It has been years since my bad experience with La Mancha, so why write now? Just yesterday I heard another bad story from a stranger I met at Pet Smart. Through the years story after story has been negative, which is so sad to hear from a rescue. I've had very good luck over the years with my rescues except for the one from La Mancha. As with others, they did not stand by their adoptions and would not take back an aggressive dog. Others have had exactly the same issues. At first glance you drive in and it looks fabulous. It is a beautiful location and seems to be a loving atmosphere filled with wonderful volunteers. I could go on with story after story, but with SO many wonderful rescues in the area (Greenmore, Lucky Dawg, Justice Rescue, All 4 Paws, Providence Animal Center, etc.) LaMancha is the last place I would ever recommend. It certainly seems much more "for profit" than a place that truly wants to help animals. Yes, I know some have had good experiences, I just know that many, including myself, did not have the great outcome we had hoped it would be. read more

I had heard and read about Lamancha and was expecting a great experience there. It was at first but I soon discovered it was not a good experience. I feel that it was expected of me to adopt no matter what & fast. I was also treated like I was inept of walking a dog, telling me don't go here, don't go there, watch this, and that and was told twice about putting the walking rope ring on my wrist I am not a 2 yr old and I have had dogs I realize they have a job to do and are watching out fo the welfare of the dogs But such a big turn off and took the joy out of my day I walked away without a dog and I could see and feel a complete annoyance that I didn't adopt She was trying to make me feel guilty by telling me that the dogs i was interested in would be a good dog for me First of all she doesn't know me, 2nd she wasn't hardly around to see how it was going She showed no empathy at all when she seen how upset I was. If her and the other one showed more heart for potential adopters then maybe more dogs would get adopted there. She also told me how the adoptions were low and that people come and walk away without adopting Well change your attitude and maybe you will get more adoptions Don't guilt trip people with that I don't take adopting lightly, I want to be sure the pup is a good match for me and vice versa So their whole demeaner changed as soon as I decided not to adopt I guess i was taking too long to decide, well too bad And Jeff I heard your comment when i was having trouble with the rope leash(not really a leash) saying "she doesn't know how to put it on??" I figured it out without your help and I noticed your disgusted look at me! If things and circumstances there are making you feel unhappy there then maybe its time to quit and find something else to do with your time. I did talk to some really nice volunteers there This in no way a reflection on you! I am so disappointed about my experience there and how i felt about everything I have read all the good reviews and really wish that would have happened for me!! read more

We adopted a shepherd that was advertised as gentle, good with kids, good with other animals, spayed and good family dog. All of this was untrue. We discovered that Lamancha only had this Shepherd for 1 day. They adopted this dog out knowing nothing about the dog and put people in potential harm. We are working hard to rehabilitate her and have professional trainers that are costing money we didn't budget for. Each trainer and vets have listed her as aggressive and fear/anxiety driven aggression. I did contact Lamancha and was emailed a list of trainers they recommended. One wanted $450 to evaluate our dog. I thank God we adopted her before she ended up in a home with children. read more

I can't say enough wonderful comments about our dog adoption experiences at La Mancha in the past six years. in 2017, we adopted a 3 year old Great Pyrenees. Everyone at La Mancha was helpful, knowledgeable, and kind. We took Sage home with us and still have him. The staff had evaluated him perfectly. He got along great with our two tiny poodles, on site, so we could see them all interact . That is important! Fast forward to August, 2023, and we just adopted a toy poodle who was turned in to La Mancha by a caring delivery truck driver who found her by a dumpster. She is old, but we don't care. We're giving her a second chance at life and we'll give her the best life she can imagine. She gets along just fine with our old Pyr and our 6 year old poodle. Everyone at La Mancha made it easy for us to adopt her. We will always go there first to rescue a dog who needs a good life. The animals are treated so well and the volunteers and staff care deeply about the animals' lives. I'll sing La Mancha's praises every day of the week for the rest of my life. We've had eleven dogs now in 39 years , and two have been from La Mancha. Best dogs ever. Best staff ever. La Mancha is the best rescue I've ever seen. Dru Campbell runs things the way I would if I owned it. The animals are so well cared for and loved. They have a huge volunteer staff and they find the best homes for animals in their care. I can't say enough good things about them! Definitely support them and adopt from them. They are magnificent people doing wonderful things!!!! I send practically all of my dogs from here in Arkansas to them because I know they will be cared for and will find loving homes that I wouldn't be able to find here in the south. read more

