I was in my first day of the Landmark forum and was feeling very tired from lack of sleep the night before due to some personal issues which I am dealing with. I was standing up in the back of the room to stretch when approached by one of the supervisors who asked me if I was feeling all right. Upon explaining my lack of sleep, she asked if I thought I would get more the next night, to which I replied "probably not." At the next break, she took me aside and told me they were going to give me a FULL REFUND because they felt that to get the full benefits of the program I should get more sleep, and that I could reschedule at any time without penalty. After 9 hours in the program, I will say that I started to make some very powerful connections to events in my life which had limited me, and I am very interested to complete the course to learn where these transformed ways of thinking might open up greater potential for my future. So for those of you who think this program is just about someone trying to take your money, think again. I will be rescheduling as soon as my schedule permits. read more

I work for a personal growth business similar to that of Landmark Education. I highly recommend the Forum and seminars as I do the company I work for. Doing this type of education is being immersed in a different way of living, one of personal responsibility, commitment and integrity. What isn't good about that when you think about the alternative? I think it's bizarre when people write about "spending lots of dollars and hours on self-help crap", yet how many hours and dollars are spent by us Americans on mind-numbing shows on television, scrolling the internet and eating artificial food (I include myself in this mix!)? For anyone interested in learning about a different way of living and an expansion of consciousness, the Forum, or any like it, are such a mind-expanding experience. read more

I did the Landmark Forum in 2007 when I was a PhD student who was supposed to write my thesis but somehow always found better stuff to do. A colleague who was a fellow tutor told me about the course. I did it. It helped. Basically it's a collection of tools that enable you to identify and overcome barriers that stand between you and what you want. Now, 6 years later, I still find the tools useful in my career (I completed my PhD, won a postdoc and started a US-based business while doing fieldwork for the postdoc in different countries). If there's anything you think you can do, or dream about, but have not been successful, not sure how to go about it, or not having the confidence - perhaps try this course. First off, I'm a big, big fan of Landmark Education. Reading the other negative reviews I would like to offer another perspective. The enthusiasm of the graduates to have their friends sign up for this program is just that, enthusiasm. The resistance to signing up for this program is just that, resistance. What happens when an irresistible force meets and immovable object? Pressure. Sooner or later one of the two gives up. Either the graduates quits and stops sharing, or the potential graduate surrenders to the contribution and chooses to participate. The Landmark Forum was the most positive, life-changing weekend of my life. Since doing this, I have had massive breakthroughs in productivity, managing my money, relationships with women and my family, travel, business... I could go on. There isn't an area of my life that hasn't been positively impacted by what I got from this course. That said, it isn't for everyone. I had a good experience with Landmark and then I felt like all they wanted was more and more money. I signed up for a second course and when the dates did not work with my work schedule, they wanted to charge me more and more to do the program. I ultimately lost over $500 and speant over $1000 with them. Good program, poor communication with their internal staff. read more

Participating the Landmark was a roller coaster ride of emotions. It's very confronting. It's hard to take an honest look at one's life and realize that you're at the cause of everything. While at first this education was hard for me to swallow, I've come to learn that this is the best real-life application education out there! It has profoundly changed my life, my relationships, and my understanding of self and our world. Hey -- I know Landmark isn't everybody's cup of tea. You don't have to do it, so treat it like a restaurant and just don't go there if you don't like it. It's remarkable experience for most who attend, leaving an individual with a powerful life lasting shift in how the world occurs for them. For me the experience was radical and amazing. I got this place recommended from a friend. My experience with Landmark has made me disappointed with the way I was misguided and their message. Be aware after my experience: When I signed up my friend wanted me to join to the point where I think they received some compensation or something for signing up. I think they train them to go out and hunt new members. I couldn't make it to one of their seminar and paid $35 to transfer the course. I was never told there was a limit or that someone I was obligated to not transfer. My friend actually transferred courses like 3 or 4 times before he attended the course in a different city. I have been having work issues and time constraints, so I needed another transfer. I got a call from a representative named Alex. He was so insentience and not reasonable. He said that the Chicago office has new staff and they cannot do what other offices do. During our conversation, I didn't like the way their course works nor did I think their method was to blame me for all my problems and my work situation. One example he tried to tell me, "if I was offering you 10,000 to come to the seminar would you come...." That is a pretty bad example and has nothing to do with my request.I do not have to explain my issues to them. I spent like 30 minutes on the phone with them before I was put on hold and then disconnected. Alex never mentioned his qualifications for giving me advice or being a counselor/instructor. I told him I was working on coming to the seminar. The worst part was when I received an email stating that my seminar was cancelled without my consent or any refund. What right or permission do they have to just cancel my seminar without my authorization. The person was probably the manager that stated they I could only transfer once, which is not true. I do not trust the Landmark Chicago office and it was so wrong what they did to me. I plan to escalate this further and tell everyone who they really are based on my experience. read more

