We took the grandkids to Mackinac Island for three days of biking, fudge, ice cream, and whatever other adorable charm the island wanted to throw at us. We booked the Lakeview Hotel for two reasons: 1. It's right on Main Street--prime location. 2. It has an indoor pool, which is basically gold when traveling with kids (and a lifesaver on rainy days). The hotel had a renovation a couple of years back, and it really is a pretty place--rocking chairs lined up on the porch, all very "sit here with your coffee and people-watch." The staff was friendly too, which made me hopeful. And then we got to our room. Hot. Damp. Humid. Think "Florida swamp" vibes, but indoors. We turned down the AC, cranked up the fan, left for a few hours, and came back expecting improvement. Nope. Still swampy. I called the desk, and they said they'd send up an engineer and, if it didn't cool down, they'd move us. The engineer fiddled with the unit, it got slightly less miserable, but nowhere near "comfortable sleep" levels. When I went back to the desk, I was told this is just how the split units work and that all the rooms felt like this. Translation: no point in moving us. Cue two nights of zero sleep, plus me developing a low-grade fever. By the third night, I thought things couldn't get worse--then the bar across the street transformed into an emo rave nightclub. Our room was directly across from the front door, and the bass literally shook the walls. At midnight, I called the desk, and the clerk helpfully informed me I was "the only one complaining." (Sure, because everyone else's rooms weren't vibrating like a subwoofer test lab.) She said she'd call the bar. A few minutes later she reported back: "They said they're about to close." Fantastic. Except... 30 minutes later the music was still blasting. I called again, and this time she said she called the police. But when I finally called the police myself, they told me no one had reported anything. So I don't know what was going on. Finally, I demanded a new room. They moved us just for the night and told us not to bother with our luggage, just sleep there. And here's the kicker: the "new" room was ice cold, crisp, and perfectly comfortable. So much for "all the rooms are the same." At that point, I told the desk we weren't moving back into the swamp room, and they needed to figure it out. I also told them some sort of compensation was in order since they'd promised to move us the first night and never did. Only then did she admit they had been sold out. Which meant, from the start, they had no intention (or ability) of moving us--they just didn't bother to tell me the truth. Had I known that, I would've asked for my money back and booked somewhere else. The manager spoke with me the next day and provided a credit. But honestly, I just wanted a good nights sleep for the entire trip. Oh, and for anyone booking: the "king" rooms are basically the size of a shoebox. The double-queen rooms, though? Much more spacious and comfortable. Had my entire staying started in the second room I ended up in, this would be a five star review. Had they moved me to a new room when they said they were going to, it also would've been a five star review. read more

The hotel has recently been remodeled and is beautiful from the lobby to the rooms. The rooms are comfortable, clean and had plenty of towels. Nice shower. Great sitting porch with rocking chairs to watch the horse carriages, bikers and people go by. On Main Street near restaurants and shopping. No breakfast at the hotel. I could not give them 5 stars because our room overlooks the indoor pool and it was as if the kids were in our room screaming and splashing. Extremely loud until 10 pm. We were with a tour group and had early mornings, so impossible to go to bed before 10pm. Right across from the ferry dock. read more

Great end-to-end experience! Solid 4.5 Hotel. We stayed at the Lake View Hotel during peak season, amid a pandemic and a labor shortage. Their staff did SO much with SO little. We made sure to tip generously throughout, from the porters to housekeeping to the front desk staff, every worker was constantly busy. We had a cute view of the interior and our door opened out to the pool in the center. I loved our room. It was not wheelchair accessible but that is ok; we didn't ask for that - just letting folks know that if you're in one of these rooms, make sure you come with someone you like and feel comfortable with, because there can be some tight squeezes when you're getting ready to go out on adventures. Luggage pick-up and drop-off to the ferry is included in the price of the room, thank goodness, but be sure to tip your porter(s) generously - they deserve it as everything is being transported to/from the hotel by bicycle. Baggage storage was provided for us upon check-out, and the staff had great communication regarding the transport of our (sizeable amount!) of luggage back to the mainland. The bed was comfortable and the amenities welcoming. Close to the ferry dock. Next door to a local brewery with tasty craft beers, also available for takeaway. Breakfast not included. read more

