This little park backs up to the Eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada in the Carson River Basin of Northern Nevada. Celebrated the 4th of July here, listening to some great bluegrass. Watched the kids dancing and having a grand ole time. You feel like you've stepped back in a carefree time for a moment. The Genoa fire department had chicken dinners. Great food, great music and an all around great time. I can still see the children running through the sprinklers. Sons and dads having a catch. Reminds us of our yesteryears with a backdrop of our beautiful Nevada summer weather, mountains, fresh air and butterflies.

We were there to enjoy one of the speakers in their summer series, Christina Thomas, "Songbird: The Story of the Paiute People" and she was great as she shared the history of the Paiute people in the Great Basin. The Dangberg Ranch is located on HWY 88 just south of its intersection with HWY 395, and you'll head west onto a dirt road for about a mile to get to the ranch, and the road is a bit rough, and on the day we went, muddy from recent rain. Was it worth it? I'm local and have been visiting Grover for two decades and things have really gone downhill since…read moreCovid. The reservation system sucks. Why can't we make reservations the same day? This makes no sense. I used to visit Grover weekly, so they made around $500/year from my visits. Since Covid, I've been three times, so they've made about $30 from my visits in the last five years. Making it harder to visit is extremely stupid and has turned off many locals who used to visit regularly. I'm in favor of keeping the reservation system, but the 48 hour cutoff is idiotic. The other major issue is the inconsistent opening hours and arbitrary closings. This has been true since before Covid. However, these days the phones NEVER work, so there's no way to know if they are actually open. Even if you have a reservation, I wouldn't trust them to be open. I've made that mistake more than once and wasted an hour and half in the car. Since they can't be bothered to fix their phones (this has been going on for YEARS) or get a cheap cell phone for the pool area, it's impossible to know if they are truly open. Buyer beware. Opening hours also suck from a soaking standpoint. Grover used to be open until 8pm, then it was 7pm, and now it's 5pm. Grover used to be a great place to stop for a soak after skiing, but now that's no longer possible because of the 5pm closing. Soaking in the summer is even worse. Who wants to soak in a hot spring mid-day in July? No one. In the summer you want an evening soak, when the sun has dipped behind the mountains, but nope! They're closed at 5. Stupid. Opening hours on Yelp are incorrect as well. I've submitted a correction. Per the State Park website, Grover is now only open Friday-Sunday. Of course no one who works for the park bothers to update this information. This place is so poorly run., On a positive note, the staff is always very nice and it's a beautiful spot.

We took the boys both 12 yrs with their scooters and they had so much fun we had to drag them away. This is a great skatepark for all levels! If your like me you want to see the kids while not freezing or melting so parking is close with full view of the park. There are also benches available and a grass park nearby as well as restaurants, coffee shops, fast food, gas/quickstop. *f your looking for a great skate shop to get you started, to update your current choice of wheels or learn some new tricks, try out The Wheelhouse in Carson City. They have everything you need from scooters, skateboards, bikes, cool apparel, nutrition bars/drinks, and a huge selection of accessories, including wheels, bars grips, cool deck tape and a big selection of stickers, etc. I fell in love with the artsy side if the shop and great customer service. They have a great mentoring program that kids with a little experience can get involved in and help out with younger kids or beginners in the sport. Its a great way to teach kids how to pay it forward and they might learn some tips along the way. They have built an indoor training area in the back part of the shop including a small gym area. They really encourage healthy living and getting active!

I do provide one star for this being a beautifully maintained and gorgeous venue. Two more stars because down on Eddie Street there's a charge point that has two plugs and there's a one dollar session fee but after that it's only $.20 per kilowatt hour, which is about as cheap as it comes. I'll be some places do of course give free charging but for charging that is remarkable.
