An active area park. There's 4 baseball/softballs fields near the Owensmouth side, most of the time soccer is being played on the baseball field, there's a small indoor basketball gym & a few outdoor basketball courts, & newish playground area for kids, skateboard ramp area, & a new turf soccer field. The park is in the middle of a neighborhood surrounded by a lot of apartments so finding a spot to park is tough. Spots on Topanga open up often because there's usually a 1 hour limit. It's a cool little park but I definitely wouldn't hang around here after the sun goes down. read more

I wouldn't change anything maybe the parking and bathrooms but the staff here are amazing my kids having been coming here to the programs for a year now and they love it the staff is very welcoming and they teach the kids my son didn't know how to play flag football or basketball and he learned how todo it through the staff here i recommend this park to any family im comfortable and my kids love it here read more

I actually really like this park even though it is always packed and has trash everywhere. They have a huge field to play soccer or baseball or throw parties at. The playground is really big and has a 2-5 section and 5-12 section with some different climbing and spinning equipment. There is also a skate park and there are always a few vendors selling food. read more

This is my place for my lunch breaks!! I heard in the past lots of nasty comment about this place. To be honest it's not what it used to be back in the days. This is a great place for children and adults. A great place to get some running, reading, all while your child is playing in the playground. This place has baseball diamonds fields (Canoga Park High School - Baseball Field, during the spring season.) They also have 2 outdoors basketball courts, where many people are always playing. I love how they constructed a NEW turf soccer field (lighted). Pros: Always an ice cream man or raspados/churritos guy selling stuff! Cons: Not enough water fountains, so bring some water! PS: I will return in the summer for their POOL, The cost is only $0.50 (YES, fifty cents!) read more

SUMMER CAMP REVIEW! Had my son in this years summer camp program and it was a joke. Paid $100 a week for 4 days of summer camp supervised by kids. Had to pay $10 for an extra camp shirt when they got his camp shirt ruined on "paint day". The counselor responded, well we didn't think it would get so messy! LOL They put paint on a ball and threw it at each other... um what did you expect?! Then I had my final straw last week when a counselor asked (after 8 weeks) why we pick him up at 4 pm when he can stay til 6 pm. WAIT so I've been paying for 8 weeks of Summer Camp ($800) and taking him out 2 hours early everyday because of your wording (extended hours) and you're barely telling me when it's almost over HAHAHA read more

This place does many sports during the year for all ages like basketball, Soccer, baseball, volleyball, etc.. They have a playground that is great for children to play in. The bad things are that the parking is awful, a lot of the people who live in the apartments near the park, park in the parking lot of the park. The other bad thing is the bathrooms. The bathrooms are disgusting and dirty. I recommend walking there if you don't live far and if you have kids, sign them up for a sport! read more

This review is specifically for Lanark Pool and its staff as that's the only part of this large center that we've been using so far. We found this place online by chance while looking for affordable swim classes for kids in our area. Whenever I called there was a pleasant lady named Christina answering the phone and being very thorough, helpful and positive providing information. Thank you Christina! Long story short, we realized Lanark pool offers free swim classes (!!!) and rushed to register our five- year old boy ASAP. And today our boy completed his beginners' class and proudly received his certificate of completion. He was thrilled. The classes take place every day Monday through Friday for two weeks. Duration of each class is 25 mins. But after coaching time is over, you are allowed to stay in the pool and have some free practice time which is so helpful and fun. All the coaches we've had for the past two weeks were great. Specifically, I wanted to mention Coach Emily and Coach Isabella who were very involved and hands-on during swim sessions and who actually would get in the water, demonstrate every move physically in the water and coming to every child, giving some personal coaching and checking with families. All other coaches were also great. They obviously have the options of either getting in the water or staying out the water while coaching, but I personally loved them getting in the water and being hands-on. It's so crucial for the little ones to see the coach right in front of them in the pool. It's kind of comforting for kids and parents, at least for me and my husband. I'd also want to thank the front desk staff, including but not limited to John and Betty. They were always welcoming, smiling and accommodating. Great job guys. Keep up the good work. Ghetto. Off the bat I'm just gonna get that out of the way. They remodeled the kids playground which was GREAT! they made a good call on that. Except a couple of IDIOTS/LOW LIFES have already begun destroying the play area with all their BS graffiti. GGGGRRRRRR!! I mean WTF??!! I can almost guarantee that those responsible for that DON'T even pay taxes!! and they live off welfare. Anyway the upgrade of that was def in dier need for the place, they have all kinds of cool things for the kids to do and they have one of the higher slides i've seen around the area. The crowds that come here are diverse (us latinos take the lead) I don't make this park my first choice BECAUSE of the type of crowd that comes here but I admit that my daughter def picks this place above all the rest as of late. Definitely not the best park to take kids to, no parking, not always the best people there. I took my 4 year old daughter to the skate park to ride her balance bike and everyone who was skating ect was more the kind to her. They loved that she was there and allowed her to have fun without feeling that she was in the way. Few smoked a little MJ and while normally it doesn't bug me personally at least try not to do it around little ones. The actual park equipment needs help forsure and there were some older (middle school) kids that showed up left trash and had a mouth of a sailor. For a skate park in the valley it's not bad but I wouldn't take my kid to play on the playground there's nicer ones around. read more