Since 2009, we've adopted three dogs from LaMancha. One puppy and two young dogs-both of which resided at the rescue over a year each. Both of which were and are the most amazing, well cared for, well adjusted sweethearts. I can't say enough about the love our dogs received while in their care and beyond. The staff and volunteers showed our dogs nothing but devotion. Even years after adopting our second dog from them, staff remembered him and shared stories from his time there. Our most recent adoption was also a staff favorite- had an horrific early life and still remains a sweet, lovely dog. I know this is because of the care she received at LaMancha. The volunteers and staff of Lamancha made our adoption experience exceptionally smooth and pleasant! We visited on a Saturday and there was quite a hustle and bustle on the farm! Friendly dogs walked about as well as the occasional cat and chicken. We were quickly introduced to our potential new family member and were given plenty of time to make our decision. I was very impressed with how patient and accommodating they were while we allowed our dog to meet and get to know the dog we adopted. Right away we were led to a field for the dogs to play and relax off leash. After that we were given plenty of time to walk the beautiful grounds and feel out her personality. The volunteers were knowledgeable and very helpful with informing us of Juneau's background and what they knew about her attitude. Upon deciding to adopt, we were given her UTD shots papers, a microchip for the vet to insert as well as a coupon for a free wellness check at Sugartown Vet. It is clear that the people working with these animals are passionate about finding good homes for them. It was truly a pleasant experience especially with everyone's excitement for Juneau joining our family. This optimism was deeply appreciated and so far Juneau is the very sweet girl they described! I have never visited Lamancha, but we had to return a dog my husband had previously adopted from Lamancha because the dog was too aggressive and not only attempted to bite me several times, he eventually did end up attacking and biting me. The dog clearly has behavioral issues that weren't dealt with and I knew that he wouldn't be safe to keep around. After my husband returned the dog, I reached out to Lamancha to see if we could get any photos or videos they take as my husband was completely heartbroken in having to return the dog. Dru responded quite rudely to me saying that they only took the dog back because of the contract, not because "he was an inconvenience." Being attacked by a dog is NOT simply an inconvenience. The dog is still being advertised for adoption with a very short, basic description, using none of the language my husband emailed to Lamancha to use and they are clearly purposely trying to mislead people to thinking the dog is good with adults and kids. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Do not adopt from Lamancha because they will lie just to get their money's worth and the dogs out of there. I have been around many dogs, have even volunteered at animal shelters and worked at a vet clinic, and I never experienced problematic behavior like that from a dog. The staff is incredible, the facilities are amazing and their pups are... what can I say beautiful. I wish all rescues operated this way, kind caring and compassionate. I'm a professional trainer and am appalled at this rescue! They adopted out a dog who was so aggressive that he could not be examined except at a distance. Without any knowledge of his age, they randomly assigned him the age of two and neutered him and send right out. In their contract, they had the new owner sign an agreement that does not guarantee health or temperament and requires the new owner to be in charge of euthanizing if the dog "becomes vicious." My client attempted to remove an empty bowl from his dog's crate and the dog bite him so severely that he required a visit to emergency room, a tetanus shot and antibiotics. The bite was a level four, meaning the dog grabbed his arm, leaving deep punctures and bruising, and did not let go. In using his other hand to get the dog off, that hand was bitten as well. Given that rescue could not even examine this dog, they had reason to know that he was aggressive. I DO NOT advice getting animals here. If you do, and pay their hefty adoption price, you are on your own. read more

