Dr. Weston is the worlds greatest dentist. Since my childhood dentist retired 10 years ago I have not found a comparable dentist. But Landmark dental (please done tell my childhood dentist) are the best dentist with the best bedside manner I have ever experienced. I am sitting here, watching my daughter get 2 fillings and Dr is making her laugh and explaining things to her in a way she can understand. Landmark Dental is a nice practice with very friendly staff and kind and caring dentists. The facility is nicely decorated, the fixtures are vibrant and colorful, and the instruments are up to date with the times. My only "gripe" is the fact that they are out of network with Delta Dental and I wasn't able to receive accurate information regarding my visit until AFTER I booked and appointment for my X-rays and a cleaning. This maybe is not such a big deal for some but I explicitly called and asked if my insurance would be accepted and if they were an IN network provider. The person over the phone asked for my Social Security number, date of birth, and my name so she could look into this for me. I was told that my insurance would cover my visit as well as MOST subsequent dental work. However, after a visit with the dentist, I was given a proposed plan for a deep cleaning and an anticipated bill of over $500 bucks. It was only after more probing during my in person visit that I discovered this location is a Delta "premier" provider aka "out of PPO network". Now I'm forced to find another dentist and do ANOTHER diagnostic exam with a new provider to get established at an in network location. Don't get me wrong, I would have loved to have stayed with this dental group. Their staff are very kind and I loved the dentist. Im a new patient so I came in for an initial appt which included: X-Rays, initial exam, and a cleaning. Dr. Westin explained everything he was doing in layman's terms, which I greatly appreciated. Bills, bills, bills! This is the first time in my life that I've ever been nickeled-and-dimed by a dental office. With strong, healthy teeth and lifelong dental insurance, I've never paid out of pocket for routine check-up and cleaning in my life--even when something wasn't fully covered, the dental offices absorbed the cost for any routine cleaning/X-rays, fluoride treatments, and even some special things like varnish or custom night guards. Whether in New York or California, this was always the case. Except for Landmark. This was just a basic (first) checkup and cleaning. When I booked my appointment, they told me they accepted my insurance, no issue. When I checked in, they told me my copayment was $31.50. I thought this was unusual, but paid it on the spot. During my cleaning, everything was about up-charges. You want your teeth scaled during the cleaning? That will be extra (skipped it). You want fluoride varnish? That will be extra (skipped it). There was nothing special about this cleaning, except for how many of the "usual" services were skipped. And how weird that even in a clinical setting, fees dominated the conversation. Weeks later, they started texting me: they say I now owe ~$110 more because the office didn't like Delta Dental's negotiated service rates and are billing me the balance. Delta pays $174.60 for exam + X-rays + basic cleaning, but Landmark wants $315 and decided that I owe the balance. If Landmark disagreed with Delta Dental's negotiated rates, why didn't they mention that when they told me they fully accepted my insurance plan? Offices were fine--nothing more modern or cutting-edge than my previous dentists--so I'll add back in a star. But for their billing practices it sounds like I must take my choppers elsewhere. read more

I came to Dr. Westin's for a second option after another top rated clinic in Santa Cruz had quoted me $2600 of work, which sounded entirely suspicious, and I'm sure glad that I did! As it turned out, I only needed $640 of work, so by getting a second opinion, I not only saved a lot of money, I also met a really great dentist. I can honestly say that Dr Weston is the most knowledgeable dentist I've ever been to. He's exactly the combination of talents I want in my dentist: personable, and extremely knowledgeable about his trade. Here are the top 6 reasons I think Dr Westin and his staff are amazing. [1] Super Knowledgeable I found Dr Westin to be extremely knowledgeable about everything dentistry. He gave me detailed information about what was going on with my teeth and an excellent second option. He answered every question I had. He explained the whole process of how a cavity forms in detail, right down to the chemistry that creates them. I don't know about anyone else, but I sure want a doctor who so thoroughly understands his field working on my teeth - you can sign me up for that state-of-the-art level of care please! [2] A great deal for new patients This office has a $80 special for first time patient's x-rays and exam. I brought my husband which means that the total with a cleaning was only $117. I had paid nearly $320 at another clinic for the same service - and they had inflated the amount of work that I had needed to have done. [3] Excellent Customer