2 stars for this gym for several reasons: 1-super outdated feel to the gym. It really feels like you walked back in time into 70s-80s with the dingy lighting, ugly paint color, archaic photos, and some really old cardio equipment (I'm looking at you, stairmaster) 2-the ridiculous and unforgiving policies. The fact that there is a different price for people 30 and above is really absurd to me. They won't even give your spouse the lower membership cost if they're under 30. $115 per person is pretty ridiculous considering how outdated and dead the place feels. The only reason we fork over this price is because it's so close to our apartment and because there is never a line to use the squat rack. Another ridiculous policy is how if you leave for a set period of time, they will not waive or even lower the exorbitant initiation fee of $450 that they charge. Your only option is to pause membership and STILL BE REQUIRED TO PAY HALF OF YOUR MONTHLY DUES each month. Crazy. 3-I have had unpleasant interactions with their fitness manager, Jacob. He came off with an undertone of snark and condescension in his email correspondence with me, and gave me super brief breakdown of my body composition, a service they offer for new members, while giving my partner a very in depth review (he seems to be much more interactive and jovial with other fellow buff males). The only thing I like about this gym is that I never have to wait for a rack, and the personal trainer named Melissa. She is a joy to have around.

The Long Version (TLDR @ bottom): I've been a member for six years, but it's really improved over the past few years. I am in my mid-thirties with a disability that has me in chronic pain, but I feel so much better on days I work out that it has become an absolute must for me to be at the SACdt. My mood is better, I'm getting strong, and my health is improving, but most importantly, I just feel my best on days I work out. 1.5 years ago, I was in a wheelchair after major hip/back surgeries and weak as a baby, but through hard work, personal training, water aerobics, and dedication, I am walking, in the gym 5-6 times a week, and STRONG. Machinery: They have older (more typical gym stuff) all over the gym, but they also have this crazy apparatus (that is new in the past year) that takes up the entire front room and it is awesome! They are pretty consistent (I've been a member for 6 years) in upgrading the cardio machines, so there are really good selections between the old-school stuff and the newest machines (everything has been spread out for COVID so you have to really tour the whole place to find what you like). There are multiple classrooms for different classes, including cycling and pilates. Pool: I use the pool (which is saline) multiple days a week. It is five lanes and only one person per lane (that you schedule via the app or phone--I really hope they keep this after COVID because it's awesome not having to guess if a pool lane is open). They have a disability chair to get in and out, which was clutch after surgery. Normally, there are a bunch of pool accessories (fins, paddle boards), but they are limited right now because of COVID. The water aerobics class with Kelly is awesome for all ages and she helps me customize half the exercises. Locker-Room (Female side): The locker-room just reopened (after a year of being closed for COVID). Normally, they have a sauna room, jacuzzi, and steam-room but I don't know if those have reopened; otherwise, it's just lockers, bathrooms, and showers. The locker-room facilities are definitely older, but they have everything you need (including a bathing-suit spinner, hair dryers, flat-irons, and q-tips). COVID safety: This is going to sound cheesy, but it's true: I feel safer at the gym than I do at the doctor's office based on how well SACdt is keeping it clean. From the start, SACdt implemented thorough rules for keeping members safe at the gym, but their cleaning team is keeping it sterilized! They have an app to pick specific times to come in, there are limitations to five people per room in each session, in-between sessions their house-cleaning team cleans every machine and apparatus, they are checking temps at the front desk, and everyone is wearing masks. Personal Trainer: Lisa is AMAZING. I feel so ENERGIZED on days I work out! What do I mean by energized? You know the term "runner's high" that no one except runners seems to know---well, I am fairly certain this is what they mean (or as close as I'll ever get to it, because I am no runner). I'm pretty sure they do trial passes so you can try before you buy. ---------------------------------------- TLDR: - Personal training at SAC has changed my quality of life - SACdt has everything: Pool, squash courts, indoor track, mini climbing machine, basketball, body-composition machines, personal trainers, water aerobics, massages, boxing room---it is the most full-service gym I have ever been to. - COVID safe: Everything is cleaned each hour; Everyone is wearing masks; They did something cool to the HVAC system (no pun intended).