Be very careful by trying to do the right thing and rescue a dog from LaMancha. While you are in discussion with them to adopt you will get replied to rather quickly but that will change when you have an issue with the rescue. We were told the dog we were adopting was great with other dogs and kids as he was the "go to dog" for new rescues. Sadly when we got him home within a few hours we knew the rescue had issues and it began when I brought out dinner, he was very aggressive towards me and there was no way to control his actions. Whenever food was involved he turned into a mean dog and would bite if he had the chance. He tried to bite my son a few times and even tried to bite me when I was putting on a harness. So I knew we had to return him and got in contact with LaMancha about relinquishing him back to them. At first I was receiving emails back and told I needed to wait for kennel space, in the meantime my son and wife were afraid of this dog as he was unpredictable in his actions, simply going to the bathroom was an issue for them if he was patrolling the hallway. He wouldn't let anyone near me as he was protecting me from them. Finally after 2 weeks of waiting I was able to return him back to LaMancha only to be welcomed with a very horrible attitude from Dru (see a pattern with other reviews). She made a rather unnecessary comment that he would have to be put down if he's aggressive yet when I was starting the adoption process he was a great, friendly dog, she could have kept that to herself but she is a rather rude person. Lastly please be certain that the animal you are rescuing will be a fit for your family, it's hard to tell until you get them home and see how they are but if you have to return them you WILL NOT receive any money back from LaMancha which is BS in my opinion as they misrepresented his behavior. This has soured me on trying to do the right thing and rescue an animal in need. read more

They staff were patient and kind. The descriptions of the dogs are somewhat optimistic. Dog I went to see was listed as "shy" but was in fact terrified of humans. I ended up with a puppy. Be forewarned, that you pay more for a puppy upfront to LaMancha, and then depending upon age, you also pay for their vaccinations and spay/neutering vs. an adult dog that has all of that. So it's more like $1500 for the puppy. Most other rescues I had been looking at pay for ALL the vaccinations and the spay/neutering for roughly the same cost as LaMancha. A wonderful place, filled with loving volunteers who are dedicated to finding homes for all of the animals. They are not just kennel numbers, each are individuals with their own personalities and backgrounds. They rescue from all over the country, so sometimes all that is available is the animal's current demeanor and volunteer observations. Dogs that are sick get treatment. Dogs that are shy/abused/neglected get that extra special time to help them come out of their shell and heal. Dogs that need to learn some manners get positive reinforcement when they do well. Then there is play time in the fields, which is always a favorite! Since it is volunteer based, you do need an approved application and an appointment to visit. This is so there is time for the volunteers to take care of everyone before appointments so they can spend as much time as needed to help you find your new family member. I would highly recommend adopting from them. read more

We were looking for a small dog and found at La Mancha a 3 year old Jack Russell Terrier. The description on the website indicated the sex (male) age and a very basic description of the dog as friendly, housebroken and a Cairn Terrier. The adoption fee was $400. After briefly meeting the dog and signing a document, we decided to adopt the dog. The ride home was uneventful, arriving home and after a walk ( the dog did relieve himself during the walk), brought the dog in the house, where it promptly relieved itself again! Minor accident we decided. We took the dog to the local Pet Smart and bought item and food and bed for the dog. All seemed good, but shortly there after things changed. It was rainy that night when once again I took the dog out for a walk. Once back in the house, I got a towel to dry the dog. Knowing it recently had been to the vet to be neutered, I was carful while drying off the dog. However something cause to dog to become very agitated and it attacked at me, nearly biting me. Things seemed to calm quickly, but at time the dog would growl at my wife because she was gently petting the dog. Once again the dog became agitated, and lunged at my wife and nipped her hand, breaking the skin! Now we became a bit concerned about the dogs attitude...not seeming friendly at all. We were not able to buy a cage at the pet store, so we had planned to have the dog sleep in the laundry room, but the dog was constantly barking and scratching. Reluctantly the dog was I the bedroom. Over night was fine, but in the morning the dog multiple time tried to attack my wife until I was able to remove the dog with a leash. At that point we contacted the shelter and indicated that we want to bring back the dog. We got an appointment time to return the dog. I had asked if any of the adoption fee could be refunded and was told I would be contacted. I have not been contacted in a 24 hr period. When asking about the dog, we were promptly contacted. I feel that we were misled about the "friendliness" of the dog. We think this dog may had been mistreated (not by LaMancha) sometime in its short life and the dog had definite issues that were not determined by La Mancha. We had the dog for less than 24 hours.....certainly not worth the $400 paid. I had indicated to the volunteer worker and also sent an email to the owners of La Mancha that I would be willing to make a portion of the adoption fee as a donation, but as stated they have not contacted me about my request. read more