Service Dr Westin's and his staff are on top of their game for customer service. In the office, everything is a smooth experience. Dr Westin has specially invited me on more than one occasion to give him feedback on anything they can improve in the clinic. Outside the clinic, his staff even text and check in after a filling to make sure I'm feeling alright. He even totally went the extra mile - my husband had been planning to come in later in the day for his first appointment, but when he came in with me to support me as I had my first filling done, they rescheduled his appointment and took him right after my work was done so we didn't have to make a second trip. This meant that Dr. Westin cleaned my husband's teeth himself. Another point that completely won us over as clients. [4] Understands Consent I went to another clinic in the Santa Cruz area, and they had a "our way or the highway" attitude. They quoted me thousands of dollars of work, claimed that it all had to be done right away (wouldn't prioritize the work when I asked), and made it seem as though they would stop providing cleaning and treatment if you don't do things their way. Dr. Westin's office feels just the opposite. He gives you detailed information, and then he and his staff let you make the decisions around what work you will get done, and when. I'm generally pretty sensitive so one I was in the chair, I was so pleased that Dr Westin was very patient with me. When I needed to take a couple of breaks, he reassured me it wasn't a problem, that he had time. He left it up to me to let him know when I needed breaks and gave me a real feeling of "calling the shots", which is great, because that helps me feel like a participant in my dental care. [5] Prioritized for me the Work I needed to have done Dr Westin gave me priorities on the dental work I needed to have done. For example, he told me that one tooth needed to be done in the next month or two or it could go to a crown and let me know some other areas have some decay but aren't ready for the drill yet. These are areas that the other clinic I had gone to had tried to have me filled as cavities. He also suggested that I can try fluoride toothpaste to try to turn them those areas of decay, giving me some sense of hope as I was leaving his clinic (instead of slightly traumatized by the quote for $2600 and no hope I got from the other clinic I went to). [6] Competitive prices (when paying out of pocket) When I priced out my dental work, the other clinic I had gone to had prices out each of my fillings at $20-80 more than Dr. Westin's clinic. When my husband had his teeth cleaned, they charged $20 less for the teeth cleaning than the other clinic I had gone to. He couldn"t help me out with a full restoration that I required but the clinic is clean and they're schedule is patient friendly especially when compared with other SantaCruz outfits. I have been a patient of Dr. Weston for a few years. I went in for a deep cleaning a few months ago. Dr. Weston then said that 1 part was a regular cleaning and not a deep cleaning. I asked the receptionist to change the bill. When I received the bill in the mail a few weeks later, nothing was changed. I then called and told them that my insurance should cover the rest. She informed me that she would call my Insurance and get back to me the same day. It has been 2 months and now I get a phone call saying that I haven't paid my bill. I told her that Dr. Weston said that 1 part was a regular cleaning and the bill should be adjusted to refelect this. She says that all 4 parts were a deep cleaning , and that maybe Dr. Weston mispoke. This is very unprofessional in my opinion. I inderstand that it's a misunderstanding but as a person with a finite income, maybe choose your words more carefully in the future. Great dentists. My husband and I went from pretty poor dental hygiene to getting on the right track. (My husband hadn't seen a dentist in decades, and I was a once every 3-5 years type of patient.) They are decent dentists. They clean your teeth. Do everything dentists are supposed to do. Do not incur much pain during cleanings. I was with them for a couple years. I left them because upon my first visit they said I had 4 cavities, after being cavity free my entire life. I had the fillings done, which the dentist said were so small we had to use the more expensive filling. I was okay with that because I wanted the white filling anyways. Was unhappy with having to return after fillings to have my bite adjusted, was teased for being the "princess and the pea" sensitive about my fillings. That wasn't horrible until I had my second x-Ray and was told I had 6 more cavities despite using the fancy mouthwash and toothpaste they recommended. Again, strange after no cavities in my life. Had the work done, had to go back 3 times to get bite adjusted, teased for sensitivity again like it was my fault the bite wasn't right because I was too sensitive. Was unable to floss on a particular tooth that had been filled for 6 months. Still have bite sensitivity on another tooth. I left to a new dentist. My new dentist told me, he could not say for certain, but his feeling was that