My husband (a car guy) wanted to visit this museum on our trip to Nashville. Since we like to do lots of different activities, it fit the bill. I enjoyed this so much more than I expected. The collection is cleverly set up by country of origin (did you knew there are cars from the Czech Republic?). The three wheeled vehicles are great fun. They had a "secret level" that I wish we could have seen, I think they were all booked before we got there, so that was a bummer, but what they had displayed was more than enough and still worth the visit. Best car museum we've been to, hands-down! And we've been to a LOT of them, haha! Very extensive collection of lots of super old and super niche cars!! Lots of dream cars here and we loved all the little decor details they put in (like the information stand beside each car is made of car parts)! They rotate cars in and out of the show room each month, so if you're local it's worth a membership! I've been employed just down the road from the Lane Motor Museum for a decade. After all that time, I FINALLY found a chilly afternoon devoid of plans to check this place off my bucket list. Just as most people say, it's truly a hidden gem in Nashville and one of the most unique points of interest in the city. But you don't need to see another review about how cool this museum is. Others have made that clear. It would be far more beneficial to read about what you need to look for inside. So let this be your official checklist while walking around a spacious warehouse (although displays are subject to change). There are some very old vehicles here, the oldest of which are the 1909 Renault Type AG Series 1, the 1923 Tatra T-11, the 1924 Citroën 5CV Trèfle, the 1927 Tatra T-12, the 1928 DKW Typ P, and the 1929 Austin 7. The Tatras are incredibly rare and manufactured a century ago in Czechoslovakia! There are dozens of incredibly rare automobiles with fewer than 100 ever made! This includes 15 one-of-a-kind vehicles that only exist at the Lane Motor Museum and nowhere else in the world! Those would be a Wind Wagon, a Helicron, a Framo Piccolo, a Surlesmobile, a Erickson Special, a Castarede, a Citroën 2CV "Bichephale", a Future, a Gregory Roadster, a Silva Week-end, a Grataloup, a Rocket Car, a Gyro-X, a Clifft Commutercycle, and my personal favorite the 1939 Fiat 508C Ballila 1100. Several of these can be found grouped together in the back left corner (from the perspective of the museum entrance), accompanied by their fascinating stories. And finally, there are some absolutely stunning automobiles on display, most of these very rare, including a 1939 Peugeot 202 Berline Decouvrable, a 1951 Hotchkiss Grégoire, a 1955 MG TF 1500, a 1958 Tornado Typhoon, a 1962 Mazda R360, a 1963 Lotus Elite Type 14, a 1967 Morris Mini Traveller, a 1968 Fiat 850 Spider, a 1971 OTAS 820 Grand Prix, and a 1996 Tatra T700. And don't miss their award winning yellow 1958 Auto Union 1000! Also be aware that they have a massive U.S. military amphibious 959 LARC-LX the size of a small building! It's been parked out back since its acquisition in 2004 and is visible from a corridor of motorcycles at the back left of the warehouse. Just follow the sign that says UNIQUE. The Lane Motor museum is a great place to go if you are into cars. Even as a person who knows nothing about cars, I had a pretty good time. It is so interesting to see how cars have changed over time and around the world. Some of the designs are so cool and very strange! The only thing that I would have loved is to have one or two cars that we could interact more with either by touching or getting into it. While they really encourage taking pictures, you can't touch any of the cars. They do have a couple of events in the year where they do have select cars that you can interact with more so being on the lookout for those events can be helpful! The Lane Motor Museum is located on Murfreesboro Pike in Nashville. The collection is housed in the former Sunbeam Bread factory, which is a cool historical aspect! I've been to several fine car museums, but what such this museum apart is the quantity and unique vehicles that are almost all exclusive to Europe and foreign countries. In each area of the museum, you'll see flags of the country represented above the vehicles from that country. You'll find micro-cars, three wheelers, one-off prototypes, propeller driven cars, even a gyroscopic car the runs on two wheels. They only display about 125 vehicles at a time out of almost 500 cars in their collection. They do limited tours of their basement collection. The cars are spaced far enough apart that you can take pictures of every angle. In addition, there are no stanchions or barriers in front of the vehicles. They do advise you that because there are no barriers. They don't want visitors to be tampering with the displays and rightfully so. One of the nicest aspects of this museum is the rather large indoor play area for children. It's such a wonderful way to get children interested in transportation, while parents might be looking around the building at all of the fine examples of foreign cars! There is a small gift shop as well, so don't forget to stop by there. I highly recommend this museum for any car aficionado ! read more

I am always looking for new things to explore when my dad comes to visit, and one day I drove past Lane Motor Museum and made a mental note to look it up. Thankfully I remembered, and when my dad came to town we decided to make the stop. Pricing to get in was fair, and we arrived early to sign up for the vault tour. The tour is absolutely worth it. They have some really interesting cars in the vault and lots of stories to accompany those cars. The museum itself was very well set up and I enjoyed seeing all the vehicles and reading about them. There is also a kids station for any little ones that get antsy. They also have a short video to give some background on the museum. Also a fun photo opt. We ended up spending about 2.5ish hours between the tour and looking around on our own (plus checking out the cars in the parking garage). If you like classic cars, you've definitely got to check this place out! My friend and I were in town for CMA fest, but we decided to get out of downtown for a little bit and check out this museum. You can pay $15 and walk around the museum at your leisure. For that price you get to see about 150 different vehicles. Though we didn't opt to do the tour, you can pay a little more and see even more vehicles on a guided tour. We really enjoyed our time at this museum. They have one classic car you can take your picture in. They had the floor organized by decades and countries. There was signage telling you about each car and they