I brought my 16 year old daughter to see Dr. Landers after a horrible and debilitating rash that 3 general practitioners could not identify. After 10 days on prednisone, it began to clear up and when we finally got an appointment with Dr. Landers there wasn't much left (we had been told to keep the appointment anyway to establish care). The first words out of Dr. Landers' mouth to my daughter was that she needed to stop picking her skin. My daughter is a Type 1 Diabetic, and the "picking" the doctor was referring to are insulin pump sites that my daughter has NO CONTROL over. Then she asked my daughter what she "put in her mouth" before the rash - "gummies? Vaping? Sexual activity?" It was so highly offensive and completely inappropriate. She then told me that next time the rash flared up, we'd need to come back to the office for "expensive procedures that I'd want to pay for." That comment was gross and unwarranted and preyed on a parent's desire to do whatever it takes to help their child - even at the roadblock of a financial hardship. Dr. Landers lifted my daughter's shirt without consent to do so. My daughter left crying and said she felt shamed. We will NEVER return to this office. read more

The receptionist tried to shame me into giving her my social security number and then their forms requested it in more than one location. This is not a financial institution, nor is it the IRS. No one in the office seems to wear any sort of name tag. A little disconcerting but if that's all it was I wouldn't care. When the doctor finally came in she did not introduce herself - I found out her name as I was checking out and asking for a business card. The doctor called me by the incorrect name - no apology when I corrected her. And we aren't even to the medical stuff yet. I had three things for my first visit: 1. Confirm diagnosis of a rare condition. She said, 'You don't have that'. I asked her how she knew I didn't have it (looks exactly like the pictures, my daughter has it, and my daughter has a genetic variant (that she got at least 50% from me - she's homogeneous) giving her a high susceptibility-still waiting for my genetic test results) and her weird answer was, 'Because it is very rare'. My facial expression must have given my thoughts away because she went into a rant - something about, if I didn't want a doctor's opinion, why was I there? Then she said something about giving me a cream that would make my skin look smoother. I replied that I didn't need to have my skin appear smoother. I'm 66 years old and that ship has sailed. I dropped it and moved on. 2. Annual skin scan. I live alone and my mother had melanoma. I need this done each year. I've had the occasional biopsy but so far, no melanomas. She spent about 45 seconds looking at some of the exposed skin. She never lifted my long hair to examine my neck, nor my bangs to examine my forehead, etc. etc. etc. I'm used to my dermatologists taking a good 5-15 minutes and examining ALL of my skin. And every dermatologist, for more than 20 years, asks (some actually have freaked out) about a remnant under my right breast. It is very suspicious looking but I know it is what's left of a benign mole that was removed over 20 years ago (that mole was very suspicious looking and had begun bleeding). She didn't even notice it. Now that everything has sunk in, I'm not going back here. I will get another provider to do a proper exam. 3. My PCP wanted her to evaluate my 'lumps'. I have thousands of lumps under my skin and some are very large and some are painful. All are otherwise unexplained but generally are thought to be lipomas. My PCP thought there were too many to just be lipomas and wanted a dermatology opinion. Dr Landers elaborated that some lipomas can be cancerous (liposarcoma) but didn't pause long enough for me to tell her that I'm currently being diagnosed for a liposarcoma in my abdomen and that this was the main reason my PCP and I were discussing these lumps elsewhere. Rushing like this can be explained as efficiency, and I was trying to cut her some slack as I know that Dermatology in this area is severely impacted. This kind of rushing verges on malpractice, in my opinion. I'll be seeing a dermatologist who will actually examine me, with my history, before implying I'm making too much of something. I have been going to Dr. Landers and her colleague Emily (physician assistant) at Advanced Dermatology for about 5 years. They actually have immediately available appts which is a somewhat rare thing with Dermatology. They offer a variety of services (such as laser roseacea treatment and melasma treatment) and products too. read more

I feel like I need to agree with the reviewers that were unsatisfied with their appointment with Dr. Landers. One year ago I went to see her for a yearly check up. I will definitely NOT return to this dermatologist. She was so rushed on my first visit that I should have looked elsewhere to have my squamous cell ca removed from my face. The surgery itself was also rushed and the suturing was TERRIBLE. I had HUGE stitches and I now have a very lumpy scar ON MY FACE. I've had 4 other surgeries on my body in my lifetime and this is the worst suturing I've ever had. You would think a dermatologist would be really good at suturing, especially on someone's face. She was AWFUL. They also tried to charge me for my follow-up visit. I was told by two different people that the follow-up was included in the surgical procedure cost and still I received a bill. I had to call and forcefully get them to delete the charge. Again....I will NOT return. read more

I worked for this woman around 2011. I was an extern from a medical assistant school. She was so awful. She would literally throw the treatment chart at me in front of patients. Patients think they are in the right hands but just be aware of how they treat their staff. I remember an elderly woman getting a wound stitched up by the dr and another MA. They were just gossiping the entire time about patients and staff while this poor woman was underneath them. Hopefully she changed her ways and her mean staff. read more

