I want to share a serious pattern of behavior I experienced across three separate staff members during several trips with this company: tour director Debbie Card, tour guide Lisa, and bus driver Sean. Debbie Card repeatedly crossed professional boundaries throughout multiple trips. She was condescending to me the entire time, closely monitoring my movements and narrating everything I did, when I simply wanted to be left alone. I was polite about it, but that only seemed to encourage more of the same behavior rather than less. On one trip, she put her hands on my shoulders and physically walked me through a dining room, forcing me to sit next to her and Sean, both of whom intimidated me with personal questions the entire time. When I tried to explain that I simply wanted to sit by myself and enjoy my own company, she became loud and obnoxious about it. She also made condescending remarks to my teenage daughter, criticizing her for wearing a jacket in the summer -- an inappropriate and unnecessary comment from an adult in her sixties toward a young teenager who was doing nothing wrong. Tour guide Lisa was reportedly cleaning up a coffee spill nearby -- I was reading my magazine and hadn't said a word or given any indication of an issue -- yet she put her hands all over my legs and shoulders, patting me condescendingly as though I had caused a problem or needed to be soothed. I had to tell her directly to take her hands off me. "I didn't even say anything," and yet she still treated me as if I had. She also had a pattern of insinuating I was causing problems where none existed -- for example, when I simply walked past a building, she commented, "Oh, you're trying to get in the building, are you?" as if I had done something suspicious. I later told her explicitly that she needed to be professional with me and limit our interactions to itinerary information only. Rather than respect that, she twisted the request and used it against me. From that point forward, she manufactured problems and turned the staff and other passengers against me, seemingly unable to tolerate a passenger who was simply calm and enjoying herself independently. Bus driver Sean added to this hostile environment. During the dining room incident, he was part of the intimidating personal questioning I was forced into. Separately, he commented on my appearance to other passengers, acted overly familiar as if he knew me personally, and gave me dirty, intimidating looks without provocation throughout the trip. I paid a single supplement specifically to travel independently within a group setting, and chose a group tour for the logistics and safety it's supposed to provide. Instead, I felt targeted, unsafe, and taken advantage of by the very staff meant to ensure a safe, respectful experience. I complained to the company directly, and absolutely nothing was done. Their response was essentially that if I didn't like the tour guides, I should go elsewhere -- no retraining, no accountability, no real acknowledgment of the pattern. I spent a significant amount of my own hard-earned money across several trips with this company to be treated this way, and they showed no interest in fixing it. This is not a one-off bad experience -- it's a pattern across three separate staff members and multiple trips that speaks to a much larger problem with how this company trains, manages, and holds its employees accountable. I would strongly caution anyone considering booking with them, especially if you value being treated with basic respect, safety, and independence. read more

