The office staff are rude unhelpful and completely unprofessional. Truly condescending.

If you're looking for pills, this is your place. If you're looking for therapy, go elsewhere. He flat out said he won't provide it because insurance doesn't pay him enough to do so, and he has to keep his business afloat. The fact that they promote this office as a place to receive therapy services is abominable. He saw a new client every 10-15 minutes, and I'd be very interested to see how he's billing these sessions, and what the insurance companies would say if they saw how he conducts business. read more

This "doctor" abandoned my son after prescribing HEAVY meds to him and having him involuntarily committed to a psychiatric hospital. Of which, the hospital released him in less than 24 hours (they wanted to release him sooner, but a social worker spoke to the hospital on our behalf. How do you abandon (he said he didn't want to treat him after he prescribed and committed him) a patient?????? BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think this might be a pill mill. I've been seeing Dr. Tissera for many years and I've never had a issue with his care. I would highly recommend him.

Have been going to Dr. Tissera for probably twenty years. He is a very caring, compassionate doctor. I would highly recommend him.

Dr Lilath Tissera was not only unprofessional, but also rude, insensitive, And insulting to say the least. When I originally called for this appointment I made it a point To let them know of my current insurance that had just changed, causing a lapse in my medication as well as a provider that could see me to distribute it. When I got there I was not only told that the provider isn't contracted with my insurance, but also when I was seen I was immediately rejected for my prescriptions that I only had a 2 week refill for until I was able to be seen for this appointment. Not only was it the prescription that he didn't want to fill but he also rejected distributing my other 2 prescriptions that Had a risk of running seizures or having cardiac arrest having not taken them for over 24 hours. And just a side note none of these are close to a controlled substance and medications I have been on for up to 10 years. He was not only insensitive to the fact that I was leaving there and couldn't even stand up properly but basically stood up and open the door for me to leave while I was broken down in tears.The fact that the Communication was so poor from the Beginning and being told that this facility took my insurance that they had previously ran prior to coming to this appointment...i know know I should have searched for a different doctor at a different facility that could have properly taken care of my needs. For him to not take me on as a patient is one thing. But to be treated so poorly and without even given some sort of direction as to what step to take next in order to get my proper medications was devastating to say the least. I waited over an hour and 20 minutes for my appointment to notice that he scheduled 5 other patients at the same time for appointments as well. The only thing this doctor is out for is people's money and insurance money and getting people in and out. Not to mention the lack of regard for the human being or their mental state in general. I have been to numerous different facilities and I have never been treated like this in my life. I give a negative 10 out of 10 for anyone that chooses to go see this doctor. I have also put in a Call to his superiors in which I have gotten no response what so ever. And this is all on top of the fact that I didn't get made eye contact with once duing our entire Appointment. This guy is a scam. And if you want an actual compassionate doctor who understands his profession and is willing to help patients then this is not the person for you. Wait the extra time who cares what insurance you have. Go to your primary if you need your prescriptions in the meantime and make the right choice for your mental professional. I wish I could rate zero stars. After being released from the hospital after 5 long weeks for severe panic disorder I met with Dr. Tissera. He spent 4 minutes with me and wrote a quick RX and dismissed me. The next 3 times I went for my appointment were the same. The reason why I feel it's important to write this review is so patients know this man could leave you in a dangerous situation. I went for my monthly appointment in the beginning of December and left with my RX for both of my medications (not a controlled substance, Zoloft, Lamictal). A few days later I called to make my appointment for the beginning of January but found the office closed for the holiday as no one answered daily. I managed to get through the holiday with medication and called first thing January 2nd when the office reopened. I informed the front desk that my prescriptions were running out January 4th and needed to come in right away. She told me that the next appointment was NEXT TUESDAY at 5:30pm. I explained to her that I needed to come in ASAP but would dr. Tissera be able to call in a RX for just 7 days as I wouldn't have any medication until then. The women informed me that he doesn't call in any refills unless you come in. I begged and begged her to help me and stressed the importance of this medication being in my system as I have severe panic disorder which causes catastrophic panic attacks and blackouts. She suggested I come sit in the waiting room ALL day and the doctor could possibly squeeze me in but she could not guarantee he would have a few minutes for me. In absolute horror I called my primary care doctor and informed them that was psychiatrist was unable to call medication in for me and the first available appointment was next Tuesday at 5:30 ( that's 6 days without medication). My primary care doctor at Beth Isreal hospital was in shock. She explained that they typically don't refill such a high dose of a medication that's prescribed from a psychiatrist but understood the side effects of abruptly stopping 2 medications. My PCP immediately faxed 2 prescription to my pharmacy. Later in the day I realized that my PCP had sent one RX but the other was a different medication. Beth Isreal was now closed for the evening. The next morning with only one day left in my medication I called Dr. Tissera's office and explained my primary had filled one RX for me but I still needed Zoloft. I begged the secretary to see if he could give me enough until my appointment the next week, she reinforced that he doesn't do any refills without seeing the patient. I called my PCP again and they sent the Zoloft RX to the pharmacy immediately. I yet again called Dr. Tissera's office to switch my appointment with him and see the nurse practitioner instead. Later in the evening I received a voicemail from his office stating that they spoke to the doctor again and he will not refill a controlled substance RX without seeing patients. This doctor is so uneducated that he is unaware that Lamictal and Zoloft are NOT controlled substances (Beth Isreal hospital confirmed they are NOT controlled substances). He would prefer me to stop taking my medication abruptly, rather than send a RX over. I spent 32 days in the hospital this summer due to my panic disorder and the damage my panic attacks were doing to the inside of my body. By me stopping these medication for a week could possibly bring my panic attacks back. I spent the past two days in tears due to my own psychiatrist declining me my very much needed medication. I could see his rule of needing to see patients if the medication I was asking for was anything addicting or used to get high from but both of these medication are simply mood stabilizers. Had my primary care not helped me I honestly don't know what would of happened to me. Please beware of Dr. Tissera as well as his awful staff at the front desk. I do not plan on every making an appointment with him again, I will be sticking with the nurse practitioner only. This man needs to go back to school as I believe he is too old to be practicing. Please do not visit this doctor if you are looking for a doctor to help you with your mental health. read more