I had a similar experience as others. I went for a routine skin check and she spent 2 min with me and didn't do a professional exam. I've had many in the past and this was unethical. She was rushed and didn't really focus on me. I had to go elsewhere and pay for a second exam which was thorough. I felt like I was on a conveyor belt and since I didn't want anything complex she couldn't be bothered. Do not go here if you want quality dermatology. read more

I have been taking a family member to see Dr. Landers for the past few months. I've been at every appointment and we finally have a diagnosis--it's an extremely rare condition and it's now being successfully treated. Dr Landers has taken the time to figure out this puzzle and has given us the best treatment for it. I genuinely think that if we had gone to another doctor, this would not have been diagnosed this quickly. I've also been in touch with her medical assistant, and I've had to move appointments around several times and her staff is helpful and kind. Every time I come to your office we are asked to pay before even seeing the doctor. My last appointment I paid $45.00 for one minute of her time. Then she had the audacity to say could I pay $70 for the medication. I said NO because I haven't worked for 20 months. So she offered an inferior medication. Then said it doesn't work as well "so come back in and I will order the best". So she makes an additional $45.00 which equals $90.00! Needless to say I will find another doctor who will give you more time and interest. read more

I'm Sure Dr. Landers is a very nice person, but this kind of bedside manner is absolutely not what I look for in a healthcare provider. I have chronic acne and all I really wanted to do was discuss some options. I've tried everything! Dr. Landers promptly prescribed me birth control (without even asking how I felt about taking b/c), two skin creams and a medicated face wash, she told me she'd see me in three months. This was about a 5 minute appointment. After three months of burning skin and hormones out of control I made my follow up appointment. I called to inform them I would be about 15 minutes late. Upon my arrival I was told that my appointment had been cancelled because I was 15 minutes late. I will never go back here. The bottom line: Dr. Landers has no bedside manner. Her office is understaffed and unprofessional. I felt like an inconvenience the entire time I was in her office. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PRACTICE. read more

I am inclined to write a review, not just to share my experience, but to also come to Dr Landers defense for the "not so great" reviews that have been done. She is by far one of the greatest dr's I have ever been to...&, unfortunately, I have been to A LOT. I wish she could be my pcp. My whole family goes to her. Not only does she have a great bedside manner (hugs at every appt), she is Fabulous at her profession. Yes she is very fast with her appointments but that does not discount her thoroughness, she's just that good! She has an incredibly trained eye for skin cancer (which I've had)...whether it's "suspicious" or just bothersome, she's on top of it. My stepson took acutane for acne & had to do frequent follow up appts & she was always through & wonderful w/him too. I just can't say enough about her! I personally think that her speed of appointments is only a reflection of her demand. Every time I go in there there is a room full of people. If you want a dr that has all the time in the world, then no, she may not be the right fit but if you want to be in the best hands medically & be treated kindly...then YES, she's your gal! I have had no issues with the rest of the staff or appointment making either...if that's any consolation ;) read more

If you are okay with a doctor keeping you waiting longer than your scheduled appointment time, quickly diagnosing you and then running out of the room without making any sort of personal connection, understanding your current skin care method or explaining how to care for your skin, this is the doc for you! My daughter saw her first and was concerned about the hastiness and lack of time the doctor spent with her. I thought, well she's busy and looks at skin all day so she likely just knows what she's doing. Then I went to her. At the first apt I waited about 20 minutes after my scheduled time before she saw me. She quickly diagnosed me as having "hundreds" of bumps on my face and told me to schedule a 30 minute apt for me to have them removed. Scheduled the 30 minutes apt, which she also showed up late to, she came in and now told me I had "thousands" of these bumps and she wouldn't be able to treat them all. Also let me know that I was getting a "screaming deal" for her to remove them at the cost I was charged. She then had me put on a rubber glove, put numbing cream on it and told me to rub it on the areas I wanted treated then left the room. I thought it was odd that a doctor would have a patient apply their own numbing cream, especially not knowing exactly what areas she planned on treating. She came back after about 15 minutes put some dots on my skin with a pen and then asked me where else I wanted the treatment, I pointed out the largest 2 bumps on my face that she somehow missed. I spent over an hour in her office for what I thought would be a full 30 minutes of her doing the full removal and only got about 15 minutes of her time with no aftercare instructions other than to stay out of the sun and was left dissatisfied with not getting the full treatment I was expecting. She is always overbooked and running in and out and back and forth between patients. BTW you can hear the people in the other rooms being treated and their conversations as the walls are paper thin. My advice if you are considering seeing her is to do a consultation and if you feel rushed and like you are not being heard, than know that this is how you will always be treated, it's not a one-off. read more