Let me start by saying I have shared my home with dogs almost my entire life. We have purchased pedigreed dogs, and adopted from county shelters and 3 different rescue orgs. Through experience we know every dog's health and behavior is different. We were looking ro rescue a dog this past spring and found LaMancha through Petfinder. We saw a pup on their site described as a Lab mix and enquired. They responded immediately and told us the pup we were interested in was adopted but there were others in his litter. The application process was easy and they contacted our references right away. Alexis worked with us in making an appointment to fit our schedule I was glad they insisted that we bring our older dog with us. The 5 puppies remaining from the litter were all clean and well cared for.We were told right away that they did not know the birth mom, therefore breed and temperament were not known. Alexis also let us know the puppies were dewormed but would very possibly need to be dewormed again due to the fact they lived on a farm. The pups seemed healthy but she was very upfront about not being able to provide a health guarantee. Again, as life- long dog owners we understood and appreciated the honesty. We brought him home on Saturday and took him to our vet on Monday. She said he was amazing! He is truly a special boy and our entire family loves him. We know this could have gone a very different way and frankly has for us in the past. When you rescue a dog, you are delving into the unknown. We are glad there are places like LaMancha doing this difficult work and we wanted to share our positive experience. read more

I adopted my fur kid in July 2015. She is adorable but that's beside the point. What I have found out about LaMancha since then is that there are people working 24/7 to do the best they can with animals no one else can care for. The cats are taken care of by wonderful people that clean their area and adore them. They take note of any medical issues that need attention. The horses, pigs, goats, chickens, etc are well taken care of. I guess everyone wants to know about the dogs. All I can say is there is a devoted staff that tries their best to handle each dog's needs. I have seen this first hand. They address issues and try to change inappropriate behaviors. There are dogs that greet you when you pull in and I don't know of any issues with them. They all seem friendly and show no aggression. I really don't understand how anyone could fault this rescue. They are doing the very best they can do and I look forward to bringing another fur kid into my home. I guess sometimes people don't realize what a rescue may look like but be assured there are people working in freezing cold, extreme heat and all weather in between to make sure these animals are loved, fed and sheltered. I think people should do their homework before they comment because this is heaven on earth for these animals. Please know everything is done with love and only the best of intentions. read more

We'll tell our story in full, but here's another person's Google review that nails it in just four sentences:"There's something very odd about this place. They are willing to lie, manipulate, and make wild accusations. There is a spiritual deficit here. Completely inconsistent with what one would associate with care for animals." Now here's our story and why that review resonated. As soon as we got to La Mancha, we got nothing but the hard sell on "Charlie," an adult dog we hadn't mentioned to them or included among the dogs we listed on our application. Charlie was supposedly attacked the day before (he had a wound on his mouth), although looking back later, we realized he probably instigated the fight and might have been sedated while with us--he barely acknowledged us. So he was an odd dog to choose, but the sales lady strongly recommended him so we took him home, but not before first providing information that should have made it clear he wasn't right for us--that we'd never had a dog before so didn't know how to train one, that a close relative's dog sometimes stays with us, that we would walk him in nearby parks, that our 13-year old would do most of the walks, and that our street is full of dogs, including two Labs that normally sit at the edge of our property. The problem was that Charlie went ballistic whenever other dogs got close--he growled, barked, fought with every muscle against the leash and looked as though he wanted to tear the other dogs apart. For us to keep him, we would have needed to limit his outside time, avoid parks, use specialized kennels, tell family members with dogs that they can't visit, etc. Two days after taking Charlie home, we let La Mancha know the adoption wouldn't work, and we then fielded a ridiculous call from the person (Alexis) who had handled the contract and taken our "donation." Alexis immediately blamed us for taking him for a walk (!), then blamed us for doing various things she claimed we must have done to set him off (nonsense--the mere presence of another dog triggers him to attack), then claimed he had never done anything like that before, then contradicted herself by insisting she had advised us NOT to take him because he's "dog aggressive," so it was our fault for making the wrong choice. In fact, she had advised no such thing, and the sales lady (Debby) never once mentioned that Charlie was dog aggressive--she only said he wasn't "good with other dogs," which we took to mean he wasn't social. (To her credit, Debby called us separately to apologize. She expressed no surprise about Charlie's behavior, even saying she understood he wouldn't work for us, but she also stressed that she couldn't determine the next steps--that would be up to the honchos.) In the meantime, we found a family with three acres of rural land that wanted to take Charlie, aggression and all. So we gave La Mancha that news and then promptly received an email from the owner (Dru) threatening legal action, since our contract stipulated that their dogs have to go back to them. Ostensibly La Mancha writes their contracts like that so they can check references on prospective new owners, but it's clearly a money making tactic--when Charlie's prospective new owner contacted La Mancha to say she wanted him, she was told she would have to make a donation. Instead of being happy that we'd found Charlie a good home and staying out of the way (we never brought him back to La Mancha), they insisted that the change in ownership couldn't occur unless they were paid twice for the same dog. Essentially, they demanded two payments for one sale, or else Charlie would be SOL. Meanwhile, we were out $300 for our donation plus $200 in items (crate, leash, food, etc.) we gave the new owner out of appreciation and so Charlie would have a smooth transition. Of course, Dru never told us about the extra donation--the legal threat noted above was the only communication we received from her. She didn't respond personally to any of our questions or complaints, even when we directed them at her. But that's far from everything potential customers should know about Dru. Ideally, La Mancha would disclose Dru's citation for violating dog laws--search on "Daily Local June 20 2017 Mark Uschold" for the report. The Daily Local identified Uschold as a former La Mancha volunteer who stole dogs that La Mancha placed with new owners despite Dru telling the police she hadn't seen them--that is, until Uschold confessed and Dru had no choice but to reverse her story. In case you're reminded of a certain Disney movie, yup, Uschold was caught after reports of his van being seen near the stolen dogs' home. So is it just "Dru" or "Druella de Coatesville?" Seriously, in many professions people would be barred for life if caught trafficking in stolen property and then lying about it. So before doing business with these common crooks, we suggest heeding the negative reviews and police reports. We only wish we had done that. read more

