My husband and I went on at the same day but at different times. He came home to tell me he loved the office and planned on also buying his frames there. Originally we were going to purchase frames online. Their selection is great and reasonable! The office staff is so sweet and welcoming and neither of us had to wait. Linda did my initial screenings and she was so pleasant and knew what she was doing. Dr. Orr is absolutely amazing. He went over all my scans in detail and was very easy to work with while finding the correct rx for my eyes. When I worked with the young man on frames, he went above and beyond. He actually picked out the frames I purchased and while they are a designer brand, very reasonably priced. I'm very excited to get my new glasses! My kids go in a couple weeks! read more

Amazing team and service! It was really easy to make an appointment and they have really convenient hours even for 9-5ers like myself. I received my most awesome and thorough eye exam ever, and I felt so comfortable, not rushed, or like I was wasting anyone's time. I have been going to Lamorinda Optometry for DECADES. I now live in another state and when I know I am flying into the San Francisco Bay Area, I make an appointment with Lamorinda Optometry. I had seen Dr. Baker for ages, but he retired. However, Doctors Wong and Orr are exceptional. I really appreciate their detailed explanations of the state of my vision as I am in my early 70s and have the usual concerns about the affect of aging on my eyesight. read more

After years of reading Yelp reviews this is the first one I've actually taken the time to write and it is Dr. Orr that inspired it! I've had dry eye issues for a long time likely due to two LASIK surgeries including a corrective touch up done two years ago that really exacerbated the situation. Recently my eyes had become so dry that they were literally red where they should be white, despite frequently using moisturizing eye drops. At about 2 pm on a Friday I realized they were SO bad that there as no way I could go to the wedding id planned to attend the following day...it seemed like I had an infection. I started searching for eye doctors on Yelp and Lamorinda Optometrics came up with some good reviews. I quickly researched Dr. Orr and saw that he went to Cal and was the number one student in his graduating class. Impressive. I was familiar with his office, having bought prescription sunglasses there a few yrs ago. I immediately called to plead for an emergency/squeeze-in appointment. Stella took my call and was amazing. She listened carefully, asked questions and made it clear she wanted to fully understood the situation, taking notes that she would share with the doctor to see what they could do on a busy Friday afternoon. She called back as promised in five minutes and said to come right down and they would somehow make it happen. I couldn't believe it ... I honestly cannot recall a medical office ever being so intent upon helping out in a desperate situation like this, especially when I hadn't been there in a few years. I was seen almost immediately upon arrival. First a work up by the excellent staff who were kind enough to spare me the air-puff test when I couldn't relax enough to get my eyes to stop watering. (Dr. Orr personally did it at end of my appt). Dr. Orr then thoroughly examined my eyes, concluding that while they were as dry as eyes could be, he didn't see signs of an infection. My eyes were simply reacting to the ongoing dryness, worsened by recent eyelid surgery. He determined that one eye didn't fully close every time I blinked, leaving it particularly irritated. Dr. Orr knew exactly what to do...he provided me the most useful eye drops I have ever used, a medicated drop that was both a strong anti inflammatory and contained a mild antibiotic. He gave careful instructions on their use, and directed me to call him immediately if I had any sort of painful or blurred vision type of reaction. He also introduced me to a type of single use eye drops which are exponentially more viscous than the OTC Refresh plus drops I'd been using, and therefore much longer lasting. They're called "Oasis." At the start of my appointment, I had asked Dr. Orr about tear duct plugs I recently read about as a possible long term solution to chronically dry eyes. He was knowledgeable on the topic. By the end of the appointment he agreed I would be a good candidate for these. We made a follow up appointment for Tuesday to check on my eyes and evaluate me for the duct plugs. My eyes were noticeably better by bedtime that night. Dr. Orr called me twice the next morning to see how my eyes were doing -- I didn't hear my phone so missed his first call and voicemail...but he tried again before I noticed the message. He was genuinely concerned and asked a lot of questions, then reminded me that the drops were powerful and shouldn't be used any longer than necessary. I happily reported that my eyes were nearly clear and felt a lot better with the Oasis drops he'd recommended. Off to the wedding I went, thanks to Dr. Orr. At my follow up appointment, Dr. Orr determined that the smallest duct plugs he had on hand were too small for my eyes. He had spent considerable time with me trying to see if they would work before reaching this conclusion. He even agreed to try to insert the plug into the other eye even though he likely knew it wouldn't work. He was patient and extremely knowledgeable; we discussed other treatments to be used in conjunction or in lieu of, if the duct plugs didn't completely resolve the issue. I wasn't charged for the visit and was told his staff would contact me when the smaller size came in. I can't wait to try these and have complete confidence that if they do not work as hoped Dr. Orr will find what does work. Highly recommend this office and Dr. Orr in particular. read more

