This company took a contract for the condo complex where I live. They did a terrible job and thats not an ounce of exaggeration. All they really did was mow the lawn and that wasn't even done right. Nothing else was done and yes they were supposed to do a lot more than mow the lawn. They should not be trusted with large properties or any property that has a nice landscape. They could probably handle mowing a regular lawn, possibly raking leaves on a very small property. They would probably be best suited as a quick seasonal yard clean as long as you supervise the work. Beware they are not a company you should do business with unless you want to toss your money away. Do yourself a favor and hire a few neighborhood kids they will do a better job. read more

I retained Landscaping by J. Michael from the previous owner of my current home. After a few services, it's become apparent that they are unprofessional and do not want to be held accountable for their mistakes. Last year, I had my sprinkler system winterized. During the winter, an outside valve burst. After contacting them, they tried coming up with multiple excuses and blamed it on lack of maintenance and that it was my fault. Mike, the owner also tried placing further blame on me by mentioning that the technician is supposed to come inside for the shut-off. Mind you, I had someone present at home during the time of the servicing, and the technician never once asked to come inside (even when Mike claims they are supposed to). I'd also like to add that the inside supply was shut-off and the spigot was drained, so there was no way water would come from inside. Mike also claimed that there are sweat connections that might deform the seals at the valves, but the connections to the components that burst are threaded, not soldered connections. They had also tried to place blame on the old backflow preventer. I understand there is wear and tear on components, but the burst valve resulted from residual water that was not properly drained, not from age.   Furthermore, to ensure the water supply was not the cause of the problem, I opened the drain spigot from the supply inside my home and a minimal amount of water came out (not enough to reach the plumbing outside), which proves this is upright negligence on their behalf.   Mike proposed to fix the issue for "$150". I refused to pay for damage that they caused. After numerous attempts to remedy the problem, it is still unresolved. Mike went as far as to cancel an appointment that had been previously scheduled to diagnose the system without notifying me.   In the end, I paid for an improperly performed sprinkler winterization that resulted in property damage that they have refused to repair. I would never recommend Landscaping by J. Michael for any services, as they will not take any responsibility for jobs gone wrong. read more

The crew has been here for the day and they have kicked ass clearing the thimble berries and bittersweet off our rocky,wooded, hillside. I cut up some plastic bags to throughly mark the plants I wanted them to avoid and did a walk through before hand so they knew what I wanted. Thanks J. Michael Landscaping! read more

Called J Michael for a quote on a fall cleanup. We have a large, very wooded yard....lots of leaves. It looked good in the spring when we bought it! They gave us a very reasonable estimate and we decided to go with them. They showed up on time with a four man, very professional crew. They worked hard for seven hours and the yard looked fabulous. Everything was cleaned up, shrubs trimmed and irrigation system closed for the season. Then...two days later...a nor'easter came through, just my luck. The yard was covered in leaves and debris...looked like there was never a cleanup. We emailed to see if they could do a quick cleanup for us, thought they would just blow some of the leaves. They came later that day and spent another three hours cleaning the yard and again...it looked great. the whole crew was very nice. This is what I call great customer service. Above and Beyond. We will be using them for all of our landscaping needs. read more

Excellent customer service experience with Landscaping by J Michael ! I received a call back the same day I called inquiring about an estimate for my yard work. Our Project Manager, Bill, was very friendly, professional and helpful. He scheduled an appointment for the estimate very timely and he went out of his way to come back for a second visit to answer my husbands followup questions. We received timely emails and follow up phone calls keeping us informed of the date and time the work was to be started and completed. We had a 3 man crew complete our job within a week of the estimate and we were thrilled with the end result. The crew worked so hard throughout the project and were very kind and hardworking. I found our experience to be very positive, and would recommend Landscaping by J Michael to all of my friends, neighbors and family. read more

Terrible customer service, disinterested owner. No continuity of staff. Very rude and uninformed office staff. Unable to clearly take a message. Owner admonished me for texting my "account manager" when the owner himself told me to communicate with the manager text directly. There was a different "account manager" every several weeks. Installed a pricy walkway pitched incorrectly. Attempted to charge for services never rendered. Ruined my lawn with over application of weed treatment. Totally ignored requests and emails . After SEVERAL poorly done projects, I fired them. Enough was enough. read more

