Sent out our 1099s using the WRONG ACCOUNT - our Independent Contractors all received 1099s with the employer listed as a veterinary service. Sent out incorrect w2s. All while charging EXORBITANT fees beyond what was agreed to. Whenever we caught them in a mistake, they would make excuses, blaming the state, or us, or "we never got that password." According to the state a significant amount of the paperwork they filed for us was incorrect and we owe a lot of money. The state also said that the company could have gained access to everything they said they "couldn't do" with one phone call to them. Fraud? Incompetence? You decide. Just stay far away if you need a bookkeeper.

Upon leaving his office he gave the impression that my return should be pretty straight forward and that he would have the paperwork complete in about a weeks time. I sent him a follow up email the following week asking if he needed any additional paperwork from us and I got no response. I sent him another email the week after asking for an ETA and once again asked if he needed any additional information from me, still no response. Week 3 we left a voicemail with his office admin and still did not receive a call back or reply via email. To make matters worse, the person who answered the phone was quite rude and reminded us that it was a "month before the tax deadline, what do you expect?". I finally went in person to his office (without an appointment) to ask about the status of our return. He pulled out the paperwork and notified me that he needed some addtional info for our child expenses and some info for stocks I had sold that year. Really? Why didn't you mention that earlier, you know...when I emailed you once a week asking if you needed anything else? Or why not pickup the phone and return a call? When confronted about the lack of response to my emails and phone message, he was rude and once again stated that it was "only a month before the deadline" what did I expect?!? Seriously? Who operates a business like that? Regardless, I provided him with the information he requested within 30 minutes of leaving his office. Another week went by, still not a word. I sent a follow up email the following week, you guessed it...NO RESPONSE. Over a month has gone by since I met with him in person and turned in my paperwork when we receive an actual email from Dan. Exciting right?? nope...he was asking for basic information which had already been answered by us (more than once) at our initial meetings and via email. Unbelievable. Finally when confronting him via email about this, he stated that he no longer felt comfortable handling our return and mailed our paperwork back to us with two weeks left before the deadline. Extremely unprofessional! I highly recommend you stay away from this CPA and take your taxes elsewhere.

Quality Service All Around…read more Dan Barnes has completed my taxes for over a decade. He and his staff are always professional and looking out for my best interest. I receive a packet of information every year that among other things, includes tips on how tax laws have changed and how they may impact me. He also provides recommendations of the types of expenses and documentation I may want to include in order to obtain the lowest tax rate possible. If I have questions, his office responds promptly and thoroughly. Once I return my documentation to Dan's office, my tax return is completed and filed quickly. If I do not get my documentation to Dan's office prior to April 15, they automatically file an extension for me without me even needing to ask. Their service is stellar as is their preparation of tax returns. Dan and his staff always review my situation and finances carefully to ensure they take advantage of every tax law that may benefit me. In addition, he uses secure systems to make my completed tax return available to me immediately over the internet. I highly recommend Dan and his staff.

The only complaint I have, is that Jan has never gotten me the million dollar refund I have been asking him for, for many years. What? No one called to advise us that our return hadn't been filed, in spite of $420 fee that had been charged 2 months earlier. We paid the bill immediately, but our return remains unfiled. This is the last time I rely on an internet review. I wouldn't recommend this guy to anyone. He's not reliable, doesn't follow through, and doesn't communicate with his clients. Very unprofessional. Since my mom doesn't drive, I brought her paperwork to their office and showed them where the deduction would be. From day one communication from this business was exceptionally scarce. Most of my 'updates' were in the form of automatic reply emails. It had been almost 4 months since bringing them my mom's paperwork, and her amendment still had not been filed. Additionally, It had been over a month since I had received any word from this business (not even automatic email replies). In an act of desperation and frustration I repeatedly called their business one day in an attempt to find some clarity. The next day I received an email shaming me for my attempts to reach them and stating that after a "quick review" of my moms tax return they didn't "understand what is wrong with it", even though I carefully explained and showed where the omitted deduction was when I dropped off the paperwork. It was clear that this was a retaliation, and that my mom was now being punished for what they deemed as my bad behavior. Which again, was one day of trying repeatedly to reach someone by phone. When paying a business to do one's taxes, the consumer has a reasonable expectation that they will be prepared correctly, or that any errors or oversights will be corrected in a timely and professional manner. Their refusal to amend her tax return not only reflects a lapse in ethical judgment but also raises questions about their commitment to the principles of their profession. I am extremely disappointed and would certainly not recommend that anyone use this business.
