Our party room had a bar area, seating, and a balcony. It was absolutely gorgeous and perfect for our party. The wine options were great, a wonderful variety and all quality. They served a taco bar that impressed me. The chef cooked me some shrimp special since I don't eat red meat, and it was perfect. The chips were amazing, they had tableside guac, just incredible. The view of the water was the cherry on top. I will keep dreaming about this spot for a long time to come.

The reception was setup behind the ceremony, which was closer to the water. Tents, tables, buffet style food, etc. were all setup on the lawn - including a dance floor in front of the DJ booth. I recommend wearing block heels vs stilettos (or bringing the stiletto covers) as to avoid sinking in the grass :)

If your sole experience is a learn to row class, you may be forgiven for not knowing what a real rowing club looks like. The only rowing club in Seattle that is comparable to the best in other cities is Pocock. Its a real rowing club - not a business where you have to take a class to get in a boat. The members run the place, and the focus is on 'pulling hard, going fast, and having fun'. You can take a class if you want, and members range from beginners to Olympians. The age range is from 12 to into the 80's. The main emphasis is competition, but many members just like to row. A key distinction revolves around rigid scheduling - or not. At the PRC you can just take out a single or a double or a four with some friends on whatever schedule you want. No need to sign up for a class, again - unless you want to. Competitively - for masters - the PRC has no peer. The Junior program is excellent. People training for the Olympics in Seattle train at the PRC. The land-training facilities are far superior to what others offer. If you want a place to hold your wedding - try one of the other places. If you want a place to learn to row well or continue your rowing - this is it.

The parking lot is really small and you might have better luck street parking if it gets busy.

I'd never been there before and found the drive there quite serene. Often, I'll be going somewhere in the Seattle area and be in total awe of how beautiful the trees, mountains, and water are. It was one of those moments as my carpool came around a winding road towards the facility. Just breathtaking (and no rain at the moment). The effect was completed with about 50 seagulls and 25 geese hanging out on and/or near the docks. I love birds - they're just a little messy sometimes. The main building offers either an elevator or stairs to the next floor. On the second floor, you can find pretty much everything you'll need - the main room (with fireplace), two balconies, bathrooms, kitchens, and more of the stunning view I described earlier. Most of our activities took place in the main room. There were high ceilings and hanging lights. The facility offered both round and straight tables with plenty of chairs. The hardwood floor was beautiful. The staff was great and super responsive to our needs, facility was perfect, and our event design was fantastic! A great day in a great location!

Plus a great way for me to take full advantage of all the ducats I pony over to the city in sales tax and parking tickets! I now have on my fridge a piece of paper saying I'm certified by the City of Seattle to sail. NEAT-O.

This is located 1 block west of Queen Anne Ave N on top of the hill and the building south of McClure Middle (Jr. High when I went) School and is easily mistaken as part of the school. I learned soccer at the play field, Little League Baseball, and basketball in the gym. I learned to swim next door at the QA Aquatic Center. There is an outdoor playground, 3 baseball diamonds, and playfields (soccer usually). Locals call the playfield "Big Howe" although there is a sign on QACC that says "West Queen Anne Field House." Anybody who lives on QA that hasn't used QACC didn't grow up here. Lots of activities for all ages from toddlers to seniors. They have art classes, exercise, dance, martial arts, serve meals, etc... My kid attends the Fresh Air Preschool here and the Director has a Montessori certificate. 1 teacher per eight students and it's very affordable. They have MWF or TuTh. If they had a hotel here the Village People would've made a song: "It's fun to play at the QACC!"

They also have a room full of toys, huge play kitchen, puzzles, tumble mats and more. Fresh Air Preschool is the best - you can choose 2 days/week, 3 days/week, or 5 days/week. Very affordable and the teacher is Montessori certified. Both of my kids attended and loved it there - she does a fantastic job with social, emotional, and cognitive learning. School age care is also fantastic. They always seem to pack in so many activities for the kids and make it all look so effortless. We were usually pulling our son away when it was time to go. The adult pottery class is a must try - huge room to work in, lots of wheels, tools, etc. Best part is you can use the room ANY TIME the community center is open while taking classes. The weight room is also open any time and offers drop in or a low monthly fee. This place is a must if you live near!

I've been taking my kids to this pool for 21 years. They are 21, 10, and 6. Fifteen years ago, this…read morepool was a decent place to take lessons, but it's not anymore. The actual pool is fine. My kids like it because it has a 3 foot deep shallow end so even when the kids are very small, they can stand with their head above the water. And there are diving boards in the deep end which is something you can't find at all of the pools. The lifeguards and swim instructors are all relatively friendly, and they don't have a million rules, so it's a fun place for free swim. However, the majority of the lifeguards are very young. I personally don't have a ton of faith in a 17-year-old being able to keep my child safe in a pool, so I watch them every second myself. The reason for two stars is the lessons. This is our primary reason for going to the pool, and the lessons are awful. They divide the children up by age, and then divide that age group into three skill levels. If your child's skill level is outside the predicted skill level for their age group, they will never be taught where they're at. All of my children have been swimming independently by age 3-4, but there is no opportunity for independent swimming in this age group at Southwest Community Center pool. The kids are expected to stay in the shallow end, touching the wall, and they will be learning the very basics. Once the kids turn six, they are allowed to move up into a higher age range of kids who are 6 to 12, but if you have a younger children, they will take one look at them and put them in the lowest level, even if they swim better than the oldest kid in the pool. If by some chance, your six-year-old gets put into a group with 10 to 12-year-olds, they will be expected to understand instructions that are given at a 10 to 12-year-old level. There is no consideration for the differences in communication or maturity level of a six-year-old vs an older child. We have given this pool years of opportunities to improve the structure of their lessons and they have only gotten worse and worse. My personal recent experience is that I have a six-year-old who can easily pass a swim test and swim in the 12' deep end. She will spend an hour and a half before her lesson swimming in the deep end, jumping in, treading water, diving to the bottom, doing the backstroke, swimming freestyle... but as soon as free swim ends, and her lesson begins, she is put in a group of little kids who are practicing blowing bubbles and are kept on an extremely short leash with no opportunity for actual swimming. All I get from them is "Sorry, this is how we do things." They don't care. So if your child is a very early swimmer, or a very typical swimmer for their age, you might get something out of this pool for a year. But once your child starts making progress, they will be held back. The last big strike against them is management. Like I said before, the lifeguards and the instructors are all pretty young, but friendly. However, there's always one or two people in charge who have an absolutely horrible attitude. For some reason, they seem to attract managers who are on a big power trip. There was an older woman who worked there for the last decade who was an absolute terror, and when she left, they just replaced her with a male version who is no better. I don't understand it, but nothing will ever change if they have management who doesn't care and won't listen. Their priority does not seem to be teaching kids to swim. It appears to be filling up the classes with bodies as quickly as possible, and then stringing them along for years to make as much money as possible.
