I had such a relaxing afternoon at Evergreen Lake. It's only about 30 minutes from downtown Denver, making it an easy getaway without spending hours in the car. The main parking lot was full when we arrived, but the overflow parking was surprisingly easy. There was someone at the entrance directing cars, handing out the shuttle address, and answering questions. The free shuttle arrived within minutes, had air conditioning, and dropped us off right at the lake. The atmosphere is what makes this place special. It's clean, family-friendly, and surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery. You can bring your own kayak, paddleboard, canoe, or other non-motorized watercraft, or rent one there. Life jackets are required and rentals have time limits, but everything was well organized. The water was a little browner than I expected, with some natural tree limbs and debris floating around, and swimming isn't allowed. That said, it didn't take away from the experience. Most people were fishing, paddling around with friends, or simply floating and soaking in the views. If you're looking for a peaceful way to spend an afternoon outdoors, this is a great spot. Please stay away from paddle boarding and recreating on this lake. The lake is extremely dirty and the staff was very rude. They made you pay $45 to wash off your board that was mandatory.They told us that we had to pay cash only, even though they said credit card was an option. A pontoon boat circled around polluting the water and yelling at everyone regarding their life jackets.There is no relaxing, life jackets are mandatory at all times and being mandated by teen staff. Don't plan on relaxing and or enjoying time at this lake. read more

We went here to rent a kayak for the lake. The parking lot is big and we had no trouble finding parking. The kayak rentals were easy, but a bit expensive. It was a beautiful lake and area. There was a wedding going on at the lake house that we could see from the lake. We loved being able to walk from the lake to the town. Overall recommend besides the price, especially because the lake is kind of small. And we couldn't check out the lake house because of the wedding, so there's only outhouses for the bathroom. read more

UPDATE! My love of Evergreen Lake House grows with every season! Though, I must admit, that winter has to be my favorite! Every year (for the past four) I organize an annual ice skating trip amongst my friends to come and enjoy all it has to offer. There's a large general skating rink and many smaller ones for folks to play a little hockey or even broom ball. They have a mini zamboni to resurface the ice which makes it a much better surface than you would expect for a mountain lake. At only $7 for admission and $7 for skate rental it's def worth it! Parking is free, but the main lot is small. So get there early or be prepared to walk a bit to get to the Lake House. Evergreen Lake House offers stand up paddle boarding in the summer, as well as boat rentals. While I have yet to indulge in those activities, I have come and meandered around the shores of the lake with friends and family during all seasons. Stay you Evergreen Lake House! Because you're perfect just the way you are! **Pro Tip: Make sure you call the ice skate hotline before you make the drive! With Colorado's crazy weather this is a must. This was my 1st outdoor ice skating experience on an actual lake and therefore I don't have any other experience to compare to this. Plus, there was free hot chocolate and prices for shoe rentals were really cheap. Also they let you use both the figure skates or the hockey skates. I tried both and found the hockey skates easier to use because there was less pressure on my foot from the blade. I felt more wobbly on the figure skates. Props to figure skaters and hockey players alike. They have several different pond areas for hockey games as well as just general ice skating. They have a fire pit going on outside which adds for a nice warm ambience. read more

We LOVED this lake for ice skating. They do not shovel the whole lake for skating, but they shovel a really nice portion of it. It was also a great value at $7 per person and an easy and large enough parking lot. They have a small snack bar, basic necessities for purchase (sunscreen, pond pucks, etc.), and skate rentals.. there were at least 6 rinks for people to play hockey as well. read more

Went out on the Paddle Boards with my girlfriend for the first time. The experience was amazing. I'm a little frustrated at the moment because of the staff. I felt they could have been more friendly during check out and check in. One or two of the workers were friendly and helped to make my experience better. About 2/3 of the staff unfortunately were not. When I came in after an hour of being out on the water. Three of the female workers were laying out on the paddle boards getting a tan. I thought... this must be the best job on earth. Then one of them rudely said that I had to bring my board in to the other side. It was as if they were bothered that they had to get up from their tanning. Out of 6 workers on duty... not one suggested where to put my life vest when I was done. Not one worker asked me how my experience was. Yes they are all young... but they should be trained better. It was 20 dollars each for my girlfriend and I. 40 total and worth it. Just don't have high expectations on the workers being friendly. I really do hope this message reaches management and makes a difference for future experiences. The thing that really ticks me off... was that another family came in at the same time and had a similar lack of professionalism. read more

