Hi. So I am not a patient but I had a personal encounter with Dr. Lancer. I got injured at the gym (level 3 sprain) and I wasn't doing too well. I was feeling very lightheaded and my vision kept coming in and out. I took my teenager 13 year old there to treat acne The receptionists were extremely rude especially that woman with the fake smile Rosanna who is apparently very angry They didn't accept health insurance and I paid to buy Dr Lancers cosmetics almost $1,500. They didn't help at all and he suggested facials with Natalie there,$500 each , we have done 4, almost $2,000 When my little daughter got disappointed, we saw no improvement, then she asked to go to a doctor who is a provider from our health insurance in Santa Monica and this lady prescribed ( not cosmetics of his own line line Dr Lancer) but clyndamycin phosphate 1% and my daughters acne got cured with a little copayment of $35 What it is the most aggravating for this horrendous place of Dr Lancer is that after we paid so many thousands to his office no one called us to check on my teenage daughter neither the doctor not the nurses, neither the facial lady Natalie nor the receptionists( who anyways were rude snub and obnoxious especially Rosanna ) and I did complain about her demeanor to Dr Lancer but he did nothing about it. I went to Lancer dermatology for hyperpigmentation. I had to beg to see Dr Lancer post treatment and was charged money every time regardless of post treatment concerns. My treatment did not go well, and the remedy was always to spend more money on the lancer products - thousands of dollars and the hyperpigmentation not only did not get better, but was worse. The nurses in the office, most not registered nurses, were handling questions and approaches that the dermatologist should've had firsthand in. more and more products every time, and when I sent them pictures of the problem, they acted as if everything was fine. I have had very positive experiences with Dr Lancer and his nurse, Abigail, who exhibits professional and caring interpersonal skills. She performed the Harmony and Halo treatments and then followed up everyday for a seven days while healing (including the weekend). Both the doc and Abigail showed me pictures of my face (before and after) and the results were amazing! My daughter and wife both comment on my improved skin. Dr Lancer trains his medical staff well and they explain the prescribed skin regimen in detail. His website explains all active ingredients which are more natural than many ingredients found in other skin care products. Highly recommend read more

While Dr Lancer is a knowledgeable dermatologist, I did not have a good experience with Lancer Dermatology and would not recommend them. The focus appears to be on maximizing how much they can earn from you per hour, vs patient care. Dr Lancer does not do the laser treatments himself and relies on assistants, who are condescending and treat patients like you children. After each appointment, you are told to buy expensive products -- which, after checking the ingredients on them, you can fairly quickly determine are up-charged by a factor of about 5-6x what you can find similar quality products for at Amazon. Before my last appointment, my daughter tested positive for Covid and was set home from school that day. I let them know right away and took a PSR test and told them I could come later in the week if it was negative, or do a video appointment. I was told that I should take a fast test and just go in or pay $400 for a fifteen minute video appointment, for which I might need to wait for some time before the doctor showed up. When I told them I was most comfortable waiting for the PSR test results to come in, they told me they were still going to charge me a fee -- despite it being ethically inappropriate to charge a fee for covid-related reasons, especially given the thousands I had paid for treatments up to this point. I had to push hard to get out of the fee -- which felt pretty uncomfortable given the circumstances. I have had much better experiences with other dermatologists and other kinds of service providers, with similar academic and professional backgrounds, who seem to really care for their patients and not just the last dollar. My feeling is that Dr Lancer relies on a celebrity clientele who doesn't care about whether treatments are heavily up-charged. If this isn't you, I'd advise looking elsewhere. read more

