My experience with ordering my bath vanity and counter top ran into a few problems. To begin, The vanity itself was not what I emailed to my Sales Person. Although pleasant and friendly, she did not follow through on my order and also gave me incorrect delivery dates for both vanity and onyx top, allowing the contract with my very reliable labor crew to lapse before installation was completed. Fortunately, Evan Devine, Shilling's Service Manager was able to get " Custom Cal Homes Remodeling " to complete a perfect installation. I would advise all who order specific cabinetry to not only submit a picture of what they desire but also to sign the exact spec sheet of the Schilling building plan. in addition, before starting a major bath rehab which might demand a cast iron tub breakdown, I would advise waiting until "after" your vanity and top are delivered and accepted. I gave Schilling a 5 star review,not only for a great finished bath rehab, but also for employing stellar personal that was able to make that happen. PITIFUL! THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND PRODUCTS SOLD! I started rehabbing a house in 2017 and sparred no expense as I was looking to have the least maintenance in the future. I spent well over a 100 grand on windows framing lumber sheathing zipboard doors siding fixtures trim decking railings and so much more. I purchased LP siding in late 2018 and was installed into early 2019. I paid extra to have the siding double coated which was presented as a 50 year warranty. Within a couple of years I noticed the siding chalking and the trim opening up like a sponge. In early 2022 I presented this issue to Scott Czapar who was my salesperson that I had been dealing with since day one. Schillings had purchased the LP siding from Cedar Siding INC which has since gone out of business. I spoke to both Scott and Kyle who brought this to the attention of Dean Schillings. I paid 7500 dollars in labor and 1500 in materials to have my house repainted. I was asking Schillings to cover half the cost of materials which was 750 dollars in which they denied. They suggested that the warranty was from the company they bought the siding from. I bought the siding from Schillings not anywhere else. I will not spend 10 cents at their company ever again. Scott Czapar has never been the issue and has always gone above and beyond to address the many issues that came about. Also anyone reading this please go out and look at your siding and see if it has failed! I can guarantee that I am not the only person this has happened to. Tough review to write. Great selection of high end products. Well displayed throughout the store. Was looking for bathroom ideas and literally could not get help from anyone. Yes, they had staff around, just not around me. I waited for help from two different staff and had no luck. I did need a floor vent so I purchased it and told the clerk I struggled with trying to get help. His response, that happens sometimes. No kidding...bad answer. From reading the reviews, I can tell this store does a lot of things right. But service not so good. Can't recommend from my experience....but I do believe they have the capacity to do better and likely do. read more

I really like Shillings so its very to make this complaint and hard to be happy with them now, as my in-laws will spend the next few months in our dining room and not their bed room. The move to our house is difficult enough this not making it any easier. In a post on 11/10/18 they had a door ordering issue , they still in 2022 have not resolved their issues. Again I don't complain much I like shillings but sales force needs to get it together. I wish Ed in Mokena could of done more for us . Like fire someone. I would not recommend. We bought Anderson windows from them and they recommended an installer. The guy working in window department was extremely rude, so much that another employee came over and apologized for his behavior. I should have run then. The installer they recommended was NOT reliable, NOT honest and didn't finish the job. We have improperly installed windows that are leaking. We called Greg Schilling and explained the situation, he did nothing. We spent over $20k...and now will have to spend more to repair the damage. FOLLOW UP--- Greg Schilling, Gary the window salesman & Glen, a window specialist, came to our home to assess the window situation. They agreed the windows were installed properly, didn't see any problem. They acknowledged a little bit of siding damage. Greg told us siding needs to be replaced every 10 YEARS, and we could buy some at Schilling. This spring we went outside and our siding is actually falling off of our house, the inside walls are cracked and damaged as well. We called a company out to assess the damage & do repairs. We didn't give them the backstory. We asked how this happened to our siding, they inspected the windows and said, there is NO FLASHING, no tape, no insulation on these windows, so the water is running down the inside. We had 17 windows replaced by Bob McClymont the contractor Schilling recommended. We now have to have our entire home assessed for damage inside and out. My husband and I are devastated. We have saved and put everything into our home, which we love. We went to Schilling because of their reputation, they are supposed to be the best. We have realized we are very naïve, too trusting, we thought when you go to 'experts' they have your best interest in mind. Apparently when you install new windows in your home, the customer should learn how to install windows to supervise and make sure it's being done correctly. We trusted them. Customers should know, if Schilling recommends a contractor, they DO NOT stand by them, take responsibility for them or guarantee any work! Greg told us that as if it's common knowledge. Shame on you, Schillings $27,000.00 I spent at Schillings for a bathroom (gutted/remodeled) and a 30'x14' screened in porch addition. Supporting family owned companies has always been important. Schillings door salesman, after a 5 minute discussion using the 10' tall French door display, told me he clearly understood which door must be active and the other passive. We are a construction company. Walter B handled the order. Cabinets were ordered end of March . Didn't come in until May. Granite was part of the order . Walter said granite company will come and measure as soon as cabinets were ready and within two days we would have the granite installed. Shilling was told Cabinets would be ready June 17th . Walter informed us that we could not get granite until after July 4th. If you need service or any kind of honest response , this is not the cabinet company to deal with if you want service. read more