Funny that you see either 5 stas or 1... Anywhere you look you get extremes, good or bad, for Landmark Ed. Never in the middle. Another interesting observation is that 5 stars are always from people who have 1st-hand knowledge having taken the course(s) While the negative reviews are always from people who never took the course and only basing it on hearsay, rumors and assumptions. I'd like to think I'd be happy if my friends travelled to Europe and made new friends in the process. I can't complaint so far, seen both positive results and the occasional no-result but have yet to witness a bad result from this in people. read more

I am just too polite. Last year, a different co-worker tried to recruit me into a different cult, and I managed not to scream in terror in front of her. This year, a similar situation. Sigh. Note to self: scream loudly and get restraining orders. I work at a well known international not-for-profit in which a substantial number of professionals have been recruited into the Forum. After recruitment, these people are practically impossible to motivate on any level except that which exists in their non-realistic, cult-conceived framework. Unfortunately, the result of their indoctrination is shoddier work with better justifications and arguments coupled with a passive and active aggression against those that don't join their little club. What a sad bunch of sacks--Landmark Forum is a racket. Run away. I was heavily recruited, but refused to break out the wallet. Thank goodness for the internet. Instead of going to the Forum, I just watched the French documentary where they snuck a camera into one of the sessions. Those French are a sensible lot--the Forum is illegal in that country. The cult members I work with are really a mess. IMHO They think this organization has helped them, and constantly speak about their life-changing experiences (constantly). I can assure you, it didn't help their work habits or skill-sets, and only other Forum members can tolerate them for any period of time. I could summarize this whole weekend in 5 sentences and you can save your time and money. It's like a weekend of motivational speaking where they teach you 1. Let go of the past it's not your future. 2. Don't make stories in your head look at what the situation really is 3. Look at the payoff vs. cost. It's not always worth it to be right it's more worth it to be happy. If you have good friends in life , they can teach you this much. They force you to confront people from you're past and forgive them. They put you on a high so that you can act impulsively and call everyone. On top of that they push the advanced courses for another 500+ and basically harass you to invite people to the graduation so that everyone around you is on the same page. BS, they just want more $$$. Save your time and money, if you need help try out a conventional psychologist. I don't know what training these people have in psychology which is also dangerous. Many of the folks at landmark may have something more serious such as depression, where a weekend of someone telling at you to be happy will not help. Also if you disagree with anything taught, they will humiliate you in front of all 120+ people there and basically you have no choice left but to agree with them. read more

it's been just about a year since i've done the landmark forum, and i've had my ups and downs, doubts and affirmations. here's some of the skills you pick up and hone: - being present, and savoring the moment (http://goo.gl/dfB9D) - forgiving yourself and embracing your humanity whenever you feel like you did anything wrong (in my case, just waking up late triggers my "make self wrong" impulse) - communicating with people about things that actual matter to you and them - embracing possibilities that seem impossible, and often realizing they were quite simple here's some of the challenges you'll face: - your ego will constantly try to pull you back into a cynical and selfish mindset - people around you will become confused, irritated, and possibly even antagonistic at your enthusiasm and optimism - intellectual confusion: this isn't simple stuff, the education tries to redefine certain terms you think in intuitively such that you'll react to situations powerfully instead of nihilistically - the institutional impulse to have you continue in the education: each person is different, and it often makes sense for someone to slow down a bit because trying to rewrite such fundamental parts of themselves whilst holding true to existing commitments can be ultimately stress inducing and not fun. i think the institution of Landmark can occasionally let their 'scripts' prevent them from truly listening to what an individual is communicating, and working with them. note that this is an aspect of their culture they are aware of and are actively trying to remedy. ultimately after a year this has been incredibly worthwhile for me. i'm at a better place in terms of happiness, work responsibilities and compensation, relationships with friends and family, and life goals i really trust this institution, and would recommend the education to anyone read more

