We were researching the area and found the No.1 Brittish Flying Museam and decided to pay it a visit. It is located at the Terrell airport in an unpretentious metal building and accompying metal hanger. There is an interesting story about the No. 1 Brittish Flying School, how it came about and contributed to training around 2,200, mostly Brittish pilots during WWII. The impact the school had on Terrell, the Brittish, and the war effort. We were met at the door by the Executive Director of the musueam and shortly thereafter joined another couple and board member on a tour of the musueam. The musueam has preserved the history of what happened in Terrell during WWII with numerous displays, exhibits, and photographs. In the hanger they have two aircraft, one a restored Stearman bi-plane used by the students. From the moment we booked it until the end of the dinner I could tell we were in great hands. Gerrie, the museum representative, was available for us to come out to look over the facility. She also helped us decide on the layout of the room. The museum had tables and chairs for us to use for our dinner. The venue also had table clothes, water glasses, and some other items available. I was actually the last one to arrive for the party but fortunately Gerrie and Bill were graciously greeting all the guests and either guiding them on a tour through the Museum (which is very interesting) or directing them to the drink station and their tables. We feel like we hit the jackpot when we learned about the "No 1 BFTSM" as a venue for the Rehearsal Dinner we were giving and would 100% recommend the museum as a great and unique place for an event! The first level showcases paintings from various decades and is where the gift shop is located. The upstairs showcases local artists and has a study filled with autobiography and biography books. We enjoyed learning and viewing biblical and historical accounts from centuries ago. They have a big mural in the back of the museum that showcases influential people spanning decades which is worth checking out. Their gift shop ranges from affordable to pricey, however I enjoyed looking around for a souvenir. You could easily spend an hour or more here, the museum is all one story. They have a lovely garden (Via Dolorosa Sculpture Garden) adjacent to the museum with statues dedicated to Jesus marking his journey to the Cross. They have benches to sit throughout the garden surrounded by flowers and butterflies. They have a survivor tree dedicated to 9/11 victims and their families. Besides being a park, it's a place where it holds special events throughout the year that may be worth checking out. The park has a free parking lot just off the to side and it is easily accessible. I appreciate that it also has a picnic area, garden areas, benches, water fountains (though I doubt anyone uses it), and restrooms. It is quite well maintained and a sweet spot in Dallas for some fun photos. A few historic buildings I visited include the Alamo Saloon, Blum Bro. General Store, and Renner School. Per their website educational tours/ school field trips are welcome, plus reservation facilities for those interested.

This isn't the biggest museum in the world, that's for sure. But what they have is a unique place…read morein history. It's a wild feeling being at the corner window where history took place on the 6th floor, overlooking Dealey Plaza. You can see how everything was laid out visually for the moment in history to unfold. I think it's worth it to spend less than $30 bucks to come up and have that unique vantage point. It's an unfortunate event in American history, and it continues to live on as the tragedy that it was.