Amazing and loving place! Tons of adorable creatures for adoption.

I am not sure how anyone could have a bad experience with this place.Both of our dogs are from here and I have to say both were completely healthy and well adjusted. They are a little disorganized and no one is necessarily there to greet you and show you around but I also liked that no one was breathing down our necks. They let me crawl in the cage with our first dog and we played with our 2nd for at least 30 minutes before we knew he was coming home with us. Yes we got both as puppies so its up to you as the owner to train correctly. But we never had trouble with either of our dogs health. In fact I can't count how many people have asked me where I got our dogs. read more

We adopted our border collie 13 1/2 years ago from LaMancha. We were very happy with the way we were treated. We went to LaMancha and told them what we were looking for. They brought out 6 puppies and put them in a pen for us to play with and look over. We chose 1 and thought about a 2nd, but decided 1 was enough. We are already thinking ahead for when we lose our border collie. We will probably check out LaMancha again. read more

If you don't want your heart broken don't go here. They post pictures of pets and ask you to fill out a form prior to even showing you a pet. If someone else comes in physically before before you fill out the form. They get the dog. They never informed us the pet was being sought after by someone else. Look, glad the dog was adopted. Let me make some clarifications to the owner Of LaMancha's comments regarding my bad experience with this shelter and the director. NO ONE (not a volunteer or Alexis) told us that that was an ATM machine right up the street. The shelter is located out in the middle of farm country. No address or phone number is given to you until they approve your application. When I inquired about change, I was told that if we don't have the exact change that I'm sorry but we would have to go get it. We were never told that they take a check. Alexis exact words to us were, "we are a cash only business." Secondly regarding the directors remark that they encourage new owners to bring back their dog to be seen by the shelters vet. She said: "Kennels have kennel cough like children in classrooms have head colds. No matter how clean or careful, it happens. That is why we encourage all our adopters to bring back a dog that shows signs of illness in the first week or so, and we will have it treated by our vet" This is a total lie. No one told us that, not Alexis when I called to tell her about the kennel cough 48 hours after adopting our dog. Nor did the director. In fact when I called the director that Friday (less then a week after adopting the dog) when we were told that she probably wouldn't make it, the director said nothing to me about bring the dog back to be treated by their vet. All she said to me was the dog was healthy when my wife and I adopted the dog. And that she is sorry, but there was nothing she would do. She said if we wanted we could return the dog, but she would not refund our money or give anything towards any medical bills." To see the director's comments saying the opposite are just an outright lie. I wouldn't have such a negative review of this place if what she said was actually true. The fact of the matter is its not. Considering the state of health our dog was in when we brought it home there is no way I would give it back to them. Why would I? So they can neglect the dog, let it get worse, and then try and get another $275 from someone else? There are over 20 negative reviews of this place on yelp. Almost all tell of some similar horror story in dealing with this shelter. And there are only 2 positive reviews of this place. I think that speaks for itself. This place cares only about the money they get off selling these dogs from Kentucky. read more