Great location downtown. The front desk was very helpful and friendly. I loved the fact that the hotel has not been modernized to a boutique hotel like some-others down the street. I talked to the front desk about the age of the hotel and they said they were going to have a major renovation over the winter but would not change the Victorian character of the hotel. Great location from Dock #3. Rooms are dated, but they are getting a full remodel this winter. Our room was in a back corner and quiet, with tons of space and windows (pleasant surprise). Beds and pillows are comfortable. My wife and I's wedding anniversary. I went out of my way to spend a lot of money on the best hotel room I could find. I book the king turret room, how fancy right. A special room that has an additional rounded sitting room. My wife will love this, how cool!! Yeah well our special room is facing the back of the hotel, staring at peoples back yards. Zero view of anything, actually a very bad view. How can you charge the same amount for this turret room as the other turret rooms with a view. So Unsatisfied It has ruined the trip this far. You cannot charge more to sit in the back. We feel duped spending the extra money. We talked to the front desk, they acted like they were amazed we didn't love this terrible room. The manager was there as well and he said it wasn't his favorite room and he doesn't know why people book it. What!! Well that's awesome. Way to misrepresent your hotel on your website. Good place to stay downtown. Checkin was ok. I thought I had paid for a lake view but I guess I didn't. so ended up paying extra for the lake view. Issue is you can get your room on Expedia.com much cheeper if you book there. I told them when I was booking and they said book there if you want. I didn't, but would next time. So we upgraded to lake view to make sure we could see sunrise. Well the door to the outside on floor 3 was locked. they open up at 7. Sorry this is so stupid. open it up at 5. Only had one employee at hotel he was at front desk and said he would come up when he could. He did come up fast, but we missed the sun rise. This should be an easy fix. read more

Pandemic or no Pandemic, Mackinac Island is on top of my tourist list for family vacation-apparently like tens of thousands of vacationers who swarmed the Island this year while we were there despite the fear of spiking virus cases. As always every year, I have to visit Mackinac Island and I usually stay at Lilac or Bicycle hotels (very nice hotels BTW). This year, I made reservations unusually late thinking maybe people are not leaving their homes--and boy o boy I was soooo wrong! So, therefore, in brief I only found vacancy at Lake View Hotel, and learned later-the hard way- why. I booked three rooms, for 3 families. We were given the so-called package that consisted of $100 gift card and ship tickets. However, it turned out to be a marketing gimmick and scam, because the gift card was only allowed to be used at Turtle restaurant that belongs to the Hotel. Also because of this "package" the first night charge was $427.00 while the second night was $309. So, they did not offer us any thing extra! BTW this was not explained well during the booking. My friend used his credit card to reserve the 3 rooms and he was charged a deposit of $427 three times. Before I head to the Island, I called Hotel management to make sure it was following a rigorous cleaning and sanitizing protocol due to the fast spreading Coronavirus. The staff person assured me by saying "believe me" multiple times. She said her Hotel is following the most strict procedures--changing bed sheets and pillow cases and wiping surfaces. She even suggested that if we want to change sheets we can get new fresh ones but we have to change them ourselves to avoid sending housekeeper person to the room to eliminate contact. I agreed hoping management of the Hotel was good to its word. Upon arriving, I found out that my party had already checked in and went to their respective rooms. As I was checking in, I did not feel a genuine welcome by the receptionist--only a lackluster hello. I let that go and went to our reserved room number 214. As the porter was opening the door he said "your room has two entrances, front and back". I said to myself "WOW this must be a mansion or suite". Turned out that this room was built on the cross corner that used to connect the floor and it was TERRIBLE. There was a small alcove as we entered where the Flinstone-era noisy air-condition unit was located with an open closet. The small bathroom was so close to the two beds so if anyone wakes up at night and goes to the bathroom, the entire family will wake up because there was no light switch outside the bathroom AND (get this) the sink was outside the bathroom and even closer to beds. There were four of us, so if each one got up to go to the bathroom, we would be awake all night. And this is exactly what happened for two nights as I anticipated. That was not all. I looked at the so-called bed sheets and pillow cases and saw they WERE NOT CLEAN. Thy were not changed. Proof: when I changed pillow cases they looked bright white comparing to the old ones. Are you kidding me?! After all these "believe me" and assurances and in the wake of the worst Pandemic? Is this dangerous or what?! I also saw dust piling up on what looked like a coffee maker and about a year old condiments. Furthermore, there was no window in the room and it felt claustrophobic--except for a small hole we could not open and it only overlooked the inside of the hotel where the obstreperous pool and jacuzzi located. We all definitely felt disgusted with the room and wanted to change it. I picked up the phone to call the receptionist but it was not functioning (I guess it was for show). I went down myself and spoke to the receptionist and told her I want to change the room. She went and spoke to the manager, as she said, and came back quickly to tell me she was sorry, manager said there was no availability. What about the next day as I was staying for 2 nights? She said the hotel is fully booked, too. That explained why the so-called manager didn't care about customer service and did not bother to carry his/her carcass to talk to me personally as all respected business establishments do. He/she left this difficult task to the employee. (S)he probably did not care because of the high season and no shortage of tourists. The receptionist apologized again and offered a whopping refund of.. $75.00 (Whoopie). I said I don't want money back I want to enjoy my vacation with good accommodation. I had no resolution and I felt my vacation had already been ruined by this picayune hotel. I asked for clean sheets and went ahead and changed all sheets and wiped all surfaces myself. My sister who accompanied me had it worse, though. Her room literally was a walk-in closet. You could tell from the triangle ceiling and the narrowness. Her room was so tight you can open the door from the bed! I do not want to even talk about mixing up our payments and leaving the three deposits on my friend's credit card. Zero Star. read more

