Lakeside Cabins Resort is a wonderful place for all ages. We recently stayed in Cabin A-10 and we were pleased with the cleanliness & comfort the cabin provided. We spent many hours outside on the screened in deck. A personal fire pit was available for our use. The swimming pools & lake provided a respite from the heat. The management schedules games & activities, and there are shuffle board & pickleball courts for pickup games. The bright stars lit up the night sky. It is hard to find a place to go to getaway from home in the middle of a pandemic. After a few hours of searching, my friend and I decided to spend 3 nights and 4 days at Lakeside Cabins Resort. The cabins have a full kitchen and the location is only 1.5 hours from my condo in Chicago. The prices were more affordable than Airbnb and Vrbo mostly due to lower cleaning fees. The grounds also have nice amenities (pool, kayak/ stand up paddle boards, volleyball, catch and release fishing, basketball, shuffleboard, firepits, etc.) We picked Cabin C62 because of its patio/deck space and lake views. The cabin is somewhat dated, but it was very clean. You do have to bring towels, linens, shampoo/conditioner/dish soap, paper products, etc. which makes for more packing/ planning but we expected this so it wasn't an issue. The sleeping lofts can be used by children or adults. I had no problem going up and down the stairs both during the day and in the evening/night. The only "problem" that we ran into was that our DVD player was not working when we tried to watch a movie the first night. We reported this to the front desk and they purchased a new DVD player and delivered it to us in a timely manner so we were satisfied. The staff was very friendly. We were able to find more than enough to do and were also able to relax. The property is very kid friendly and not loud at night or early in the morning which is exactly what we were looking for. After my rental experience, I am considering purchasing and building a new "tiny house" on the property. I've always wanted a second home, and this is a very affordable way to be able to do so nice and close to home! I plan to visit again next month with my husband for another short getaway. This place is literally my happy place. My family and I found this place in summer of 2020, and loved it so much we went back 5 more times that summer alone. The people here are amazing and there's never a time where you don't know what to do. LCR is close to New Buffalo, so you can just drive to town and go shopping and get food. There are also awesome woods and dunes for you to hike nearby. LCR is really an awesome place! read more

This is the email I wrote to the resort and until this day, no responds. Unfortunately.... "Before I leave a review online I would like to let you know about our stay in your resort. Even though we loved the area and the nature, we are very disappointed with the condition of the cabin. Its very clear that nobody is doing any detail work. The cabin is surrounded with wild growing weed, while you can tell that most of the privately owned ones are having nice landscaping around. When you walk inside you are welcomed by a stained and dirty carpet. The big chair in the living area is absolutely disgusting. Just filthy. Not sure why anybody would keep a chair like this in a cabin or anywhere. It belongs in a dumpster. At least half of the window blinds dont have a handle to open or close them. The switch of the fan in the bathroom is broken and two light bulbs above the mirror are out. All things which should be fixed before guests show up. The patio in the bag is beautiful, but wasn't cleaned or "un-spidered" in weeks. We understand, its nature, and there will be some spiderwebs, but there were multiple spider nests on the ceiling. The little private deck at the water is so pretty and peaceful, but looking around, you see plastic bottles and other garbage people left behind. This should also be checked and cleaned before new guests arrive. I read reviews on Yelp before I booked your cabin and there were reviews already mentioning that the cabins are not in great conditions, but since the reviews were a few years old I was sure the problems were solved by you in the meantime. Unfortunately I was wrong. I attached a few pictures to this email, even though I'm sure you are aware of all these issues. The amount charged per night is way to high for what you get. This was a birthday getaway for my husband as a present and I was hoping it'll be beautiful. As much as we loved the nature at your resort, we most likely wont come back." read more

I have visited LCR a few times as a "girls trip" with my sister and our kids and had a great time. We decided to go as a family so my husband could experience LCR as well. This trip was very disappointing. We unloaded and got things put away, my daughter noticed a "cheesy foul" smell in the loft. We went to the office and told them it honestly smells like vomit. She gave us some febreze and told us to try that. No offer to come check it out, clean it or change cabins. We sprayed and sprayed and it became livable and we moved the mattress as far from the area as possible. We decided to watch TV and found that this cabin had no Wi-Fi. Ok our mistake. Let's watch a DVD, nope cuz there is no connector for the dvd to the tv!!!!! Try to play some music but nope, stereo was not working. The fridge had a water and ice dispenser but wasn't connected to water so no fresh water or ice and no ice trays even! We tried to have a bonfire but a couple of the chairs out back were broken. The location of the resort is great and family friendly but this trip truly was disappointing. We wanted to be together in a cabin versus a hotel, but it ended up everyone just wanted to go home. Stayed at cabin C47 and honestly had the most amazing experience. The cabin was updated and pristine. Beautifully decorated. Rustic and welcoming. More than enough cabinet space and a large enclosed porch with ample seating space for entertaining and family meals. Outdoor fire pit. Gas grill. So quiet at night. We slept better than we ever have in years on the sleep number bed with multiple pillows.. Close to the stores in nearby Sawyer, Three Oaks, New Buffalo and quaint pumpkin patch with ample (and free!) activities for the kids. Minutes from the highway. Recommending Lakeside Cabin Resorts -- Cabin C47 to everyone I know. Looking forward to going back next year. Hardily recommend! read more