I would not recommend Schilling to any one for anything. My husband and I went to Schillings to order a new patio door. We spent hours mulling over finishes and grill styles and finally made a decision. Then, when we were asked for the rough-in measurement, we did not have them. Kelsey wrote up the order of what we decided, and asked for my credit card and signature, Reading the fine print I questioned why I should sign since all orders are final once signed. She told me not to worry, just call in the measurements, finalize the order over the phone and we would not have to drive back to the store once we had measurments. Guess what, Dave Wegman ordered the door without confirmation of measurements and charged my card over $5000.00, I'm not one to just willynilly sign off on anything without reading details, Schilling screwed us - royally. read more

DO NOT TRUST SCHILLINGS OR THEIR IN-HOUSE FLOORING MANUFACTURER SPRING ORCHARD. THEIR FLOORS WERE DEEMED DANGEROUS BY AN INSPECTOR & THEIR WARRANTY CLAIMS PROCESS TOOK 6 MONTHS! We went to Schillings believing that they were a higher end distributor that would rep quality flooring products. Now we're doing what we can to warn everyone to stay away. We've never been so mistreated by a supposedly reputable company. We purchased 1,250sqft of Schilling's in-house manufacturer, Spring Orchard, engineered acacia flooring. We had it installed by our own installer without issue. IMMEDIATELY after installing, we began to clean the floors using a stiffer mop & were alarmed to see the swiffer pull up large splinters in multiple areas. One splinter was 10 inches long! Splinters came up from along the seams and even in the middle of the wood planks. We took a video which we are more than happy to share with anyone considering Schillings. Needless to say, we were shocked. But with a 7 month old (at the time) baby crawling around on the floor, we were genuinely worried about the safety of our child. I went to the Schillings location in St John and spoke with Brett the manager and explained that we were extremely concerned about the safety of our child who could easily be injured by the splinters and showed him the video we took of the problem. I own an insurance business and am a claims adjuster, so I recommended for the sake of a major lawsuit that they remove the product from the floor. Brett watched the video and agreed that the floors needed to be ripped up and that Schillings would take care of us, but that first the manufacturer would need to send out an inspector. 1 MONTH LATER...an inspector finally got in touch with us to schedule an inspection. Meanwhile, the Spring Orchard claims adjuster refused to return EVERY CALL except for the one where he forgot who must have been calling him. I asked for someone above him, and Jeff said he was the top guy. Well, he needs to be fired. The inspector was looking for installation errors and found none. I even showed him how it was a problem on left over boards that were never even installed. He said he would send the report to the manufacturer within 2 weeks and that the process after that typically took another 2 weeks...so a total of a month. 4 MONTHS LATER!!! And probably close to 50 voicemails to Jeff and multiple pleas to Brett for help...we finally got our attorney involved who left a message for both Jeff AND Brett. Voila! Magically, Jeff finally calls back and gives us an excuse about how the previous inspector fell off the face of the earth, disappeared, and never sent the report, and they let it sit. So now they have to send another inspector. In all this time, Brett keeps telling me that there's nothing he can do, its a manufacturer issue (which is BS, Spring Orchard is OWNED by Schillings), and that well, "no one else has had this issue." Inspector #2 shows up about 3 weeks later and says exactly the same thing as the first inspector.... 1 MONTH LATER!!! It's now February, I've literally lost 1 year in my remodel schedule, our 1 year old has been in danger for 6 months (thankfully we watched him very closely and he wasn't injured...if he had, I would have sued them into oblivion), and we've not had a kitchen the whole time because of the delay. So I get a call from Brett who says, "We got the report, it says its a manufacturing issue. So we're going to take care of you. You can have whatever you want. You want a solid product? No problem." I get a call the same day from Jeff that says the EXACT same thing. I go back to the store to pick out new floors and everyone, the flooring guy Jack AND Brett both show us higher quality floors and mention NOTHING about price limitations or any additional cost to us. I say at one point that the additional cost of better flooring wasn't our problem, that it's Schillings problem and every one nodded their heads approvingly. OH, we also find out that it was indeed reported by other buyers. It's now March, and on the advice of "anything you want" Brett and Jeff we picked a high quality solid product, which was difficult to match to our already stained stairwell (so we had limited options). In total, it's only $2,300 higher in price than what we originally paid. But Schillings comes back and says, "nope. We will reimburse the cost of the floors and the cost to install/re-install." Excuse me? Anything you want to make you happy means anything we want. Then they don't include the cost to repair subfloor and the cost to rent a dumpster which we'll need to throw the old floors out. So I'm still arguing with them over the details. Bottom line: Schillings sells crap flooring under their in-house label Spring Orchard. Then when there's an issue, even a major safety issue, they do absolutely ZERO to speed things along until you get an attorney involved. read more