I had a 5:45 pm appt, was told it would take an hour. Imagine my surprise when I got done at 7:45 (and I had to tell everyone I was in a rush at the end). I was a new patient and I felt like everything was so expensive (even with my VSP insurance). For the exam and contact fitting, I had to pay about $120 (my coverage includes an eye exam with a small deductible, $20 or less). And I was told that I didn't even have a full contact lenses fitting. I think they nickle and dime you on the "extra" tests. The support staff had a hard time figuring out what I needed to do after my initial appt. Lastly when I picked up the contacts that I ordered, they didn't even mark for me which box went with which eye. Next time I'll try Costco and see how their service and experience is. read more

Originally we saw Dr. Baker and for years now we have been seeing Dr. Orr, and both are outstanding ... as are the office staff. Dr. Baker is thorough, friendly and takes his time to answer all my questions. I love him! Sue at the front desk is friendly and polite. However, I was not too happy after my last visit when no one bothered to tell me my Insurance wouldn't cover the exam until AFTER it was over. $180 lost. I won't be going back. What I have found most annoying, is after your exam, you are whisked away by a high pressure sales person (Vernale or Zernale?).....wow, talk about pushy sales!!! It's obvious she works on commission. I finally got smart and opted out of buying glasses through this (overpriced) office and buy them at Costco or on-line. It's so much nicer making your own decisions without the pushy sales tactics. read more

Several years ago, I switched to Dr. Orr (I don't remember why - probably a scheduling issue) and have gone to him ever since. Dr. Orr is pretty great! I was very pleased with this place after my last 2 visits. It was recommended to me by a friend who said the Dr. was very friendly and she was right! I hadn't had a really thorough eye exam in probably 15 years- way overdue! I was hoping that they would do a good exam since I'd been having some small eye issues. My first exam was almost 2 hours long- SUPER thorough! I was SO pleased and felt very well taken care of and happy to know the whole health of my eyes. They ran a ton of different tests and I paid $30 extra to get a kind of eye x-ray for deeper testing- it was fascinating and good to know I have healthy eyes for the most part. The price was not bad for all the testing and time it took- definitely worth it to do every few years I'd think. The doctor did find some problems and gave me some homework to do over the next month. I just had my month checkup and all looked pretty good. He taught me how to take better care of my eyes which should help with comfort in the long run. Overall the whole staff was very friendly and helpful. There is a big parking lot in the rear of the building too. My only complaint was on my second visit I sat in my room waiting for the Dr. for around 20 minutes and I'm VERY inpatient especially when it comes to doctors offices so that was a little frustrating but not enough to keep me from coming back (the first time I didn't have to wait long at all). I'm so happy I found a great eye doctor in the area!! read more

Dr. Baker is the best! Were this simply a review of him, it would be five stars all the way. He is exceedingly thorough and appropriately cautious. But his front office staff is a bit off putting, and -- since I'm a contact user -- I don't have any use for the optician / glasses sales part up front. Dr. Orr is the living definition of what a good health care provider should be: excellent interpersonal skills, knowledge of the field, accessible outside of appointments; takes his time during your visit. My wife and I are both doctors and after our visits here, always talk about the amazing level of care we get. He either has an excellent memory or takes meticulous notes about our visits because he remembers details about our lives after not seeing him for over a year. Either way, he really makes you feel like your questions and time are important. On top of his bedside manner, he caught a prescription error that was made by my previous optometrist that led to eye pain - essentially there was no vision correction in one of my lenses when there should have been! Can't say enough good things about Dr. Orr and his staff, their attention to detail goes a long way. I wish more care providers took this approach. read more