if I had cavities they were very very small. That the Landmark dentist was very aggressive filling things before I had any pain or issues. I currently have zero cavities and a great review by my new dentist. I feel that these dentists swindled me for money due to my good insurance, which changed and resulted in me paying a lot out of pocket for the fillings. Sure, they can clean your teeth with minimal pain. But I feel they are grubbing for money by performing procedures that aren't as pressing as they inform their customer. Nothing personal. I wanted to wait until I got my wisdom teeth taken out before making the review. It'll be a long one, but: Short version: best dentist ever. No joke. I've seen a lot of dentists in my life and Dr. Weston/Dr. Tran are definitely the best I've seen. Long Version: I first visited Landmark Dental Group because I needed to get my teeth cleaned, and it just so happens Landmark Dental accepts my insurance. I was going to go to another dental group but they took forever to get back to me, so I decided to go with Landmark Dental. The cleaning procedure was great. Dr. Tran walked me through every step and told me exactly what she was doing and what I should watch out for, and also gave me advice on my wisdom teeth. She was very gentle and did not hurt at ALL. She was also good at keeping up a conversation (but not those awkward conversations where the doctor is asking you a question and has their hand in your mouth). It also helped that she's a UCSC alum, which made the doctor-patient relationship click that much easier! I also met Dr. Weston on the same day I went in to do the cleaning, and he was also very professional and very nice. Fast forward to this past Thursday (April 24th), I was back in the dental office again to get my lower left + right wisdom teeth out. This time it was Dr. Weston who did my procedure, and after all the freak stories I've heard from my friends about their wisdom teeth extraction I was kinda scared to be honest. But Dr. Weston and his dental assistant made the procedure smooth sailing with minimal pain. No pain at all during the extraction process, which was a LOT different than what I've heard from many others. There wasn't a whole lot of bleeding afterwards, and honestly I was able to talk within 20 minutes after leaving the dentist office. And since the extraction, I've had absolutely no pain at all except for the first day. I know it differs with every patient but I do believe a big part of it has to do with how good the doctor is. They are also really good about not forcing procedures and forcing things on you. I needed a night guard because I was grinding my teeth while I'm sleeping, and it would've cost about $500. But Dr. Tran was very upfront with me about how if cost was an issue, I can basically go to the local pharmacy and buy a night-guard and it would help with my teeth grinding just the same (although it won't be a perfect fit to my teeth, it still does the same job). As someone who's currently in college and has a tight budget, this is truly very much appreciated! Also, another wonderful thing about this dental group is that you can actually contact them by e-mail and they will typically get back to you within 1-2 business days. I've even gotten replies back the same day, and even sometimes at night from either one of the doctors when it is well after closing hours (aka they probably check the email at home and actually really care about their patients enough to spend personal time replying to emails). As someone who is meh about talking on the phone, this is a LIFESAVER. Absolutely love it. I have absolutely no complains about this dental group at ALL. Everything was phenomenal and both doctors were beyond wonderful. Not only were they all around professional, they were also very friendly and really care about you as a patient and sees you as an individual. I've referred one of my friend to this dental group and she already loves it as well. I don't know where I'll be after college but I will, without a doubt, come back to get any and all my dental procedures done. I had been embarassed about all the old, stained fillings in my front teeth, but because I have severe claustrophobia, I avoided the dentist until one day my front tooth broke! Still, I waited almost two weeks to get it fixed. (One reason I put it off is because another dentist I consulted said it would cost many thousands of dollars to fix my four front teeth.) However, I am so glad I saw Dr. Weston! Not only was he compassionate and professional, the work didn't cost what I feared it would. I really felt that he had my best interests in mind, including cost. Because of my extreme fearfulness, I went with IV sedation (it's either that, or hit me over the head with a rock--kidding, but just barely!) Dr. Weston and his fantastic staff made me feel comfortable. My husband sat in the room too, and he said that the dental team was efficient and professional. I grew up with regular dental visits but had a terrible experience in college that turned me off to dentists. Not afraid to admit...they terrified me. After 7 years (gross, I know) of not going, my girlfriend's harping on me