I rarely give businesses bad reviews but the customer service here is very lacking. I understand the want to let customers walk around and not feel pressured but when you go into a place and say "I want to order the cabinets today" but instead walk out frustrated, somethings wrong. I think they are more focused on working with contractors with a multitude of orders versus the home owner looking to remodel their entire home. Not the place to go to if you are expecting help, guidance, or a variety of choices. read more

DAMAGED and MEDIOCRE Products delivered with Unsatisfactory 'Customer Service' On December 2, 2020 I finalized my new kitchen and bath custom cabinet order with @Schillings in St. John, IN. I was excited and anxious to get my products as I am a repeat customer from 2008 from @Schillings. The cabinetry I purchased in 2008 cabinetry lasted so well over the past 13 years that when I sold that home, I gained a small profit during the sale. Given my great experience in 2008 I had no reason to not think I wouldn't get the same experience. Well... I WAS WRONG! Jan 5, 2021, I received my kitchen cabinets order and I was VERY UPSET with what I received. On Jan 8, 2021 Ken from @Schillings and Drew from @Homecrest Cabinetry Inc came to view my complaints on the mediocre product delivery and hear my concerns. We discussed and looked at the 1 broken cabinet, 4 cabinets doors and set of drawers with staining discoloration that they said was fine. @Schillings & @Homecrest Cabinetry Inc told me to put up the decolorated cabinets on the wall and the lighting will make them look different.....WTF type of response is that!!! If it's discolored not on the wall, it will be discolored on the wall and not match! Now, let me tell you all about the f'd up 'customer service' they have... to compensate me for 2 weeks of waiting for bs....they said they'll send me replaced doors and draw fronts (which I have to install - another piece of BS)... Well... they are only honoring their lifetime warranty of the product and nothing more less. Also... there is a 50/50 chance I'll get the same discoloration crap again! I'll NEVER EVERRRR ORDER from @Shillings or @Homecrest Cabinetry again EVER! I have referred SEVERAL family members, friends and contractors to the company. Dan Johnston, the Schilling's associate who "helped" us, explained that the price advertised was actually incorrect. He said the current US/ China tariffs had driven quartz prices up. This should have been the first and only indicator to stay away but unfortunately we proceeded. After making all of our selections, Dan Johnston, said he would email us the final quote with the current cost of the quartz. We went over, in depth, our questions concerns and made it very clear that we would need the existing counter tops removed. Dan assured us that our final quote would include the removal of the existing counter tops. 5 days went by, we sent a couple of emails attempting to follow up and finally received a "I'm sorry I must have overlooked the email" We ultimately had to reach out to another sales associate who knew little to nothing about what we had discussed with Dan. This process was aggravating and time consuming. Our final measurement appointment was entered incorrectly the first time we attempted to schedule which prolonged our installation date. Finally, on the day of our installation (today) a different company arrived to do the work. I received a phone call from my girlfriend explaining that the company who was on site said that they could not take any of the existing counter tops off as they did not have it listed on their order. They told her that if we could not arrange to have someone come and uninstall the counter tops in a short period of time, we would have to reschedule the install appointment. She offered to call in a payment over the phone for the removal of the old counter tops and was told that was not an option. I called Schillings hoping they would be able to offer some sort of solution but instead was hung up on by Dan Johnston and promised a call back by his supervisor Lori. No call back. Because my girlfriend had already taken a day off of work and I could not make it back home in time to do it myself, she uninstalled the counter tops herself as 4 men sat there and watched her. I purchased a display bathroom vanity that is sold "as is" , I've been treated better at police impounds . I live 30+ miles away and realized when I unloaded at home that the sink was missing. I called & went back to pick up the sink, the guy that helped me load my truck said "I saw it 3 minutes after you left someone moved it from the area ". I said "My phone number is on my invoice I wish that you would have called ". I noticed that the drain was missing and asked if he could help me out getting a drain ? Was told that they don't have any - I looked at another display and it has a drain , I left . My contractor wanted the model # that was not on the invoice - so Rebecca answers the phone and tells me there is no model number (I'd been told by her that no cardboard was available when I purchased / loaded my items - yet they have a dumpster for cardboard ) Asked to talk to girl that rang me out , that girl says she'd try to find it and call me . That was after trying to tell me that she didn't have Kohler model number available to her / that the guys that took it off the wall should not have helped me as it was a display . I recently purchased countertops from Schilling.Schilling uses Prestige out of Crown Point for countertops. There were many problems with this install. First of all, they chipped my cabinets, took a chunk out of my window sill and didn't attach the undermount sink properly. I had to have a plumber come out and fix it. Also the corner radii were not cut as I had requested. The two corners of the peninsula each have grossly different cuts.The install wasn't a traditional job so the owner of prestige called and was very rude on the phone and ended up hanging up on me. Furthermore ,there were posts under the peninsula that they knocked out of vertical level so now they are obviously crooked and leaning. I did receive a call from Shillings about the issues but given the experience so far I told them I don't want them back. They're only resolution after that is that I guess I have to pay someone else to come and fix the problems they created. read more