Unfortunately I had to surrender my mother's two cats because of her health. She would be moving in with me and I could not take them in. I wanted them to go to the best situation possible. I had emailed, text and called at least 30 different cat rescues and sanctuary and the common answer was No, we are full. When I emailed Lamancha, I was sure the answer would be no, but I got an answer back! Dru God Bless her, heard my story and made an acception. When I brought the cats, I was met immediately by caring and knowledgeable volunteers who made accommodations for my fur babies. Beds, water, food, toys everything. They answered all my questions and assured me they would be well taken care of. The facility is clean, the grounds are beautiful and cats are lounging here and there, looking plump and happy. I am writing this because I love animals and have heard horror stories about the treatment of dogs. When a group claims to be passionate about saving the lives of dogs, I expect that when I am willing to open my home to one of their more than 20 puppies listed on their website, they are eager and willing. I was practically ignored by them and when I tried to inquire about the status of my application, the lady was very offputting and rude. I went to another rescue days later, and they were exactly as I would expect a rescue to be, passionate, grateful people who jump at the opportunity to provide a good home for a dog. I later found out that the rescue was very busy.. why couldnt they say that rather than treating me like dirt and ignoring me? Bottom line, you have many choices of whom you adopt a dog from, so pick a rescue that doesnt treat you like dirt. CHEER UP LAMANCHA! read more

We had a very good experience at La Mancha Rescue. We visited with the intention of getting to know the rescue better, but not necessarily adopting. We first met Alexis, who was business like and firm with our children to stay with us. This was understandable. We then met Jen, a long-term volunteer. She introduced us patiently to several dogs. However, she knew they were not a good fit for a large family with small children. We then met Murphy, a sweet German Shepherd cross. She let us spend two hours with Murphy in an enclosed yard. He was sweet with the children, playful and not barking or jumping. Needless to say, we took him home with us and he has been a great fit. He has a 100% clean bill of health. The facility is clean and well-ordered. It is alive and lively with animals and volunteers. We would adopt there again. read more

We loved our Lamancha rescue experience and happily are settling Maddie (originally Snow Bear) into her forever home! Lamancha guided us through the adoption process seamlessly. My mom adopted a dog from there. Within 24 hours, she realized that the dog was not right for her. It was both too soon after losing her beloved boxer and she would not be able to use her mobility scooter to walk this new dog as she had with the one she had recently lost. We notified them within 24 hours that the dog was not a good fit. They asked if we could hold onto the dog for a few days, which we did. When the dog was returned, they refused to give any kind of refund, partial or otherwise. When asked about some type of credit to choose another dog when the pain of loosing her boxer was not so fresh, she was told no. They would like the public to see them as showing compassion to animals. In my opinion, they showed none to my mother. read more

My Lamancha Experience :( They stated one adoption fee on application and then charged us 50.00 more. Gave no papers with the animal. When asked about recouping some of the fee after neutering and seeing vet, they said yes, but didn't give any written information regarding this. There was no warm place to read the paperwork we had to sign so I ended up only reading the first paragraph because I didn't want to leave the volunteer out in the cold while I was in my car. The car was full of family and dog. Big mistake. Other issues too. Not room here to go into it. Many other shelters and rescues offer animals that are microchipped, spayed/neutered, and vetted. We went home with an animal that they could not show had any of this done. There are lots of great shelters and rescues out there. We will make sure we do our research and use one of them in the future! read more

Do not believe any of the positive reviews as they are most likely by the owner themselves and NOT by the actual families who have adopted the animals from this location. They are NOT truthful and only care about the money received from the animals you rescued from them. DO NOT BELIEVE that the animals are actually chipped or have been neutered/spayed. Additionally, the animals aren't all treated as well as they purport and are typically aggressive in nature. The owners are awful people. The only thing I am grateful for is that I actually rescued our dog from these horrid people. I was told that my dog was spayed and chipped only to find out she was neither. When it was brought up to the owners, instead of their promise to compensate for at least half for spaying and micro-chipping, they were belligerent and defensive and refused to pay. THIS IS NOT A GOOD PLACE. Go somewhere else who actually care for the animals that they say they rescue. I pray that the remaining animals in this horrible place be removed to a better facility. read more

