We were invited to come along with some friends to this resort to fish. They have come up here for years and years. We loaded up to stay a week in a cabin. The cabins have the bare essentials. You get a toaster, a coffee pot, a full kitchen. There are some cooking essentials, but you want to bring what you think you'll need. We arrived a little early before or friends on Friday evening. I knew this place had good vibes as soon as we parked. Hundreds of dragonflies filled the air. They danced around us as we went up to the office. The resort owner was in the office. He came out to greet us. He gave us a run down of the resort. He showed us where laundry, trash, recycle, fish cleaning, parking, the cabin, and anything else we need was. We made our way to our cabin. The cabins are different sizes. Ours was a two bedroom cabin. Nice common area, with table, heater, futon, and room to hang out. I bowl of fruit awaits you on the table with the welcome letter. We were in cabin #1. The wind coming off the lake blew right into our cabin for a beautiful breeze. The air flow through this cabin is great. We did happen to pack a fan and used it in the bedroom. Each bedroom in this cabin had a full sized bed, closet, and dresser. Perfect for us, and our friends and their young son. The cabins each have their own seating area that over looks beautiful lake Clitherall. Could be a picnic table or chairs around a fire pit. There is shared access down to the boat dock. Boat slips for rent. You could rent a small boat too if needed. Swim or fish off the dock. This is big ice Fisher area in the winter. Just so quiet and beautiful. A couple cats roam the resort being good hunters. They were very sweet kitties and came to visit multiple times over the week. I loved it here. Perfect for our get away fishing trip. When it came time for our friends to switch cabins we helped them move into cabin #7. This one was a 3 bedroom. Not as good air flow, but bigger. What I noticed as we checked out the other cabins that my friends family was staying in was that each had their own rustic charm. Each had their own decorations, different drapes, different dishes, different furniture. All had a hand made fish spoon dish on the stove with the Old Town Resort on it. Each had a Old Town Resort soap in the bathroom. I loved the charm here. I already told hubby I would come back to this resort for another fishing trip. Just a quiet escape away from everything. I learned tent camping with an outhouse, fishing, swimming, watersking and milking cows! Over the years there were many updates and I took my kids so they could experience this wonderful place. I am now a grandmother so you guessed it.. my grandchildren have also experienced what Haven Hill has meant to our family! I have no doubt that they will take their children one day! The owners have a special place in our families hearts and will continue to be our " home away from home".

This is what life is all about. We love it here and now that we are retired, we plan to stay here most of the summer. We stay for 2 weeks in a cabin and the other weeks on our motor home camping. Fishing is what it's all about here.

We made this purchase during an home and garden show last winter. We met the owners at this show and they sold us a bunch of smoke and mirrors. Once we arrived we were told that our hand pick out cabin that I put a $400 deposit on was changed. The owner told me it would be an upgrade for me with no charge. The big selling point from the owner was that it was bigger. Once we entered we notice that It came with a second floor, that was no benefit to me because there was only 3 of us. We also notice that the furniture was extremely warn all though out this cabin very uncomfortable, the couch had a large piece plywood underneath the seat, made it feel like you were sitting on cement blocks. All bedding in all rooms were extremely dirty smelled like fish. I called prior to coming to verify that there were TV's and wifi in our cabin, so we could watch the NBA finals. The owner told me that there were two TV's in this cabin one would be a new 40 inch TV and there would also be WiFi. There was only one TV it was a 20 year old 13" TV and no WiFi. The big kicker for my family was that we were told by the owners prior to putting a deposit on this cabin that we would be able to rent Jet Ski's for my son to enjoy. Once arrived we were inform by the owners that they don't rent Jet Ski's to much of a liability for them but they would try to find a company that does. The never responded back to us, My family and I spent the next day driving around and calling other companies to rent Jet Skis with no luck. The website is very deceiving it suggest that you can hang out in there fancy Lodge along with Jet Ski's rentals and its real cool but it doesn't exists, its actually a home were there owners live. If you have any teenagers there is no volley ball court or basketball court or any activities for them to do . The cabins our extremely warn down and dirty. Nothing is provided. No bath towels or dish cloths.No laundry facilities. All out door furniture i.e. chairs were destroyed along with the grill. When settling my bill 2 days early I was charged over $200 extra then what was agreed upon for having a small pet. And as for the boat that we paid extra for was a old pontoon boat that my grand daughter could swim faster then the boat would go. Was in need of some serious work, it took no less then 20 attempts to start this boat. We were told that this boat could pull and inter tube and ski. The lake was nice but again was the smallest lake in its area. There were several other camps in the surrounding area. They are all updated with Wi/Fi and regularly boats with golf courses. If your planning on spending $1600 and above I recommend a different place.

The lake itself is wonderful. Very clean and hardly any people (at least when we are there). The family that owns East Silent Lake are some of the kindest and most hospitable hosts I have ever met. They truly go above and beyond to make your stay memorable. The resort offers many activities and equipment: Pontoon boats, fishing boats, speed boats (if you want to try water-skiing, wake-boarding, etc.), kayaks, paddle boards, etc. It was a great week and we look forward to going back in the future!

We really enjoyed shuttling our kids ( 9 year old twins) to and from the water trampoline and the huge inflatable slide on the paddle-boats. The also have paddle-boards which are my personal favorite. The rooms are clean and comfortable with modern amenities like cable TV and high speed WiFi. My only tip is to book early as this place fills up fast during the summer months.

We were suppose to rent a pontoon from this resort and he said he would have it in the water for us on Monday, no boat! Called him several times, and left messages, no return phone calls. His wife would always say something but nothing to help us. We finally ended up going to another resort for a boat. We also had to steal the grill from 2 cabins down where thank god nobody was staying so we could grill out. We also had to buy our own TP. It was an ok cabin and nice view of the lake but I wouldn't recommend going somewhere where the owner doesn't say a word nor does he return phone calls. He sent his wife down the day before we left to finish collecting what we owed for the week. She said his back had been hurting and if that was the case, why was nothing said in the beginning. I have never been so disappointed. We won't be going back!!!

But my lady friend and I did our homework and checked our sources. We were told this was a great spot. Our sources had it right! The Brookside Motel doesn't offer a continental breakfast. Nor is there a swimming pool. But they offer many other things. Free cable T.V. with a lot more channels than I expected. A coffee maker, mini fridge, and a microwave was provided too. The towels are thick and our room was kept vey clean. Also the beds are comfortable. I slept like a baby. It had the look and feel of a cabin. Which we both loved! The lady we dealt with, owned the motel with her husband. She was a wonderful hostess!!!! We couldn't thank her enough. If I'm ever in Wadena again, I'll make a return trip to the Brookside Motel.