I hope this is not the best you get for $375/night on the island. The room was very odd, like a closet that didn't have an exterior window but one small one around the corner on the wall of the atrium and pool. We were on the 3rd floor and at night the noise from the pool was very loud. The room we had looked nothing like the light filled rooms on the website - more like a cave. They have coffee service from 5:30am-7:30am - what a joke! I would not recommend this place. There was a spider crawling on me in bed at 4:45 in the morning. I tried being nice as possible and had my husband call (on our cellphones because our room phone hadn't worked since day 1) to ask for our sheets to be changed at 4:51 in the morning. Nothing for 20 minutes. Called again. This time I spoke to the guy and he only answered will "Hello?" I explained to him that it's been 20 minutes. He said "I called housekeeping and no one answered." I laughed and said "It's 5:15 in the morning. How am I supposed to sleep?" How is anyone supposed to sleep, knowing there are bugs in their bed that they paid $500 a night to be in. His only response was "I'm sorry, I don't know what to tell you." I laughed again and hung up. An hour had gone by. I called again. I pointed out all the flaws in there service and how it could have been fixed. I have a degree in hotel management, but it doesn't take that to solve these problems. He said house keeping will be in at 7am and the manager will be in at 8am. Other things wrong: Housekeeping touched our items The door does not seal completely, big open crack Curtains are broken Stain on carpet Children running and screaming early in the morning Good things: Guy indicated he called our hotel room to update us. We just stayed two nights three days returning 8/27/23. I ended up Mon at the dermatologist with the diagnosis of bed bug bites. I called the hotel and the GM Chris told me they have a stringent routine and doubted me but will give me a partial discount. Well I'm full of bites and at this point blisters as well as dermatologist bills and medication deductibles so no, that really isn't a solution. read more

For our second time staying on the island i was pleasantly impressed with the Lake View, solid 4.5 stars. The hotel is comparable price to other hotels on the island and located super close to the ferry docks. The hotel is a little more modern than the other hotel we have stayed at on the island, but still has that island feel of 'older'. There was a nice open lobby. It didn't feel crowded, despite the fact we stayed during the 4th of July. We happened to have an outside room that overlooked the Main Street, it was a ton of fun to look out, people watch and see the hustle & bustle of the island. The room was a little small, but honestly all we did was sleep and shower in the room. Inside there was a pool/hot tub/sauna - it wasn't the cleanest (some bugs, cloudy from chemicals) but it also wasn't so bad we didn't go in for a dip. I would say try to get a room overlooking the street and not the pool. The hotel offers a continental breakfast, although we didn't partake it was a nice extra. Same goes for the various restaurants that are connected. The absolute best part of the hotel was the balconies!! There were 2 balconies off the front of the hotel. Each evening we sat out on the rocking chairs, watched the streets and listened to the music that was being played from Mary's Bistro across the street (the band was awesome!). Plenty of room and we didn't have an issue getting a spot. There was also a large front porch that had a ton of rocking chairs to sit in and take in the sights. read more