final got to be enough of an incentive to face my fears and head in. Turns out, my concerns were a bit unfounded! Dr. Tran is amazing. I came here after having a negative experience at a nearby dentist. She was super professional and didn't badmouth the other dental office, despite their obvious unethical treatment plan and lack of thorough examination techniques. Dr. Tran provided the most thorough exam I've had. She didn't rush and explained the entire process which is very empowering for me as the patient to feel in control of my dental health. I have just gone through an amazing dental transformation over the past year thanks to the kind and gentle hands of Dr. Young & his team. The quality of treatment both in dental precision and in chairside trust and comfort is excellent. I can now smile confidently for the first time in my life. My treatment included the dental portion of 4 lower implants to replace teeth pulled by other dentists (that had not taken the time to explain how important it was to replace the teeth). I also had a crooked front tooth corrected through using veneers. I have had dental phobia for years. My wife goes with me to my appointments it was so bad. Really, really great. They were so nice and helpful! They were flexible with my appointment, spent time going over everything and giving me different options about price and timing on the procedures I needed, and gave me copies of my xrays for free, which my other dentist would not. I wish my dental insurance would cover them so that I could got back. This is an update to my review from 3 months ago. I found it buried out of sight because it was deemed "not pertinent". I have cut and pasted it below so folks can read it because it is pertinent AND accurate. In fact, if you dig down into Landmark Dental's reviews, you will find many more by other folks that will warn you of the same unscrupulous billing tendencies by Landmark Dental. This review is meant to help keep others in the community from being ripped off. I am still fighting with the collection agency that Dr. Weston has sent after me. I have proof that the "balance due" is a result of Landmark Dental charging more than my dental network allowed. Landmark Dental is no longer in the Cigna Network. Wonder why? Cigna takes it very seriously when dentists such as Dr. Weston over charge their members. Dishonest billing is one thing. Taking it to the point where it affects someones credit rating? You wonder what makes him tick? (please read my very important review from December below. It will save you a lot of trouble.) Beware, they will rip you off. No problem with their care but have taken my family elsewhere for dental care because of their billing. Long story short. They were In-network providers for my dental plan (which is very good), but I seemed to be paying a lot out of pocket. I normally don't pay much attention to these things, but like I said, I felt like I was paying a lot. So I started going back through my bills and also printed records from my dental plan. There were many instances where Landmark Dental had billed me a higher rate than was negotiated with my plan. I spent many hours combing through the records, I spelled out exactly what was wrong and sent them payment for the amount that I truly owed them.(there was a $300-$400 difference). Unfortunately Dr. Weston continued to bill me. After about 6 months of him continuously sending my bills for money I did not owe, he admitted that it was his mistake. Fast forward to 1 year later, I have taken my family to another dentist, but Dr. Weston continues to wrongly bill me for $204. There is never any itemization. Just a bill. I ignored them. Now I have a collection agency after me. I have excellent credit and always pay my bills. Now I must spend many more hours proving that the charge is wrong. Once again, I never had an issue with their dental care. But beware, they will try and cheat you on the bill! read more

My wife likes this place a lot and so do I. I got my check up and cleaning here today, so did she. She's pregnant, so her gum health/teeth are important more than ever. I drink a lot of soda and don't do anything special for my teeth, so I was happy to find out that after 8 years of dentist absence, I didn't need anything major done, though I do need two wisdom teeth removed and have for years. I have sensitive gums and most dental hygienists are not very attuned to my gums, so I can bleed during the cleaning which leaves my gums sore for a day or two. In fact my last dentist's office's hygienist said I absolutely had to floss more - apparently it was my fault that my gums bled so much due to not flossing daily. Which may be the case but still a hygienist could be more sensitive to cleaning. Dr. Tran did my dental cleaning herself and it was a completely different experience. This is the day after, no pain or soreness! It could be because of the up to date instrument she used to clean my teeth - as opposed to the old fashioned scraping. What I look for in a dentist office is having comfortable cleaning experiences, not being made to feel like a complete failure when it comes to cleaning/flossing and availability. I