry Center. I swam in the Steen Aquatic Center that was wonderful because the college hosted the Special Olympics Ohio South Central Swim Meet which first class for a NCAA Division III school. The Kenyon Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Teams have won multiple National titles in NCAA Division III. The facilities has lots of historical things of the past accomplishments in sports at Kenyon College. I will have to come back to work out and swim with the help of Kenyon student, facility member, or alumni. It is one the best facilities for a small college because it has every thing that a student, facility member, alumni, and guest needs. Thank you.

However, I applied for a job…read morethere recently, and nothing regarding the application said closed or open, so I emailed the person (Erika Philips), and when I called her to ask about it. Philips gave me what sounded like a rude tone, and, to be quite honest. When you put nothing about open or closed dates for an application, then tell me what essentially was "I saw your email but didn't respond." You don't really have any reason to give me tone for something that was your fault. Anyways that was just my experience. If you have any interest in working at Highlands, I would be wary of who your employer might be.

We even scored a shaded spot, woohoo! The temps were mid 80's, so we were really happy to see plenty of shade so when we got back to the car, we wouldn't be scorched. After checking in (the sister has season passes, so it was really easy), we found three lawn chairs and settled into our space for the afternoon. Towels laid out, sunscreen applied, and we were ready to go. One of the first things I noticed was how clean the place was. There wasn't a single piece of trash in sight and the water was crystal clear. There is a lazy river, two giant slides, a lap pool, a kiddie area, and diving boards! Throughout the afternoon we explore each area but my favorite was definitely the lazy river and slides. There were plenty of life guards on hand and I loved how every hour they offered a 15 minute "adult swim." Over 18 only! However, adults with children under two were also allowed. I will definitely be back this summer with the family and I highly recommend giving this place a visit if you're looking to cool off.

The sandwich was decent. Some bites were better than others. My mom ordered the "Catch of the day" which was two mahi mahi tacos for 23$. And they did not look like 23$ tacos. There's a picture attached of them- and you can decide for yourself. My boyfriend had Buffalo wings and fries. He said the Buffalo wings were just pretty typical. Everyone did like the fries. My dad really liked the club sandwich. I wasn't impressed by this place. Decent food that's a bit pricey.

I chose the garden salad with sweet and sour dressing, and the Blue Cheese Potato Salad. The salad was a fresh mixed of salad greens, topped with fresh cucumbers, diced tomatoes, house made croutons, and grated cheese. The dressing... WOW! Delicious! A perfect balance of sweet, and sour. Not overwhelming, just right. The Potato Salad, again a perfect balance between the tang of the blue cheese and the sweet creaminess of the mayonnaise dressing. It also had a tad of a back end bite that make it perfect. The Seared Chicken was done perfectly for this dish. Tender, yet a bit of char. The peaches were roasted to a perfect peach jam consistency. Thing grandma's homemade jams, except with a thinner consistency. Then a perfectly melted piece of fresh mozzarella, finished with julienned basil. Again, a great balance of sweet and savory, creaminess, and a hint of freshness of the basil. We started off with a drink( already forgotten the name) made with fresh raspberries, lemonade, and vodka blended to a frosty, blissful drink.

The pools are pools, mostly, except... there's this one pool. I call it the "Fun Pool" but I doubt that's an official title. But it is a pool. And it is fun. It is filled with built-in pool toys, like a whirlpool tub (spin!) and a series of chain-pull showerheads (splash!). It's a fun way to cool down from a hard workout over at the RPAC, or just a fun way to swim if you don't want to do laps in the "real" pools. McCorkle also houses saunas- a great combination is to hit the sauna, then hit the pool, then hit the sauna, repeat. I don't know if you're supposed to do this- it's probably unsanitary in some fashion and it's probably unhealthy to so drastically alter your core temperature or whatever blah blah. I love it. So yeah, you could say McCorkle is just a pool facility- and you might as well, if it keeps you from crowding up my fun pool! But really, if you are a student at OSU and you aren't using this place (and the adjacent RPAC) then you are really missing out on some of the better things our fees have paid for in recent years.
