Diamond in the rough- don't judge the exterior- it's grandmas kitchen table and it works. the service was great and the food was outstanding. Most of us got the brisket and loved it- everything you want in something that took 18 hours to make. Do not shy away from the sauces- I mixed all three and loved the effect. My family and I are visiting Marquette, Michigan and were looking for ribs. We found Lake Superior Smokehouse and decided to try it. We walked in and the restaurant staff cheerfully greeted us. My daughter and grandson said we'd like to order to go. The inside was rustic and nicely decorated. There is outside seating in the back that looked pleasant with beautiful plants. The bar area was welcoming and the dining room area was beautiful and clean. The bathroom was clean and quaint. After my daughter explained to the young man behind the counter what we're looking for, he went into the kitchen and came out with ribs samples... wow, we didn't expect that. He said that his father owned the restaurant and their ribs won in a competition for best ribs in Michigan some years ago. Needless to say it was absolutely delicious! The sauces were so delicious and the ribs smoky and tender. We got the ribs, pulled pork and sausage, with Smoky Mac and Cheese, and vegetables. Abrielle is the best beer hero ever; word! The Smokin'Hubster and I spent the day driving and worked up quite a hunger watching two-lane traffic. The restaurant was about half full and it seemed like nearly everyone knew everyone else. Pretty soon, we were welcomed like regulars and gabbed with the folks at the bar, too! *waves Hello! to Dawn!* We started with two of their own brews, Hoppy Days and Golden Blonde Ale. Perfectly balanced for each of our palates and definitely cleared the road dust! The ability to pay by the ounce (see my photo) had us intrigued. We'll definitely need to come back with beer-loving friends! In part because we wanted to try different things and in part because we couldn't decide... Behold, you may build a platter of three meats and three sides; really! $43.00 and perfect "[F]or Two to Split, or One For a Challenge." We were hungry and it was still a challenge for two! My husband slid his fork under a slice of brisket and it just. fell. apart! (My mouth just watered remembering that!) Never have I ever had brisket that tender! We also selected Pulled Pork and Andouille Sausage. We were in Carnivore Heaven! The three sauces offered all coordinated well with each meat but that horseradish had my name all over it! Sides? Home Made Coleslaw (so crisp and not heavy at all!), Smoked Baked Beans (rich and dare I say good for you? Maybe?) and life-changing Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese. OK, I added the 'life changing' part but really. If you order nothing else, get that mac and cheese. Cool little "Yelp" find near the shores of Lake Superior. While staying in Marquette, MI for work, I typed "BBQ" in the search bar and came across this gem hidden located off the highway about 5 miles from my hotel in a small berg called Harvey. This bar/restaurant/smokehouse is located in what looks like a residential area, and has the friendly atmosphere of a small town pub. I ordered the full rack of ribs and a side of slaw. The ribs where terrific and was way more than enough for any one person. They were very meaty and pretty much fell right off the bone. I probably wouldn't order the slaw again because I'd opt for one of the many other available sides. The meal also came with a hunk of cornbread. It was a snowy weeknight, so it wasn't very busy. I'm not sure how quickly the food comes out on a busy night, but tonight it was really fast. The bartender was fun and so where the other guests who we also sitting at the bar with me. A woman near me had ordered a Rueben. And I have to admit that even though I was more than full from my delicious ribs, I was really envious on how good her sandwich looked! They were subpar IMO, more like frozen then fried cheese nuggets with corn inside than curds. The platter we got brisket and pulled pork. For sides, we got the Gouda Mac and cheese and the special veggie: bacon green beans. The beans were delicious, the Mac was solid 8/10. I love good brisket. I wish they made good brisket, horrible! Look closely at these fatty grey hunks of meat. I did tell the bartender supervisor (I say that because the bartender didn't care). So the supervisor brought me two new pieces with less fat. They were greyer and tasted like old beef jerky. Ribs were ok a little tough ok flavor. Beans, mac and cheese and cornbread were just plain. The only things I finished were the ribs and the old fashioned drink. The drink was bad I think the bartender top it off with water. Never going back. read more