Evergreen Lake House was a truly magical venue for our wedding - we can't recommend it highly enough! We held the ceremony and reception here for our wedding of ~110 guests, and it was absolutely perfect. Ours was a winter wedding so we held the ceremony indoors. The venue itself is so beautiful that you hardly need to bring in any decorations; we had relatively simple decor and all of our guests kept commenting on how beautiful everything looked. With mountains as a backdrop and ice skating on the frozen lake outside, it was a stunning venue. Krista and her team were super helpful leading up to, during, and after the event. And we saved tons of money by being able to provide our own alcohol. read more

How do you rate a place that has so many different functions. It is a venue for weddings, a place to go ice skating in the winter, and in the summer you can go paddle boarding, kayaking, or SUPing on the lake. For the summer kayaking I give this place three stars. Having a kayak filled summer I have different locations to compare it to. The kayaks here were all different but were not of good quality. We got the sit-on-top kind that seemed a bit flimsy. We also got soaked when they pushed us into the water off of the dock. The front of these kayaks dip right into the water, which makes your trek around the lake a little less enjoyable and your pants a little more soggy. If you go kayaking often you know that it is a surprisingly dry activity when you aren't in white water rapids. They do have lots of toys to choose from here. They even have a water trike which looks very intimidating! The scenery is always beautiful up here. It is great for a quick float around the lake if you only have the morning to spare. A quick and close escape from the city, but unfortunately you unable to escape the hum of the highway. For the winter I give it five stars. I have come many times to ice skate here and it is loads of fun! Where else can you feel like you are getting a mountain experience and have tons of room to show off your figure skating skills. It is beautiful and a great place for a day date when you need to get outside in the winter time. Nothing is more romantic than falling on your bum after a spectacular pirouette. (I have mad skills). Ultimately, Evergreen Lake House ends with a combined score of four stars. Definitely a wonderful escape when you can't make it all the way up to the bigger mountain towns. It is a quick drive from the city. It is open year 'round and has great little restaurants you can enjoy after your adventurous lake filled day. Truly, a Colorado must. read more

The main ice skating rink is very large but still crowded ( on a Sunday). The line to rent skates and purchase tickets took about an hour and a half. Be mindful of what shoes you bring if you are renting because you leave them with teenagers who are handing out the rental. The Evergreen Lake House is an absolutely gorgeous place to have a wedding. As a destination wedding, our guests were in awe of the location and beauty of the venue. It perfectly fit our 'adventure' vibe and looked so beautiful with minimal decoration. I absolutely loved getting married here. My only complaint is the manager, Lorna. She's incredibly difficult to work with, rude, and was short with us at every single encounter. She fought with our vendors via emails we were CC'd on, she claimed we were 'burdening our family' by having a few of them take care of clean up at the end of the night, and the worst was when she ruined a moment between my mother and I on the wedding day. We were sitting out on the deck, I was writing my vows and my mom and I were just talking about the wedding and the future. Then Lorna came out and repeatedly told us we shouldn't be sitting on the deck and blahblahblah. It was just ridiculous, but honestly that's Lorna. So, if you can handle a difficult person who constantly takes all of the fun and joy out of wedding planning, then I highly recommend the Lake House. read more

Just a short 20-30min drive from Denver lies the Evergreen Lake House. The lake house is a cute lodge and through the lake house is the lake. in the Winter, the lake is divided in many small ice rinks. My husband and I decided to jump in a game of pond hockey. Well, the ice was really, really challenging to skate on - although I have only skated in indoor ice rinks. One things for sure, I will never complain about rink ice again. Once you got the hang of skating on cracks, crevasses and slush it was really, really fun! I had a great time and we stayed and played for hours on a $5/each admission fee. Evergreen Lake House is a great venue for Weddings, however if you plan to book a DJ for your Wedding - set the bar up INSIDE the space that the DJ is located in, otherwise I guarantee people will congregate outside around the bar and the 'dance party' will become an epic fail. We used to love ice skating at Evergreen Lake but won't go anywhere near the place anymore after this weekend. The parking situation is HORRENDOUS. We tried both lots, where were full, and when we asked the staff about alternatives, we were told either the main lot or the upper lot. Not one word about this alleged shuttle service, for which there was not a single sign telling you where the pick up is. In addition, there's a huge and virtually empty parking lot just a half mile away, owned by Denver Parks and Rec, reserved for a small restaurant, and if you park there you get towed, according to the lake house staff. What a waste of time! We've been coming to the lake for a decade but no more. read more

