This is like walking in a time capsule! It doesn't seem like anything has been upgraded here in decades, so it's entertaining to walk around and check out the old rides, signage and arcade games that you haven't seen since the 80s. That being said, quite a few of the rides and games were clearly broken down and hadn't been touched in years. It's kind of sad that no one is putting any love into this place, and hasn't in a long time. But, it's clearly very popular! We paid $5 to walk around, which is absolutely worth it for the nostalgia. You have the option to pay for unlimited rides or you can buy individual tickets for the rides you want. Since most of the rides would have made me vomit at this age, I was happy to pay $2.50 for a train ride around the lake. Jerry, the guy running the train, was fantastic! He really seems to love his job and his enthusiasm is contagious. I did think it was odd that on the list of rules as you line up to pay, it says no photos are allowed. BIZARRE. I guess they don't want any photos getting out of a ride that's about to break down? Clearly people were ignoring it, as who doesn't want photos of your kids having a blast on the rides! Looking for a time capsule then loon no further as you have found it right here at Lakeside! This park really is awesome as you can tell it's been kinda just left to the elements of time as everything here just felt like the 1960's which was totally cool with me because its unique to any other park I've been to in the country and that alone created this incredible vibe! It seems like they are only open at night which is awesome because I love going to the park at night as it creates a whole new atmosphere that the day can't match from the sights and sounds you can't really go wrong with a night at the park! Lots of this park is very run down like it really needs some help which made me kinda sad but happy to see it's still in operation if I had the money I'd totally fix it up and keep it nostalgic to its roots like get the roller coaster going and what not! Wild Chipmunk alone was worth the trip here as you don't see many coasters like that being operational anywhere a true gem in the coaster world! Their train ride was awesome too takes you to the edge of the property around the lake making for a long fun ride that we totally loved! They offer all day wristbands or tickets since we only rode a few things we went with the tickets making for a bit of a saver for us money wise so just plan accordingly if you choose this path! Is it dated? Yes. Are some of the rides and games out of order? Yep. Does it need a good scrubbing? It does. Are the workers friendly? Not especially. If you can get over its shortcomings, Lakeside is a pretty fun place to go, and at 116 years old, it's pretty OG Denver. My husband and I took our son this afternoon (they open at 2 pm on weekends) and had a sweltering good time. They gave a new (to us anyway) entrance process. Parking is free now, and after you park you empty your pockets and do a bag search, which was no big deal and I'm honestly surprised it took as long as it did for this to happen. After security the experience kind of tanks. They had 1 person at the entrance doing admissions and NO SIGNS. Seriously, Lakeside, if you read reviews, PLEASE post a few signs at the entrance with the fees so people can decide what they want as hey wait and do your poor employee doesn't have to go over it while everyone waits. My family waited 40 minutes to get in today, and the fact is that that was 40 minutes of lost opportunities for us to have fun and to spend money at the park, and that is just speaking of my group. read more

We stopped in to check out the midget cars I guess is what they're called I don't know, but they had some very cool ones. It was a great day to be out in the morning checking this event out. It was a great time. Oh my gosh, this place is a total dump. Majority of the rides aren't running and the ones that are, don't appear to be safe at all. If I chose a ride, it would either be the train or the carousel and that would pretty much be it. I felt sorry for families that were going in with little kids thinking it was gonna be a fun place. Armbands were $25 a person. I bought tickets at the gate and after I paid for them she said, "I'm sorry we don't have tickets anymore I'll have to refund you." The park was still open, but we didn't have tickets to go on the rides. Trash. metal pieces, and broken down machinery was all over the park. My first time at Lakeside Amusement Park and I loved it! If you're a fan of vintage/retro styled spots with rich history... this is your spot. This park opened in 1908 and is the oldest running amusement park in Colorado! Don't expect all of the rides to be in operation at all times and also don't expect lines to move super quickly like they might at an amusement park filled with more technology. The rides and park itself have a charm about them, but it's for those looking to embrace the step back in time! I am into atmospheres like this, so I genuinely enjoyed myself! I would recommend buying the $5 entry like we did and then adding on ride tickets as you go! Not all of the rides will be open, so it's better to start at the cheapest entry rate and then increase your tickets as you decide what to ride or find out what's open at the time! They take card at the entry, but the rest of the park is cash only! So, definitely prepare if you want to avoid ATM fees and bring cash with you! The food and drink is also super affordable. I didn't find anything that was over $5 for a single item! You can really enjoy yourself here for a cheap yet fulfilling/fun date or friend meet up! One of my favorite aspects about the park was the old lights once the sun set. It reminded me a bit of old Vegas with the style of the signs! Andddd, speaking of the sunset... you get a gorgeous view over the lake! I really had a great time! Lakeside is a great nostalgic destination for my family. The only problem I have with it is that they barely have any rides open. Which sucks because I go once a year. Lakeside - I've heard people either love it or hate it. I am on the side that is completely in love with this vintage amusement park! Sure some of the rides are no longer operating and most of the buildings haven't been updated since the 1960s, but that is the charm! Don't come here expecting Disney World, Universal Studios, or Six Flags. This is a spot super unique in Colorado. This amazing park has been operating since 1908 and begun as a trolley park, which is a precursor to a modern amusement park. Trolly parks originally consisted of picnic groves and pavilions, and often held events such as dances, concerts and fireworks. Rides were eventually added to the parks so they evolved into amusement parks. (Thanks for the info Wikipedia!) The charm of Lakeside is that many of the original rides are still operating. The wooden Cyclone coaster opened in 1940 and offers a super fun thrill for adults and kids. The Merry go round is from 1908 and I'm sure it's been updated since then, but it has a super old school vintage feel. There are retro rocket ship rides and tilt-o-whirls. Note that food and drink here are very cheap if you're hungry. Most menu items are $5 or below. The cheese fries are the best! I would recommend planning your visit to come just before dusk and staying into the night. The views of the sunset from the park is absolutely wonderful! read more

