Be extremely careful with this business: Firstly, false advertising as when you google and look on his website it clearly states he is an oral surgeon, does root canals, etc. See snippets of his services below. This is very deceiving, deceitful, untrustworthy establishment: "Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Robert Matiasevich Jr. DDS" "Medicare Part B For oral surgery or severe dental treatment that impacts your overall health, Medicare can help. You must be seen in our office to evaluate the necessity. Call today." Secondly, front office the face of this business is completely inadequate, I was very detailed about what I needed and explained my oral surgery needs... Guess what? Yep you guessed it ....he doesn't do oral surgeries.... Thirdly, wasn't able to compare new regular X-ray with old 3D X-ray which was extremely important to know. I did get the dental codes I needed for insurance purposes but at a very high cost. Their costs are extremely high and I would definitely look around for good doctor with decent pricing and quality personnel. Dental assistant WAS NOT very good , was polite and business friendly. Note I use the word "business" a lot because it's doesn't feel like a "health service provider " office....And it should!! She dodged some of my questions and that was my first inkling that something was up and the doctor couldn't even answer my questions either. Had a list of questions. When leaving, the doctor should have waived the fee for false advertising and hiring inadequate front desk personnel. Or even lower the cost and pay minimal fee for codes. He knew what was happening....shame on him!! They make you feel like it's all about the sales and don't care about your welfare. I've been going to Dr Bob for two years after my former dentist retired. I've had a great experience- he is professional, personable and did great work quickly when I needed it. When I broke a tooth, he saw me the next day and resolved the same day. It needed a bridge which, after 8 months has been great! Happy! read more

I did not have a great experience here. I initially asked if they accepted my insurance and I was told that they do, however that doesn't mean they are "in network" so they can charge you whatever they want. They charged me 3 times as much as ordinary and reasonable and submitted an erroneous bill to my insurance. Now I'm waiting for them to submit and accurate bill. I also scheduled a teeth cleaning with them and they lost the appointment and really didn't seem to care. There is definitely a focus on getting money rather than what is in the best interests of the patient. They also refused to provide an itemized list of proposed charges. I have been treated very well at this dentist office! I salute Dr. Chai's diagnostic effort, her chair-side manner, the actual work including a root canal accomplished with nearly zero pain, preparation for crown work and especially great coordination with dental assistants and the dental surgeon who removed two teeth. My last dentist didn't pay attention to the warnings that came from the dental assistants who cleaned my teeth, and so work wasn't done in time to avoid my losing both teeth! I didn't see Dr. Matiasevich, I saw Dr. Chai and I am impressed with how attentive she was. She did a great job figuring out the source of my severe pain in upper molars. I thought I might need an urgent route canal or two, and she deducted that all I actually had was a sinus infection. I am treating that with antibiotics now, and feeling much better. Agreed to have work done after getting a bid that said my insurance would cover all since I already paid my deductable. After the work was done I got a bill for almost 400 bucks! I called to follow up and was told not to worry as my insurance was taking longer than usual to respond. In the meantime my gut told me to hold off on the last appointment I had scheduled as I wanted to make sure the insurance was figured out. Good thing I did as I received another bill with the same amount. When I called they said, "oops your insurance didn't cover like we thought they would." Instead of helping figure out the problem I was told by the office staff to call my insurance myself to see what happened. After a bit if time ( trying to figure it out) I received a ride call front the office staying, " we still have not received payment, looks like you haven't called your insurance yet!" Very rude and assuming. amount.What's the point of a bid if a dentist office won't honor or or help you figure it out. BTW. Overall, I am pleased with the dental work. I have been a patient for years. Outside of the dental work, I have a few concerns. First, I dislike any pubic display of religion (see photos of the practice). A dental practice should be non-secular. Second, the office needs some public relations work. Their coronavirus announcement reads as if they are more concerned about their well-being than that of their patients. I have received numerous announcements from medical facilities, and all were objective and pragmatic. Capital letters are never recommended. The use of these "scream" at the receiver; "we are asking patients NOT to visit our office if you have ANY signs of a cold, flu, coughing sneezing, etc." What about spring allergies? I sneeze because of pollen. Also, recommending a hospital oral surgeon for dental emergencies is rather self-defeating, Just close your office and announce it to your patients along with the date you plan to open. This is an expensive dental practice. Why they insist on billing the patient before an insurance company issues a payment does not sit well. Patients pay after their insurance has paid. Their offices (they expanded) are clean, as they should be. Patients do not need to be told, "Our office meets or exceeds all local, state, ADA and CDC recommendations for infection control." Thus from a PR view, they induce doubt or questioning, They need some PR. Perhaps, they could follow the example of a medical facility such as Sutter Health. read more