I recently attended landmark forum. A person gets on the stage and talks about personal married life. This person does not love his/her significant other (SE) and is very confused. The coach bluntly COMMANDS to "You need to start loving your SE.. Give him/her what he/she needs, LOVE". This person contested that no, this person has lost all the love for the SE and is trying to figure out what to do with the relationship. The coach still did not listen and COMMANDED again, "you need to give your SE what he/she needs, that is LOVE". And then he said, "Did you promise SE that you will love him/her when you got married". This is where i knew this forum is not for me. This is brainwashing and not effective coaching. The person also asked the coach "do you not believe in the idea of divorce" but the coach changed the topic. They aren't helping people out but enforcing people to follow their own ideas of life, as evident in this scenario. I would've expected the coach to explore why this person lost love in the significant other (SE) and to specifically address those underlying issues. He took a path to brainwash this person and asking to blindly and fakely LOVE the SE without working through those things that may have caused the loss of love. I actually chatted with the person after the session and I expressed my disagreement with what this person heard from the coach. Here are my thoughts on Pros and Cons of the forum in general Pros: 1) Got to meet some very cool people who are willing to expose their vulnerable side. I did not take any numbers or found ways to stay in touch but them. I don't think anyone does after the level of detail they expose. 2) You realize that most people go through some very horrible things. You aren't alone in all the struggles in life and there are many people who go through the same or even worse in life. 3) Some themes are useful. Maybe 1-3% of the course was beneficial. However, that paired with how much money you spend, and how much time i spent away from my family, just does not yield a positive ROI. Its actually fairly negative ROI. 4) It gives people another venue to take control of their life and start thinking about how to fix things. It encourages people to start talking to others in a more honest way and resolve personal disputes or differences in life. I love that message and the main reason why i'm giving this forum an average rating. Cons: 1) This is NOT a substitute for an effective therapy. I hope people don't take this as a therapy as that would be very dangerous. The entire program follows an agenda that is not directly aligned to your goals in life. 2) They leverage and abuse the emotional side of people. Its like watching a very sad soap opera or drama enriched movie -- that lasts for 3 days, 11 hours a day straight. 3) Coach's demeanor, coaching style, and communication is that of a person who is scolding people and has an agenda to highlight the effectiveness of the program rather than really truly helping people out. 4) They do a LOT of marketing throughout the program to cross-sell or up-sell other classes. 5) Although i met some very cool people, I had a hard-time connecting with people. I am someone who is smart with an IQ of 160, in a leader position at work, and interact with many professionals throughout my life. I felt most people i met where not the same. They are people who had drug addictions, have been homeless, had sever emotional problems or trauma, and want to play the "Victim" card more than trying to fix their life. 6) I found the helper of the leader very shady. I'm not even sure what most of them were doing in the back other than taking some notes as they looked at different people. Some of them were obnoxious. 7) They emphasize a lot about telling people about the landmark forum and promote the program for you. Its actually REQUIRED to contact people throughout the program and get them in. From writing people where you tell people about the landmark forum, to calling them, bringing people in for free, etc. they are all about forcing marketing through people. Not cool!!!! Before going into the course I had trouble making choices. I talked to everyone all of the time about the right thing for me to do was. Everyone had different opinions so I was never in action. I spent a lot of time talking. Basically, I made it other people's responsibility that my life turns out. During the course I saw what was stopping me from moving on and trusting myself. Once I had that insight it was easy to make changes. I walked into the course unsure if I should move, could find the kind of house I was looking for, not sure what career move I should make and even what state I wanted to live in. Within 3 months of completing the weekend program I found the house, the job (making more money I expected) and decided to stay in the state I was in (Minnesota). I stopped waiting for the illusive "someday" and instead caused my life to be awesome now. My whole way of thinking has changed. I now take chances and make choices based on what is right for me, not what other people think. I am confident about who I am and what I want. It has been 10 years since I took the course and the training still impacts my life today. read more