I was so excited to finally come to Mackinac! Really we just needed a place to sleep and I knew it would be expensive no matter where we went but for over $300 a night it was a bit disappointing. The wall paper was coming off the walls. The noise is incredible! Our room looked out onto the alleyway and horses were going up and down until pretty late. The door to the room is not sealed properly and at night the hall lights were visible around the door. Staff were not very friendly. The front porch with the rocking chairs are nice! Making the best of what they can with a historic hotel. I stayed in a small suite on the corner of the building, and it was nice. The room was spacious, and very clean. The furniture is a bit dated, as is the bathroom, however it is one of the oldest hotels on the island. It is near the end of Main Street, so the area is a bit quieter, but a section of the second floor is over the Great Turtle restaurant, so the music and sometimes be heard, or even felt. I did notice walking past some doors that they don't have full seals and a small crack lets light through. The beds are standard, and comfortable. Overall it is a nice establishment. read more

I would have given it a four star review, but an issue I noticed for the entire duration of our stay took a star off. The hotel has a nice long front porch, but it was disgusting the entire time we were there. People left their drinks, water bottles, and beer cans all over the porch. The three trash cans they had on the porch were overflowing with garbage. The next morning, we came out to sit on the porch and all of the garbage was STILL there! I would think someone who worked at the hotel could easily come out and take out the trash and pick up the garbage on the porch. Common sense would tell me do pick up shared areas every so often, but that was not the case here. read more

DO NOT STAY HERE We bought ferry tickets when we registered online with the hotel and when we got to the ferry the hotel had not put our tickets in the system. We almost missed the ferry because they had to call the hotel and then the hotel had to "put our tickets in the system because they forgot". We were on the second ferry that morning got in at 8:56 am and checked in, we were told the room would be ready in a few hours. We checked back a few times but we're told it would be 3:00, so I'm assuming no one else got a room before us. Which is fine, we were early. At 3:00 they were rude and told us the room would be "ready when it's ready" and it wasn't ready even though it was check out in time. I stay at a lot of hotels and never met a front desk so hostile. DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!! So many great places on the island, choose another. read more

I stayed 3 nights in October. I very much liked the location of the hotel and my room (2 queen with lake view) The bag handler and the housekeeper were very friendly. I disliked the staff at the front desk, they were very short and rude. The adjoining restaurant was sub par, where we ate the terrible continental breakfast that was included in the hotel package. (I ate dinner there too, awful - guest get 10% off the bill) The pool was kept clean, and was a good temperature. All in all, if the front desk employees would be welcoming and accommodating then I would consider staying here again. read more

It's a nice hotel, with fairly well appointed rooms and a friendly staff. The top floors have lodges overseeing the Main Street, great if you want to relax for a half an hour in a rocking chair watching the horse carriages below. Although the entrance to the lodge is not obvious. However, their breakfast was beyond mediocre, far worse than what I came to expect from far cheaper hotels. No meat whatsoever, actually no protein sans hard boiled eggs, and a very limited assortment overall. Bagels (plain and blueberry), plain cream cheese, some cereal, some juice, coffee. If you like to have a decent meal before starting your busy day of exploration, don't bother with their "free" breakfast. Also, they messed up our bill, then messed up the refund by processing it as a charge, then it took three days and some phone calls until my credit card showed the corrected refund. Very courteous and friendly throughout the ordeal, but I'd rather not have to deal with all of this when paying over $220 per night. read more