Being a black passenger on this bus is a joke! One, you nearly paying 500-520 for the bus pass and 136 for omny card. Reaching 636 per month to ride and taking the subway for work in nyc. The level of racism from the passengers is off the charts!!! One or two drivers are absolutely rude asf. Leaving that for another time... Since our new political changes.Now the white passengers do not want you sitting next to them. Most try to ram their elbow in my rib cage or make their legs so wide that I nearly fall off the seat! The last guy hoof and puffed like it was a comedy! As I looked at him with amazement on how he is displaying his anger and watching podcast on his phone (none of my business but it does influence how you respond after watching them). When I finally snap asking them to stop they calm down then revert back to the beginning. No one is defending black brown women on the bus! It is a free for all. I do not feel safe amongst any white or white passing paying customers because they did not pay for my chair. They do not think my money is good enough to ride the bus for work! Even the asians brown ones too behave like this! No I am not supposed to take but speaking up about just makes me further target for racist tactics. this is not the 1940's anymore it is 2025! Maybe you support white superiority over black and brown passengers despite you have several drivers of such background. The company hired a driver who looks like an Indian. He drives during peak hours extremely unstably, brakes abruptly, and abuse passengers. Zero communication from this driver during traffic accidents for more than 3 hours for an 1-hour ride, while other buses either surpass Lakeland or detour. Long before Uber and Lyft were around, Lakeland Bus Line would take you almost anywhere you wanted to go as long as you didn't mind stopping at every corner. But that was the deal back then, you really had no choice. And now we got choices. But Lakeland Buses are still around because of necessity. People use these to get to Work, the Shopping Malls, and even Doctors Offices. I grab a Bus every now and then to go the City to see a Show or Concert and if it's the direct line, they don't stop at every corner. They even ask the people on the Bus "who needs to stop where?" just so we all can get to where we're going faster. One time as a young teenager I took the Bus in to NYC so I could head to Madison Square Garden for the Scorpions and Rainbow Concert. It Was A Killer Show!! Anyway I was headed back to the last Bus but it was overcrowded so me and my two friends had to get off. I'll never forget the Lakeland Bus driver tell me they're gonna be sending another Bus for us. "Just wait on the platform" he said. "Don't leave the Port Authority Station platform young man!" Yeah Right, I thought there was No Way they would send a Bus just for 3 Kids. NYC was alot different back then and when the last Bus would leave, the crackheads and night dwellers were all over the empty Terminal areas. So it turned out to be alot tougher to stay on the platform then we thought it was gonna be. We stood our ground. Well about an hour later that Bus pulled in the Terminal and we got on and headed home. And I never forgot that adventure or the way Lakeland handled it. And in the following weeks we went to see Judas Priest and Iron Maiden which was also a Seriously Killer Show!! "\m/" and I'm pretty sure we were like, the first ones back on the Bus for that one, lol. So what I'm really saying is, that even today this Bus Line is run by people who don't mind serving people. Claiming "Only seeing eye dogs are allowed, because blindness is a REAL disability" ... As I was trying to present my paperwork for epilepsy, he smirked and got louder and much more rude. I asked for my refund, and have filed a BIAS Discrimination complaint with the attorney general's office. We call your contact (973-366-0600) for over two hour and we have continuously being sent to the voicemail. I am highly disturbed with your service and It is honestly the worst thing we have ever had to deal with. I was located at MT. Lakes-RT 46 & Blvd. and I have been sitting there since 12:00pm. It really is zero stars! Totally unreliable and always late. No dispatchers instructing passengers and providing information when buses are late. Passengers go outside the waiting station looking through the lanes straining their necks hoping the bus would come. It's a safety issue because they cross to the other side and could get run over by other buses. Since there is no dispatcher, no one prevents passengers from going out to the bus lanes where the buses are. Poor management! read more

I take Lakeland bus to NYC for over 6 years daily from Rockaway mall, NJ. Service quality always been barely acceptible to horrendous. Since the covid re-opening they managed to establish a new low in quality. There is zero regard to their own posted schedules. 7:50 am departing bus shows up at 8 am if we are lucky. With all th accomodating of cash payers, question bearers and suitcase loaders, the bus doesnt leave until 8:10 am. This naturally screws up the 8:50 am arrival to NYC and pushes eaaily 20 minutes plus. Company has zero interest in taking any corrective action to address any of these, except hiring some weirdos who pulls the bus over and threatens those rare cell phone users with calling the police. Despite having a car, sometimes it's just easier to take a bus into Manhattan, so that you don't have to bother with parking, driving on a snowy day, etc. I've taken the Lakeland Bus 46 both to/from Parsippany to Port Authority Bus Terminal and it's been a very easy and pleasant experience. Note if you're going from the Port Authority Bus Terminal you'll need to buy your ticket before going on the bus, but if you're getting picked up and going Eastbound, then you can buy your ticket directly from the driver. It cost me $8.75 to go from Rte 202 & 46 to Manhattan and about 45 mins. They have bueses that leave almost every half-hour on Sat and every hour on Sun, making it really convenient to get into the city. read more