I can't say enough about this education. It rocks! Logical methods of dealing with whatever life may deal you. It has given me tools for life. As a graduate you just want to share it with the people you love. I would never get my family and friends into something that is anything but beneficial to their lives. I was approached by an old boyfriend of mine to look into this, but what kind of had me wondering was how he didnt seem to tell me what the cost of this program is. The high pressure sales pitch maybe one of the things members do to get a discount on their continuing lessons or to gain points for bringing in new people. I was floored when I saw other reviews saying that you could be shelling out a lot of money nearly a grand to go through the program. I am all for what helps one improve their lives, but when you can't tell someone what the financial cost to do this program makes people wonder if this is a cult. I would consult with Landmark Education's website to determine if their program and services are appropriate for your needs before you start investing large sums of money to take classes and attending seminars. To the one who had been snapped at by someone for not attending a "manditory" meeting due to missing a flight should have had their attitude adjusted that was uncalled for and right there made me think if this person had to deal with the rude and unprofessional behavior what makes anyone think that it's acceptable to be spoken to that way. I've participated in Landmark since 1987 and it has given me the tools to start my own business. Its a great place for being coached and experiencing accountability. It has allowed me to let go of a lot of baggage and to move forward in my life. Every time I get stuck I sign up for a seminar, more things get done and I don't feel as lonely because I'm dealing with intelligent people who care about others. It keeps me accountable to myself and others. I think its a great program if you are committed to results and not questioning the methods. Its amazing how people will take a prescription drug not knowing what's in the stuff and how harmful it is and not question the doctor, but when it comes to education they get so worried as to what it will do to them! What horseradish! As if they were afraid that something irriversible is going to happen to their mind! This is another way to find fault and blame so they don't have to be responsible for their plight in life. This Forum is for you all who have an opinion of a course you don't know anything about! And for those who have attempted it and have a story about it are more committed totheir story than what they need to do to make their life work. When I say this, I am also saying this to myself as it is what I need to say whenever I find myself feeling sorry for myself, it gets me out of that mindset. The Forum is for those people who have the power to think for themselves, try things on and have the courage to make a choice! The Forum is a paradigm, a tool. If it speaks to you, fine. There are many paths to becoming self realized, and this could be one of the stepping stones on your journey. I don't thing there is anything "wrong" with the program. It just doesn't resonate "cleanly" with me. There is a kind of arrogance and pretentiousness about it, and the repetitive sales-pitches are classic for today's "everything is marketing" culture. It isn't a cult (you CAN escape), but it is definitely cult-ish. Once someone finds their own identity, they can let go of Landmark filling up a page in that book. read more

I love Landmark. I completed both the forum and the advance. It is what you get out of it and how you use it. It's not "cult" like. No one forces you to stay and no one hounds you after you complete. You are in control of what you get out of it. You can continue if you want. One of the best parts, is the people you get to meet and interactive with. Some of them will become long time friends. Somethigs I've taken away and live by daily. You cannot control what happened in the past. The past is done and over. You can live for today and your future. Live in the moment. Be athentic. Try to see the good in all things. Be positive. That's it - I may not live this 100% of the time, but I constantly remind myself. You could probably read a couple of books and get the same interaction,but you will not get to spend 3.5 days with amazing people. There are really not rules while in the course. Be considerate to the presentor, but that's respect. You can take a break, eat, chew gum, or leave whenever you want. The locations are not so great and the rooms are a bit blah. I think this is done on purpose, but don't know for sure. I took my avance in Ft Lauderdale and it was about the same as Chicago. They do push the program and at time does feel like an infomerical, but I tuned that out. I totally recommend it. read more

I am a Clinical Psychologist and have participated in The Forum and many of the courses Landmark Education offers to people who have done The Forum. I definitely agree with the Harris Survey that found that 9 out of 10 people surveyed thought The Forum was one of the best things they ever did. It has influenced virtually every aspect of my life in a positive way -- my relationship with my parents, my daughter, my ex-wife, the people who come to me as a therapist, and participants in workshops I have conducted in large corporations. About this last one, leading workshops (often to large groups) -- I was a shy, bashful person, usually afraid to even raise my hand in a seminar. To go from that to an animated, effective, playing-full-out course leader was hardly likely before I did the Forum. It allowed me to see that I had a great deal to say about who I was, what I could do, and how I wanted my future to be, and that my fears did not have to stop me from anything. If you are looking to bloggers for useful information in helping you decide whether or not to do The Forum, go for it! --- I guarantee that once you get into it, you will find overwhelmingly positive reviews (from people who actually participated in the work) compared to negative ones (often from people who have not). read more

I took the forum in 2000 and it has forever altered the way I see myself and that in turn affects how others see me. I see that I am not a victim of my circumstances. Instead I see that I create each moment and as long as I take responsibility for that, I can create the next moment. My present happiness is mine alone to create. The Landmark Forum was the most impactful program I have ever done!! It was like 400 sessions of therapy in one weekend. Landmark has impacted every area of my life. Relationships, career, family...everything has improved dramatically from the time I did the program. My life was never the same after I attended this 3 day and an evening course in downtown Chicago. My life was fine before I took the Landmark Forum. I had an okay job; I had roommates that came and went; bad dates, lots of bills, and no time to even think about what I wanted for my life. As I look back, I was resigned, angry, a martyr, and suffered in every area of my life and I didn't even know it. I fought with everyone in my family all the time. I spent years in psychotherapy which didn't make a bit of difference. I really liked the Forum and readily signed up for the advanced class which I just completed and did Not like for numerous reasons. Have called and left a message to express too them my distaste and my wanting a refund, but of course no return phone call. Our trainer yelled at us most of the time. We had no integrity if we didnt call two people every break, dinner and evening when we got out at 11:30 pm to enroll them in our possibilities of being and invite them to graduation. Graduation is to put pressure on them to do the course. When we signed up we were told we didnt have to speak however several of our group leaders said they were cussed out by the trainer because they were not getting their group members to volunteer to go up to the mic and speak. We were also told if we cared about others we would figure out how to stop the killings in Chicago. On top of that we were told we were flunking this self growth seminar. Really! I will never ever ever do another traing with them after this one and wish I could get my $ back. read more