Haven't been to this park since high school. It's been almost 5 years! I was sad that the playground was remodeled because I had good and bad made childhood memories there that I'll never forget. I enjoyed experimenting the new playground. There's lots of spinny things where you stand on a pole like thing with circular steps at the bottom and someone spins you around. I saw a kid jumping on one and it looked a little inappropriate because she looked like she was riding on a ............ Anyways, I really like that people are so cool with unleashed dogs. I came here with Goofy a few times and had him on his leash to play fetch in case someone would freak out and I'd have to chase after him. Fortunately, no one has complained thus far and many people bring their dogs here off leash. It's a convenient place for us to visit since it's walking distance compared to the dog park and he looks so free running around compared to a fenced area. Watching Goofy smiling as he runs through the lushous, lively, green grass as the sun sets behind the playground, reminded me of my youth and how much I enjoyed playing at this park and living life as an innocent and carefree child. P.S Good burrito/taco truck on Strathern Street! Candy/chip trucks on Lanark street. Watch out when you make turns on Strathern and Topanga, and Lanark and Topanga. My brother and I used to call these corners death corners because we've witnessed so many accidents ie someone on Lankark would try to make a left turn while someone on Topanga would try to make a left turn but end up crashing into each other. read more

I like this place. First off it is right down the street and they have a nice play area for kids. New soccer field and basketball court and swimming pool. Big baseball diamonds. My biggest complaint is it is on Topanga, a big, 3 lane street with a 45 mph speed limit. To close to a big street for me. read more

​It's in a bad neighborhood, trash everywhere, people from the apartments across the street take over all the parking, in the facilities and on the street. There seems to be no enforcement. If you find a spot to squeeze into, the neighbors get territorial. Avoid parking anywhere near the taco truck as they will spit on your car. As for the recreation activities, they are not accommodating for autistic children. I don't recommend the rec center at all. They seemed nice at first, but obviously favored their usual kids & disliked mine, so all issues we're blamed on the autistic kid and not the violent one they knew & liked. I'm not a fan of violence. The recreation staff got upset when I said a kid was violent for beating mine up. The summer swim staff was even more ignorant when it comes to autism. My son burned the soles of his feet walking around in circles looking for me because they wouldn't let me into the facility with him, despite me asking & explaining the accommodation. read more

This is a really nice park. I needed to get a 3-mile run in to complete my running goals for a week and chose this park for a first-time run here. It was a hot day but offered some shade and variety doing laps around the park. I think one lap was a half mile. The soccer pitch they added with lights is AMAZING. I wish every city park in L.A. had one because soccer is so popular here and people want to play. It's a well landscaped soccer field. As a person not really into soccer but interested, I'm intrigued by this field. And it was built at an angle near Topanga Blvd. rather than on a corner. There are also two softball fields and a pool. There always seem to be a Big Burrito food truck parked on the street south of the park. I haven't eaten from it but it smells delicious. I'm grateful for the City of Los Angeles to offer this park. read more

We love this place! Our child attended the PRE SCHOOL PROGRAM here and that was nice. The teachers they have are so wonderful and kind. Plus it is only 90$ a month!!! Great!!! They also did Christmas parents and had a whole huge graduation for the kids. Which was so nice. They really went all out for both of those. We did soccer as well. That was different just b/c I didn't know there was going to be so many kids. But the program was only 40$ for about 2 months. So it really is a great rec center of you are looking for activities and inexpensive but not ready stuff for your kids to do. :) read more

