Lakeshore is a wonderful public park situated along the Tennessee River and offering some spectacular views of the Smoky Mountains. I finally got a chance to come here with my neighbor and her toddler on a weekday and I was surprised how many kids were at the playground. However, we never felt crowded here and there are several playgrounds in the park, with one being in a slightly wooded section. Besides children's playgrounds, the park offers extensive greenways, sports facilities, and even, event spaces. Sports facilities include: baseball/softball fields, soccer field and an outdoor fitness center. On my next visit, I'm going to explore even more of the greenways and try to find the steel sculpture in the park called the "Quantum Embrace." Know before you go: 1) Lakeshore is open daily: 6 am - 10 pm 2) Plenty of parking spaces 3) There are public restrooms onsite 4) Events at the park hosted by the Roots & Revelry Group. Gorgeous park! They have all kinds of sports courts including pickleball. Perfect place to take a walk, work out, or just chill by the lake.

This is a vast park with so many different areas to explore and enjoy at your own pace. Picnic benches are scattered throughout , along with walking trails ‍ and scenic overlooks that make it easy to linger and take in the views. It's very animal friendly , with certain areas designated as off leash, which is a nice bonus for pet owners. The pets we observed were on leash and paired with seemingly responsible owners, which kept the atmosphere relaxed and enjoyable . Parking was ample in most sections of the park , making access fairly easy. During our visit, the conservancy was under renovation , so a few areas were blocked off for both walking and driving. Even with those limitations, there was still plenty to see and do . It's a great spot for a peaceful outdoor break and worth revisiting once renovations are complete. read more

Charming little park in the Knoxville area. We were looking for a place for the kids to burn off some energy during a cross-country road trip, and this place proved to be an ideal choice. The playground area is well maintained, is pretty large, and has some unique play fixtures. There is also a walking trail, beautiful nature elements to take in, and free, easy-to-access restrooms. (Always important.) It looks like the park also has some baseball/softball fields and likely used for leagues and that sort of thing. Perfect little spot for families who are local to the area or simply passing through during a visit. read more

Worst Christmas lights ever, drove 12 hours to see the "amazing lights". I've never been so disappointed in my entire life. The lights were all the same color. Only like 10 trees and half the lights didn't work. How can you have 72 sponsors and still have awful lights. The bathrooms looked like 1970s veitnam so I went behind a tree. I wiped with what I found out was poison I've, writing this review from the ER. Wish I could leave 0 stars. I looked up a fun playground to take our son to because yes children's museums are nice but I swear the germs just ugh lol. I mean your kid can also catch germs from a playground but it just seems to always happen after a children's museum. Anyway this place was awesome. It was a cold Friday morning, but my friend and I enjoyed the walk around Lakeshore Park. It was beautiful...there's a picturesque mountain view in the distance. I can't wait to enjoy the park on a warm, sunny day. There's plenty of open grass for sports and other activities. When the lake is higher, the lake is more accessible for kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating. There's even an area for fishing. read more

This is a beautiful park in Knoxville. I love that most of the walkway is stroller compatible. But part of the walkway is currently under construction and is on the grass as a mulch walkway. But, the overall functions of this park is excellent!!! The kid section has a rubber bouncy floor for safety. Went to a birthday party at this park and it is endless and really well-kept. There are ball fields with frequent games, trails galore, pavilions, batting cages, and a few playgrounds. The park is large, sprawling, and the signage is really subpar, so it can be hard to find specific areas and on busy days, challenging to find parking. The playground we were at near the baseball fields is really fun with unique equipment and the springy ground covering. I may make the trek here to walk it with my friends while our kids play because it is a great surface for my creaky old lady joints. ;-) Interesting fact, this park used to be a psychiatric compound with the still-standing main building as a hub. read more

This is such a beautiful park with lake and mountain views. It's very peaceful and there are several spots to sit down and read, picnic, or just relax. There are a few steep hills to get your heart rate up. I've gone during the week and weekends and it's been busy but never too crowded. There is some construction going on so certain paths/trails are blocked off but they're pretty unobtrusive and don't distract from the park's beauty. Walking around the perimeter of the paths can be done in under an hour, strolling at a leisurely pace. As spacious as it is, it would be hard to get lost here so don't worry about that if that's a fear. There's also plenty of parking. Definitely worth the trip. read more