I have been a patient of Dr. Matiasevich for over 20 years. My care has always been excellent and his staff superb. My regular dental hygienist Anna is the best. But I'm writing this review today because of one super member of the team. I had a piece of dental floss stuck between my tooth causing immense pressure and pain and I tried everything to get it out. A dental hygienist I've known since I started coming to that office, Jenny, was able to get it out in minutes and I was so relieved. Thanks Jenny!! His brother was my dentist and it was the worst experience then to top it off when Bradford ran, bad business and patient practices, Robert went in and took all files to try to make us all come to him. No way, his brother did enough shoddy work. I asked for my files to be sent back to the office he took them from and he refuses to send them, must be things in them they do not want clients to see. Pros: Solid dentist who took time to explain things to me. Thorough hygienist made for great cleanings. Clean office. Cons: Once the office staff skipped a step and set me up for a procedure without scans. If I hadn't spoken up when the doctor was about to begin, I would've had a procedure done on a healthy tooth. Doctor was noticeably upset by the mistake, but I can't help but wonder what would have happened if I didn't say anything. The office culture is Stepford friendly; it feels forced and can be off putting. My response: I went to the office for over a year when I lived in CA, and you know who I am because your office keeps sending me mail at my new address. I am doing this one because I feel that Dr. Matiasevish deserves recognition for his excellent dental work and professional management of his dental office. Okay, well I am not surprised by the number of reviewers saying that he charges more than they feel he should based on other dental offices. I totally agree that I have felt the same. But, I have learned that dentistry is not an off the shelf product and that a dentist has many options in choosing procedures and dental products, ie. crowns, implants, etc. and that quality varies. At Dr. Matisevich's I feel that he makes better choices of dental materials. Why have I been seeing him exclusively for three years? PAIN! I had a huge amount of dental work done at ANOTHER OFFICE in Santa Cruz prior to finding Dr. Matiasevich. I had to bear a tremendous amount of pain at the office because of their unwillingness to use sedation (nitrous oxide). Finally, faced with another painful procedure, I went shopping for a new dentist. I needed a root canal which I knew would be quite an ordeal. I called around SC and Santa Clara County looking for an office that would provide nitrous oxide and other pain reducing measures. I located Dr. M. on Yelp. I called and confirmed that there would be nitrous and other pain reducing measures taken. YES! BTW, In my search, I was told by two dental offices that NO ONE in SC County provides Nitrous Oxide. NOT TRUE. Good thing I didn't accept that lie. In the past three years, he has preformed the following procedures for me: Root canal Crown replacement Whole tooth implant Cleanings All without pain or discomfort! REPEAT: All without pain or discomfort! He is professional in his approach and quick to do his work. Friendly enough to make you feel comfortable without crossing the line like he wants you to be his friend. The office is well staffed and sanitary. Appointments are accommodating. Parking is right in front. Like most people, I do not look forward to a dental visit/procedure :/ But when I arrive for my appointment, at Dr. Matiaseviche's I know that I will be served in the most professional manner possible. I would give a zero if possible. Ridiculous, I have been to see Dr. Robert Matiasevich in the past as he was my dentist. Since the beginning of Covid I have been a bit skeptical about going to the dentist. At one point during lockdown, I called, and the receptionist told me scheduling was very limited due to the pandemic. Now here we are I called in today to make an appointment and apparently my files have been "archived" because I haven't been in. Clearly, there was a pandemic. It seems like if you don't show up to this dentist frequently, they will file you away somewhere and then tell you that you need to "sign up as a new patient," however, they're not accepting new patients right now. Totally ridiculous way to run a business. I was very pleased with how Dr. Matiasevich treated me when I was in his office as I have a serious fear of dentists, so this news is very disappointing to me that I am no longer considered a patient. read more

I have just had completed a large upper bridge installed by Dr. Matiasevich. My former dentist couldn't do the bridge because it would entail 2 dentists with each doing part of the work. Not only did he do the complete work, but he was gentle enough that I didn't need any anesthetic for most of the time. The office atmosphere is very friendly and helpful. In addition his hygienist did her work in the most pain free way of any in my 60 years of going to a dentist. Emergency follow-up allowed for an easy time of getting in. Unfortunately Dr. Bob takes to responsibility for his disorganized office , the loss of my implant--and keeps trying to blame what happened to teeth ALL on me. I came back after less than 4 years after having the implants (April 2012 done returned September or October 2015) and trying to put the blame for poor exams on Dr. Kondo-who was my dentist for 20 years...he knew I had implants and examined my mouth accordingly. FYI you did 3 implants, despite my following instructions to the letter the 3rd implant went last winter. I was told by my new dentist several months before the last implant fell out, was loosening without any infection, that I did not have enough bone for that implant or likely any implants those which went by the wayside) IMO you are primarily interested in self-promotion and money and quality comes somewhere else down the line. This is evidenced by having "assistants" who are not full-fledged assistants and who do not understand/or can answer simple questions. I truth, I wish you all of the best...in "the end we all eat what we cook, and you have a tasty meal ahead." I have repeatedly asked your office to take me off the your very expensive multiple-page full color brochure mailing list--perhaps someone (Mitch if he's still there) will listen to me. read more