I came here with aunt Petunia and we had a blast! Aunt petunia was getting excited to celebrate her 88th birthday and tried to escape her dementia facility for the 100th time so I decided to pick her up and bring her here as a little pre-celebration. We got on the rollercoaster and I think the little kid that went before me peed his pants because my seat all wet. They strapped me into the rollercoaster really tight so it got all over me but I'm glad they take safety seriously. Old-school charm, nostalgia, retro vibes galore. HISTORY: Lakeside is the oldest amusement park still running in CO and one of the oldest in the US. It was opened as White City in 1908, one of many similar parks with the same name and architectural style. Lakeside is the only remaining White City amusement park today. It used to have a swimming pool, a theater, a dance hall, full bars, and a speedway. Lakeside is also the name of the tiny town where the park stands. When the park was being planned in the early 1900s, Denver's strict liquor laws would have prevented the park from serving alcohol (they no longer serve it) so a new municipality was created. RETRO VIBES: This place is falling apart in some spots. I honestly thought it was abandoned for months because I only drove by when they were closed. I don't think it should be renovated much because its state is part of what gives it its retro charm (you can even see remnants of old rides). However, they could definitely fix a few things (e.g. broken Skeeball machines). I'm going to assume/hope that they follow the recommended safety precautions and properly maintain their rides. PRICE: Great. $4 to get in (includes a single ticket rebate) and pay-per-ride (50 cents per ticket and each ride is 1-6 tickets). Great system in case you just want to check it out and only go on a ride or two. They also have unlimited ride tickets (options listed on their website) if you plan to ride a lot. Parking is free. RIDES: A good amount to choose from including a whole section for little kids. I refused to go on the Cyclone because I'm not a fan of wooden coasters but I did go on the Wild Chipmunk which was really fun (fast hairpin turns). They had a decent selection of enjoyable but fairly low-key rides. The carousel was really lovely (and is the 1908 original). FOOD: I saw a few kiosks but nothing that really spoke to me. I grew up in Edgewater and although we usually went to Elitch's because it was closer. We did go to Lakeside at least once a summer. I have gone back several times over the last 30 years. Unfortunately, last Saturday will be the last time I go. The park has fallen into such utter disrepair that it is no longer fun. The lights on most of the rides were only partially working. Parts of the park were dark and kind of rapey. The woman who owns Lakeside and is the city's Mayor doesn't seem to care. I watched a large gang of kids between 11 and 17 stalk 4 other guests, surround them, and threaten them. What are that many unsupervised, children doing in the park? I am sad that this once great amusement park now just seems to be little more than a dangerous broken-down carnival. P.S. about half of the rides are closed. read more

Lakeside is a very polarizing venue. Many people complain about the lack of updated rides and games while some find it to be their best attribute. I think as long as one visits Lakeside while understanding what to expect, it's a great place to spend maybe half a day or so! You can either pay $5 to enter and buy tickets at $0.50 a pop or $30 for an unlimited wristband (weekend prices). My girlfriend and I weren't sure if we would like the place or not, so opted for the $5 entry option. We had a great time and although most of the rides are old and can give off a feeling of being unsafe, we felt safe and welcome there. The arcade/games area has a lot of games that weren't working but also a good amount that were working as well. I personally found the whole park to have a nostalgic feel to it but especially the games area as there were many games that I used to play as a kid (I'm in my thirties at the time of writing this). Before dark, it feels like you've snuck into an old decrepit amusement park and find that some of the rides actually work. As the old school lighting comes on, it becomes this wonderful throwback to summer nights of our parents and grandparents. It is a true treasure and connection to the past. And I love the independent spirit of the owners holding on. The rides are fun. The old wooden roller coaster is the crown jewell. On the Wild Chipmunk you'll think "I've made a terrible mistake and I'm going to die for it." "Is that a crack in the track?" But you'll emerge alive and laughing with your companions. I'm bringing my kids which makes four generations who've come, conquered the rides, and licked a soft serve ice cream - an annual event that anchors our family. read more