The location is very good and the park is nice. Our unit was dated and had a very uncomfortable couch which I'd highly recommend the owner replace as soon as possible. The bed was decent but there were very old pillows with stains on them that should be disposed of immediately. Also, the trash had not been emptied prior to our arrival and there was a strange smell in the unit, which we didn't connect to being a dead rodent in the trash during our stay (it looked like there were just some papers in there). At any rate the trash should have been emptied before we arrived and it wasn't. Very irritating especially with a decaying rodent in there! I would rent from this park again but probably choose a different unit as my understanding is these are independently owned and I hope to find a more tidy owner/cleaning service. read more

Our recent visit was our tenth and we truly appreciate all that the staff does to make LCR feel like our home away from home. As always the grounds were immaculate and our cabin was in great shape. I am giving four stars but only because it is a great idea, they provide a lot making staying there convenient and we made fond memories during our weekend there! Our initial walk through in cabin LCR-C53 almost made us walk back out. We were advised that this is the resorts owners cabin. The carpeting in bedroom wasn't vacuumed well (bug shells), kitchen floor wasn't cleaned well, a few of the light switches didn't work, the speakers in ceiling-blown, the corners of screen around porch were hanging (mosquito's could get in), there were tons of dead leaves mixed w garbage in the back around stairs-this was a pet friendly cabin so leaves can create a home for ticks. The shower door had to be lifted up in order to be opened. There was a smelly mildewy bath rug at the shower. And the trees were overgrown and crowding the stairs and pier. I've read on other reviews that other cabins were really clean so hopefully our experience is not the norm. Aside from our above complaints we really enjoyed the free use of kayaks, the fact that we could bring our dog with us and she could swim in the lake, the special events they put on-they had live music the night we arrived. And the friendly people. We would go back and stay in a cleaner cabin, fun for our whole family!! read more

Lakeside Cabins is neither a resort nor a glamping getaway. One guest called it an overpriced trailer park. Another added that it was more like a mobile home with some wood slapped on. Both descriptions are spot on, except that it's not wood that's slapped on, it's cheap laminate made to look like wood. I would add to those previous opinions, the fact that management couldn't care less what guests think. Friends of ours selected Lakeside Cabins to house their out-of-town wedding guests. According to their website, "your cabin offers you an affordable, low maintenance getaway." Really? The kitchen and bath should have been replaced years ago. The carpet was filthy, the faucet handle came off in my hand. Off season at $200 a night is not affordable. But what irked me the most was management's attitude. After checking in, we quickly drove to the cabin to wash up and get ready for the wedding. One problem, there was no soap, no towels, no sheets, no bed linens, only a mangy quilt over the bed. I called the office and was told that Lakeside Cabins "Resort" guests were responsible for bringing their own linens and bath supplies, something they failed to tell me when I made reservations. I immediately received an email confirming my reservations. Nothing there reminded me to bring sheets and towels. I complained to no avail. They didn't even keep an extra sheet or towel on hand just-in-case. We couldn't stay the night, much less the two we booked. When we came back the next day for wedding festivities, I spoke to the person managing the office. He had plenty of attitude, but no sheets, no refund. read more

We took our whole family here for Labor Day and rented three cabins. The cabins are small (think single-wide trailer) but charming. The cabin my wife and I were in had no pillows, despite the fact that the description online says pillows are provided. The management did eventually provide pillows about an hour after the kids bed time. They said they had to run out and buy them, so I understand somewhat. But we also chose this location because of the huge screened in decks. However our cabin had entire sections of screen missing. There were also lightbulbs out inside. We informed management and we're told they put a work order in, but they never showed up while we were there. We spent extra to get a cabin on the "lake", which is really an expansive pond, and the dock was so unsteady we would not let the kids out on it to fish. Final straw is the oven had rotting food left in it. We cleaned it up as much as we could, but not having oven cleaner, there wasn't much we could do. So when we cooked breakfast, we ended up getting smoked out of the cabin. I don't have a problem with rustic or even primitive amenities. What I have a problem with is the price, compared to what we got. We spent around $330 / night for a trailer park experience that happened to have a pond on the property. We won't be coming back here again. read more

