We had a blast! Came here to see what Rovers could do, having bought one recently. My wife was apprehensive about the whole idea, but towards the end of a 4hr. tour she was also driving the course and she was absolutely stoked! They go over some really fun terrain and it was much dicier than most of what we usually cover on our journeys down forest roads. I would have passed on some of the steeps prior to today. Not now! Our guide Cole was great! Excellent instruction and confidence-building in the onboard tech as well as technique. Great guy to have in the passenger seat! Yes, as some have mentioned, this is not Baja. You're not going 70mph across the desert. That's not the point - you're in 4 low...for a reason. Totally worth it if you just bought one (and intend to actually use it how it was designed to be used) or are kicking around the idea of buying one. Few tips: Don't expect a racetrack, the car goes very slow the entire time ~1-5mph Don't drink any liquid 1 hour before this experience. The constant bumping up and down, from side to side makes holding pee unbearable. If you're thinking about just going in the wilderness: unless you're male, good luck trying to pee among the 1 foot shrubbery of privacy and poison oak everywhere. Our experience: My bf was super excited about this experience and booked us both tickets. I thought alright, I guess we have to do what he wants 1/100000 times we plan something ;D I can't remember the name of our guide, but he was an older retired gentleman. He was a great teacher. He had very clear instructions and worked with our comfort level. First thing we did was our guide took us to a small clearing in the forest and went over all the buttons in the car and some other off-roading tips. Then there was a small practice area to get the hang of the off-roading technology in the car and get a feel for the SUV. After a few twists and turns, we were ready to hit the trails. Our guide was in the car in front of us and we communicated via radio. He would tell us what he was about to do, then do it, and we would follow. Before certain big hills/grooves, we grouped outside of the cars and discussed strategies for getting across. We were on the trails for about an hour. Honestly, don't ask me what we learned. The only thing I remember is Hill Descent Control (HDC) and my full bladder bouncing up and down. My boyfriend felt very empowered after the 2hr lesson and has not stopped talking about buying an off-roading vehicle since. read more

This was such a fun and informative experience! Sterling was a terrific instructor and I wonder where he was when I was learning how to drive! With his step-by-step instruction, my husband and I were able to confidently navigate challenging terrain like we were expert drivers. In addition to Sterling's calm demeanor, he also has a wealth of knowledge that far surpasses anyone we've encountered. He has many years of technical and practical Land Rover experience and finally, I was able to ask someone all the detailed questions that I had been accumulating. Finally, we had someone with enough knowledge to have an in-depth conversation! Can't recommend this experience enough. It's absolutely vital to have this behind-the-wheel training with the amazing technology that these vehicles have to offer. Otherwise, I'd have buttons in the car that would never be used! Most amazing off-road vehicle instruction ever! Justin was the lead instructor and manager who arranged the visit ahead of time. Justin greeted us and welcomed us into their training facility. For all Land Rover vehicles purchased or leased - this includes Range Rover, Land Rover, LR4, Discovery, Discovery Sport, Velar, etc... You get a 2 hour free instruction one on one with a Land Rover instructor on how to navigate your car on many different obstacles / terrain. We signed up as an Owner's Experience day they host 4 times a year. Starts in the morning at the Quail Lodge Golf Course conference room w/ great filling hot breakfast! Then we all get into our Land Rovers and split into 2 separate groups that do the same trail but at different speeds. The larger Range Rovers, LR4, full sized Discovery cars all go together because they have the 2 speed transfer case (low and high range) 4 wheel drive system. Our group was 2 cars - Range Rover Evoque and Discovery Sport because these cars have a single speed transfer with Haldex coupling which retains all wheel drive ability. Sterling was our instructor and he definitely worked his day by hiking alongside our cars going up and down hills for 3 hours. Speed was slow but controlled, we had the opportunity to traverse: ditches, huge uneven hills, 33 degree side bank traverse, deep water crossings, mud, 2 wheel teeter-totter ridge balancing, and huge downhill slides on 3 wheels. These vehicles are amazing! No wonder they are the choice for serious off road driving like the African sahara desert to rain forests. We end the 3 hour drive with a delicious lunch at the golf meeting room. And to end the event, we receive our framed certificate, money clip, LR hat, and a nice LR notebook. Sterling was a former car sales person and now is a consultant to Land Rover as a product specialist and dealer trainer. Sterling has shown so much more capability than the selling dealer, that I learned more about my car than any other brand! Sterling was also able to spend about an hour with us after the event and showed us the new full sized Discovery that replaced the LR4 - they call it the Discovery 5. I will be upgrading to the new Discovery 5 TD6 (diesel) which gets 40MPG! read more

