Tucked away in the small strip mall across from the entrance to the Jiffy Lube and Crew Car Wash is a nice place to check for your vinyl needs! After pulling into the shared lot, I entered the shop with the checkout counter on the right as you enter. The rest of the shop was filled with rows of albums (and some 45's) arranged by genre. As I browsed through the rock section, I noticed that all albums seemed to be wrapped in a plastic sleeve with the actual vinyl in the inner paper sleeve removed from the cardboard cover to show that the record was complete. Many of the covers had "new" labels on them, so I assume that meant they would be scratch free. The plastic sleeve was folded over and sealed with a bar code label that had the price for each album. The range for albums I checked out ran from around $5 to into the $20+ range depending upon the demand. (Some are even higher, but that's to be expected for hard to find or collectible editions.) There were also other genres and I was pleased to see so many artists, including independent ones, represented. No, they don't have every album, but that is probably limited by size of the store as much as anything. Still, you are free to browse and when asked, the owner was helpful. I travel a lot and when I have time, I like to visit used vinyl or book stores. I was in the Greenwood area and I saw this place in Yelp. I thought I would give it a try. The establishment is a bit on the small side. It was located in a strip mall adjacent to a busy intersection. Also I am the kind of guy who likes to find used treasures. I would say that 75% of the records at this place is new. Even the used records are a bit pricey. Plus the inventory is as large as you might see in some places. I walked off with four LP's that I thought were pretty decent and a CD that was put out by a local band. Total tab, $65. If I was in the area again, I think I would try a different store. read more

I need more time here. I stopped in on my way to a friend's house and only had about 15 minutes. For serious I wish I had more time. The store had some great gems that I haven't been able to find on the north side of town which will keep me coming back. I love music. And I love, adore and worship records. Yeah, vinyl. I always have and always will. Scratches, crackles & pops while listening to my albums? Doesn't bother me one iota. I can't even begin to explain my giddy excitement when I was driving down 135 South one day recently and saw the "Vinyl" sign. I nearly wrecked. This store is absolutely awesome. If you collect vinyl, just started buying vinyl, or are interested in purchasing a turntable (also sold here) so that you can begin buying & listening to records then THIS IS YOUR PLACE! I've been here a few times now, taken my time perusing the vinyl, and made new & used record album purchases at what I feel are very reasonable prices. Plus, I keep forgetting to ask the owner, but I believe he uses some special machinery on each & every used record to restore it into practically new condition. All of the used vinyl I've purchased sounds great. Not to mention, the album covers being in excellent condition and the album cover being enclosed in a protective sleeve. The owner (an extremely nice and humble guy) has a FB page for his shop which I highly recommend following because he has daily posts listing the new inventory that he's taken in and he posts some really cool songs/videos. Discovering a great, new, local music shop in Greenwood seems like the most unlikely of places. But, I was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon the Vinyl Rescue Project last week. The store is definitely new, but has some great potential. Trays of records, both new and old, line the walls and consume the center of the store. There's a great selection of jazz, rock, soundtracks, classical, pop, with everything from 1950s to the present day. All the vintage records appeared to be in great shape and at reasonable prices. I picked up an original Simon and Garfunkel "Bridge Over Troubled Waters" LP for $4! Can't beat the prices and the quality. The store offers new record players for sale and the store owner was more than willing to provide us with a demonstration of their quality. He took the time to explain to us the different features of each and let us know what we would be getting with each product. Needless to say, I foresee a new record player in our future. I am looking forward to coming back for a return visit to see what new records have been added to the store's inventory. I hope others will check out the Vinyl Rescue Project - it gives hope that more local businesses will open in Greenwood. read more

It was by chance that I stumbled across this gem on Indy's South-side. Danny has a great selection of new and used records. Every used record is played to ensure that a customer won't be disappointed. Danny is also more than happy to try and track down specific records for his customers. I visited this store to buy some vinyl records for my husband because I had bought him a record player for Christmas. They had a large selection of records and the shop owner was patient with me while I asked for recommendations and thoughts on albums from artists I was unfamiliar with. Unfortunately, the record player didn't work out as my husband's main gift, therefore the records had to be returned. The receipt stated 7 day return policy and it was day 8. My husband went back to see if the shop owner would consider accepting our return and it was accepted graciously and quickly. If we ever need to purchase vinyl records in the future, I would absolutely return to this shop. read more

This place is cool. Being inside and shopping around lends one an experience of discovery helps to recharge the batteries of a music lover in an age of Pandora and Spotify. The selection here is really respectable as I can always find something to take home between the old classics and new releases. The Vinyl Rescue Project is a fabulous store with a great selection of all new and used LP's all in great shape. Danny, the owner, cleans and plays all the records that come threw the shop to ensure quality! You can't beat the prices either. Everything is a fair price, you won't find a better selection, with the quality of albums, and prices at any other location on the south side! I've been going here almost twice a week if not more since November, and almost every time I walk in there I find something new. He adds stuff daily, so you never know what you could find! This is a great shop and is very convenient on the south side so people on this side of town do not have to drive all the way to Broad Ripple. Danny is a really good dude and loves to talk about the business and new stuff arriving at the store. I like that he plays all sorts of music in the store to suit listeners of all genres. I would highly recommend this shop not only if you are in the area, but even if you live in other areas of Indianapolis. His used vinyl is fairly priced and the store has tons of new albums to choose from. I enjoy my time browsing the store every time I am there and also Danny's friendliness to customers. Decent selection of newer titles Only common older stuff and not very much of that. The biggest problem with this store is the fact that the owner plays the music so damn LOUD. He has turntables for you to listen to the vinyl before you buy it, but right beside the turntable(s) he has speakers blaring away, literally right into your ears. This prevents you from being able to actually listen to the quality of the vinyl you're interested in purchasing. When asked to lower the volume so you can test the vinyl you're interested in buying, he will, but not enough to make a difference, and if the look on his face is an indicator of how he feels about turning it down, well, I think it's safe to say that it pisses him off. My suggestion, if you already know what you want to buy (new vinyl) and if VRP is close to your house, Mehhh, it'll do. If you're going there to discover new music (used) and want to listen to it via the provided turntables and headphones, well, don't bother, because you won't be able to hear the music you're interested in, you'll have to listen to the music Danny is interested in. read more

I absolutely love Vinyl Recsue Project! Great selection of both used and new vinyl...found a few used albums that I had not been able to find anywhere else. Danny is great and knows his stuff. He listens to everything before he will sell it to make sure you're getting nothing but quality. There is a listening station to play any used vinyl...this is great for finding artists that may be new to you! I love Record Stores and visit many of them in Indianapolis. VRP has the cleanest used records in town and a good selection of new ones. I also appreciate the fact that everything is alphabetized perfectly - if I am looking for something specific I know where it is going to be. Greenwood is not close to where I live, but I try to get to there once a month because it is always worth the trip. read more
