Absolutely horrible experience at Holiday City Diner. I ordered the meatball parm, and it was disgusting--the meatballs tasted old and not fresh at all, and the sauce had zero flavor. My other half got a hamburger, and the meat looked off. She couldn't even eat it. Honestly, I don't know if they're using cheap ingredients or old products, but either way, it was gross. The ambience was terrible and the service was just "meh." To top it off, there was an older gentleman sitting at the bar who had clearly peed his pants--and no one working there did anything about it. That sealed the deal. Never going back again. read more

Well, I always love a bargain! And, this Diner situated in the midst of multiple 55 plus communities understands that folks on retirement incomes don't want to be overcharged for anything. I was first intrigued by the interior of this Diner but as I said and sent my coffee while I'm waiting for my breakfast, I realized it has a certain calmness to it. the servers knew to refill coffee cups and the menu offered a nice variety of inexpensive breakfasts. As a jam lover, I couldn't help but notice that every table only had grape jelly. I was really curious and somewhat disappointed, but when my meal was served the waitress smiled and asked if I would like orange, marmalade or strawberry jam. Apparently, they understand that these 55+ folks just might take a few jams home with them If tempted by a full rack of jams and marmalades. I was very happy. The coffee was hot, fresh and good tasting! The home fries were crisp as ordered and the Spanish omelette had a nice flavor to the sauce. There is One particular obnoxious, arrogant, loud and rude hostess/cashier employed there. Owner and fellow employees and many regular customers -- and SHE -- knows who I am referring to.. The early bird special that my friend & I had during their lunch time hours I would highly recommend. It was Chicken soup, Stuffed Flounder with Crabmeat & mashed potatoes with gravy & ice cream for dessert. Soup is an outstanding addition to any meal. All soups at Holiday City diner are amazing. Last time there, I had the Navy Bean soup. The best I've ever had. And at my senior age, that's really saying something. In addition, I had a chicken salad club sandwich on Rye toast. The chicken salad made my taste buds so happy. I told the owner of my delight with what I had for lunch. He smiled and proudly stated that all selections are made fresh and from scratch. Good food and service. However, the owner says he doesn't charge a service charge on cards, but he definitely cut his portions down since covid. The CC card is obvious , but the cut back on portions is hidden and sneaky. Other diners in the area give way more for the money. read more

After Cardiac Rehab and Dr's appointments, I had to eat something but I didn't want fast food. It was already late in the day and I was bottoming out. My MIL lives close by, and had previously suggested to have lunch there. Since I was so tired and Tam was with me, we decided to pop on in and get something simple. We were immediately seated and offered clean menus. Our server was so friendly went over the day specials and after she took our drink order. I ordered the French dip with fries ( no salt) and it was delicious. Plenty of thin sliced roast beef, layered on a toasted roll and the au jus was absolutely tasty!! The fries were super crisp on the outside and fluffy potato on the inside!! Perfect fries. Tam had an omelet with bacon, no cheese, veggie, seasoning or anything else inside, with home fries without onions and peppers.. how she hasn't withered away after all these years with her unbelievable and unyielding dislike for most every fruit, all veggies beside okra, artichoke and tomatoes. Most proteins and sauce.. the world will never know!! LOL But she did enjoy that omelet!! And that French dip was no joke!!! Prices were reasonable and since the diner is in the middle of Holiday City, it's accessible to all the neighborhoods. Was a long-time, mostly satisfied customer with the good menu options plus pretty good service. However, sometimes when dining there, we would tend to overlook &/or dismiss & try to ignore occasional one particular hostess/cashier's loud, rude, obnoxious behavior when she was speaking to servers &/or customers as if there were no patrons in the restaurant that could hear her loud rude obnoxious mouth. The other host/cashier young gentlemen were very professional & polite when present working their shift(s).. However, at our last time dining there, we were shocked and mortified at the rude, nasty, arrogant & disrespectful remarks that were so very uncalled for coming from her shameful, obnoxious, disrespectful mouth toward us as we paid our bill. She very loudly stated that she .."hoped we left more than a $5 tip for the waitress..". I stated that we ALWAYS leave 20 percent ~ & then she shouted to the waitress that was listening at the counter asking her how much tip she got from us & the rude waitress shouted back for the entire restaurant patrons to hear, ~~ that only $5. I stated that it was $7 cash that we personally handed her & the waitress yelled again .."No: $5"-- then she slammed into the kitchen to disappear. .I then gave the rude cashier/hostess an additional $10 to give to the obnoxious server/waitress ~ so NOW she had a $17 tip - ~~ thinking that she would appear & thank us & apologize.. ~~ HAH no way.. The cashier/hostess even gave us a nasty look as she rudely grabbed the $10 bill from me.. We left quickly & met some other patrons outside that were shocked at what they witnessed as i am a DISABLED VETERAN & a frequent patron that always tips very good & compliments my servers, etc. We were extremely upset & mortified & so of course we called the owner the next day to inform him of what transpired & he did apologize & said he .."would speak to both of them about it.." ~~ that's all.. We Never heard back from him. That so-called cashier/hostess should have been fired for her rude, obnoxious, mean, nasty, loud & bullying behavior - along with the server/waitress.. ( Its called "CLASS".. Either you have it or not ~ & clearly these two dont have a clue !!). There is more to this shocking, totally uncalled-for experience/encounter that I will not state here; it's too upsetting .. Needless to say tho, we will not be returning , nor will the other patrons that witnessed this horrific scene & were just as disgusted & shocked as we were.. read more