We laughed. We screamed. We cheered each other on as we got sideways, vertical, looking down the front end into nothing, and rolling around in the back seat holding on for dear life. Tense. You bet! Our driving instructor - Mark Curtsinger -- had it all under control. And the Land Rover came back none the worse for wear except a little road warrior dirt. Looking for perfect team building event? Wedding, birthday, whatever party?! This would be the ultimate gift. This Land Rover practically drives itself over gullies and steep terrain. Exhilarating to the maximum degree! Bryan S kind of sums it up but I will add a few more things...this is a great event for older ladies or guys who have never been on the Rubicon or drive a Prius or something like that. Nice and slow and safe. OMG...I fell asleep for twenty minutes of it. Our guide was great but was severely limited by the anal lead guy who was barking it him about the drivers in our car. Such a joke...no cut loose at all. If you try and hit a little mud at more than about 7mph they freak out. Over emphasis how not to ever have the front or back end of the car bottom out. I thought this was an off road driving course? Put some skid plates on these things, lift it a bit, throw some 35's on there and start using the cars. It is the ultimate corporate team building embarrassment. With that said, the thing that saved it was our guide. We would punch it and tear it up a bit, he would get yelled at, and the guy driving told him his foot was stuck. Best ball off the cliff onto the golf course below was very nice with cocktails brought up there too. He also let us play music but other instructors would not. Hours going 1mph average and no tunes as other cars were stuck with...SUCKS. This could be a STELLAR five star experience if there were not more restrictions than the "It's a Small World ride" at Disneyland. If you want to cater to adults that are outgoing and adventurous, step it up...a lot. If you want to keep the corporate drone level, you are doing just fine and will have many happy customers. Just promote it as such for transparency. read more

We had a fantastic time at the 2-hour Land Rover Experience. Our instructor was calm, patient and very knowledgeable. We drove through some pretty intense terrain - over rocks and through water. The experience is perfect for groups, too. They have created team-building activities that focus on communication and trust. Overall our experience was 5 star. We had a super fun day outdoors, all COVID safe. We brought our own Land Rover (you can also arrange to drive theirs) and learned new things it could do. Guide Sterling took us over some fantastic terrain and really put the truck to the test - and our driving skills. He was ahead in his own Land Rover and we communicated by two-way radio, so no germ-spreading. There is nothing Sterling does not know about these vehicles! This experience is WAY different than advertised. You get a 1 hour off roading lesson yes, but it's VERY slow and theoretical. (At no point did we ever go above 10 miles per hour. Seriously.) For the amount of money and the title "experience" you'd expect to get some kind of rush but only rush we got was when got to leave and drive our own car. Only reason giving it 2 stars is cause the staff is nice, even though super buttoned up. Overall suggest avoid it and save the money. read more

From my first phone call inquiring about booking an experience until I returned to the office exhausted with an extremely muddy Land Rover, everyone at LRE was an absolute pleasure to deal with. I booked a full day adventure 1) because my husband wanted me to understand what my 2013 LR2 will and won't do, 2) we have a 2004 Discovery that we take off road in Arizona and I wanted to learn how to drive off road and 3) I wanted to have some fun. I can say without a doubt all of my objectives were exceeded. My instructor Lea was extremely knowledgeable and patient. He didn't just point to where he wanted me to drive, he took the time to explain to me why to take certain routes around hazards. We spent most of the first half of the day trying out the different terrain settings that you can select in the car such as grass/gravel/snow, mud & ruts, hill descent, etc. After lunch, we put the car into normal mode and I worked more on my skills. The terrain response system definitely helps but by the end of the day, the Discovery Sport was still running smoothly, even after I took a few hazards a little too fast. Lea remained calm the whole time and encouraged me to push ahead. While I still have a ton to learn, I definitely finished the day with a better understanding of driving off road. I have a good understanding of what my car will and won't do, which noises are 'normal' when the ABS is at work and which noises could indicated an issue. I also had a wonderful time and plan on doing another full day adventure in the future. On top of all this, the course is absolutely beautiful and the view of Carmel from the top of the hill amazing. Worth every penny in my opinion! read more