We got our dog from here about 3 months ago. He's wonderful! LaMancha let us come and introduce our other dog to him and let us all spend about an hour together on their beautiful property. They were very nice and let me ask as many questions as I needed to. The application process was pretty quick too unlike some of the other rescues we reached out to. Pretty cool they have other pets besides dogs. What a great organization. We'll definitely use them again in the future. read more

Love love love them! We adopted a lab/rottie mix this past fall and he is the sweetest, funniest, loving-est dog ever! The volunteers are very dedicated, and really try to work with those animals that have had a rough life. They are no-kill and are very passionate about their animals. read more

We adopted our dog from LaMancha over a year ago. And while I would not trade her for anything, I certainly would not go back to LaMancha. We had originally contacted them about another dog. As we lived in another state, we called the night before we were going up to confirm that the dog was still up for adoption. They said she was. Next morning, we drove to PA only to discover that she had been adopted the day before. As they had so many dogs, we decided to look around. We shared that it was very important to us to have a dog that did well with people and children as we lived in a very active neighborhood. Our story is similar to Kathy L. Adoption Fee was $350, was told that she had previous medical issues including a past ear infection, and happy tail, all of which she was treated for and cleared of any health issues on the papers they provided. On our way home, we stopped to get her a bath and her paw started bleeding. Apparently she had a laceration on her paw that was impacted with dirt and once she was bathed it opened it up. We took her to the vet the next day....$2600 later - she still had an ear infection and needed antibiotic, her tail was infected from her "previous happy tail" and had to be amputed AND she had lacerations on her paws that needed stitched. I contacted LaMancha to share that I was disappointed in the fact that they disclosed she had a clean bill of health and asked for our adoption fee to be refunded to help support the vet payment for the medical attention she should have been receiving. They said they would only pay $100 towards the ear infection bill and would only do so once my check cleared. My check cleared that Monday and guess what, never got the money from them...nor any response to emails. Then we came to find out that she did not want people in our house outside of us and certainly did not like children other than my son. Our neighbors were scared of her and she growled and barked when someone came near us. My son who was 8 could not have friends over. We spent another $2,000 in specialized dog training to help with these behaviors. I will say a year later, she is a different dog and we continue to love her dearly. I just feel duped by this Rescue as they did not provide full disclosure of information. read more

Enter this property at your own risk. Seriously. I was invited by the owner to discuss business, and she gave me no warning what to expect. She wouldn't even give us a number to call her ahead of time. This may have been helpful since when I showed up, I was attacked by 4 or 5 angry dogs. I walked up the door to knock on it and introduce myself, and the flimsy screen door flew open and 2 dogs came out and began barking at me. I had to keep my foot against the door to prevent 3 more from coming out. One bit me and ripped my jeans. When I finally made a run for it to my car, I drove to the other end of the property to confront the owner. Dru was unapologetic, and was even defensive, acting like I was the crazy one for having the issue with being bitten by her dogs. This is a lawsuit waiting to happen. read more

Beware! We were first time adopters looking for help and received no guidance. As many reviewers said, when we saw our dog it was freezing and getting dark, no indoor or enclosed area to get to know him, no volunteer helped with information about the dog. Dog was cute as can be, kids fell in love, we adopted what we thought was a "neutered, UTD with shots" 1 year old lab mix. After one day at home, dog bit me badly. We took him to the vet, turns out he was not neutered or UTD with any shots except for rabies. Of course, LaMancha quickly cashed our check and we were out not only our $300 donation, but $250 vet bill and $1000 ER visit bill. Tried for several days to bond with dog, continued growling and being agressive. Had to return, no apologies or contact from La Mancha. Beware of what you are getting into. read more

Can I give this place minus five stars? My mother left her cat at this rescue because she could no longer keep her. She paid them their fee, and left her crate and veterinary papers. She went back to check on her in a week, and they had LOST her. We had been told they kept the cats inside and occasionally let the cats out to a FENCED area, but apparently not. They took her money, but did not take care of her cat. When we wrote to say how disappointed we were, they responded with a nasty letter saying it was our fault for abandoning her! read more