I take this bus round trip daily from Denville to NYC & back to Denville & have been for years. I can say that with the exception of a few drivers, this bus company is great! John, the dispatcher guy at port authority is awesome! Always so kind & patient. Most of the drivers are nice, HOWEVER the ones that aren't are VERY RUDE! I cannot believe they are bus drivers?! How can someone who doesn't respond to people when customers ask questions or say good morning back be permitted to drive public transportation buses?! I've had another driver literally yell to more than one rider: "I told you NOT TO PUSH THE OVERHEAD STOP BUTTON!" Excuse me?! Who does he think he is?? And how the heck are you going to know when to stop? The weekend 6:30 am driver is soooo nasty! Rude, miserable man. Most of the drivers are nice but the select few that are nasty would serve everyone better by working alone behind the scenes and not with people. Wish they would offer multi-trip DISCOUNTED tickets or a monthly pass! We recently took a tour to Mackinac Island with Lakeland Bus Tours , Dover NJ. The entire trip from beginning to end, choice of hotels, stops and food were spot on. Our bus driver, Tom, was excellent. Never once did I worry about his driving or our safety. Our tour guide, Sue, was professional, pleasant and fun. She made it appear that her job was effortless, and we all know with 45 -50 people and personalities, it must have not been a piece of cake all the time. Both driver and tour guide were professional and accommodating (to the point of an unscheduled stop for my husband's saline solution!!) to the nth degree. We used Lakeland Bus Company for our wedding on December 16th. We spoke to the company two weeks prior and advised them to have both buses leave at the same time from the hotel and from the venue. From the hotel, the first bus left 5 minutes early with 20+ seats remaining. The second bus forced our guests to stand since the first bus had already departed. From the venue, the same exact thing happened but on top of that, they left the bride, groom, immediately family, and additional people behind and stranded at the venue. We could not leave the venue for an additional hour and had to have GUESTS come and pick us up. They did not offer any apologies on the situation and did not try to rectify it in anyway. I will never use Lakeland bus again and do not recommend them for anyone's special day. read more

It takes a lot to really tick me off that I take the time and effort to write a bad Yelp review. Overall, I can understand the buses sometimes won't be able to stick to the schedule because -- well, New York City traffic. I can put up with some buses smelling like piss during the summer. And I don't really care for the fact that it's 2019 and the company still only uses physical tickets and cash only. But there is this one sorry, miserable excuse of a decent human-being (African-American male) driving the night buses (today, he drove the 7:50PM out of Port Authority) who keeps the ratings low. He is the only one I see that consistently gives the most inexcusable attitude towards customers. One time, he barked at a poor lady who clearly just needed guidance on how to get a ticket. I already saw a red flag when I boarded today. He barely made an effort to take my ticket... had to literally slide it into his can-care-less-barely-outstretched hands. Passengers always notify the bus drivers as they board where they need to get off, which I did. THIS GUY.... this guy clearly saw me stand up to get off at the next stop. He purposely announced that he needs to have the stop button pushed (never a requirement and never enforced with other bus drivers) and PURPOSELY drove past my stop. He let me off at the next stop, and I had to walk in one of the COLDEST and WINDIEST night of the week to my car. I still give 2-stars for the rest of the nice drivers and dispatchers, but someone needs to address this guy's attitude. read more