I will NEVER use schilling for anything , ever. We built our house through schilling, and they were the rudest group of people I've ever dealt with. For example, when we went in to pick our cabinets, the lady measured what was studded and never came back to measure after the dry wall went up. The cabinets were all off! Also, we've had issues with our doors and windows and their response was "call the manufacturer." No you dummies. You don't just get to keep profits from products your customers buy and NOT be held responsible for what happens after. It's like me going to the farmer instead of the grocery store when I get a rotten apple. That's not how it works. After many confrentations, they finally called the manufacturer. The only group of people that were genuine and cared for our building process, were the employees in the flooring department. They were awesome! They were the only reason I gave you any stars at all. Best place to go in the chicagoland area for competent help. Unlike the "big box" stores, I found friendly sales people who are very knowledgeable and helped me figure all the items that I needed for my project. I now go there for all my home improvement needs. I have beautiful new hardwood floors from Schillings, best price that I found in the area! Now I am working on a new Azek deck with their designers. Purchased a vanity, cabinet, and toilet from Schillings on Aug. 6, 2018. It sat in the box in my bedroom until Aug. 28th when it was all install. One week later on September 5th the screw fell out of the hinge at the top of the door in the cabinet. I called Schillings and asked to speak to a manager. They took the information and said he would call me back. He never did. Three days later I called again and talked to the manager and asked if he could send someone out to properly fix the door as it was now difficult to close and hanging at a weird angle. I was told they don't have anyone to do that and that either I or the plumber installing the cabinet must have hung on the door and caused the damage. I can assure you I know enough not to hang on cabinet doors and as the plumber I hired comes from a reputable company that has been in business many years I am sure he knew not to hang on cabinet doors, too. Will never shop at Schillings again! They do not stand behind their products. Received a call from Schillings this morning. They offered me a whole new door for my cabinet. I refused as the cabinet door was not the problem. Whoever drilled the hole to connect the door to the cabinet drilled it too big or put a screw in there that was to small causing the screw to fall out. So the problem was in the cabinet not the door and I certainly did not want the cabinet torn out, etc. But being a widow and not a carpenter I was afraid to fix it myself. But I did after I felt they were not going to help. So thanks Schilling Bros. for offering to help, but I am handier than I thought! Hopefully, everything is fine now. read more

Schilling has been able to give us great suggestions and deals on helping redo our house, including flooring, and both bathroom and kitchen countertops. Schillings was very easy to work with and very professional. The contractors that work with the company were excellent as well - everything is set up and ready to go by the time you walk out the door. Also, if you haven't, take a walk around the store. It is one of the most renovated, clean, and up-to-date establishments I have had the pleasure to be able to shop within. Five stars!