I visit this office for routine cleanings and exams, and have enjoyed the service that is provided. You will be welcomed by a great group of staff, and they are always willing to answer any questions to the best of their knowledge. Very clean and sterile office. They offer beverages, and other things like neck pillows, blankets if your cold, headphones and music to listen too while getting work done. My hygienist Leslie Eggleston cleans my teeth, and is Great! I have recommended to be in her schedule due to her skill and ability to keep me informed on my hygiene. She is very knowledgable, and uses a very precise technique that doesn't hurt while cleaning. All of the staff is highly qualified, and friendly. Dr. "Bob", is awesome! He definitely knows his stuff, and makes sure you understand everything about the work being done on your teeth. Very funny and gets straight to the point. My husband and I have gone to this office for over 20 years and the last two years things have gone steadily downhill. The new employees are inexperienced in both customer service, calls me hon and can't find my chart, then lies about it, and general medicine and terminology. These employees can give conscious sedation and it would be a nightmare if something would happen, which as a nurse, things happen. They could not give me an idea of cost until I was out of the chair and then it took a second, but because I was asking, I was treated as a second class citizen. They seem to only be interested in the money and redecorating their office for the 4th time. Cold and distant in everything except for Leslie who is terrific. read more

Worst experience I have ever had at a dentist, and that is saying something since no one likes to go to the dentist. I wish I could say one thing good how ever i cannot. I'm not one to write bad reviews, but being as this involves people teeth I feel the need. The staff is rude first off. I"m still trying to get them to fill out the forms for my dental insurance correctly, so I can get reimbursed. They are over priced on everything. The cleaning was probable the worst I had ever had and love getting my teeth cleaned. Dr. Robert Matiasevich is dishonest. It had been a few years since I had been to the dentist, so I wasn't to sure what was going on with my teeth. I wish I had looked at yelp before I went to this office. I was told I had a mouth full of cavities. I was getting gingivitis etc, and when all was said and done it would be around $5,000 to fix my teeth. Then when I said well I'll have to talk to my husband they kept telling me I just needed to schedule my teeth were rotting out. Of course I was in tears by the time i had left. I ended up deciding to go to another dentist. I am so thankful I did. I had 4 cavities all together two being just small ones. The other dentist said I had very healthy teeth and gums, and to just to keep up doing what I've been doing. Just try to go to a dentist more often with a chuckle. Another voice here for the chorus of naysayers: after a painful and costly ( he routinely charges 10% more for similar services elsewhere) implant, they wanted to charge for routine follow-up, but the work was so shoddy that I will never return and can only advise others to stay away. Instead of reducing patient costs, they mount what the ancient Romans called Bread and Circuses: free movie screenings, BBQ grills (really!), and VIP service in exchange for referrals; this last borders on the unethical. Plus, to make himself look good, Dr. M advertises his pro bono work for the truly indigent...how about the rest of us? Please take my advise and stay far away. I also got the hard sell for deep cleaning. I have a implant on front tooth and was shown a xray of tooth and told it was very infected. I would need $250.00 antibactic treatment that insurance does not cover. They had me so scared talking about blood clots ect. I was told they could not do implant alone I would need deep cleaning at same time because of my deep pockets. Something did not feel right about the whole visit , especially the $700.00 insurance would not cover. I immediately went for a second opinion . The new Dentist received my X-ray from Dr. Matiasevich and even took one of his own,which showed no infection and no deep pockets he woukd worry about. In response to your comment back, I think it's unfortunate that that's all you had to say about the situation. First off, how can you tell me that I was well aware of the law? I had no idea about any of that until Mitchell told me, and he said that it was needed to release her medical records, not a refund. my mother didn't have an estate or a will, she had nothing to leave. Also, I did not discuss my mother's medical history. I discussed the interaction that occurred pertaining to getting a refund. as far as being upfront about your policies and costs I would say that's somewhat true. During our first consultation with Mitchell we had inquired about pricing because your flyer mentioned costs of the all on 4 at around $50,000. We asked him if we should expect to be paying that much and he assured us no, that those figures were for the premium all on 4 high-end work. He never said I can't say for sure or we have to wait for the x-rays. He flat out told us no that we would not be paying that much. But as I mentioned before the total came out to $62,000 or so. Him saying that to us influenced our decision to leave the deposit and go forward. The point in all this is I did not come to you knowing the law and refused to provide the paperwork. I did not know the law therefore I had no paperwork. I simply was asking for a refund of the money my mom gave you towards her work that she can no longer get done. Everything that I stated is 100% correct and fact. I didn't post this to trash talk your office, but to make people aware of what happened. Like I said my original post I had no issues or problems with you guys, everything was fine except for this incident. I went to this dentist needing a root canal, replacement and possible deep cleaning. They really try to lay on the over friendliness thick and personally I find it a bit superficial and gross. To sum things up they wanted $6000 total. I looked elsewhere and got everything I needed done for about $3000. For the root canal I went to Dr Patel ( Micro Endodontics of Santa Cruz ) who is the number one rated endodontist in Santa Cruz and then for the replacement and cleaning try Dr Rick Smith ( also in Santa Cruz ). The oddity of Robert Matiasevich's office is they give you a tour of the office, and emphasize how progressively "green" they are. What the hell do your politics have to do with my teeth ?? I found the whole thing hilarious when they gave me the price quote. Apparently when it comes to money they are not so "progressive". Thanks for being concerned with the environment, but I'm more concerned with staving off a medical infection while having enough money to afford shelter and food. read more