wish I could give 6 stars. My first visit to Landmark Dental Group and the best people everrrrr work there! They truly care about their patients and I rushed home to give them a yelp review. First review I'm writing and I give them 5 stars because they TOTALLY deserve it. Dr. Tran and Anna (spell check) explained everything that was happening clearly and Dr. Weston responded quickly to emails, even on days when they're not open (big plus). They go above and beyond to make sure their patients are happy and they don't con you to get something you don't need. I mentally gave you all a hug as I was leaving, including the random staff lady who smiled back at me so sweetly as she was walking by the room. OH! And they chat with you before they clean your teeth or in between breaks! THANK YOU FOR THAT! Some dentists obviously don't understand that I can't talk with their hands in my mouth and water gurgling in the back of my throat. Everyone is so nice and professional at Landmark Dental Group! My first call was to make appointments for myself and two kids. The receptionist was very friendly and helpful! She worked with me around my schedule and kids schools schedules. My husband called later and made himself an appointment as well. Today was my first visit and I was treated so well from the minute I walked in the door. I met Sandy I believe her name is who cleaned my teeth. Great job. I then met Dr. Weston who is a very friendly and knowledgeable person. He explained everything. I had a great visit and everything went well with my exam. I am very happy I made the choice to come here after my dentist retired. I am not a big fan of going to the dentist and everyone made me feel so welcome and comfortable. Thank you! read more

I had a cleaning & checkup with Dr. Weston, probably one of the best dentists I've seen. He's got a friendly demeanour and the cleaning was thorough, efficient and painless. Equipment was modern and the office was very clean and well run. I am new to the Capitola area (as of 2014/06), and had an appointment with Landmark Dental for teeth cleaning and x-rays. I found the service to be top-notch, the staff helpful and pleasant, and the management flexible with my insurance needs. SERVICE: - Quality : I had only basic cleaning and x-rays done, but the quality was good and I left feeling clean and satisfied - Comfort : The corners of one of my lips was a bit chapped and sensitive. It wasn't more than a 2 out of 10 on the pain scale and I didn't say anything, but the doctor leading the cleaning noticed and pointed it out to the assistant (who was pushing against it) which made the rest of the cleaning much more comfortable - Not pushy on sales opportunities : I have a false tooth (knocked out in a basketball game ~10 years ago) that is hardly noticeable unless you are looking for it. They commented on it but didn't stress the need for a new cap, which I've had other dentist do before PEOPLE: - Friendly - Knowledgable of Capitola : being new to the area, I needed some recommendations on where to eat, explore, etc. Everyone I talked to was positive about Capitola / Santa Cruz, and excited to share their knowledge. A small detail, but very helpful for me INSURANCE: - Transfer from previous dentist : the staff at Landmark coordinated my insurance details with my previous dentist for me - Flexibility with provider : there was a confusion between my insurance provider and the Landmark regarding x-ray coverage. I was worried I would be liable for uncovered fees, and that I would have to spend hours on the phone with both parties to resolve the miscommunication -- but Landmark stepped up to the plate and resolved the entire issue for me. OVERALL - FIVE STARS It is hard to earn 5 stars for a basic cleaning job, but taking the lead on all the insurance problems saved me loads of time and gave me piece of mind on the uncovered fees. They also get bonus points for attention to details (e.g., care for chapped lips), and friendliness round out the score. I'd recommend other people new to town in need of a new dentist to LandMark. read more

Each process was made clear and thoroughly explained, which was important to me! It was very apparent the dental assistants really valued their work. If you are like me and going to the dentist is daunting because you have complex dental issues, rest assured you are in great hands at Landmark Dental Group. I was a little discouraged after my initial check up with them because Dr. Weston told me that I needed a good amount of work done, but what I really appreciated is that he and his office staff played it to me straight. They told me exactly what needed immediate attention and what could wait 6 months or so. Dr. Weston answered my questions in immense detail and told me not to hesitate to contact him with any additional questions. I literally felt like I was having a heart to heart with him and the hygienist. I kept it real and told them why going to the dentist was traumatic for me because of the out of pocket cost, the inevitable fillings, etc. What I loved about them is that I felt listened to and validated. They offered to send me a pre-authorization form of the break down of