After my appointment today, I can report that Dr. Lancer is still the best dermatologist out there. I was concerned after reading some of these negative reviews that he may have lost his golden touch. Not the case. As he has done in the past, he caught some pre-cancerous spots, put me back on a path to diminish newly emerged sun spots/hyperpigmentation and administered premium Botox around my eyes - I was in and out within 30 minutes. Lancer is the absolute best. When you see the name and the address you'd should expect the price tag. I visited three highly regarded dermatologists before visiting Dr. Lancer; none came up with adequate solutions. Lancer and his team address your problems and care about you as a patient. But the absolute best part of this practice is RPK. She's the esthetician and she is wonderful. She also comes up with more holistic solutions for your skin issues. I think her treatments and facials are one of the most effective aspects of this practice if you are recommended them. Now, some people are critical of his product recommendations and I do agree that some people won't benefit from some of his products. But overall, I find that they work, especially the products exclusive to the practice. Dr. Lancer is a very knowledgable man but you must do your own part and ask questions. He isn't like some doctors that like to talk a lot. He is very short and to the point but will take the time to explain things if you ask him to. The stand out at this office is his nurse Michelle, she is VERY helpful and empathetic. She takes her time to fully explain anything Dr. Lancer briefly mentioned. She is also very professional and listens to your concerns and address them. This guy is a fraud. He wants to steal your money and sell his fake dermatologist products which are fake and made me break out - I can't believe he made me believe I needed 2k of his shit and when I went back so another one of his dermatologists (he's too good for me, I'm not a celebrity or anything because my money or crypto isn't as good as theirs) and she just made it worse and charged me another fee without my authorization! When I asked for a refund as this was for a correction and not authorized he seriously sends a letter stating I can't be a patient anymore. The office is immaculate. One of the nicest I have seen. The staff is very straight forward. Once you make it beyond the front desk they get friendlier - until the dreaded product pitch. Dr. Lancer is a solid dude. He's quirky and intelligent, but is efficient. He has a good sense of humor if you're capable of sensing it. Otherwise I could see why he would come off cold to some. The dreaded product pitch by the assistant is brutal. They blur the line between what has been prescribed and what are add-on products. They threw a good $1,000 of products at me as if it was the recommended package by the doctor. Maybe it was, maybe it wasn't. I know nothing about skin care products, so I carefully weeded out the useless products as best I could and still left with $400 worth. If I can't trust my doctor than I won't go to them. Products did NOT work. The Method, Lift Serum Intense, Retexturizing Cream, and Intense Night Treatment...and a healthy diet. I've seen ZERO changes in my skin after 3 months. I emailed them and Makenzie said it would take 6 months to see changes. That's not what your website claims! She could not have cared less about their products not working. They're simply in it for the money and have zero concerns about the customers that have invested in their line. Dr. Lancer should be embarrassed. UPDATE: One of the employees, Jonathan, was kind enough to reach out to me after seeing my review. He asked what he could do to help. I told him I wanted better skin and I was so disappointed the products I invested in did not work. I told him I wanted Dr. Lancer to look at photos of my skin and give me recommendations. He got back to me and let me know that while Dr. Lancer could not do that (apparently that violates HIPAA, but I disagree), he was willing to work with me to have my money refunded. I'm writing this review based on Nurse Kristy. I followed her from Santa Monica to Working for Dr. Lancer in Beverly Hills. Kristy is a 5 star laser expert. ***** I had the halo done with her twice. The results were incredible and I've done every kind of laser, peel, and injectable imaginable. This is somewhat of a new laser and I give 1/2 the credit to Nurse Kristy of how professional she was and 1/2 the credit to the Halo. There was not one spot on my face that was undone. It was like she was the patient getting the procedure done herself. Kristy was worth every penny. There are a lot of people who say they are professionals, but not like Kristy. Although the products worked well, I wanted to visit the office for other pressing skin issues I was dealing with. From the moment I step into the office, I felt pretty relaxed. Not only were the staff friendly, but I had my millions of skin questions thoroughly answered! I didn't know I was supposed to take my makeup off before exercising because it clogs pores. Oops. I got a facial from the oh-so-kind Louise who gave my face a needed exfoliation. I was also recommended a few alternative products, which I may consider in the future. I CREATED A YELP ACCOUNT SPECIFICALLY TO WARN PEOPLE OF THIS DOCTOR. I'M SORRY I EVER WENT TO DR. LANCER. I have always had nice skin, but decided I should put it in the "best" hands to keep it that way. After hearing all the hype, I made an appointment. On my first visit, the doctor said I needed microdermabrasion and several hundred dollars worth of products. After my consultation, I was handed off to a very unenthusiastic nurse who did the "peel". Unfortunately, I cannot remember her name, but I do remember that she was Asian. Afterward, I asked to speak to the doctor again because I had some concerns about sunscreen and my past sensitivity to it. He could not be found. Another nurse (not Dr. Lancer, whom I desperately wanted to consult, or the unenthusiastic woman) returned and condescendingly told me I had to wear sunscreen (yeah, I know, lady, but I'm sensitive to it and want to discuss with the doctor!). She then put on her glasses and came 5 inches from my face and said, "oh yeah, you will be sorry when you're my age." I was extremely insulted and felt that she was not listening to my concerns. She successfully bullied me into using a supposedly gentle sunscreen, and my freshly peeled skin had an allergic reaction. I wish I could remember her name. She was tall, white, loud, and wearing a towel like a turban both times I was there (I'm assuming she was having treatments done on those days). When I went back in to see the doctor about my rash, he said I needed ANOTHER peel and that the rash was not from his products, but a possible thyroid problem I might be having. Again, I trusted the famous doctor and did what he said. Over time, as I have thought about the situation, his deflection has really bothered me. I believe that this second peel performed on my inflamed skin did great damage. My pores are now enlarged and my skin has never fully recovered. After going back to my old dermatologist, a simple application of a steroid cream cleared up the irritation. Obviously, I discontinued the use of any Lancer products. I feel extremely taken advantage of and unheard by Dr. Lancer and his office. Another friend of mine got the same rash from his products, and her old dermatologist had her ice her face and told her to throw away all new products. I strongly would dissuade anyone from going here. The repercussions of my two visits have been heartbreaking. read more

my boss took me to dr. lancer because i was complaining about my skin. it was almost impossible to get an appointment, but we did, somehow. i sat in the waiting room and i saw the pussycat dolls and robyn anton with her mom. i thought if they were coming here, this must be good! dr. lancer is nice and he looked at my skin and basically told me i suck at skin care. i spend too much time in the sun. i don't use the right products. blab blah. then he left. it saw him for like, 3 minutes. then the nurse came in and gave me a big huge list of the products i need and told me how to apply them. then, i went to leave and they gave me 7 products, instructions and a $650 bill. i'm still not sure what part of that was the doctors visit! i almost choked on my own shock. i paid for it, went home and followed the instructions. my skin turned red for a few days, and then it started changing! the products really made a HUGE difference. the doctor didn't really do much. i would recommend that you go just for the products. they have to be purchased through him, unfortunately. but it's worth it. read more

