I absolutely love this park and used to visit frequently and I love visiting the snapping turtles that live there I cannot believe when I visited again the lake is pretty much gone it's just a small muddy pond it looks so sad. Really wondering what happened for it to drain like that and if there's any way to restore it I'm sure the community would help! This is gross. The last 3 times we've been here, there are super young parents overtly high and smelling of weed yet incapacitated while 'supervising' their child/children on the playground...the playground is also falling apart and unsafe in several areas. The last time we visited this past fall, my newly turned four-year-old even eventually asked me leave. It's so sad because it used to be a really nice playground and park overall. For real though, marijuana is legal but why is it that every time I go here I'm the only one who isn't on this stuff? read more

Did not like the guy smoking weed in his car as I pulled in. Other shady folks hanging around as well, racing in and out of the lot in their little cars with their crappy modified lawnmower engines. Love this place! Came here for the first time early on a Sunday morning and it was empty. There's a lot to explore and the trails are really fun to walk around on. If you keep walking past the pond you run into the tunnel with all the graffiti, makes for good photography. Also there's a lot of turtles in the pond which is cute :) The only thing that makes me sad is the amount of empty beer bottles laying around. It's such a shame to see all that garbage. I would love to participate in a clean up to make that place look nicer. Overall, would definitely recommend this place! Bring some lunch there's a lot of picnic tables! read more

A Suffolk County Park with about two miles (?) of network-decked wetlands and waterfowl inhabitants. There are a few scenic overlooks on "Honeysuckle Pond", giving you a place and ample time to consider the construction efforts needed to create this much level walkway. . . one time saw a giant goldfish here about the length and girth of my forearm, though he wouldn't get close enough for me to meet him. . . must be fresh water, though it feeds into the Connetquot River. There is a nice beach here, though that's where the boardwalk stops. On the far side are some trails and a cool tunnel (with uninspired graffiti) that goes under the LIRR and into State property, the Connetquot River Nature Preserve (entry with permit only). In the Northwestern part of the park, there is also a parking lot, restroom facilities building, playground and basketball courts. Lakeland County Park is usually a ghost town, especially in winter. *Accessibility Note: Stroller-friendly. Maybe 3/4 of the park were thought-out and designed for the disabled and their families, though the boards run perpendicular to your course rather than railway style. You could see a good amount from a wheelchair, but of course, there are many leafy trails off the beaten path. read more

This is still a beautiful park but the lake is virtually non existent anymore. Just a small dirty muddy pond. I know it's been dry but not THAT dry right? There are plenty of shady characters who may be going over to the train tunnel to shoot up or buy crank. Seriously, can't they get a little security in this park? read more

This park is very peaceful. It's not the picnic kind of park or where one goes to play softball. It's basically a raised boardwalk that brings you all around this secluded place and takes you through forests and some marshy areas. At one point, if you take the correct boardwalk, you'll end up at a nice body of water. You'll see ducks, fish, all kinds of bird, etc. This isn't the biggest park you'll ever go to, but it's nice and quiet and brings you right into nature read more

I visited this park in early May. While some parts of the park were nice, I did not feel entirely safe here. If one takes the trail from the parking lot, and turns left to loop around the park (where there is no wooden path, but just a dirt trail), paralleling Johnson Ave, you will be able to look into the backyards of the neighbors of the park. Keep walking around, and you will see the railroad tracks with some interesting graffiti. However, the graffiti is not what makes me feel unsafe here, but as I walked to the left away from the pond, I encountered a sleeping bag and some garbage, as if some of the homeless may reside here. Being a young woman, I trusted my instincts to turn around, toward the pond where I could hear people. The pond is lovely, where you can spot some waterfowl and there are a smattering of benches that give a nice view. There is another entrance to the preserve from beyond the basketball courts, as well. If you come to this park, be wary if you get off the wooden paths, maybe walk with a partner. It is a nice walk otherwise, and with all the marsh-like areas, I was pleasantly surprised to not encounter any mosquitoes, but that may be because I went earlier in the season, with temperatures barely hitting 70 F. read more