Just got back from a vacation at Lakeside Cabins Resort. It was a very nice place; very peaceful and close to beautiful Lake Michigan beaches. We rented a cute cabin that had a wonderful screened in porch, and best of all, we could bring our dog. They have a fishing lake, outdoor pools, and a small sandy beach. A great family get-away. This place is a gem! We booked a cabin at the resort last minute with another couple. We stayed in Cabin 26-C. Perfectly situated, quiet, and fully stocked with everything we could have needed! The cabin was immaculate and tastefully decorated. We enjoyed every second of it! The lodge manager was very nice and friendly. Overall a great experience! I would highly recommend! read more

We stayed here (P16) for Labor Day weekend 2017. We couldn't have asked for a better cabin and had a great time. We loved the fire pit on site. We enjoyed bingo with the regulars. The kids loved the kayaks and paddle boards. We took advantage of everything the resort had to offer. Our cabin was clean and roomy and came stocked with everything we needed. The screened in porch was a hit for every family meal! Everyone was very nice and helpful. The Dunes are close and we spent an entire day there. They have a cute little town nearby for any needs you may have forgotten. The restaurants in town were good. We will be back! read more

If you can, ask for cabin C26. It was super clean and comfy. Its near the pool and had plenty of room for my family. Love this resort!

We have rented a cabin here for the last 3 years (I believe A-13, A-10 and K-3). We really enjoy renting here but you must understanding what you are getting - this is not a luxury glamping experience. It's camping + plumbing/air conditioning with great amenities. The cabins are dated and cleanliness is not up to the level of a hotel, however, this is a great place for the family. It is very safe, there's plenty to do (pools, walking, beach, kayaking on the pond, volleyball, basketball, organized activities (not sure this summer with Covid), etc.), most units have a fire put, it's a 10-15 minute drive to New Buffalo (restaurants, shops, coffee, etc.), there's wineries and breweries nearby and it's 90 minutes from Chicago. The rentals are a bit overpriced but it's hard to find all of the above close to Chicago. Additionally, there's plenty of cabins that are pet friendly, which is important to us. read more

We had a relaxed 4th of July weekend here. The place is ideal for families with small children. The fishing pond was good for wading, and the small beach was perfect for our two year old. The two pools are very nice. We stayed right on the fishing pond, which was pretty. Our only complaint was the cabins are REALLY close together, so on a busy weekend we were right on top of our neighbors. There was very little privacy, especially when we wanted to sit on the screened-in porch. We'll look at other options for family resorts in the area, but will probably be back. read more

I have been taking my family to LCR for the past 6 years. This place is so tranquil and charming. I love how the park trailer models look like little log cabins. Yes, the cabins are small...but I consider them a camping luxury. They are equipped with central air, modern appliances and indoor plumbing. Roughing it here? NO....but still having all the benefits of camping..yes! And the best part about these cabins is the sleeping lofts....my kids absolutely love this feature. The resort offers a lot of fun activities while being in an intimate setting. There's fishing, boating, swimming, beach play in the sand, volleyball, basketball, shuffleboard, bike riding, campfires, hiking, and bbq ing. The faciitlies are clean and the pools are great. We really enjoy our long weekends at LakesideCabinsResort and look forward to coming back year after year. The best part is that it's only a short drive from Chicago. Stayed here over Labor Day weekend with another family. We rented 2 cabins and had similar experiences. Let me start by saying the concept is great, but the cabins were filthy and in need of maintenance. Our was also unsafe. The concept: fishing, swimming pool, pancake breakfast, complementary cookout...what's not to like about that. The cabins: Upon arriving we noticed a nice sized puddle in one bedroom that had also seeped into the bathroom under the wall. I could tell this was not a new leak, because there was a good amount of mold/mildew along the seems of walls and tub. The repair man addressed the leak the next day but said water will continue to seep into the room because there is puddling where the hot water heater was framed in. Has anyone ever heard of a shop vac to get the extra water out??? Instead he gave us more towels to keep soaking this up. The floors were absolutely filthy. Our socks turned black within minutes. The kitchen light was out. The owner removed the fluorescent bulb on day 1, and we never saw him again. The way the cabin was laid out made for a pretty dark kitchen area. We went to open the pull-out couch, and it was obvious no one had lifted a cushion in a long time. You name it, and that food was laying on top of the pull-out bed. The cabinets under the sink where the silverware was stored smelled like a science experiment of mold and mildew. As we were leaving, on day 3, we found the smoke detector behind an appliance with battery out. So, there you have it. These problems were a result of basic neglect, poor cleaning protocol, and poor follow-up. Our friend's cabin was just as filthy but no flooding. I would not recommend this "resort." read more