Not particularly thrilled with our experience today. Apparently the lake house is closed so skaters were required to lace up skates and get dressed outside. This was not mentioned on their website and it was 20 degrees outdoors today so may have been worth mentioning! The skate tickets were still the same price even though facilities were not available. Something to consider especially if you have small children. We have been coming here for over 30 years and the ice has always been well maintained. They did not zam the ice this morning and there was a lot of snow. There were 5 workers on the ice not shoveling or making any effort to clear safe paths for customers to get on the ice. We had enjoyed coming here every weekend but are considering finding a new pond for future family skates. read more

This is a great place for ice skating in the winter time. The lake is huge. There are different areas for little games of hockey. The ice itself is pretty bumpy and you need to watch out for cracks. Remember, this isn't high-end olympic grade ice, it's a lake. Its fun for the kids and family. Its large enough that even when it gets crowded, there is plenty of room to skate. You can rent figure skates or hockey skates. They also have a little snack bar for hot coffee or cocoa. The fees are very reasonable. There is also a little trail around the lake that I'd like to check out next time. Happy skating! read more

This lake house is a beautiful wedding venue or a great place to ice skate in the wintertime. For me, it holds my childhood memories of walking down the aisle to the lake at nine years old as a flower girl for my babysitter's wedding. At age two, my father would take me to the nearby coffee shop (it used to be Cafe de Lucca then) for hot chocolate and then spend the morning walking around the lake, admiring the half-frozen waterfall surrounded by beaver dams. Years have passed since those days and on a recent visit back to Evergreen, I was able to ice skate again at the lake house on a sunny winter day. It brought back so many memories. Just left this place after helping clean up for a wedding. Honestly, everything was good until the end until Shawn, the venue staff member, started stressing out at my entire family because she wanted to charge us extra for her bussing tables for us. We had the venue until 10pm and had to have the place cleaned up but apparently her bussing tables on her own accord is grounds for getting a cleaning charge? We were out of there by 9:20pm tonight with the place is order as per the contract and she still insisted that a charge would occur for "her time" that she did not have to do. Things got hostile and it was honestly a really bad ending to an otherwise beautiful day. If it wasn't for her, I would recommend this venue. But due to that experience, I'm gonna have to give a 1 star to this place. read more

I recently attended a destination wedding at this location and as many reviews have stated the location is quite beautiful. The weather was fantastic which helped the setting, a day earlier and it wouldn't have been quite as nice. Staff was very friendly. Parking was good and the drive to the location was pretty easy. Not sure if the location provided the food, but outside of brisket which was a bit chewy, the food was pretty good. One negative note was that around 11, three sheriffs showed up and as I understand it guests had to walk by them to get to their cars. Fortunately the Bride and Groom had arranged for shuttles so there was no problem. I certainly don't know if the property requested the sheriff's but it was, in my opinion not very cool. That alone was enough for me to go with three stars. If the request was external to the location then it would have been 4 stars. read more

However, we still had a great time walking around, making snow angels, and just enjoying the beautiful area. Beautiful wedding venue... After visiting this place once my husband and I knew is was going to be the place we were to marry. The location is beautiful and also pretty easy to find for guests. If you are trying to book a certain date for your wedding you get your name thrown into a lottery ( name in a hat) ... No thanks very weird and awkward..I just a picked a date which wouldn't risk me not getting the venue and this actually resulted in my only brother who is in the military to not be able to attend. The lake house manager wrote back to my original complaint on August 15th 2016. They had stated that the experience in question was addressed internally, and I appreciated the level of professionalism. For me, that goes a long way. In the lake house's defense, they were trying to maintain a private event and the catering staff appeared to be disrupted while people (not tied to the event) were so close to the lake house. Still did not enjoy getting drenched on that day; but there 2 sides to every story, and I want to be fair to the venue. Went there for paddle boarding on a friend's birthday. Such a blast! It's $20/hour rental including a required life vest. The staff adjusts the length of paddle according to your height. There are no lockers, so put everything in your car. There is a free parking lot and a restroom at the beginning of the parking lot. If you are a first-timer for paddle boarding, hope my experience will be helpful. The first step is to get on the board. It only took me several rounds of screaming to finally kneel on the board, totally not because I got bad balance. It's a pretty chilly day, so I put three layers on top. It turned out to be a bad idea, because I started sweating soon after I was on the board. Yes it takes more energy than it looks. When I was paddling (floating) to the middle of the lake, I tried to stand up, but it was hard to keep the balance. I didn't want to fall into water since I got three layers on, so I decided to keep kneeling. The black area on the board is made of rubber, so it didn't hurt to kneel on it (not gonna tell you how I felt the next day though). When I got back to the shore, I finally stood up and it was not as scary as I thought. My suggestion is to wear swimsuit, so you don't need to worry about falling into water when you try to stand up. If you don't feel comfortable standing up, just keep kneeling on the board. read more

