I have eaten here many many times. Food is always great. Service is always exceptional.

We are customers of this restaurant for over 12 years. We have had some bad food or service and have stopped eating there for a while and then came back. We ate there two days ago and the dinner I had was terrible, worse I have ever had at Lakehurst. I ordered baked shells; the food was not eatable. The ricotta inside the shells was a Semi solid. It was totally dried out. I was able to pick up the cheese with my fork. It was tasteless. The pasta, shell, I needed to use a knife to cut through the pasta, at the bottom of the shell the knife wouldn't cut, that too was totally dried out. The sauce was bitter, very thick, it seemed to have been reheated, maybe in a microwave. I ate one half of a shell and could not go further. My wife ordered pork chops. A week ago, I had the pork chops and they are outstanding. Her order of pork chops was over cooked, very little juice. Compared to my dinner, the chops were better, so I ate one of the pork chops. I did tell the waitress that the shells were terrible, and after she spoke to, I'm guessing a manager, the price for the shells was taken off of the bill. That was fine, not what I was concerned with, I thought the kitchen needed to know they should not be serving food like this. My wife and I have agreed that we will not come back to Lakehurst Dinner again. read more

Hubby and I eat here at least once a month after visiting my MIL. Something to be said about a simple meal, that checks off all the needs. I like the triple decker sandwich (club sandwich) extra bacon and mayo- tomatoes are fresh and lettuce is crispy all on toasted bread, simple and filling. Hubby likes breakfast or one of the hot open face sandwich, we enjoy the coffee, never an empty coffee cup and every once in a while, we see someone we know. It really is a great little spot to have breakfast or lunch and an early dinner is great, since I am not big on dished and hate to grocery shop on an empty stomach. read more

Diners are everywhere here but this one is unique for a couple of reasons: Burgers and Breakfast. They do these two things right. The Breakfast selections are vast and for every appetite. They make traditional faves like egg and taylor ham/pork roll sandwiches, pancakes, egg & meat dishes, omelets, pastries, fruit, cereal, oatmeal, etc. The coffee is flowing day or night. The breakfast potatoes are good. You can jazz them up by ordering them with onions or have them plain. They serve the food hot and promptly. The burgers are craveable. They have all different ones from the traditional to the Bacon Cheeseburger, the Veggie, the California, the pizza, the turkey and more. They come with a tiny tiny side of coleslaw and a pickle. They can be ordered with deluxe with the coleslaw and pickle plus with fresh lettuce and tomato and fries. They have side orders too. They are a decent size and so delish. The family owner(s) seat you so you don't really get to choose a server but you can choose a booth or a table. If your server says she is Mary you are in for a good meal. Our server was Mary (MG) recently and she was fantastic. She really took care of us. She was friendly and attentive. read more

I came here with my nerf squad after game. A lovely place with a warm welcome and helpful service. When you get the chance stop by for a bite. I loved my B.L.T meal. Cheese burger deluxe and California chesse Burger was so good that my squad wolf it down. read more

I came here with my son and my sister in law's husband for some absolutely scrumptious, delicious, and downright incredible French toast. To say I wasn't let down would be an understatement. The French toast exemplified how to make a perfect, classic American breakfast. It was delicious without using pounds of powdered sugar and extra ingredients. The service was not only fast, but it was also very enjoyable. The man who waited on us was very nice and always came to top us up on our coffee (something which I take with utmost seriousness . The ambiance was almost too great to bear. The aura from the waitstaff and the lighting made the meal taste 100 times better. I love this place and will be returning soon! read more

Another visit to the Lakehurst Diner. Nothing has really changed. It is clean, the prices are reasonable, service is good and the food is delicious. I had a spinach and mushroom omelette with the potatoes, scrapple as a side and a biscuit. The biscuit was a little lacking but still good enough. The eggs were great and the scrapple was a nice piece cooked on nicely on the griddle. Great breakfast. read more

I love going to this diner! It is an old fashioned ambiance, not all glitzy and fake like some.My favorite waiter is Peter. He is very old school, and exudes an air of customer service. My favorite dinner is chicken franchise with artichokes. Even when it's not on the menu, they make it for me. I don't have a lot of strength in my hands, so Peter fills up my to go boxes for me. The rice pudding is thick and tasty. One time I got up to pay, and realized I had lost my wallet. I was frantic, but Dan at the register was calm, and simply told me to leave my name and phone number and to bring the payment in when I found my wallet. Luckily I found it in my car, slipped between the seat and the door so I was able to go back right away and pay. What can I say... just good old fashioned customer service. If you can call before you go in and ask if Peter is working that night, you are in for a treat. read more