After 2 years of water bans on top of sandy based soil my lawn died a slow and ugly death, I was the black sheep of our neighborhood. I received quotes from 3 companies to tear up and redo all dead parts of the lawn however, it was at this point in the process where J Michael jumped to the top of the line. First the owner called me to discuss the issue from start to finish, he then recommended we complete a soil sample test so he could better understand the issue and suggest a best fix solution. While that was being done the project manager visited my property on at least 3 occasions before I even signed the quote to ensure he understood the situation as best he could before the soil testing came back. Upon receiving the test results,I was issued a quote on the same day. The quote was about 20% higher than the middle one however, I understood why and signed up. J Michaels plans included steps the others never mentioned and again it was based on the soil tests as well as the site visits. These guys know what they are doing! The team consisted of a project manager (Mike L.) and a great group of capable hard working guys who each had good communication skills (very important). I also feel it necessary to add that the office staff picked up the phone every time I called and were a huge help during the entire process. The 3-4 man crew showed up on time and were extremely professional. They consulted with me directly during the project as things came up and they finished up by their estimated time. Mike sent me several status emails during the process and I never felt out of the loop on any aspect of the project, and this was very important to my wife and I as the total cost of the project was close to $6K. J Michael is a very capable and dependable company and I have move all my landscaping needs over to them. I highly recommend them and if you do your due diligence you will know you made the right decision before the work starts. read more

Landscaping by J. Michael is amazing!!! They were able to save one of the oak trees lining our driveway that had fallen and uprooted during a storm a few years ago. We thought it could never be saved, yet Mike and his crew came out and evaluated the situation for free and wound up saving the tree and subsequently others! True professionals with horticultural knowledge no other landscapers we have worked with in the past had!!! We now use Landscaping by J. Michael for all of our landscaping and snow removal - they are the absolute best!!! read more

ONE-STAR / July - Aug 2017 In the summer of 2017, I contracted for a MAJOR project for my back yard. They did TWO-THIRDS of the job and then re-billed me--DOUBLE-BILLING me for my $2,000 deposit. I had to document the deposit through my bank; they then decided to IGNORE my communications (like I DID NOT exist) and DID NOT OFFER TO FINISH THE CONTRACT. J. Called them for an estimate. They came out on time and spent a few minutes talking with me about the project. They left with a promise to provide a quote. Months later and I never heard from them. They were however happy enough to put me on their monthly email distribution list which I still get. I can't personally speak to their quality of work but I can only guess based on their follow up skills. read more

Excellent customer service! After striking out with other landscape companies because the job I had was on the smaller side, I called the office of Landscaping by J. Michael. I was impressed to be greeted warmly by an actual human voice, not an answering machine. I explained that I had a smaller job that needed to be done at my elderly father's home. The young woman in the office was able to send someone to come look at the property the next day. Once the job was priced, we were quickly added to the schedule. The day of the job, the crew arrived on time, looking professional and ready to work. The finished job far exceeded my expectations. read more

I had a big landscaping project to do this summer to get ready for a graduation party at my house. I went on the J Michael website and filled out the quick form to contact me, and also briefly indicated what I needed done. I never heard back from anybody. Whenever I come across this (no return phone call, email, etc.), I feel the need to let people know. At least have the common courtesy to contact me to let me know that you are too busy and/or cannot take on the project, etc. Terrible customer service in my opinion. read more

We hired J Michael to do a large amount of work in our yard including multiple patio areas and paid them a lot of money to do so. The original quote we were given was based on them needing to spend a large amount of time doing manual labor because the trucks could not get into our yard. Low and behold the trucks were able to get in and the actual labor took half the time they had estimated. Additionally when they did one of our patio areas it was done messily and ruined the brand new siding on our house that had just been finished. When I pushed back on the final bill asking for a modest discount because of these things they got into an argument with me and belittled me (a woman) and ultimately asked to speak with my husband whom had never truly been involved with the project. They had been speaking with me the entire time. I was appalled. They were supposed to come back to fix some of the things that were left undone and never did. Months later I continued to follow up and every time I did they said they would call me back. They never did and I finally just let it go. I would think twice before hiring them. read more

J. Michael does a mediocre job. An azalea died under warranty and they replaced it with a TINY, beat up azalea that was the wrong color and when I called to complain he never called back. I'm now replanting multiple plants. It's unfortunate because I paid a lot for the work. I would expect more follow up and feedback for a ~$4K job. Some simple customer service goes a long way; it's too bad some people don't get it. read more

Michael and his crew are great to work with. Three years ago I gutted my house and Mike designed my patio and landscaping. He was on budget and on time. My patio and yard look great and I could not have been happier with the outcome. Since then I have only used J Michael for spring and fall cleanups as well as yard maintenance. And when I need someone to plow my driveway after a large snowfall he is there. I highly recommend J Michael for any landscaping needs. read more