DO NOT GO ON A TOUR WITH THEM Went on the Christmas tour last weekend with 4 friends, itinerary in hand We got dropped off at Grand Central to tour there and then we chose to walk to Bryant Park Frank( tour guide) told us what time to be back Boarded bus at 5:40, next stop, Rockefeller Center Frank informs us we will have 1 hour, itinerary says 1&1/2, frank says Bob said... ok... it took us 1 hour & 40 minutes to get from grand central to the tree, our driver got in to an argument by a NYC cop that physically hit the bus, we never got to get off to see the tree, only drove past it, on each side... how nice Never got to Macy's or Sax also on the itinerary. We did spend 5 minutes at Lord & Taylor I paid $29 to sit on a bus from 2:30-10:12 with 1&1/2 hours out to tour the city! Frank blamed NYC and cold staying they don't want the bus tours and blocked us from going that way The driver was incredibly agitated and flew through port authority to get back to Rockaway, speeding the whole way! I'm pretty sure I'd be preaching to the choir if I went into details of the sorry state of mass transit in this country. This bus service gets you from point A to point B but very unreliably. From my experience, the weekend schedule is just for show. There's very minimum adherence to it and very little accountability from the part of the company when something goes wrong. Just the other day I ended up waiting over an hour for a bus for no apparent reason - there was no rain, no traffic, etc. It's rather unfortunate that there are very many options around here when it comes to mass transit. Although this bus runs under the illusion of being an independent company, I'm pretty sure it is affiliated with NJ Transit and therefore any sort of complaint or issue will go unnoticed. I am from the city, and my boyfriend unfortunately lives in Warren County, NJ. Since the NJT train only goes to Denville/Dover, we thought we'd give this bus a try, since it gets me a little closer to his area. I went to the bus company's website (which is, according to my browser, riddled with viruses and malware) to pull up the schedule. Problem: the schedule doesn't tell you where the bus actually stops. You're just expected to know where "Stanhope Park & Ride" is. Google doesn't even know where that is. There are no addresses or route maps provided anywhere. We chose to meet at "Behind Shop Rite" in Newton, hoping there was only one Shop Rite in Newton. I screwed up the oh-so-logically-organized schedules for the bus going to "Behind Shop Rite," and saw that the next bus out of [the sketchiest part of] PABT was actually going to "Budd Lake." No address, just the name of the town. One of the nice folks waiting on the bus line told me it stops at 7-11 on 46. Thank heavens for that lady. I promptly called Boyfriend with change of plans, and luckily, 7-11 on 46 was listed on the Google. The bus. On the upside, it's very clean. It apparently had brand new brakes, too, because the driver had no idea how to roll to a stop. It was like riding a giant vomiting cat. Digression: there are no bathrooms on this bus, so don't drink anything the day of your trip. Catching a little attitude for going to the last stop on the driver's route (like I wanted to spend extra time with him) we herky jerked our way to 7-11. Unfortunately, the "bus stop" was just a random sign planted on the side of the road, opposite said 7-11, and I was unceremoniously dumped on the wrong side of a 4-lane highway...that bends, with no traffic light or anything. You know that part in Frogger where the unforeseen truck comes whizzing by and creams you? Frogger wasn't wearing $8 ballet flats and wasn't grossly over-packed for the weekend. To sum up, take the train and make him drive the extra 25 miles to get you. read more

He was rude, inconsiderate, literally screamed at me for not having bills smaller than a $20, and threatened to not allow me to board. I have never felt more embarrassed. This review is strictly for the 10pm bus on Sunday's from Dover to New York. There are a group of 4-6 Asian men who scatter themselves on the bus (sitting across and diagonally from one another, but never next to one another) and abnoxiously talk extremely loud as if they are yelling. Even with headphones on you can hear them. Some of them reek of smoke on their clothes and if you sit even 2 rows from them you have to cover your nose. The past 5 rides each Sunday this group of men can be found - and each time they talk loud and the driver's don't say anything to them. If they were talking on cell phones it would be quieter. I have a headache after the ride is completed. For the entire 2 hours these men never stop talking (yelling) to one another. Please do something about this bus ride!!! read more

I used to take the Route 46 Eastbound bus to New York every once in a while, and the Lakeland bus is ALWAYS late. It might be 10 minutes late. Sometimes 20. Sometimes 30. There's no point in having a bus schedule at all. Do yourself a favour and go to Willowbrook Mall to catch an NJ Transit bus to NYC. That one is exponentially more dependable. read more