We love diners, how could you be from Jersey and not? Stopped here after an outing and not busy at all. Waitress was very friendly. I had French toast and sausage, it was ok, bland and sausage had no taste, not what I am used to. Some parts of French toast were burnt. Syrup was watery. BF had creamed chipped beef which he sent back because it tasted sour and was clumpy, completely threw off his appetite. Daughter had Reuben which she said was decent. Her friend had the appetizer sampler and the chicken was absolutely bland, no flavor. My first clue to leave should have been the flies in the bathroom. We always seek out this place when coming from Florida to visit family in the area. Very good consistency in quality dishes - not sure if you could ever get anything bad here. We had a lovely older waitress who was spot-on with coffee refills. The place is typical Jersey diner which we miss in the south - just wish it was closer. read more

Had the special: shrimp and scallops. Disappointed with the quantity. All the scallops had sand encrusted on the bottom. Waiter asked if I wanted another dish. No apology on behalf of the restaurant. Gave a piece of advice to the manager at the register: "You might want to have the cook clean the scallops of sand." "Yeah, I heard something about that." No apologies. Just moved back to Jersey and let me tell how much I missed diners. My husband and I came for a late dinner a couple nights ago and were waited on by Mary. She was phenomenal. Ordered my staples - matzah ball soup and a Greek gyro. Husband had the pancakes eggs and ham. I ordered rice pudding to go for my momma, and a chocolate cheesecake for myself. I would go back just for the chocolate cheesecake. Nice and clean inside, will definitely return in the future. read more

This diner was a straight up letdown. First of all when I ordered a sandwich the last thing I expect was kraft slice of cheese on it. You literally could see the imprint from the wrapper. The coleslaw had no flavor what so ever, gross. One of my waters had a fruit fly. Waitress was great but can't make up for the terrible food. We were there for breakfast for the first time, and the food was just ok. Our server was not OK. Pleasantry does go very far, and this lady was doing her job, but was borderline doing her job and being rude with a smile. When we told her that our order was wrong and it was missing asparagus, her response was "I didn't hear you say asparagus", with the tone of reprimand. We will not be back. read more

I live in Huntington Beach CA and often travel to the East Coast. I'm always on the look out for a good diner and/or deli as these aren't easily found at home. I love a good liver and onions. A hidden gem! Ran into here after work not knowing what I was getting into and I will say I was very pleased. The food was prepared very quickly, but don't let that fool you, it was amazing! Between the mouth watering mozzarella sticks and the tender yet crispy french dip, I barley had room for dessert! A great disappointment!! Order Corned Beef and Hash, which. Was riddled with nothing but fat and grizzled. I made the waitress aware of the situation, and she offered a different meal, but I declined. . I then made the owner aware of the situation of the fatty Corned Beef, and she offered to take a dollar off the bill. Again a GREAT DISAPPOINTMENT. This is as diner a diner as diners come. You have the usual mints with jelly and desserts in glass casing at the front near the register. There's a bar with stools also near the front. The booths are plentiful, there's lots of seniors there and daily specials. Parking is plentiful and so are tables. We were a little unsure at first about our waitress as she seemed a bit cold but we're awesome and can get an igloo to warm up. After talking to her I think she was as unsure of us initially as we were of her. She took care of us very much like a mom would even forcing me to "eat up". The food was good but my pasta needed lots of salt which was readily available at our table. The starter bread was yummy and had some herbs baked in. My friend had the fish & chips but subbed onion rings for the chips and it was pretty yummy. I know it sounds silly but I quite enjoyed the chicken alphabet soup. I think it took me back to childhood, honestly when's the last time you've had alphabet pasta lol?! They definitely have decent and standard diner fare and affordable daily specials are available. Food was typical diner food. Nothing spectacular but still good. 5 star rating is for the service. We were greeted as soon as we walked in and sat promptly. Our server, Charleise (I may have her name wrong but it was similar) was excellent. She was friendly, got our order out quickly and checked to make sure we had everything we needed. This was the worst grilled chicken Caesar Caesar salad that I have ever had tomatoes maybe one and a half thinly sliced chicken breast, lettuce and tomato and about six croutons for $17 and it tasted like crap.