costs of the work I needed done so I could budget accordingly. Also, one of my cavities popped off later that night and landmark got me in the next day to fix the semi botched job that the last dentist did. My new filling looks amazing, thanks to Dr. Weston and his team!!! I even got a follow up text this am asking how I was feeling. AND they sent me my digital x-rays immediately as I had requested. I was in CA for 6 months and was due for the dentist. Dr Trang was professional and friendly. She told me I needed a small filling and to replace an older filling. I was a little surprised because it's been maybe a decade since I had a cavity, but ok. I'm 37. When I got the bill for $500 it seemed high, but worst, the new filling hurt when I ate for almost a year after, and now it still hurts when I floss. It feels like I'm going to yank it out. Moreover, my dentist in NY insists that I didn't need the new filling. I finally decided to write this review because I chose Trang based on the strong Yelp reviews. read more

Very happy with the level of service from the dentist. However, the administrative staff needs a little help with organization. My first appointment I made was never put in the books, so when I called to confirm, my appointment was not there. Had to reschedule. Second, I was given a full mouth X-ray (which I didn't realize I was getting), that I was told on the phone would be retrieved from my last dentist that I visited (all information provided to woman I spoke to on the phone).. This is a treatment that is only covered once every five years, so I had to pay for the treatment. This is something that should be told to patients beforehand. I had no problem paying the cost because it is my responsibility to know this too, but dentists/administrative staff also take part of that responsibility. My records were obviously not retrieved from my old dentist. Last, the woman I spoke to over the phone told me I was covered 100% with the dental coverage I have, this was not the case and everything else was only covered at 80%. Again, this is my responsibility as well, so I didn't mind paying. But I also trusted that I was getting the correct information. Hopefully in the future they will not provide information that is incorrect to their patients. Lesson learned. Disappointed to say the least. read more

I had such a great experience here! Dr. Weston, was very thorough in his exam and clearly explained everything to me. You can tell he is very passionate about dentistry. The staff is equally amazing as Dr. Weston. Rosie (I think thats her name), the hygienist did a great job cleaning my teeth and was still gentle! The administration and dental assistants were also super nice and accommodating. What a great team! I totally recommend this place.. and they accept UCSCs insurance. I have had some really bad experiences with dentists. So bad that I didn't ever want to see a dentist again in my life. As you can imagine, I needed some pretty extensive dental work done. I found Dr. Tran and Dr. Weston by just googling 'sedation dentistry' to be honest, and out of the dentists I had found, their practice seemed like the best choice, and it is. Dr. Tran is so sweet, and she's extremely gentle. I was so worried about getting shots in my mouth -- the last dentist I had just injected it so quickly... I never felt pain like that before -- but with Dr. Tran I barely felt a thing. Dr. Weston is the same, although I've mostly been worked on by Dr. Tran. I'm no longer terrified of the dentist! read more

I love Landmark Dental (and I'm scared of going to the dentist!) My boyfriend is currently dealing with a dental issue and after reading reviews of some other clinics in town that were less than stellar, I felt compelled to show some appreciation to Landmark Dental. Both of the dentists are so kind and caring. I get nervous about fillings and both dentists have been beyond understanding and so accommodating. All the work I have gotten done here (although not much) has been excellent quality and I have no issues with anything. Their staff is personable, sweet, and professional. They truly care about the work they are doing, and never once have I felt that they were pushing an unnecessary procedure on me. I even have mentioned old fillings from other dentists that I have been paranoid about, wondering if I needed them redone, and Tran was quick to assure me that nothing was urgent and that they looked ok, and that they could check in on them for me at my next cleaning to see if they were bothering me at all. I truly cannot say enough good things about these two, best dentists I have ever had by a long shot. Thanks Landmark! read more

Tran and scott are very friendly and nice. Scott seems to have more experience than Tran. Tran did a crown for me. However, I had to keep coming back for adjustments. After almost a year of a painful tooth and adjustments, I finally gave up on Tran and saw a different dentist. He said the crown was originally done improperly which was causing the problem. He pulled the crown off, made a new one, and I never had a problem again. Tran is very nice, I just wish she would change her technique. read more