I found Dr. Orr very thorough and explained everything very well. I am bringing my kids to him later this month. The prices are expensive, but that's to be expected. I think their selection is the best among the small doctors' offices around town. I have found some optometrists' offices in Lamorinda don't open until 10am and won't see patients until 10:30am. I got a much earlier appointment and was able to get to preschool pick-up on time. Oh, they don't take American Express. They should. read more

I wish I could give these folks 6 stars. I'm aware that some reviews may sound a bit lofty, however, when I say that Lamorinda Optometry changed my life, I really mean it. They have been my optometry of choice for almost 30 years and every time I go they get better and better. For medical reasons my eyes are difficult to fit, and they get tired at the end of the day, making it difficult to engage in my favorite pastime, reading. At my most recent visit, Dr. Baker did his usual splendid work of measuring me for a new prescription, and then he continued to work his magic taking into account how my health had changed my eyesight. Then I went out to see Kyle to be fitted for new frames. Kyle has been devoted to finding me the roundest frames for years. He never gives up. This is the third or fourth pair he's fitted me for, and, yes, he just gets better and better, too. He adjusted the shading, the tint, the type of progressive lens and showed me frames that he knew I would love. I did. But all that's just fluff. What's important is that for the first time in over a year, I'm able to really read again. clearly. I'm absolutely sure that everyone at Lamorinda Optometry is just as wonderful as Dr. Baker and Kyle, but these two guys have my vote for the best customer service ever. read more

Be very careful, they bill you for amounts without providing you with any indication of the basis of the bill (visit date, etc.). Even after repeated requests. Insult to injury, they add finance charges. read more

I give up. After three tries, the lenses provided by this store keep "crinkling" on the surface--the protective coating shrinks and develop tiny wrinkles, decreasing clarity and vision. The part-time counter people keep saying they have "never seen this before." If they're wearing their own glasses, then maybe this is true. The first excuse was plausible, but three times now, and their solution: "we can take a message." Nice selection of pricey frames, but the service stops there. read more

Lamorinada Optometry will not stand behind their work. If you get pair of glasses and you see a blurry world through a bad prescription and ask them to resolve the problem Dr. Orr will say, not my problem. I was interested in having a pair of Rudy Project sunglasses fitted with my prescription. I wanted progressive, polarized, transition lenses. After having the prescription improperly filled through VSP at another optometrist (they were unable to provide all three features I wanted - settled for progressive polarized - and uncurved the frame to get the prescription to work so they no longer fit), I chose Lamorinda Optometry because they are a Rudy Project Dealer close to my home and had high ratings on Yelp!. The office was immaculate, the staff was friendly and efficient and appointments ran on time. The optician that primarily helped me, Zernel Hilton, took each of my concerns seriously. Happily, the Rudy Project lab was able to provide progressive, polarized, transition lenses for my frames. When the glasses came back, I noticed that the right lens was off. Zernel was on vacation, but her colleague assisted me with the same diligence and courtesy as she had. He tested the lens but could not find a defect. However, to eliminate any possible source of error, Dr. Orr asked that I come in for a complimentary eye exam (Thank you Dr. Orr!) to verify my prescription was accurate - which it was. Ultimately, Zernel returned the lens to Rudy Project where their sophisticated equipment was able to detect that the lens was slightly off. They replaced it promptly. When I received the glasses, I was more than pleased with the final product. Zernel was not. She felt that the right lens was a bit too small and should be remade to fit more snugly. She sent it back for replacement. I would have never noticed. When the new lens returned, we were both happy. These individuals are pros that are truly concerned with patient satisfaction. In my opinion, they all provided exceptional service the likes of which I've not found previously. I highly recommend them and will return. read more