I have been treated for numerous issues by Dr. Landers and I really like her. Her "bedside manner" may throw some people off because she "cuts to the chase" quickly. She has made some very quick assessments on me that would seem like she was too busy or didn't care but she is very good and is always sympathetic to the costs of some of the meds and always tries to get samples or a coupon to help with the costs. And there have been times when she spent a lot longer with me when I know that she has a packed waiting room. I have recommended many of my friends to her and she has helped them a lot. If you want a warm and fuzzy doctor then maybe she is not the one for you but if you want a knowledgeable dermatologist who knows her stuff, then she is the doc for you. read more

I absolutely agree with the previous review. The same thing happened to me. Maeran Landers' office is overbooked, understaffed and you will be lucky to see her for even 10 minutes. I also had to stop her as she was trying to run out the door and I was told I need to call my insurance and then I could schedule another appointment. Haha.. That's not happening. read more

Doesn't listen to patients comes in tells you what you need and leaves in about 30 seconds and during the 30 second appointment her assistant comes in with her so she has her assistant write up some prescriptions you don't need then tells you to go to her receptionist to set up a follow up appointment in 2 weeks as she walks out the door going to the next patient waiting in the next room without even listening to a word you say. Weird. She also wanted me to check with my insurance if they would cover an expensive procedure that probably wasn't necessary. If you like rushed medical advice from a Doctor that doesn't listen and makes rushed diagnosis on her patients then this is your place. read more

I had my first visit today with Dr. Landers and I am delighted. The entire visit was prompt and efficient. I quickly explained my history and why I was there. She knew exactly what to do and did not waste time -- which I appreciate because personally I cannot stand going to the dermatologist. The rest of the staff were lovely. I actually had a very pleasant experience with Dr. Landers. I saw her for acne issues (my old Derm wouldn't prescribe accutane, so I was transferred to her). She listened to what I wanted, and after trying everything else with no success at my previous Derm, she helped me get rid of my acne. She educated me about everything, and made me feel very comfortable. I think she is a great doctor for someone who is more familiar with their own healthcare. If she says something looks fine, it's fine. I think her efficiency can be taken as a lack of empathy - but from my experience, she does her job well and helps you as quickly as she can. I appreciated her no-nonsense bedside manner, and didn't take it as unprofessionalism. She knows what she's talking about. I was always helped in a timely and friendly manner at this office, and Dr. Landers gave me a hug at my last appointment with her. read more

Dr. Landers is an amazing Doctor. She is professional and kind and always very respectful of my time. When I had several moles that needed excision due to sun damage, she didn't make me return another day ( which would have entailed extra time off work and another co-pay). Instead she treated me immediately and in a fraction of the time it took my last Doctor. Plus her work is very precise and well done. We highly recommend Dr. Landers. Our son had bumps on his arm that weren't going away, almost like bug bites. We contacted Dr. Landers and she was able to get us in right away, diagnosed the problem, and was able to find a very fast solution for the virus that was on our son's arm. It cleared it up very quickly and we haven't had any return. She offered us all of our options and her advice based on her experience. She was excellent with our 9 year old son, too. I've seen Dr. Landers MANY times over the years...for myself, my children, my husband AND I've sent ALL of my neighbors. She is efficient, honest, kind, super smart and conservative. (Which I appreciate so much). She is a physician with utmost respect for what is TRUELY needed and understands how to best accommodate those needs. She's not the type of person to "sell" you on the latest and greatest dermatological fanfare, however, is completely knowledgeable about those things should you want or need them. She has always been beneficial for me in that she looks out for me AND my pocketbook. Regarding children, Dr. Landers is an absolute wonder... My kids had unsightly molescum (sp?) behind their legs for years, in which my pediatrician left it untreated as it would "go away"...Dr. Landers understood the embarrassment of exposing their legs and treated it with tenderness and ease. Yes, Dr. Landers is efficient, but she is suspiciously hasty with her ballpoint pen and punch biopsy tool to do her predictable 3 punch biopsies per visit. God help you if you question whether or not they are really necessary. When I questioned her (the second year I saw her) about the necessity of a biopsy on a mole on my arm I had had since childhood, and it had not changed, she became cross and made me sign a form that said I was aware that I likely had melanoma. For the record, that same spot has been seen since then by 3 other highly qualified dermatologists, and not a single one even wanted to biopsy it -- even when I pointed out that another dermatologist told me it was melanoma. All I wanted was a conversation about whether it was necessary because the mole had not changed since I was a child. She had also circled moles in places I could not see -- I would have been receptive to those being biopsied -- but evidently all biopsies were off when I questioned the one on my arm. To add to the picture of her personality, after telling her assistant to get my signature on a statement stating that I was declining treatment, she saucily told me: by the way, your underwear is on inside out. I filed a complaint with the Oregon Board of Medicine, but they told me they do not weigh in on MD discretionary treatment. She may know her high-utilizers by name, but if you just go in for annual mole check ups, my opinion is that she butters her bread with biopsies and zero bedside manner.