It is very clear Dr. Lancer loves what he does - One does not need to be famous to feel cared for there. The doctor and the office were all lovely. They did not hard sell the skin products offered. I am warning every one of my friends about Dr Lancer only to discover they have had their own problems with him. The truth is coming out. I am in my 50s and had excellent skin because I didn't mess with it. I told Dr Lancer I didn't even get facials because they were too harsh on my delicate skin. The only real lines I had were a few above my upper lip. Never smoked, they were just there. He used CO2 laser to remove the lines. I could smell my flesh burning. It took 2 months for the skin to heal. That collagen that's supposed to be "stimulated" never happened. I now have 5 times as many lines that are twice as deep. He basically burned off the top layer of my skin and thinned out my upper lip. Even my top lip is thinner as a result. A plastic surgeon tested my skin to see if it could handle CO2, which it clearly couldn't. All Lancer had to do was test it first. My skin is now permanently damaged. When I look in the mirror, that's all I see. And when I am on camera(I'm an actress) the grooves above my lip age me 15 years. When I went back to see Dr Lancer, he wouldn't look me in the eye, said "Sorry you're not happy" and left the room. I think he cares more about making money off his machines than he does about your skin. read more

The staff are rude and oblivious - much more concerned with serving their god, Dr. Lancer, than actually extending themselves in any way to their patients. We had an actual medical emergency and they were SO concerned with protecting the doctor from an extraneous call that they gave us bad advice that could have resulted in death. DO NOT GO HERE if you have actual medical needs. I could never recommend or endorse this office. They are arrogant and dismissive and I think they forgot they are in the medical profession. I heard about this office from a friend of mine, when I called they insisted I give them a second phone number and email. I've been to another dermatologist in Beverly Hills who did laser treatment for me and it healed in less than 2 weeks and there was no consultation fee, I was charge 650 there and the staff was amazing, reading the reviews on here made me realize going to this place is going to be a mistake and something I will regret. Lancer literally told my husband he was in it for the money because he's loading up to retire. (And said something about his wife being expensive. And something about being only interested in hocking his own products.) He also proudly diagnosed my husband's very obvious athlete's foot and proclaimed the experience of doing so as being very exciting for him, he being very "bored" by all the "vain" problems of his usual clients. My husband and I used his products, indulged in his in-office diamond peel routine (which he orders for everyone) and applied his proprietary retinols, not-so-magic-magic potions, etc.; and we really did do everything he said (including cut out coffee and sugar) all for about two years. Ultimately our skin was left irritated, aged, hurting and sick. Despite having spent a bloody fortune. And despite, again, after drinking his koolaid religiously. And despite both of us having pretty fantastic skin at the start. Lancer has some amazing technicians who do his dirty work. Mia gave me some of the best facials of my life and changed my saggy face with her mad Ulthera skills and other things. But the real red flag here is that Dr. Lancer overlooked a mole of mine which ultimately proved to be melanoma. ("Overlooked" during a screening I requested and which he engaged in with all the enthusiasm of a teenager staring at a wall.) I'm fine now, thanks. To be fair, Dr. Lancer did diagnose a weird, terrible and rare bacterial infection of a friend of mine which she'd been struggling to have properly treated for awhile and she said he was amazing about that. My honest, from the heart sense is that he is that Dr. Lancer IS bored. And that he was, at one point, a true talent in his field. And that he kind of hates himself for having become such a trite person who deals exclusively in superficiality and whose work has little real meaning anymore. And I think he might take this boredom out on his clients sometimes. My guess is if you went in to see him with a rare tropical fungus you'd be interesting to him and he might open his eyes to you and provide you with some real treatment because his diagnosis something cool would make him feel good about himself. But if you don't have a debilitating fungal explosion all over your face, he's going to treat you like any old bitter man treats anyone standing between himself and his golf clubs. read more

I have mixed feelings about this place. They cured my acne by being much more aggressive than other derms and being willing to put me on Accutane for a relatively minor issue compared to others. I put this is in the pro column. In the con, there's the endless upsell for the house product, which would be fine if they were actually the best... but they aren't. They just aren't. I've bandied around a fair amount of lovely products and Lancer is, overall, really not worth the money. Plus the packaging is abysmal. And flat out breaks about 30 percent of the time. The prices are very high for anything you want to do at the office. The chairs in the lobby are awk-warddd if you don't want to buddy up tight w strangers... you'll see. And I like Dr. Lancer but I can see how his personality could raise the hackles of some. I came from the standpoint of never wanting to shortchange my health and appearance, but eventually I concluded that there were great docs who were a *little* less fleece-tastic Hollywood and now I'm with a new doc, and no facepocalypse has occurred.