Ask the Community - Seattle Athletic Club

How much do 30 minute and 1 hour massages cost?

Does it have a steam room or a sauna room?

Yes! Steam room, sauna, pool, and hot tub.

What is the monthly membership cost? Thanks

$250 initiation fee and $103/month if you are a young adult. I think that is if you are under 30 years old. They also have a referral program which gets you a free month.

    Are there treadmills here?

    Yes

Is the swimming pool part of the monthly individual membership or is it something that needs to be purchased separately? Is the pool always busy?

you reserve a lane (4 lanes total) using their website. During peak times two of the lanes turn into a shared lane (max 2 ppl per lane). The other two lanes will always be single.

Rollie has a gift for tailoring every workout to my specific goals and abilities, and he always knows when to push me just enough without ever making me feel overwhelmed. I started going to the gym (another gym) earlier this year but I didn't know what I was doing and would just go around the gym trying different machines. Then I switched to pro fit and saw results immediately. I saw more progress in one month with pro fit than the previous 3-4 months at the other gym! And I'm not even exaggerating. I love that they would put up a workout on the board for me each time I come in and would try to squeeze me in when I couldn't make my usual time. Everyone was really friendly and would greet me each time I went in, and I was pleasantly surprised that all the trainers learned my name. I worked mostly with Chris and he was amazing! I I remember I could not run for more than 2 miles comfortably right before joining pro fit, and three months after, I can comfortably run 6-7 miles and broke my personal record again and again without intentionally trying to improve my running stats. I'm training for a half marathon, and that to me three months ago was unimaginable. They also have a body scale that breaks down your muscle mass and fat mass by arms/legs/etc, which has been really helpful in tracking progress. I had the silver package for three months and they are not cheap. But I'm still very glad that I tried them out and imo it was a small price to pay to get into better shape and more importantly develop habits that will help me with my workouts in the future!! 100/10 would recommend - I wish I could give them more than 5 stars

Here's what stands out to me-- The base membership is really affordable considering the quality of this facility, so you won't feel like you're wasting $$. There is an additional fee for parking garage access but it's affordable compared to the general street parking fees we have to endure in Seattle. Personally, I don't live within walking distance so the garage is a huge plus for me. All of the equipment and machines are regularly cleaned and maintained. Unfortunately, I've noticed that other gyms in the area tend to neglect cleanliness and long term machine function, so I truly appreciate how mindful the staff are of this. The last gym I went to charged more than Henry's, yet always had rusty machines that were falling apart. I also utilize the personal training services and have been working with Danny from the beginning. NW strong is a great option for a no-frills weight-lifting focused gym in Belltown. This place is stacked to the brim with equipment. There are as many squat racks as you can fit in a space like this (9?) and about a dozen benches and tons of options for dumbbells and kettlebells. More than you will see in many much larger gyms. There are also other kinds of equipment like air bike, rower, ski erg, treadmill, bands, sled, TRX straps, and I'm sure some things I'm forgetting. It's a compact footprint and Trevor has done an outstanding job efficiently equipping it to the max. The trainers I've observed here have all be high quality with their own unique style. There is also more of a community here than I think you get with some of the bigger gyms around. From a female perspective I will say that the clientele here is mostly men. There have been many times where the gym was packed and I was the only female present. That said, people here are nice, and respectful overall and it's a good spot to work out. If I lived closer, I'd consider being a member here. I would say the two downsides that may or may not impact you personally are that there is no locker room or shower to speak of (typical commercial building bathrooms shared by multiple tenants in the building) and the space would benefit from a few fans or stronger AC. This is fine 10 months of the year but it can get very stuffy and humid in the hottest days of the summer.