Today was the "Gothic Takeover" Unfortunately Lakeside only had 8 rides open. The gate people did not inform us of that and sold us $30 unlimited ride passes. The ride operators acted like guests of the park were "putting them out" to do their job. I worked at Lakeside for a few summers in the late 90's...we had the best crews. Everyone was happy to be there running rides and interacting with guests...what happened to work ethic? Three for the value. Haven't gone to Elitch's yet, but it's just a different price point in my mind. Saw this for years in visits to Denver. Drove by weekly. See the Cyclone from the Berkley Dog Park, it was time to check it out. Obviously not in it's hey day but it was fun. It's a thrill for sure, will the ride break down? When was this last inspected? What attractions are open on this visit compared to your last? Is the fifteen year old working your ride going to quit or just go on break with no notice? EXCITEMENT and family fun!!! Confessions were reasonable. Somewhat weird system but it works. Likewise for rides, pay to park and you get discount coupons. If you only plan to ride one or two you could pay in tickets. The wristband is the best value though. Even if you ride a single attraction twice it makes sense. The three of us hit everything, but kiddy land, once. Worth the $13 on a Friday evening. Saturday when it's $23 I would avoid. Certainly a spur or the moment fun event. Grab some friends and a hot dog, best $20 you could spend on a whim. I still take my nieces to Lakeside. It is cheaper than Elitches and the rides are closer to each other. The employees running the rides were friendly. My nieces enjoyed themselves. The main roller coaster was not working. The last time I was at Lakeside was 2019 and it seemed to be more dirty and unsafe than yesterday. I would love Lakeside to clean up their grounds and make it so it doesn't look so run down. They have 3 new rides that are supposed to open next year. If you purchase tickets, they are $0.50 each. Kiddie Land was 1-2 tickets for each ride. The bigger rides were 2-5 tickets each. We were there for about 4 hrs. I bought the $30 unlimited pass each for my nieces. I think I would have saved some money just by buying the tickets, but there was only 2 places to get tickets, so it was a bit inconvenient. If they are open next year, we will be back. read more

Doesn't look like much at first glance, but there is so much history here! I happened to go during a Facebook goth meetup and it was such an amazing respectful crowd! Definitely a must see if you love carnivals and lights. Make sure to explore around the area before actually going inside - lots of broken down rides and tattered buildings. The wooden roller coaster, the Cyclone, is on the list of ACE as a landmark roller coaster. I was looking forward to visiting Lakeside Amusement Park in Denver and so was extremely disappointed to see that this 'amusement park' is actually a dilapidated, empty, and seemingly unsafe park. This is where fun goes to die. Admission is $3 per person. My husband, brother-in-law, and I arrived over one hour after the park had opened on a Sunday and over half of the rides were still closed. We wandered around the empty park curious as to why nothing was in operation. An employee told us that the park has difficulty retaining employees and would be in full swing maybe 2 hours after opening. Most rides were obviously outdated and looked like they may break down any second. "You couldn't pay me to go one these rides", said my brother-in-law. Everyone gives Lakeside a hard time for appearing "outdated" but in my opinion this blast from the past amusement park is like a retro time capsule, and is exactly what I love about it so much!!! The US West sign, the 70's color scheme. Oh my goodness it's beautiful and has a certain charm about it. My family lived for 4 generations just down the hill and for years we would look up and see the fireworks light up the summer July sky, I'd drive past the park and imagine myself on the cyclone almost daily. It's affordable, well loved, and family owned. It's a true local gem that families of Colorado have been enjoying for years and years. You must go into this place knowing 'you get what you pay'. As long as you have that expectation set, you are good to go! The rides will cost you a certain number of tickets per ride. Tickets are $0.50 each. Some rides are only 1 ticket and I saw all the way up to 6 tickets. Each ride is unique in its own way. You feel as if you're time traveling as soon as you step into this place. Its been around since 1908! The rides are shaky, rickety, and overall a great time. Just go into it knowing that everything is incredibly old and you will be just fine. The rockets are my favorite ride. They don't look fast but they pick up speed once you get into them! Older things, especially amusement parks, are some of my favorite places to exist. I think they are so beautiful in their own way and have so much rich history to them. Came with another friend of mine that also has an interest in older attractions. Lines were not too long, about 1/2 the rides were closed but it makes sense due to the age of the attraction as well as the effects of covid. We had a blast. The train ride around the lake was amazing. We enjoyed the scrambler and the whip as well. Loved the small arcades and cheap games. Took some great Polaroids as well. Didn't get to ride the wild chipmunk because of the line but I can't wait to next season. The food was actually good in terms of amusement park food. I loved the giant pickle. Would have loved a beer or a shot but it's okay, I understand it's mostly a place for children so that wouldn't add up!!! I hope this place can come back and stay open, it deserves to!