Great little park. Nice boardwalks as well as dirt paths to walk on. The boardwalks lead to water (lake) and other paths will take you through wooded areas. There are restrooms and a play area for kids. Sufficient parking. I really like this park and I would give it 5 stars except for the fact that dogs are allowed and not everyone keeps them on leashes. I am afraid of dogs and after I came around a corner and was face to face with a pit bull (the owner came along a few minutes later) I have never gone back. But if that is not your issue then I recommend this park. read more

Like Others have stated, I worried about safety here. If the local cops would like to bust teens for smoking the stinky, this is the place to hang out, as I passed 3 different groups of teens in the park that smelled highly of the stuff legal in some states. I am a runner and when out of town I always search for trail to run. As NY State parks charge an entrance fee, I searched out this park because it connects to the Connetquot River State Park via a tunnel that goes under the railroad tracks. The Lakeland Park part when new appears to have been a nice park, now it is littered with trash and teens hanging out at 5pm. The wood above ground walks were long and exciting to run. Once I left the park and crossed over into the Sate park, it felt much safer and there were miles of marked trails to run through. Beware of horse droppings.... and lots of deer. read more

First, i would like to say i absolutly LOVE this park. What bothers me is the cleansiness of the walking trail. There is so much garbage in the water itself and in the trees that are yet to be removed since hurricane sandy I noticed there aren't any garbage pails at any location within the board walk. Recently garbage bags have been placed at every corner of the park in which i think residents themselves have put up because of the amount of garbage all over the park. There is no longer any water to view just mud. Im hoping its due to the climate change but all summer i didn't see clean water like I've seen in the past years. NO LITTERING signs should be put closer to the water as well as better security. I love this place i just wish the people who are hanging out can pick up after themselves as they enjoy the sunset by the water. -Katherine Estrada read more

The elevated boardwalk had little to see but a small fishing pond and muddy wetlands full of debris. The filthy trails had no garbage cans or waste bins. I hope someone from the town will do something. I don't walk nature trails to see beer cans, beer bottles and plastic shopping bags littered about. Just disgusting. Views were ok. It's moderately quiet as you can hear road traffic off in the distance. The have a small basketball court and playground near the parking lot. It's not as nice as the photos / video make it out to be. read more

Beautiful Park with plenty of activities within the vicinity. They have a pretty big jungle gym for the kids as well has a full size basketball court. The Park also has a giant forest that you can go and follow the trail and jog, take a nice walk by yourself or with your dog, or you can just relax by the pond and feed the ducks, geese and fishes. I don't promote it but they do have a cool tunnel with plenty of great drawn graffiti that would hurt to check out. read more

Just loved growing up here. Everything about it perfect and from 2pm to 3am you can smell marijuana. Such a beautiful place. I appreciate that the pond was drained and cleaned so the geesey boys can stay fresh read more

Park is extremely dirty. Littered with blunt and wrap plastic and bottles/cans. Town needs to work on cleaning it up again. Kids go there to do drugs as well. Occasional heroin needle is found. People in the park are more of animals than my dog. Won't bring her back. read more

Nice place went alone in the day with my kids too many guys drinking hanging out ... felt a little uncomfortable . Pond is beautiful... needs to be better maintained. All in all we had a nice time . There's a pretty big playground there as well! read more

This is a beautiful safe park with trails and a play ground. Nice weekends are packed with families, runners, horseback riders and hikers. As with any other wilderness you might run across a few teens doing whatever teens do but they're into their own world. I live within walking distance and this park is a perfect place to go for a walk or a run even with your dog. You also have access to Connetquot State Park with hiking, horse and running trails. Even fly fishing. read more

The raised boardwalk only goes through part of the park. It goes through a boggy, swampy area with little wildlife until it opens at a large pond. There were fish, birds, geese and a very large turtle. Farther on, a dirt path leads with no signage into more wooded parkland. It was a pleasant walk in the shade. The main complaint is that there is no signage anywhere, so when the boardwalk diverges in different spots, it is impossible to know where the trails lead. Use your own good sense of direction if you have one! read more