My hubs and I have stayed here for the past 8 years. This was the 4th time we were told our requested room (that we booked months ahead of time) wasn't held for us. The manager had the AUDACITY to tell us this time that the owner of room 439 was a condo, and the owner trumped our first night stay. We know he lied, Condo? He could have come up w a better one than that! They gave us a different room, of which we couldn't unpack because we were getting moved the next day to our original room. So beware if you request a certain room, chances are it won't be there for you. And with a lie as to why. Also, make sure you grab your coffee BEFORE 7:30 am.....snippy girl will take the coffee off the table well before your done pouring it-and with out even a "good morning". Rented 3 rooms for 4 nights. 2 rooms were deluxe queen, and then I paid extra for a lakeview room. Request rooms to be close, due to helping out with our younger grandchildren. I come to the Island several times a year. And have being coming since a child, so close to 60 years. With that being said I have stayed at most of the hotels, and B&B's on the Island. This was my first experience at Lakeview. *1st of all, not only did they not give us rooms close...all 3 rooms were on different floors. When expressing my disappointment and that I had requested the rooms be close...there wasn't even a "I'm sorry" or " let me see what I can do"...All I got was a shrug of shoulders. The desk workers were not friendly to ANY of the other guests checking in either (expressed by other guest in elevator). They acted as if they were frustrated that they had to check us in. Not welcoming to say the least. *Next, I go to my Lakeview room, to discover that it is not the room depicted on website. I had picked the room because of the table and chairs area, so that the family could play games, etc... I was so disappointed, after a difficult trip to arrive to this. My husband went down to express our concern, and to show them the picture of what we were expecting. No sorries, compensation...nothing but the same treatment as when I checked in. Couldn't do anything for us... all they said basically was some rooms are configured differently. No apologies, which would have went a long way, I might add! This is false advertisement. If the rooms are not the same as the picture on website, then there needs to be a disclaimer at the bottom of the picture stating this. Next the grands were in the pool, and I went down to help get them out, as it was close to 10. I no sooner got there when 2 of the desk people came in. The male rudely announces "The pool is closed". Not,...Hey everyone we will be closing the pool in 5 minutes, or something nice! It was an awkward silence with all of the guests. It was beyond uncalled for. I've never been to a lodging on the Island that has ever been so un-accommodating. Smiles go a long way. Just being nice goes a long way. Apologies for inconvenience goes a long way. We have paid a nice amout $ for 3 rooms and four nights, along with other family members that are guest here as well. Obviously they did not care. If being people friendly is not your thing, maybe working a front desk is not the job for you. read more

First Visit to the Island. Anniversary celebration. Excellent hotel, friendly staff, great location. We especially enjoyed the indoor pool, hot tub and Sauna available to us. If the hotel were updated a bit, I'd be pleased to give it a 5. My only reason for the 4 (1/2) is that wallpapers need updating, as some spots appear to be peeling or sagging (just like we do with age). Some door frames have taken a few bangs from luggage or carts, and need bandaids, as do a few places on walls. But the overall grandeur of this fine old lady still shine through. The ceilings and woodwork are beautiful. The furnishings reflect the style, age, and charm of the old girl. The pool is the perfect temperature, and the hot tub has some jets that do a wonderful job of beating the knots out of your back. There's a sauna, but we didn't use it. The folks at the front desk bent over backwards to help us, and were so friendly. They even got our room bumped to the head of the line for cleaning, so that we could check in early, when we called to explain that we were coming from a stay at Mackinaw City, and needed to kill 4 hours from checkout there. We were just making sure our luggage was OK to arrive before we did, and that we could sit in the lobby to ride out the predicted thunderstorm til our room was ready. We got a text on the ferry from the lovely lady who talked to me, letting me know that our room was ready. That's service. The porter service was quick, friendly, and efficient. The continental breakfast completely sufficient, with a variety of donuts, breads, Cinnamon rolls, Danishes, English muffins, bagels, toaster waffles, yogurt, dry cereals, oatmeal packets, boiled eggs, juices, milk, and coffee. If you can't get enough there to get your motor running for the day, you aren't trying very hard. The wifi was excellent, much better than the hotel on the mainland. We could've used a few more TV channels, like the Detroit Tigers station, or my favorite news channel, but hey. This is an island. You're there to relax, not be miserable over the state of politics or that your favorite player was traded while you slept (you find that out in the dining room over breakfast.). The location is very convenient, directly across the street from the Sheller dock and not far from bike rentals, shops, bars, and restaurants. Unfortunately, convenience doesn't make up for the front desk staff being rude, the fact that I was overcharged by $200 from what my online reservation stated, and running out of basic bathroom essentials. My room rate showed a total $200 less than what I was ultimately charged because we had 4 adults in one room. Even though my reservation confirmation clearly showed the lower price with four adults in one of the turret rooms. The turret room also had not been properly cleaned (Mike and Ike's, including the box, on the floor under the dresser, though clearly visible. We ran out of tissues, towels, and toilet paper during the stay. We didn't excessively use these items, but they appointed the room as if it were for two adults (though they had explained the charge as knowing we had 4 adults that I disclosed during the reservation. I would have mentioned this during check out if I had been asked how my stay was. I wasn't. The gal simply took my keys, printed the invoice, and said "thanks." I'd consider staying there again only because of the convenient location, but definitely come in with low expectations for an absurd price that won't be what was agreed to. read more