Their hard sell is a little bit creepy, as is the sense of peer pressure to participate, but they treated me with respect and calm concern throughout the entirety of my process of signing up, as well as much later when I cancelled my registration and requested a refund. Cancelling my registration was a challenge and required five separate phone calls. I am not including the names of the associates I spoke with so as not to get anyone in trouble, since I believe it was just a misunderstanding or a training misstep: 1. I called to cancel, had my name and number taken down with a promise to receive a response within 24 hours. 2. 30 hours went by, so I called back, and was told that my cancellation had already been processed. I received no confirmation of cancellation. 3. I called back to request a receipt of cancellation. I received an email a couple hours later, which was just a verbatim copy of my original registration receipt. 4. I called back and was placed on hold for longer than 20 minutes. There was no hold music, nor did the person I spoke with check in with me to reassure me that I had not been forgotten or ignored. I hung up, called back, and spoke with a different representative who immediately connected me to my original point of contact. I highlighted the oversight on the cancellation receipt email and requested a more explicit receipt of cancellation. I never received the requested receipt of cancellation. 5. The next morning, I received an email stating that my registration payment would be due soon. I called back and spoke to a different individual who handled my issue completely and quickly, and I immediately received an email that explicitly stated my cancellation. The process overall was somewhat stressful and time-consuming, but in the end I was able to achieve my intended result. I wish Landmark Forum well and hold no grudge against them, and I hope all who seek their assistance find what they are looking for. I cannot, in good conscience, give them a bad review, because my overall experience was positive, despite the difficulty I encountered when seeking cancellation. A suggestion I would like to make: consider investing in slightly more-automated processes; the constant human contact throughout every process is remarkable and unheard of in modern business, and it is appreciated. On the flip side, a lot of things were handled as verbal promises over the phone and some things seemed to take a long time (such as looking up my records), indicating to me that perhaps every file is a physical paper file, rather than being stored in a computerised database. These courses are up there as the best things I have ever done in my life and it continues to rock my world over and over again - love it, don't need it, and I keep going back for more because it never stops fueling my commitment to an amazing life that works in every way. I just want to say this, to all you people who are thinking or have started using Landmark. The minute an organization starts to use their own lingo and create a language that is "unique" and known only to people within the circle, this is a sign of a cult. Landmark poses as an objective educational organization and this way allures professionals, educated and smart people who are looking for answers or to better their lives. But once you're there for a period of time, like I was, you will start to realize, if you're smart enough, that they use the cult approach to make people stay and spend more money. I'm sure their intentions are also to educate but they realize that they will make more money by applying a cult -like approach (anyway, that's how I see it) because someone up at the top really likes money. Landmark kind of puts you under a spell and I don't like that. It reminds me of a guy who was with me at Landmark and a year later I met him on the street and he had this glow in his eyes. awesome and fun if you have a positive attitude... like winning $1,000,000 brings out who you really are, this process also does but, the cleaner version without all of the hang ups... some people love their hang ups and think that it makes them cool to have them so they make excises to keep them, hence people either love or hate 'the work;. It was one of the hardest, most frustrating, and liberating things I've done. Believe me, throughout the experience I was the worlds biggest skeptic. I'd googled and got a LOT of information saying it's a cult. I was so ready to walk out on numerous occasions, and not to mention their sales tactics are through the roof overboard! However, I'd paid to take the course and people kept saying "just stay till the end", so I did, and I'm glad that I did!. While not all of the exercises applied to me, what I chose to take away from the experience was amazing (I learned things about myself and my reactions that I wasn't aware of). I'd recommend it, but just be warned, it'll be a pretty frustrating experience. Also, take from it what you need, and don't feel pressured to go any further (ie. taking more and more courses). Some people get fanatical which makes it seem cultish. I got some good things that I can apply to my everyday life, and I'm leaving it at that. read more