Visited the Holiday City Diner today and received a face-time call- - the volume was low and it was like I was talking to the person next to me- the waitress rudely came over and told me that the speaker was not allowed - note there were just a few tables seated and people speaking much louder than I - as they bunch everyone together while there are plenty of tables- note- there is a way to be polite in these situations and that did not occur as all the other patrons were staring as she made a scene over this- they lost two local customers- you would think they would want a bit of life in the place as the business is dwindling- regardless we left over a 25% tip--- as always as it could have been the hostess who thinks she is doing you a favor when you come in - good luck keeping this place open with competition where customers are respected and minor issues are not blown out of proportion read more

Brought the dinners home (I'm six minutes away) the meatloaf was okay, the chicken dinner smelled and tasted foul. I went back to the diner only to have the owner and the cashier gang-up on me...saying it's good, we're not givng you back your money and really yelling....WTF!!!! I didn't ask for my money back, I was going to order something different...but the nasty tone from both of them made me too nervous to even eat....the owner said he was in business for 19 years...another shocking fact! I've been to this spot a few times and the service is always top notch. My personal experience has always been fun and friendly. The food is delicious and consistent. I'm a big fan of their breakfast menu. The home fries are phenomenal at this spot. Being a diner in NJ means the bar is set pretty high. Owner and his staff are funny, kind, and just awesome. I have always had a good meal here until last week. I ordered flounder franchise with linguine. The waitress was very nice and efficient, the dish looked delicious with 3 pieces of fish. But, one bite, and it was so fishy I could not eat it. I tried a piece of the 2nd piece to see if it was any better and it was not. I sent it back and ordered a burger. Then the rude owner came to my table and told me "it taste like that because the fish is dipped in egg and then flour and it holds the fishy taste, he then told me, now you know what it taste like, so don't order it again and waste my money!". I told him I have had plenty of flounder franchise and never had it taste so bad and that I did not appreciate him speaking to me in that manner, scolding me, and he should have apologized for his behavior and for the fish and gladly accepted another order. I told him I would never return because of his rude behavior. He does not know how to run a business, I feel bad for the wait staff that have to deal with him. read more

Went for dinner with my family. The staff is excellent, but the owner leaves a lot to be desired. He refused to give a customer who was on a special diet an extra salad, when they weren't having the soup, potato, vegetable and dessert. And on top of everything he had to pay an extra $5 for the broccoli. The owner came out, no mask and totally embarrassed the man and demanded he tell him who gave him the extra salad (mind you it's a tiny dish). The customer wouldn't tell him and it turned into a heated dispute where the customer and his whole family got up after being served their soup and left. The owner spited himself. He lost 5 dinners and refused to budge after being told that the customer was on a special diet. I will not be returning to the dinner. And I will also pass the word on to my friends in the 55 plus retirement community not to go there. But I must give credit to the waitress staff. They are friendly, accommodating and go the extra mile to make the customer happy. Shame on the owner for being so mean and non-accommodating. read more

my friend comes up to visit me from Fla. a lot and we always make breakfast there while he's here. The place is # 1 ! The food is Great, Service Great, Cook is Great, Hostess are Great ! Went to try out my friend's diner for the first time and needless to say it was amazing! We didnt wait long since it was only my girlfriend and I, I ordered blueberry belgian waffles and she ordered pancakes. Also a side of bacon and a side of WELL DONE corned beef hash which is our absolute favorite! Food was so inexpensive and so delicious. Pretty below average diner. They were very busy, but that's was only because of all the senior citizens that were there for the cheap breakfast. I ordered the breakfast special of 2 eggs, hash browns, bacon, and an English muffin. None of us were offered the free juice which came with our breakfast. Service was awful. Waitress never checked on us, I needed a water which I never had a chance to ask for, and no one ever came to clear our plates. To top it off when we walked up to the counter to pay the woman that was at the register just walked away. Very odd. Food was ok. Nothing special. Bacon was undercooked. The food is good and most of the waitresses r really nice. The owner is a rude miserable man who seems to hate little ones. He should put a sign on his door that children are not welcome. This is the second and last time I will deal with him because I will no longer go there, no matter how good the food is. My 2 year old grand daughter was walking ahead of me to the restroom, and turned around to see where I was and when she turned back around she hit the corner of one of the tables with her neck. Instead of this idiot asking if she was ok he made a comment and said that's why they shouldn't be running. I had a few choice words for him and said she was not running. Just moved to this area from Brick. Wanted to go some place close to home. This place was only a few miles away. The place was clean but my biggest gripe is that the portions are terribly small. I've been to many diners and for the same price give or take a couple bucks portions at those diners are huge. Maybe being in a senior citizen development has a part to do with it. I paid 17.95 for a broiled seafood combination and I got 2 shrimp, 2 small scallops and the smallest of tilapia. And the vegetables were small. I left hungry!!!! I will not return. read more
