just the facts. stayed here three times. the site is lovely. wind in the pines, ripples on the lake, ravens, ravens, ravens. The cabins are very run down. But the proximity to the casino and the lovely site balance that out. HOWEVER. this time we were assaulted by the largest, ugliest cockroach ever. To start off, I will definitely be bringing my family back here, most likely on a slower (non-holiday) weekend - I feel that the goods outweigh the bads enough to justify a return visit. The lake and campgrounds are beautiful. The campsites all have nice trees and plenty of shade, the lake is small, but pretty. The fishing is alright, I managed to catch a couple largemouth bass and a few channel cats, but I didn't see a whole lot of action from many other anglers. The woman working the welcome center was extremely nice, and they sell a few items you maybe forgotten like fishing gear, charcoal and lighter fluid, and ice. Everything was reasonably priced, the firewood was even cheaper than bundles available at Walmart or HEB which I found very surprising. There is a nice small playground for young kids to play on that is an easy walk to the swimming area, so kids of all ages will be entertained. They do paddle boat and canoe rentals for $10/HR, I would recommend you stick to the canoe as the one paddle boat they have doesn't steer very well and is quite old and has a broken seat. There are several reviews about issues with stray dogs, I only saw 2 dogs off leash and they kept their distance. My family went for the last weekend of spring break 2017 and for the most part enjoyed it. The park was full which according to the welcome center is actually pretty rare. There were quite a few campsites that were very loud and despite the 10pm-8am quiet time did not stop partying until after 2am. I saw tribal police come through a few times during the day but never at night. Now the bad.. The restrooms here were unacceptable. We tried every bathroom in each camping loop, all were disgusting. The toilets all leaked around the bases leaving the concrete floors wet and mildewed. The showers were in varying states of disrepair. Some were completely missing doors, others had half of the shower curtain torn off, and none had hot water. It is no fun trying to get a 4 year old girl to take a cold shower, I'm just glad she still thinks camping is fun after that experience! The bathrooms were the most disappointing part of the trip and the only reason for Tombigbee not getting 5 stars. read more

We took our Cub Scout Pack here for a Campout this weekend. Inspite of a very serious drought in the area, the lake looked beautiful. We rented a tipi for our Pack and the kids loved spending the day playing in, out, and around it. Before going to bed for the night, our den leaders sat in the tipi with the boys and gave them a history lesson about the local indians. Texas State Parks offer a lot of classes on the weekends. This park does not provide anything like that. But they have a nice playground, and a nice covered pavillion. It was a easy weekend with 25 very happy kids. With the current burn ban, our group was forced to get creative with our cooking. Made it more fun and more interesting. We are so glad we got out of Houston, and went to Lake Tom Big Bee! The drive for Houston/Cinco Ranch area was nice. Our kids went nuts when the noticed the huge hills. read more

Love this place! We always come here when we get a chance. So quiet, and really true to embracing nature, and it's natural state. Staff is friendly, and helpful, and the trash is taken out regularly. Can't wait to see the updated sites in April! read more

I have been here several times for family camping trips. We usually see strays here and there but never too worried about it...until this last time. The ENTIRE night and next morning we heard dogs fighting like crazy! They even started going at it right in the site next to us!! Our dogs had to spend the night in the car since we were afraid of our dogs being attacked through the tents. This was several dogs and it sounded like they were killing each other! Walked around all night with the flashlight and a log for protection just in case. They REALLY need to get this under control before someone gets hurt. Restrooms are awful! There was no water...so no washing hands or flushing. Gross! I am pretty disappointed and these things alone will cause me not to be back anytime soon until there has been time for this stuff to get resolved. I LOVED the environment, beautiful spot but cant get over the stray dogs and bad restrooms. read more

Lake Tombigbee campground is located just east of Livingston, TX on the Alabama-Coushatta Indian reservation. We've never been to such a large campground with so few campers, RV's or otherwise. 4 sections - RV with full hook-ups with a bathhouse, Pull-thrus with electric and water, tent sites with electric and water and primitive sites with water. There are also cabins available for rent. You can also rent a teepee. There were a total 5 RV's (2 of them being with our party) 1 family with children and 2 permanent trailers used by local workers. Of the 29 RV sites, 7-8 are back-ins. Not sure how to describe the other sites. I guess you could call them drive thrus. You pull your RV parallel with the lake to face it. The sites across the road face uphill with a ditch, making it difficult to get to the picnic table for the site. The black top road along the edge of the campsites on the lake side all have drops offs making it almost impossible to open the canopy and utilize the shade or the area right up next to the camper. The RV campsites could use updating. Adding gravel or fill along the edge of the road for each site would help. All sites have a dirt pad and cement pad, picnic table and fire ring. The bathhouse was clean but there needs to be benches outside the showers to put your belonging on. This campground has so much potential. I'd call it a diamond in the rough. I'm thinking when it first opened it was very nice. It's a double edged sword.... great that there aren't many people using it but sad there aren't many people using it. I really think people don't know it's there. We were going to a state park but I came across this campgrounds while looking at local things to do. We've lived in Houston for 30+ years and didn't know it was there and neither did many of our other camping friends. The grounds are clean and the lake is very nice. We wished we had kayaks. We will return as it's only 1 1/2 hours from our home which makes it great for a weekend getaway. We've scoped out the sites and know which to ask for the next time. read more

We took the family camping here for 2 days in July and had a great time! We were at Site #116 in Loop C, with water & electricity (although the water & electricity were located in a weird spot. Bring extension cords!) The campsite was shady, and had enough flat space to fit both of our 6-person tents. It had a BBQ grill & a fire pit with grill. No mosquitoes, which was shocking, but no one warned us about the WILD DOGS! They are all over the place. I believe it may be some kind of sanctuary for strays. They aren't aggressive, nor friendly, but if you leave any food accessible, they WILL get to it, so keep that in mind. The grounds are very well taken care of, and the lake is very calm and nice, although can be a little tricky to get in and out of. Our campsite was in walking distance to both the lake and the bath house. The bath house wasn't spectacular but it did have AC & hot water which was nice. There is a convenient store about 2 miles up the road for easy ice pickup, and you can leave the gate after dark if need be because you get a gate code. If you like to drink alcohol, be aware that you have to go about 15 miles to get any so buy in advance. All in all, it was a great spot, & $40 well spent. read more

I have camped here 4 or 5 times over the past 10 years and we have always loved it. I am sad to say that I have to give it low stars at this time due to the BAD STRAY DOG ISSUE. It was very aggravating and ruined what used to be a very peaceful place. The dogs fought all night and barked howled and carried on. Around 430 am two gunshots were fired to disperse the dogs. The dogs roamed through the camp ground looking for food, growling and barking. I will not be going there again. They really need to get this under control because it is a big safety concern. I am not over exaggerating. Please heed my advice. On another note....if it weren't for the dogs then I would give 4 stars. read more

Just spent three days at the campground 6 other families. The stray dogs are a BIG PROBLEM. A stray pit bull came into camp and attacked one of the family' s dogs that was on a leash. It injured the dog and I was bitten trying to drive the stray away. The police were called and a report filed. The stray dog was found and taken by the police. The family dog was taken to a local vet and patched up and released. The biggest concern is that the dog could have attacked one of the children. The situation is not safe. My dog bite is healing and I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS TO FAMILIES OR DOG OWNERS. read more
