I've used W&S Door Co. before for a garage door opener install and had no complaints, which is why…read moreI called them again after a lightning strike damaged my system. That experience is why this review is so disappointing. I was quoted $632.46 for the repair (excluding the remote and wall keypad) before the work was scheduled. After I received the final bill, I called the office to ask about some of the added items and was told my tenants had requested them. That wasn't true -- my tenants never requested anything, and I told the rep so directly. Once I pushed back, the story changed: I was then told the added components were necessary because the manufacturer had upgraded its security requirements (from "3.0" compatibility) since my last install, and the older opener setup was no longer compatible. If that's true, it means the office already knew this at the time they gave me the original $632.46 quote -- before ever sending anyone out. Either they quoted me knowing it was incomplete, or didn't bother to check compatibility before scheduling, and then tried to blame my tenants for the difference rather than just telling me the truth upfront. I don't mind paying for necessary parts. I do mind being lied to about why I'm paying for them. A straightforward "the new security standard requires additional hardware" would have been a completely reasonable explanation from the start. Blaming tenants who had nothing to do with it, and only changing the story once I challenged it, is not something I can overlook. I'd recommend getting a detailed, itemized quote in writing before scheduling any work with this company, and asking directly whether all listed components are required for compatibility with your existing system - or better yet, hire someone else.

Never got a call from the tech who supposedly was at my house. Got a rude call that they "left numerous messages" which is not true. Their customer service is to blame the customer.