The lake is worth the trip. We went during winter when it was iced over and it was beautiful! We didn't end up ice skating because we brought our baby and didn't want to pay the $7 for the admin fee and then another $7 for rental skates. It is fun just to walk along the edge of the lake and watch the hockey games going on and see the ice fishers. There is a great sledding hill too! Bring the sleds! By far one of the coolest hidden spots I've ever visited. After getting stuck in unexpected traffic on I-70 one morning, my girlfriend suggested this place for ice skating as Plan B. I've never seen anything quite like it -- a kiddie ice skating learning area, a couple of private rinks for real games, and a giant public rink, about 4 times the size of a normal indoor rink. And this is all outdoors. Exposure to the natural elements makes it tougher to skate on, but somehow they manage to keep the zamboni rolling. Perfect backdrop for a perfect date place. read more

Somewhere on their website it should mention the long lines for skate rentals. I went last Saturday with a group of about 15 from all over Colorado only to find out it was over an hour wait just to rent skates. Also - fix your parking situation. After entering the line of cars going into the parking lot, there were NO parking spaces and we had to wait over 30 minutes just to get back out to the main road. You can't get your car out of the line to exit, you have to wait while every single car in front of you waits for a parking space to open up which was a one in one out situation. Why you wouldn't put up a sign that says "LOT'S FULL" and avoid 50+ cars trying to come in to park is beyond me. This place was a cluster-F and ridiculous. It sure was pretty though as I viewed the rink from our car as we left. I'll opt for a smaller more organized rink next time. read more

Too fun! I grew up in the area and lived on this lake through middle and high school - skating from morning until closing - and had the chance to bring my daughter here for her first time on skates (and my first time BACK on skates in about 20 years). The lake house is great, don't be put off if its busy - they are very good at moving people thorugh the ticket and skate rental lines quickly. Loved that they let us loan a helmet for little ones (at no extra cost - nice). The lake itself is wonderful - they have it sectioned off well so nobody gets hit by a stray puck from the hockey players. (NOT the case wIt is in good condition - and in our case, it was an awesome sunny day, so everyone was peeling off their layers to enjoy it. Loved seeing parents skating with their kids in strollers - ON THE LAKE! Very cool that they allow this - great exercise for mom and dad - great fun for the kids. Went here with a group for the day 2 of us took out a canoe 1 took out a paddle board and the rest took out a water bike. To get an hour of cardio and a full body workout we spent around $80 for a group of 6. The staff was great giving everyone detailed instruction along with helping us in and out of the water. There are restrooms onsite along with free parking and when you're finished there is a museum of sorts that you can tour giving you an overview of the wildlife in the area. read more

Went ice skating here in early March. Got there as the sun was setting and wished we had come during the day. The ice was not at all smooth with little chunks and scrapes everywhere. Apparently they hadn't been able to get the zamboni on there for a few weeks. It was tough to actually get any good skating done here, but we ended up having fun anyway. It is definitely a beautiful outdoor rink and I would recommend it for the experience, but the day we went the conditions on the ice were terrible. read more

The skating was great but the lines were ludicrous. My wife needed to get rental skates and we waited for almost an hour just to get the skates! There is absolutely no reason for a line like that and to top it off, she had to wait another 20 minutes to return them. I considered asking for my money back, but decided it wasn't worth the time I would have to wait in line.