We normally come here at night time when my husband plays basketball with all his friends. There is only one full size court and one half court. The main lights go off around 1030 but there is still plenty of light to play. The only bad thing is the parking they have a lot of restricted parking after 10 or 11pm. And you can't park in the parking lot because they close it and they give you tickets. read more

This is a great park. This has allowed my son the opportunity to learn t-ball and to grow into liking the sport baseball. The coaches are great and do the best they can for the kids. He also learned how to swim after we attended their summer swimLA program. I read a lot of reviews of this park not being the nicest, may not be the nicest but my son does have fun here and has participated in park activities where he benefited. read more

We signed up to play multiple sports in the leagues that they put on there and the whole thing was nothing but a disappointment. I like that the programs are made affordable with grants but even the $10 per sports fee seemed overpriced for the experience that we got. We had a coach named Kim who was involved in all the sports and she was AWFUL!!! She never coached or corrected them, started practices late, ended them early, and the list goes on and on. The guys in the office are nice, but several parents brought the disappointing coaching experience up to them and nothing noticeable was done and NOTHING changed or improved. It's frustrating because the program is cheap and should be a great experience for the kids but because of the terrible coaching by Kim we had a awful time. Parents who volunteered did a substantially better job then her and she's a paid employee! Not sure if we'd do any other programs through this parks department but if we did we sure as hell would not let Kimberly Arce coach again. I think it would go a long way with the program if they hired better people that at least pretended to care. The uniforms they gave were nice and the trophies at the end of the year were something both of my kids enjoyed, but having Kim as a coach ruined the whole experience overall. Lanark park is a fantastic community park!! Yes you might struggle for parking but man is that park the center of many many families!!! Specifically for me Lanack has provided my son the ability to play baseball, basketball and soccer. Year round there is tons of activities for the kids (most are free) and the staff there truly cares about the kids. Take your time to get to know this park, they offer so much. The public pool is awesome aswell, always very clean. read more

CANOGA PARK, Calif. - After moving to the valley a couple of years ago, the biggest thing I noticed was the concrete. Coming from a small town like Ventura where farms, groves and parks are at every half-mile point, it's still hard to adjust to the life out here where the traffic is constantly congested and the air is thick with pollution, that is, until I visited Lanark Recreation Park. Just off Topanga Canyon Blvd. and Lanark Rd there is 4700 square feet of dirt, grass, trees - and no concrete. The park is open to the public from dawn until dusk, including four baseball diamonds, a soccer/football field, swimming pool, tennis courts and two large children play areas. What's great about this park is its open space. Normally my friends and I would throw around the football in the street and pause every five minutes to let cars pass by, but to able to have a place where there is an open field and to not have to worry about diving into a moving Chevy Tahoe is fantastic. The park isn't entirely an open field; the rest is under the shade of trees including the picnic area. The picnic area isn't very large and only four separate sitting areas. What's unfortunate about the picnic area is that it's not in the middle of the park or spread throughout, but right along the edge of the park and up against Strathem Street making it a very noisy and difficult to get that 'out of the city' feel. Lanark Park has a recreation center with an indoor gym and after school programs as well as the youth development program called "Class Parks." This program was developed by the City of Los Angeles Recreation and Parks Department to provide a safe environment for at-risk youths between the ages of 11 and 15 by keeping them off the streets with engaging park activities. In order to create a safe haven, the recreation center also has what's called a Stop-In Center where an LAPD officer is on site and acts as a link between the police department and the surrounding community. The recreation center also offers a seven week course during the summer on becoming a junior lifeguard for ages 10 - 17. The park has a lot going for itself, except for some of the little things. Aside from the odd placing of the picnic area, the restrooms were atrocious, I'm assuming because there were only two stalls each for both males and females. I can't imagine the line there must be on a summer weekend. Also the cleanliness of the park itself was a little more to be desired and one drinking fountain isn't going to cut it. There wasn't a lot of trash on the ground, just in places you don't want it in at all, like the children's playground. Aside from the small hiccups of complaints, this park is amazing for friends playing a game, but not exactly a picnic getaway. -###- read more
