Rolling hills, beautiful trees, major green belt areas and a lake. They have cool activities for the kids like riflery, archery, horse back riding, arts & crafts, swimming in the lake and much much more. But they really leaned into some of these odd things. Like sacrificing animals, and what makes you a "True ChristIan". It's not a good reflection of good Christians that want to follow the rules of god, like being a good person. It would be a much better camp if the teachings weren't so odd. Parking was a little different since we parked across the street, but it was free, which was a nice surprise. The restrooms were clean, there were snacks and drinks available, and since we weren't sure what to expect, we ate beforehand. The real magic was watching all four of my kids, ages 4 to 12, find something they genuinely loved. That doesn't happen everywhere! From arts and crafts to climbing, sliding, exploring, and creating, there was something for every personality and energy level. No one was bored. Not even for a minute. As a mom, I appreciated the clean environment, family friendly atmosphere, and free Wi-Fi. As a M.O.M.=maker of memories maker, I loved seeing my kids laugh, play, and discover new things together. Counselors know everybody's name, there are horses, zip lining, ropes course, waterfront, archery, riflery, water front, and a ton of other things that are really entertaining. All in all I love this camp very much (also it's a great break from tech) and it's the one place where I can fall asleep with melatonin (it tires you out in a good way) and my anger issues get a lot better here because it's very calming. As for the price, I think if you can afford it you should DEFINITELY have your kid come here. It's near Shreveport, Louisiana but if you live somewhere too far to drive (i.e. a kid lives in Vegas) then you can fly and they'll pick you up at the airport and get you over on a bus. 10/10 recommend. The cabins are falling apart and have many cracks where bugs find their way in. Two years in a row my cabin was infested with spiders. The last time I went the cabin flooded with the smallest amount of rain and there was an ant problem. The workers there have a problem with favoriting certain campers. The food is cheap and frankly very bad. You are never able to tell if you are eating fish patties or chicken ones(not an exaggeration). Ever heard of Sysco? Because that is all you eat. The cheapest and lowest quality food I have ever seen/ate. The councilors are very young themselves and are not old enough to be responsible for your 6+ year olds. Don't get me wrong, it used to be okay. Until, they got a new head director who is not one to pass down little traditions that made Camp Fern what it was. Anything that people found joy in was removed; non-honor campers, Nola roasts, some camp songs, ect. If you haven't gone to this camp you wouldn't understand. In conclusion, this camp is not for you unless you want to waste money to get the cheapest quality of everything. These people only care about your money, not your experience.

I can not say enough wonderful things about this camp. Every year that we have picked them up, no one wants to come home as they want to continue to stay and have fun with their counselors, friends, old and new, and being adventurous. I felt compelled to write this review because I read some of the negative reviews left that I can absolutely, with 100% assurance, say we have never heard of nor experienced with any of our children. People from every walk of life are present and everyone is welcomed with open arms. I've also gone myself for the mother-daughter camp and experienced first-hand how the bunks feel and the camp operates. They were comfortable, quiet and clean. While the cuisine isn't five-star, it is good camp food. The kids love it and there is a good selection. We can't expect a Perry's steakhouse every night for these guys! The counselors have always been very attentive and write to our children via postcard during the year to check-in and encourage them to continue their personal growth and relationship with God. My children LOVE their counselors. The camp is wholesome, fun, offers a huge selection of activities and is close to Houston while being just far enough away. I could go on and on, but I would encourage anyone looking for a great place to send their children for a fantastic sleep away camp to look into Camp Cho-Yeh.
