We stopped in while traveling up north and were pleasantly surprised to find a cute little wine tasting room in the small town of West Branch, of all places. I've been to West Branch several times before (we usually stay at a cabin on the water with our friends), but I've never seen anything associated with a winery here before, so I had absolutely no idea what I was missing! They had quite an array of reasonably-priced wines, starting around $11 and going up from there to around $22 per bottle. We were offered a free wine sampling of a couple of different varieties, including a semi-dry, but buttery chardonnay ($11), which had a nice, rich flavor for a lower-priced bottle of wine. I would recommend that anyone who likes white wines. It was a hit with me after just one sip. It wasn't too dry or too sweet. It had some nice, subtle notes that I could detect afterward. Next, we tried a chocolate wine. My husband was very hesitant at first, but came around on it after giving it a chance. I liked it, myself, too. It was a richer wine, probably not for everybody's taste, but I found it quite suitable. We were told it was infused with Mackinac Island Fudge, so that must be what gave it its incredibly distinct chocolate taste. If you like chocolate or fudge, this one is a winner. The manager/owner suggested mixing it with Modern Craft's cherry wine for optimal effect. He said the two bring out the best notes in each other. He then paired them together for me and you know what? He was right. Count me in! Another winner. He was both engaging and quite knowledgeable about the wines they had in stock. He definitely knew his stuff. Beyond that, there were several other interesting wines at a mid-range price point that looked worth trying, including a blackberry wine and a variety of lighter, fruity wines, suitable for a summer evening. They had a special on some discontinued seasonal wine, running about 50% off, which was a bargain. Aside from the tasting room, the space is home to a small gift shop featuring home decor and accessories. I didn't bother to check it out too well, but looking around I saw some cute things that I would like. I wish I had taken a little more time to check out the gift shop as well, but I focused my visit solely on the wine tasting. I'm really glad we stopped in. It made for most pleasant side trip foray. I would never have known this place was here if I hadn't decided to stop into town just to look around for an hour or two.

I had been looking for a wall hanging for some time and found the perfect one, but it had a small flaw which I knew would bother me. I asked Denise, the store owner, if there were any others and she said no. I was so disappointed. She said "I'll make it happen". She contacted the artist who made and it and had her make me another one and shipped it to me at her cost. I could not have been more impressed. It arrived 2 days after we got home. She also followed up with a phone call to make sure I received my item. If you are in the area, it is definitely a store worth checking out.

Attic treasures…read more First, I'd like to say that the owner Steve is wonderful to work with. Very willing to get you what you want and working with you to ensure that you are a happy customer. We have recommended Attic Treasures to many people who have spent thousands of dollars there. At our last trip there, we also dropped thousands of dollars to purchase some furniture for our house. Steve even worked with us to build some end tables for our living room. I wish I could say this had a happy ending. We had the unfortunate experience of dealing with the owners son, who has HORRIBLE customer service. Every time we call the store he is nasty on the phone and by no means makes you feel like a valuable customer. Our end tables came in and and my husband drove an hour and a half to pick them up. They were made wrong, did not match the drawing at all. The son said that they never should have taken this order, if he were there at the store when we came he never would have taken this order. The doors on the end tables (which should be less than 20 inches because that's how wide the end table is) were made into double doors. The son said that they have to do that because the wood warps. I find that funny because on the TV stand we bought the doors are wider than 20 inches. Also I was under the impression that what Attic Treasures is known for is making things to fit your space. It literally says on their page "Can't find something to fit an unusual space? Draw it up and we'll make it for you!" So being told that making our end tables isn't something they do was a little hypocritical. Needless to say we extremely disappointed in the customer service we received and will tell our friends about the experience we had and at this point we aren't sure we will ever purchase something from this store again. Like I said at the beginning Steve was great to work with, however his son is going to drive that store into the ground with his terrible customer service. Then when we call to complain, the owner did nothing to rectify the situation and said he gets complaints about his son's customer service and won't do anything about it. So now they've lost thousands of dollars from us.

The stores up north however are hard to come by... There are not as many and their inventory is lacking due to being in a less populated area... It is funny to see how the stock and type of stuff varies so much in different parts of the state. This thrift store is the best one that I have found in Northern Michigan not only is it extremely spacious... The store itself is extremely organized, and you can tell that the owners and staff take great pride in merchandising their product in a way that is easy to shop and thoughtfully placed. I found it incredible how this business is operating I went today for the first time and it is senior day so the deals are very deep and the line is wrapped around the building! It seems like this building was once a mom and pop shop style department store because there are various rooms that organize each department even still with it being a thrift store this location have less furniture and clothing but all the other items are in great supply. Ifound a few great deals and left knowing that I will be back I highly recommend this store if you are into Thrifting and looking for a gift or even a vintage find.