This Man is Psychiatrist who is SO timid GOD FORBID you're in anything but a good mood. First meeting he treated me poorly because he thought I was late so he made me wait an other hour before he saw me and chastised me for being late, which I wasn't . Beware you may think you are having a conversation with him but he ain't listening. Second meeting - had to run to 3 ATM's because the office hasn't quite come into the 20th century as far as paying goes. He had no idea who I was. He had no idea he gave me updated medication plan. I got upset and he accused me of insulting him and told me he'd never see me again. I asked him to at least update my meds. 3 clicks of a mouse automating over. Said I'd get my money back and then changed his mind. This is a Psychiatrist who will gladly leave you in the lurch with no one to take care of your medication. I say pass over this guy. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Tissera for about two years. He was the only psychiatrist my then-current psychiatrist was willing to recommend when he retired after a very successful 30+ year relationship. To be honest, I had doubts. How do you replace a doctor who you have had such a good working relationship with for so long? However, I liked Dr. Tissera immediately. First and foremost (at least for me), he has great respect for a patient's intellect and he never talks down to you. He does expect you to actively participate in your treatment but, when you do, he takes your ideas very seriously. Furthermore, he's never hesitant to change treatments if the current one is not having the hoped-for results. You'll never hear him say: "The current treatment will work because I prescribed it and I'm the expert. Your views are not particularly useful." Instead, he seems to leave his ego at his office door and genuinely wants a back-and-forth conversation with you about how things are going. Unlike some doctors, he never acts like a dictator where it's his way or the highway. So remember to be prepared to fully discuss your condition, including the results of your current treatment because Dr. Tissera does not like to just dispense treatment advice with little information to go on. Add in the fact that Dr. Tissera has a very wry sense of humor and the knowledge to talk about a lot of things and you have a winner. Oh and I noticed some criticism of the office staff. This was one of the dumbest things I've ever read. The staff is always very professional and pleasant. They make sure your discussions with them are kept private and they don't waste any of your time. They are quick to smile--even at my bad jokes. They are also very courteous and efficient over the phone when I have had to call. read more