Overlooking the Tennessee River, Lakeshore Park boasts a really nice greenway and some stunning views! The greenway can be used by runners and walkers, but bicycles are forbidden. The park offers lots of diversions, including a number of ball fields, two playgrounds, and (when it's in season) a Farmer's Market The terrain around the playgrounds is flat and fairly smooth, so it's good for small children on tricycles or Big Wheels Lakeshore Park is located at the corner of Lyon's View Pike and Northshore Drive; it's approximately 5 minutes west of UT. I want to start by saying it's not a good idea to go to this playground if it is hot outside because the structures get really hot to the touch, it is not safe. The floor of the playground is squishy so if your little falls it will absorb some of the impact. This playground seems best for younger children. I would say maybe 6 or younger just because everything is pretty short. They have swings, a cable web to climb, a little dome that they can climb over or under, small slides, little play sets, spinning seats and rocking seats. There are lots of seats and tables to sit at for adults and snacking or lunch time. It was very clean and taken care of. The only negative was that the play area doesn't have shade so with the sun hitting the play sets, you can't even use them because they are very hot to the touch. We went at 10:30am and it was about 80° out. They could improve this park by adding canopy shades to cover the play sets. read more

Giving recommendation a maybe, because it would depend on the day you are wanting to go. The park is very nice and well kept. There are playgrounds, trails, fields, pavilions, and a ball park. The failure of this park is the parking situation. You can go on any given Saturday and there are events, baseball games, soccer, birthdays, etc.. with absolutely NO parking. It's really frustrating when you've paid for your kid to be in a baseball league and have to circle around 15-20 minutes every weekend to find an open parking spot. Is it nice? Absolutely. Is it worth the hassle? Not on the weekends. read more

So many options for things to do here, we were blown away. There are walking trails, a disc golf course, a playground for kiddos, tons of parking available, picnic tables, ball fields, covered pavilions, and lakefront views. Park was very clean minus the trash can area in the kids playground which looked like it hadn't been emptied in a while. Otherwise, beautiful and enjoyable. This park sure has transformed over the years! It's so beautiful and has expanded so much. They recently added the HGTV Overlook and the view is breathtaking! There are two playgrounds (currently closed), baseball fields, batting cages, an outdoor church, several small pavilions and many different trails. Everyone has been so social and friendly while on the trail. You can smell the honeysuckle with each step as you walk by the river! read more

Oh my gosh you guys. This is my favorite place to burn calories. It's so beautiful, and green, and it has rolling hills. Feel the burn! The birds chirp, the joggers are friendly. You are surrounded by kiddos playing on the monkey bars, or practicing soccer, or running around with the puppy and it has expansive all-around vistas of the lake. Just. Plain. Gorgeous. And also creepy. Super creepy. I never roll my eyes at hype about the dangers of lakeshore. Sure, I have always been okay but still. After multiple carjackings and a woman stabbed to death last year the increased police presence still doesn't make me feel 100% safe every single time I come here. For that I have to remove a star. Also, I'm sick of seeing the fence torn down near the winding river. Not only is this unsightly it is very dangerous. Someone's pup or small child could run right through and get hurt near the rough terrain or fall into the water. I bet a creeper could also hang out around the jagged fence too. This unsightly scene went unrepariedfor months. Shame. Okay, okay. I'm off my soapbox now. I wonder..... Does the danger here have to do with the creepy history? You realize this place used to be an insane asylum? Yup, the beautiful buildings on the hill are historical puzzle pieces of a bitter mental history past. The only happy thing I note is that Johnny Cash performed for the mental health patients here shortly before it was shut down. I'm happy to see it transformed into a pretty space for the community. And so, yeah, now I workout here. With my guard up. Big time. read more