The food is alright.... when they have it. My biggest gripe about this place is they run out of everything very early on their busiest nights. The past two visits I've had there, they've been out of all or almost all of their smoked meats... and they don't tell you until after you've been waiting over a half hour. I went last night with my husband and MIL. It was my husbands birthday. We got seated around 6:30 --three and a half hours until close. They were out of all their smoked meats except sausage and prime rib (Saturday special.) If they would've told us at the door, we would've just left, but we had already ordered a few sodas so we stayed. MIL and I had burgers --which must not be made to order, because they didn't ask how we'd like them cooked. My husband got prime rib, which thankfully he really likes, but it was annoying to go somewhere with such a limited menu on his birthday. How are you a BBQ place with no brisket, ribs, pulled pork and chicken halfway through your dinner rush? I could understand if it happened once, but it happens often. The time before when we went in, I waited over an hour for a salad, for them to come out and tell me they were out of the dressing for my salad. We're local and my husband never wants to go back. He thinks it's overpriced for what you get, and is also sick of them running out with several hours until closing. When the meat IS available, it's good. Not the best I've had; we eat barbecue just about every place we travel to. But when I go in at a normal dinner time of 6:30, I expect for the half the menu to not be wiped out. I've never experienced that at another BBQ place. read more

There was live music which was a little bit too loud and socializing was a little hard while they were playing. The table service was a little slow and it seemed that the wait staff was a stretched thin. Our second round was basically left on the service bar for 10 mins. Their mac and cheese is so creamy and rich, their burgers are cooked perfectly and was so juicy, and their fries were very good! We also got ribs and they were amazing! Last stop. Seemed like growing and maturing smokehouse with authentic BBQ! A must try! The meat is smoked daily., Get there early as they do often run out later in evenings. One person at our table had to substitute when they ran out of chicken. They have a brewery! 14 of their own, several guest craft beers, and card bracelets that unlock taps, allowing you to pour your own pints were between 5 and 6ish dollars. One specialty imperial milkshake ipa, that was a little more, served in a smaller glass due to the alcohol content. Ended up being our favorite restaurant experience in Marquette. We came here based on Yelp reviews and thank you so much! It's clean, and while there, there was hardly an empty table. A man was singing on stage with his guitar- very mellow. The star is barbecue but the food and beverage menus are eclectic and between the three of us, we tried many items and all were on point. I had two appetizers- Mac and cheese with brisket and crispy corn curds, which was described and crispy fried nuggets of corn and cheese. The brisket was melt in your mouth tender and a little too seasoned to me but delicious with the smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. The corn nuggets were all that and a bag of chips! Warm on the inside, crisp on the outside- you could taste the sweet corn and cheese individually. I tried bbq sauce as well as the hot honey that came with it but ultimately ate them without sauce as they were delicate and flavorful. Husband had the nachos (delish) and the key lime pie which he said rates an 8 out of a 10. My sister had a pulled pork sandwich, fries and slaw and all were delicious and very good. One of us had a chocolay night ale and I had a glass of Eos Cabernet. They were outstanding. read more

Overpriced and shabby. The inside is pretty dreary looking and water was dripping from the ceiling out of an electrical outlet. But it had been raining for 8 hours, so I can be understanding. We ordered the onion rings (Texas tanglers?) And we got a tiny tray of onion shreds. It costs $9. But they were good. The waitress recommended the BBQ so we got a plate to split for $28. For almost $30 we got 4 tiny ribs, 2 little slices of brisket and two tiny side cups. The food was okay. But for that price, the food shouldn't be "okay" if the portions are that small. If the portions are that small, the food should be excellent. Instead we got subpar food at a price which should've warranted good portion sizes and great taste. We got neither. Wow, had to travel the UP for amazing BBQ. Ok, you drive there and think you took a wrong turn down a neighborhood street. Apparently it's an old dive bar that was converted to a smokehouse. Our waitress couldn't have been any nicer. The Mac N Cheese was smooth and creamy. The ribs were fall off the bone. The brisket was the ticket. Moist and amazing !
