I really hate having to write this review. In general I try to use Yelp for good, and in only the most extreme cases--as shown by my post history--will I leave a one-star review. I do not take the power of Yelp lightly. But as much as I like Baruch, he failed my husband and I, as well as my business, terribly. How? He never filed our taxes. Repeated emails starting in November of 2017 to get prepared for April went unanswered. He'd occasionally respond with semi-apologies ("I took on too much this year") or attempts at placating us, but April came and went with no Baruch in site. We filed our own extensions and emailed again to set up time to prepare for the next deadline. It's now almost October. My billing department and bookkeeper finally gave Baruch a deadline of Monday at noon to respond or we'd have to go elsewhere. The email was sent with plenty of time to respond. Nothing. Not a peep. This was four weeks ago, and he has never taken the time to write back. We've gone elsewhere--we found a firm with a very hands-on approach, which is super reassuring after being ignored for ten months--and I feel I owe it to the Yelp-verse to update my previous 5-star review, so others can make an educated decision when searching for a CPA. read more

His staff is efficient and understanding. They totally made me feel comfortable. I had a video conference meeting with Clifton on April 3 to go over my tax filing and everything went smoothly and seemed great. Fast forward to April 27th, I have not heard anything from Clifton or the GoGreenTax team regarding my filing. I thought my taxes would be filed by the typical April 15 tax deadline, nothing had been said it may be pushed back to the new July 15th deadline. I reached out via email to ask for an update on the status of my tax filing - no response (email sent April 27). I followed up with another email on May 8 - no response. Another email on June 4 - no response. Tried calling today (June 15) no one is answering. Sent another email.. I really need to know if my taxes will be filed in time for the July 15th deadline... If they are not capable of doing their job I need to know NOW so I can find another alternative. He helped us out with filing some back returns we never got around to filing as well as our most recent 2016. He made it so simple; bring in EVERYTHING you have, he'll sift through it all, let you know what you have that he can work with, and other paperwork that you need to double check around the house for to see if he can get you more money back. If Baruch sold a shirt saying "I Heart Baruch", I'd totally wear it. I was referred to Baruch of Go Green Tax just a few months before the craziness of tax season. We had a great first conversation and he graciously took me on as a client when a few other CPAs said they were totally booked. My taxes aren't that straightforward these days. I do a lot of contracting, moved to a new state, have a startup, and work for a company. Years of using Turbotax took a toll and my taxes were a mess. Baruch was nothing but lip service, and admitted he wasn't capable of doing my taxes. I turned over my documents in October, Baruch told me several times the taxes were completed and "I don't know why you can't open the file" only to start asking more question's in July, and finally telling me he "needed another set of eyes" to look at the taxes after they were complete. My business suffered greatly. Late filling fees, and my loan expired so I had to pay huge penalties and interest because you can not refinance without current taxes. Wow, what a waste of time! I have been doing my own taxes but thought I may be leaving some money on the table so I made an appointment because I wanted some individual attention this season. I have a rental and we both work, not a big business situation. I was recommended to Go Green from a friend that had a very similar situation to mine. I made the appointment a month out and uploaded all the information ahead of time so the accountant could review the documents. I received a call from Go Green at the appointment time (they moved to teleconference for Corona) from Clifton that had obviously not reviewed my documents at all, he asked me a few questions while he fumbled through the information I had provided that he was supposed to have reviewed. He accused me several times of not providing information even though he would find it a few seconds later while he looked over his own documents. Then he wanted to call me later that day or the next so we could go over the filing. Fine. He called me later that day telling me that my situation needed more time to go over and he couldn't get to it before the filing deadline because he had too many other cases to go over so he wanted to file an extension and get to it later after tax season. He obviously had not prepared for my appointment and did not want to give me any of the attention that I was paying for. I ended up just filing online again in less time than it took me to scan and upload all the documents they wanted. I worked with Baruch last year and, though he's a nice guy and a competent accountant, his level of communication left a lot to be desired. He often didn't respond to emails, and when he did, gave one-sentence responses that didn't really answer my questions. When he failed to respond to a simple tax question I asked in September or a follow-up I sent in January, I decided it was time to go elsewhere. -- Response to the comment below: Two quick points: 1) I received a generic "make your tax appointment today!" email a couple months after emailing Baruch with my question, which I assume is what you're referring to. I couldn't recommend Baruch more as a tax preparer! I came to him many years ago when I first moved to Portland, OR. H&R Block did my taxes wrong (never go there) and I had to file an amendment. I didnt want to go through that mess again so sought out a real preparer. I have very complicated taxes and was looking for someone who is patient, professional, actively listens, asks questions, and is super knowledgeable - meaning, actively finds ways to get money back for you. Baruch exceeded my expectations! I am usually calling him throughout the year (not just at tax season) to help answer my questions or help me navigate various tax situations and he is always very responsive and helpful. I often feel like the IRS likes to stalk me with all the tax notices I get in the mail. I send them directly to Baruch and he will call the IRS on my behalf, or help me show any kind of documentation that I might need. I had a rental property outside of Portland, that I always had various questions from the state and town come up about that property and its quarterly taxes. Baruch would be so patient as to call the town or state on my behalf to help navigate the situation. I was hoping to not owe a ton of money because i didnt think i had enough withheld and i had income from a fulltime job as well as a side business. Not only did i not owe as much as i thought but somehow they managed to get me 3000 back! at a time with so much uncertainty i'm thankful for their help. the cost was a well spent $600. compare that with last year when i took zero exemption and spent 150 with hr block and owed 1500. its an investment that paid off major dividends. with hr block i first had to file, then pay an "expert" to look things over only to tell me that "yup" owing 1500 is the best i can do. so i spent that money for nothing. now i can splurge on toilet paper!!! yippeeee!!!!!! take my advice, go see clifton and baruch for your taxes! but dont steal them from me!!!!! ya hear? read more