Seriously! I booked a room on Expedia to show my wife, who has never been to Michigan, how "fun" Mackinac Island can be! We check in to the hotel and they give us room 248 which is next to the stairs, elevator, ice machine, and the pool!!!! Who could possibly sleep in a room with all of those noise makers outside your door? We went back down to the front desk and we PAID to upgrade to a "Spa Suite." Not a suite, but it does have a "spa tub" that ejected water over the entire bathroom, including the ceiling, floor and all the towels when we tried to use it, not to mention it sounded like it was powered by two Mercury outboard engines! I'm thinking there are probably better options on Mackinac Island than the Lakeview Hotel, DON'T stay here! read more

We had the wonderful pleasure of celebrating our granddaughter's sixth birthday at the Lake View Hotel in September 2017. This is a BIG occasion in our family as we take each grandchild on a very special occasion when they turn six. We had the great fortune for this occasion of choosing the Lakeview Hotel to be our anchor facility for the occasion. From the first contact with Lake View Hotel, the staff went way beyond our expectations to fulfill our wish for this to be a very special occasion. My first Lake View Hotel contact was with a wonderful man in reservations, Leon McGhee. He guided me in my choice of accommodations and his recommendation to book the Presidential Suite was excellent. Furthermore, Mr. McGhee went to extraordinary measures to treat our young granddaughter to the "full-princess" treatment by sending her birthday greetings on her actual birthday; and also providing an "OH-MY" moment filling the suite with dozens and dozens of balloons, a rose floral bouquet, and a beautiful birthday cake with candles. Also, he had her name and "Happy Birthday" displayed on a message board in the elevator, which she noted every time we used he elevator and told other folks proudly that was about her! He made sure every staff member knew it was her birthday celebration and all went out of their way to give her special treatment that she adored! Additionally, the suite was quite spacious, lovely, and updated to modern standards with many amenities yet with appropriate historic character. The indoor pool with hot tub and sauna were extra special perks. Our package at Lake View included pre-arranged discounted ferry tickets as well as porter service for our luggage. The location is ideal on the main street with view of the lake and Big Mac Bridge as well as less than a block proximity to the ferry port. Their GoodFella's Restaurant was very, very good with an extremely broad menu selection and the willingness to accommodate special requests as we made for our granddaughter. The complimentary breakfast was tasty and plentiful. We cannot rave enough about Lake View Hotel, the facility itself and the extraordinary staff! They made our extended weekend a delightful success and a magnificent memory for our granddaughter and us! We highly recommend Lake View Hotel!!!! read more

Steer clear, this place and its staff are just about equally as bad. Facility is worn and they treat you like dirt.

We paid $500 a night for a room. It was nice, but had no refrigerator. They also lost our luggage and basically said they will call if it is found. We received no other reimbursement. I would not trust them to keep track of luggage or person items. Especially given that they don't do anything to make up for losing it. read more

Best family hotel on the island. Only one with a pool, we were told. Great, dedicated staff from front desk to the people who clean your rooms. Rooms are air conditioned, but they are loud and not very efficient. Goodfellows is s good restaurant with a fancy and casual side. My daughter had the King crab lobster Mac and cheese. WOW!!! A very fine hotel with none of the pretensions of the B&B set or (god save us) the Grand Hotel snobs. read more