The receptionist at this place is the rudest girl on earth! She was fake and unreasonable, and wouldn't listen to me. I thought the customer was always right? It's been years now since I went to Dr. Matiasevich's office. He told me I had two cavities that needed filling, and for my insurance to cover them both, I had to wait 6 months for the second one. I skipped the second one because I didn't feel like I had anything wrong with my teeth, and have since been to other dentists that said I was cavity-free. I recently found this dentist after it popped up on Facebook due to my recent searches for a medicare dentist. I am retired and on a limited income which I shared with this office staff. After a complete up sell of their services, they checked with Medicare to see if it would cover my treatment. They told me in order to move forward I needed to pay $422.00 and that Medicare would cover approximately $8000.00 of my treatment. At this first visit I paid this amount and they took ex-rays and pictures. The reason for my visit in the first place was because a crown had fallen out. I was in pain and my TMJ had gotten worse over the prior two weeks. They did not offer to put the crown back on. But instead set an appt. for one week out. When I got home I told my wife how happy I was that Medicare was going to cover the amount it was so that I could get the work done. At now time during that visit did they ever tell me how much the cost would be in total. They also knew up front that I was on a fixed income. I went back in one week later and received 2 quotes to have permanent work done to my mouth. The first was in the amount of $38,000 ($30,000 of which would have been my cost after Medicare paid). The second one was $72,000 (minus $12,000 from Medicare and the rest being out of pocket). This work was for 2 bottom implants, 3 implants up top and a bridge. The price jumped from $38,000 to $72,000 to add the two implants on the bottom. I was absolutely floored. If I had any inclination that work on my mouth that they suggested would cost this much I would not have even stepped foot in this office. How do they expect a retired man on a fixed income with Medicare to find this type of money? I went the same day to my wife's dentist and they put the crown back on for $250. At that visit they call this office to get the ex-rays and they were denied. I called them the next day to request my $422 back. They told me I signed a waiver and that they were keeping this money. BTW - Medicare paid for all the exrays and scans they took the first day which I will get after signing a waiver. This dentist is robbing unsuspecting older people by soliciting to them that he takes Medicare, which he does, and then taking $422 of they money for a consult and then showing them an plan estimate that only someone with a huge bank account could afford. I trusted them and they were very kind, of course they were, and they took advantage of me. I will never recommend them and plan on taking this to Medicare and the Better Business Bureau. read more

I had been going to a dentist for many years. She did a crown for me about two years ago and I was never able to chew on it. It didn't really hurt, just felt like something was wrong. Went back multiple times but it was never right. I stopped chewing on that side of my mouth a few years ago and just used the other side. Well, I broke another tooth on the good chewing side. Problem was my dentist moved or retired and I was in need of a fix. Fast forward, a friend of mine recommended Dr Matiasevich. I went in to see them and was warmly greeted by the front office. The girl who seated me was warm and friendly and not judgmental at all about me not seeing a dentist in such a long time. Dr Bob (as they refer to him), took a look at my broken tooth and fixed it the same day. He also looked at the other one that had been a problem all those years. Guess what? The old crown my dentist put on was just too tall. Dr Bob filed it down, at no charge I might add, and the next day I was able to chew on the other side again. Now I can use both sides of my mouth. I worked with a team including Dr. Chai that was really great - had an excellent cleaning with Anna - she's a really terrific hygienist - plus x-rays and a consultation with Dr. Chai for a very fair price. I was looking for a new dentist since I am no longer able to go to my Pediatric dentist anymore lol so I ended up stumbling upon dr. Bob's practice through Yelp and couldn't be happier! I came in yesterday for my first check up and cleaning in almost 5 years and couldn't have been more terrified to go in but all of the staff were completely sweet from Mitch who check me in and did my paperwork, Ana who did an amazing job cleaning my teeth, and of course Dr. Bob who gave me amazing advice on how I should proceed with upcoming procedures.
