Got money to BURN?! Then, this place is for YOU! I needed an inline switch for a lamp I made. A simple, inline switch. I asked the guy standing by the register for one and he walked me over to them. The heavy duty one? he asked. No, I said, the light-duty version. He took it from the hanger and held it out toward me. Then I saw the price hanging right there in front of us both. SIX DOLLARS AND, LIKE, NINTY-SEVEN CENTS! For ONE?! (Disregard the website price, totally. In-store it's $6.97!) Wait, WHAT?! I told him there was NO WAY I would pay that much! and I left. I drove directly to a Home Depot. I bought TWO of them for $2.97 EACH! Even after taxes, I paid less for two than they wanted for just one and that's BEFORE taxes! On the drive back home, I promised myself I would NOT be installing one of those new switches until I first posted this review. Promise made, promise kept! Time to install my $2.97 switch now! read more

So im looking for stain for the deck. I go to Roselawn Tru value cause its near my location and its buy one get one can.the guy says we are out of the base for which ur color needs to be mixed. Im really need this color to do the job! He says Ill call another store to see if they have base. He calls Cedar Lake and finds out they have what I want and talks to Al the owner of both stores. He hangs up and says Al will hv what u want . Go to Cedar Lake. There are two stores. Hes at the one on West side of lake by Strack n Van Til. Its about a 25-30 min drive . I go there and they only hv one can and I run in to Als brother (the mgr?)whose confused. I tell him the clerk at Roselawn says talk to Al . He says Al isnt here. Finally he calls Al and discovers that Al is at the East store another 2 miles(10 min) away on other side of lake. (Mind u Ive never been over in this area). So no apologies from the brother after I spent 10-15 minutes in that store trying to get Stain. So I drive to east store. I now have spent almost 1 hr since I left Roselawn. I encounter Al. He is in complete disarray, no apologies, looks at my can of old existing stain and says uh this is way different than what i expected. Then spends 5 minutes wiping some stain on floor up before waiting on me. I explain my situation about Roselawn, his other store and all the wasted time I spent to chase this stain down and he starts complaining about his day and how he cant wait for it to end.I hint at some compensation and find none is forthcoming. He packs me up and says have a good day. I look at this man and shake my head and wonder he how stays open with a lack a customer service. And a small ray of goodness appears. His blond headed stock boy whose probably 17-18 yrs old showed me how he knows more about customer service than the owner. He looks at the 4 cans of stain, plus a few brushes and my old can of stain and says can I carry these to your car? Thank you I said. He brought them out and put in back of my car and told me : Sorry to hear of all your problems to get ur stain. Thats all I needed to hear to feel a little bit better. Thanks I told him. Sad to say, his empathy for me was awesome and a bit surprising for a high school lad. Should have come from Al who has not a clue on how to take care of his customers! read more

Spectacular service from this Tru Value store! I've been redoing a duplex apartment and went to this store at least 4 times in 3 days. Walking into the store every time, I have no clue where everything is, but the employees welcome you as when entering the store and ask "is there anything u can help you with". 2 different workers were super helpful at locating exactly what I needed, and they really seemed to know their stuff. They never tried to "up sell" me anything. They had everything needed every time, and located it instantly for me. Saving me lots of precious time trying to locate the items myself. Prices seem to be very close to the big box hardware stores, and I'm willing to pay a bit more for their advise, which actually saved me money with their advice. If one employee didn't know the answer, he asked another employee. Their parking lot always seems empty when I drive by, but I now know the reason for this. People come in and don't have to spend 1/2 hour wandering around looking for stuff. The help from the workers get you in and out fast. read more

Great place to get whatever you need. I have lived here in Cedar Lake for 25 years now and between Lake Shore True Value and Cedar Lake True Value they are always there to help. Even when I don't know EXACTLY what I need or where to find it they are great at figuring out what I'm trying to describe to them. The paint is good quality and I always go there when its time to repaint anything. Never go anywhere else unless they don't have it. Shopping Local is the best!!!! read more
