It is interesting to note the Civil war battles. They have renivated the area and there are interesting tidbits. Easy walk.

This is a beautiful park they offer something for those wanting to walk jog and mountain bike. Great overlook of the quarry. You can also visit the fort. Very well-kept. Ample parking. Overall really enjoyed this park so did the dog.

Aha.. so this is where all the cool kids go. Meet market, say whaa?! As a recreational spot this is incredible. Gorgeous views, pretty colors. And even though summer can draw busy crowds here actually everyone is friendly and chill. It's like a big party. Just don't even think about being stupid because the cops patrol occasionally. On quiet days the serenity here is immense. We are so lucky to have this quarry as our oasis in the city. That being said. Now, I have to say that as a Civil War site this was just kind of meh. Yeah, there's some good historical markers and a physical footprint of the famous battle fought here. But I found it a bit lacking as a historical spot much. You can park your car and walk around the area..maybe take a look at a cannon..maybe envision the battle, etc. But beyond that it's a snoozefest...you're better off hopping back in the car and driving to the other side for a swim. Yep, I think the fort has been re-purposed rather well I daresay.

Saturday July 12, 2014...I took a One Day road trip from Nashville with my hubby Tony and daughter Noel and we opted to head towards KNOXVILLE..our goal is too see as much of the city as possible on our ONE DAY mini vacation ...on a budget...My goal was a family of 3 to have fun on $150 or less...so the drive from Nashville took us 3 hrs one way.. I found the directions on my Google Maps App on my android and she (Gertrude ..my cellie) led us to the location. It was so easy to find. A great location with ample parking. There is restrooms available and some lovely picnic areas with shelters and grills. I found it quite inviting and would definitely have a cook out or picnic here in the future..If you live in Knoxville, this is a great historical park and location. FREE admission and very nice to use. We parked and we took the trail up the small knoll to the dirt wall fortification for the original fort. Please if you are there, don't climb on earthworks..they need to be protected and preserved. We walked around the grounds of the park checking out the signs and the cannons. It is a very nice learning experience and shows off the information about the Civil War fighting that took place here. If you are a Civil War buff then this is where you need to go and check it out. I am so glad we went, but don't forget your buggie spray with DEET. Add this to your MUST SEE and DO if you are in the Knoxville area. I highly recommend it to everyone, young and old a like...

I have been coming to Fort Dickerson Park for years and it seems that every year more and more people find out about its awesomeness. It's kind of tricky to find and the parking lot is pretty small. Once you make the short hike down, the place opens up and the place is simply stunning. The water is this magical blue color. It's a great place to bring your family, especially because it's free, but know that there's not really a great spot to set up 'camp'. People are very respectful of your space and belongings. The place is huge and it's easy to get away from crowds if you go further from the shore. Bring a floaty, some snack, and your drink of choice and find your happy place. The water is so much cleaner than the other quarry in town. There are tons of hiking trails that (full disclosure) I've never used. I've heard they are pretty great and a really good spot to come hiking with your furry friend, Fido.

This is another great historic area I have been sleeping on for way too many years and I live within a mile of it. After they have done some renovations it looks very grand in Mighty and will give you a small little walkway area and overlooking a quarry that is little known to the public also. If you keep going up to the top past the first parking lot on the left you will enter a picnic area as well as a big open area in addition to a little walkway in the woods that has many plaques for education and historical purposes. Definitely worth the read as this is part of the cities history. The family and I will definitely be hitting up the quarry that you see in the Overlook. We haven't figured out how to get there yet as it is almost impossible but definitely a must. Here we go!

My coworker told me about this place and he highly recommended it. We came here on Saturday afternoon and there was not a lot of people. The parking space is small but there were a lot of parking spaces left. We got on one of the hiking trails and hiked all the way down to the quarry. We saw several people came here to ride their mountain bikes. The hiking trail we pick is not too difficult. It had some up and down but it was manageable in general. The start point is right next to the lookout. You can easily find it. The quarry is beautiful and it is a good place to swim during summer! We enjoyed our visit and will recommend anyone to visit.

This is becoming one of my favorite places in Knoxville. You can park at the main entrance & hike down to the water or drive down closer to the water. To get there drive towards Kerns bakery & turn left on the street across from the bakery, go over the tracks & follow the gravel road to the parking lot. I'm not the best with directions so don't go by mine. The gates close at 8pm.

I love this spot. It is so close to downtown, a 6 min drive from my house and solid gem of the city. You park in a gravel lot and it is a short walk down to enter the water. The path is gravel so be sure to wear flip flops or water shoes. I also suggest bringing a floatie, sun block, a towel and beverages. The water is clean and safe if you know how to swim. There are no life guards so please so not enter if you do not know how to swim. Moving to Knoxville from Hawaii, this is a sweet compromise. Ill take this for my chance to soak up the summer sun and enjoy the water.

Lots of Civil War history. Very kept up place with an amazing view of Knoxville! I enjoyed my time just taking it all in.

Nice park, but we went late so only got to walk around a little before it started to rain and started to get dark. It seems really nice and they have a lot of cool things to look at. We plan on coming again soon to check out more

Crazy beautiful but please don't jump off the cliffs...even if u can swim. The quarry is over 200ft deep!

Great park with everything you could want, beautiful hiking trails, history information, civil wars cites, a cannon(!) pavilions with bbq's and a picture perfect quarry with out of this world, teal blue water! Something for everyone! Love to spend my weekend there!

Parked in a little dirt lot off of Augusta Avenue and then walked about 15 minutes to get to the bottom of the quarry.

The Sinks is a lovely waterfall along the river. There is a small parking lot with about a dozen spaces where we found parking. An observation area is a short walk from parking. A sign describes the area and that the falls were manmade. During the late 1800's the river was used to transport logs/timber to the nearby town of Elkmont. After a storm, flood waters caused a jam in the river. Dynamite was used to restore water flow. The blast resulted in a twist in the river and creation of the waterfall. A set of stone steps leads up a hill, offering lovey views of the falls. There are dozens of waterfalls in the Park. Sinks is one of the few that is drivable, which is great for people that cannot hike. I picked up a Waterfalls map at the visitor center that I found interesting and informative. Parking passes are required to park in the lot. There are no amenities at the falls. Plan 15-30 minutes for a stop and photos.

Many mature trees and the surrounding pond cool down the playground area. There is ample parking and a large restroom facility which are both convenient. Pavilion area that you can rent and a few docks jutting out into the water are nice touches, as is the extensive walking trail that goes around the park and surrounding neighborhoods. As for the play area, it is well-maintained and there is a large sandbox that is clearly very popular (hence, why I didn't take a photo with so many littles enjoying it). The playset has lots of stationary toys on it as well as an abundance of slides. The swing area is separated from the playground and has some unique swing options. Note that the sandbox and playground is directly next to the pond, so if you get high anxiety with young kiddos around bodies of water or have runners, you may want to forgo this park (or at least ensure you have an extra set of eyes/hands with you).