Nightmares! The bus schedule they have on their website is completely wrong. I missed my bus home from Port Authority because of their outdated schedule. The schedule says my 7:00pm bus home is gate 206. It was actually gate 207, door 2. I had to ask three different Lakeland employees before someone knew which was the correct gate. There is no way to find out which gate your bus is. I hear people every night who are not on the right line because Lakeland's schedule is wrong. Lakeland sucks. I think they stay in business because they are the only bus to/from NYC from Morris County. Get it together. How hard is it to update your website? You can tell Lakeland doesn't care about their customers because they do not respond to any of these comments. Some of their drivers are the most miserable aholes you'll ever meet. Then when people stop taking Lakeland and that bus driver is out of a job, he'll think his bad attitude had nothing to do with why people stopped taking the bus. No one ever thought the Post Office would be downsized. People have other options today (train, lyft, uber, etc.). Don't bother calling the Dover Bus Depot to complain about a driver. They don't care and the drivers are in a union and can't be fired, which is probably why they act the way they do to customers. Aholes. UPDATE: 10/1/2016. Today the bus came 5 minutes early and left without me. The bus has also come as much as 25 minutes late. When you get to the stop, how do you know if the bus is late or has already left? You can't know unless you saw it drive away! Bottom line is that the scheduled service comes at random times. If you have time to waste standing at a bus stop, the service is fine. Get there 10 minutes early and know you may have to wait another 20-30 minutes if the bus is late. If you want some consistency on your commute, this is not the service to use. read more

I only took this bus on the weekend once. I normally drive to the city on weekends since parking is much much easier. I am extremely happy with the cleanliness of these buses. I grew up in Parsippany,NJ and began using Lakeland to travel to New York in the 1970's. I used Lakeland to commute to my first job in the big city in 1977. Living all over northern NJ subsequently, I had to use NJ Transit to travel to NY. I always missed the superior service Lakeland provided. I now live in NYC and still use Lakeland to visit family and friends in Morris County. In a world of corporate mega-companies and services, Lakeland stands out as a private small company that provides friendly reliable service. The staff is helpful and pleasant and the new buses are a joy. This evening the service I received went far above. I arrived at the bus stop just as the bus was pulling away. I sounded the horn of the car I was in and the driver of bus 17191 at 7:30pm at Rt. 202, actually pulled to the shoulder and waited for me with the door open as I grabbed my things and ran to it. I don't have many choices for NYC commute - basically, I'm in the hands of this bus company to get me to work and back home. During the NJ/NYC train fiasco this summer, the commute has been difficult, but manageable. They added more busses, which is good - but here's the catch: they don't inform their new drivers of proper routes. What has been a complete disaster and commuter hell, is the closure and repairs in Berkeley Heights. Just this past week, the 7:15am bus didn't come three times. Three times I called the dispatcher at the depot, and received three rude and different stories: the route has been changed; the bus WAS there; the radio is not working in the bus - they don't know where the driver is (comforting to know they send out half broken busses). There IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE!! They don't know how to speak to people... Last night the driver refused to go down Springfield, past South St. - said: those are new rules. So I was dropped off at a point where I walked 25 minutes home. I don't mind walking, but I had heavy equipment from work, this was unplanned, and according to a friend on the bus right before me - her driver used the regular route. So I called. Then my husband called. Then we spoke to another bus driver this morning... and guess what?! Three completely different versions of where/how/when buses drive. I give up!! I just chartered a Lakeland Bus for a church trip. First I called charter-only bus services in the city. That was a mistake. One didn't have the size bus I needed (over 40 passenger, bathroom). The other had horrible ratings on Yelp. I then remembered that I could call Lakeland -- the commuter bus line that I used when I lived in NJ. They have lots of buses sitting around on Saturdays (when the trip would be), and I know they know what they are doing. I also figured so what if they have to come from NJ to pick us up on Manhattan -- It's probably easier than coming from Brooklyn! So I called the charter department (Candy, I think was the rep's name), got a great rate (less than the city companies charged) and a great driver named Sal. read more

This bus company, which is the only option for many people heading into NYC (especially now that NJ Transit is repairing tracks into Penn Station) had an amazing opportunity to increase their ridership and totally blew it. Not only did they increase fares, but their service has been unreliable. In just the last 10 days, three scheduled buses have just not shown up. Each time I called customer service, I've been given different answers as to why. Each of them total BS. The last call, the dispatcher started blaming me for not being where I said I was. Completely unacceptable and disrespectful of their customer base. This is no way to run a company. When the trains are again running normally, I suspect these buses will be empty because of mismanagement and rude, uninformed customer service. read more