Beautiful, large public park in Knoxville. On the shore of the Tennessee River, it has wonderful views of the Tennessee Valley. Long walking loop and quite a lot of green space. The park always seems to have people enjoying the beautiful scenery, walking their pooches or just having a picnic. We particularly love the chapel and boardwalk platform which are right at the waterfront. read more

The area definitely has nice scenery and has a much-needed update from years past. They have added another playground for kids to enjoy themselves while moms and dads walk the dogs and create some stress free moments. Currently as of February 2018 there's a lot of mud and dirt due to the reconstruction so definitely be one of that in many of the pathways have cracked foundation where you can easily trip and hurt yourself if not careful. They're just enough Flats, Hills, up and down to give you the perfect amount of workout for all ages and shapes. There are also a couple of baseball fields that are usually open every time that I have gone where you can catch up on some practice without too much crowd. Very excited to see the expansion that has yet to come in the coming months. This is a great place for a girl meet up, company outing, personal exercise and workout or just a nice walk to get away. Bring the dog, kids or family and catch a sunset on one of the many benches they have throughout the trail. I won't call it FIFA but they also have soccer fields to get your kick on! read more

My husband and I took our 9 month old daughter to your Park for the first time and she absolutely loves the turtle swing however my only complaint is that you should invest in some baby swings but was saying that we still really loved your Park and came back on Monday. If you had asked me to come here 4 years ago, I would have kindly declined. Fast forward to now, I would say yes all the way. Very welcoming, dog and kid friendly, and well maintained. A new playground with the option of the old one by the field is nice. New walking paths and docked areas. New pavilion for event bookings. Multiple parking areas to easily access different parts of the park. I am a fan--plus the farmers market is there during the spring time on fridays. read more

Lakeshore Park is pretty much my favorite thing about Knoxville. I found out about it when I came here back in 2004 for grad school at UT. You are immediately greeted with a stunning view of the Smokies when you start out at the beginning of the 2.1 mile greenway/track. It's a wonderful place to run, but beware of several steep hills! The track surrounds several baseball diamonds and, believe it or not, the Lakeshore Mental Health Institute. But, don't let that freak you out- I've never encountered any violent schizophrenics! I consider this place very safe and it's usually quite busy with families or people walking their dogs. And, as a side note, be prepared for a slightly malodorous stretch of track when walking by a sewage treatment facility- it lasts only a few minutes, I swear! read more

This is definitely one of my favorite parks in Knoxville! They have updated and redone most of it recently and it looks amazing! I love going running with my dog there. The paths are clean and the scenery is perfect! They have great playground equipment for kids, several large soccer fields, and even docks that go out into the water. I always feel safe running there, which is refreshing. read more

Nice colorful new looking playground and convenient location. However it's too hilly for me for my regular runs! It's really not a place for beginners, don't let the paving fool you. Some of the grades are just too steep! They could be dangerous if you take a wrong step. I'll come back for a difficult day but not a regular run day. The track is about 2 miles around as reported by an earlier review. I went on a Sunday morning, lots of walkers and joggers out. I never felt unsafe. read more

This is a great pet-friendly park to get a quick walk in or relax a little in the sun. The loop is a nice walk with some really pretty views, but it's not the easiest to figure out how to get on the paved path. I went there this past weekend and ended up by the old institution for a short while until I found the actual path. Luckily the weather was great. read more

Love this park I've been going here for 15 years and it's still a beautiful place to run and take my dog for a walk. The only problem is that there are very few trash cans so of you take your dog you have to carry then"leavings" for a long time. Lakeshore Park, i West Knoxville is convienant to almost everything. Right near Papermill/Bearden areas. They have a nice running,walking greenway thats a little over 2 miles and loops around the hills and baseball fields. Great place to take the family or go for a walk with friends or run. This is an awesome park. If you're looking for a place for the kids to play while you go for a run, this is the place to go. I was able to go for a run while the kiddos played at the playground nearby with family. The playground is very modern and the kids had a blast. The trail is about 2.1 miles around and you are able to take in some great scenery. As far as security goes I didn't feel in danger, but I do take my headphones off or turn music down in areas I'm new to. I hope to visit this park again before I leave the area.