were all very unique. Except for how we were treated when buying tickets we had a great time at the museum. Went on 7/29/24 about 1:30. Wife and I got senior tickets. After paying the guy with a mustache that was working there started barking at us like we were children. There's signs everywhere saying not to touch the cars. If he is required to tell guests then he should not treat them like they've damaged something or broken the rule already. Besides that we had a great time. Check one off my Bucket List. Lane Motor Museum is truly unique in the car museum milieu. They've got ~100+ cars on display at any given time, and they rotate them frequently. The majority of the cars on display are registered and street legal, so this isn't your "Garage Queen" exhibition. The cars are awesome and the selection is unparalleled. And while there are some concours-level restorations on display most of the cars have a patina and you can tell they're drivers, not jewels in cases. I've been a car guy from the cradle and it was surprising to see that they had a couple of specimens that I've never heard of. (I can't remember the last time that's happened for a "production" car.) Each car on display has an information sheet providing a brief history of the marque and model, and often a bit of trivia on the specific car on display. I can't even recall how many "one of one" examples were on display. And the staff... what can I cay about the staff? They're absolutely amazing and it's evident that they love their jobs and they love the cars. They can rattle off trivia for most cars off the top of their head, and they love to talk cars. Pro Tip: There's a covered parking garage to the left of the entrance. Don't miss it, because there are a couple dozen cars and trucks on exhibit there, too! My biggest regret is that Nashville is pretty far out of the way for me so I won't be back as frequently as I would like. But I will be back; count on that! Highly recommended! read more

It was Canada Day. It had been years since I was stateside on this day. I decided to check out a different type of museum and came to Lane Motor Museum. This museum was established in 2002 and features the largest collection of European vehicles in the United States. Well over 150 cars and motorcycles not typically seen in the States appear here. It also has a nice bicycle collection. There is parking in front of the main entrance. I backed my car into a spot and headed inside. I paid for admission with a credit card. It was $12. There are washrooms across from the ticket payment area and gift shop. This museum allows you to explore all car displays at your own pace. There is a huge fan that keeps the main floor cool, although I still felt fairly hot in there with other folks. The only air-conditioned area is a small room where you can eat and drink. There are vending machines in the same room. This museum is a non-profit organization. It was established by Jeff Lane, who is a self-proclaimed automotive enthusiast. He donated his personal collection that started this foundation. He is a director these days, looking at unique cars to bring to this museum. He and his staff take the time researching and restoring each vehicle that becomes a part of the museum. Each vehicle has a detailed description of the car's history and specifications. It's a fascinating look at how cars were when they were hot off the assembly line, and how they have improved in style, technological advances, and safety over the decades. Each section is organized by either the make or the country where the vehicles were from. For example, there is a Fiat section of cars. There's also a France collection of vehicles. There is only one vehicle at this museum that you are allowed to sit in. It's the 1964 blue Citroen 2CV. It's the best place to take photos. There's a place where you can set your phone on a selfie stand and take a picture. I was setting my phone up when a man offered to take a photo of me. It was nice of him. I got into the car, which was meant for folks with shorter legs than mine. What I didn't know at the time was that there was a hook behind the seat and it snagged the back of my shorts. I found out when I returned back to my hotel room that there was a large rip at the back of them. It wasn't noticeable to anyone while I was out and about, including me. I had a tank top that was long and covered the area. It was a first for me. Ah, free ventilation. I noticed nothing because Nashville was so hot that day... lol Anyway, I look back at that photo and have a fun memory of this experience. I thanked the man and continued my tour. There were a few vehicles that stood out: - The 1958 BMW Isetta 300 looked like Little Miss Chatterbox because it was yellow (hair) and fuchsia (dress) . - If you have played Monopoly, you know about the silver car piece. There was a 2009 Monopoly car in silver. - A 1933 Dymaxion replica that looked like a submarine on wheels. - A 1935 Louvet pedal car replica that had a wooden body and, yes, you get your workout by pedalling to make it move. - A 2019 Hot Wheels toolbox on wheels. The gift shop has model cars, books, sweatshirts, and more. I liked the Volkswagen vehicles, especially the flower power bus. I used the women's washroom before I left. It was clean. There were many stalls and the washroom was nicely maintained. This museum is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Otherwise, it's open from 10 am till 5 pm. I enjoyed coming to this car museum. It was different and cool. I learned a lot thanks to the research that staff did on each vehicle. If you dig cars off the beaten path, then Lane's is your kind of place. This isn't somewhere to ogle at muscle cars or race cars, though they have some of those. This is the place that has one of a kind cars; cars owned by celebrities, models of cars that are the hottest of the hot on today's auction block, and cars like you've never seen. Porsches, Citroëns, classic Hondas/Nissans, and cars you've never heard of. How about a cat that comes with its own motorcycle? A car powered by a propeller (both in front and in back)? A bunch of one seaters? How about a cargo carrier that'll hold four tanks? I loved this place soooo much. Take the tour (11:30, 2:00, and a third time I didn't catch). It's totally worth the ten bucks! Not to be ignored is that fact that they get all of these vehicle back into working condition. They're not only there to stare at...they actually work!!! WOW!! This is a must see for vehicle enthusiasts and those that like looking at oddball cars and vehicles! Some will warp your mind! Plan for a couple of hours as it will go fast and bring a good camera as you'll see stuff only a photo will help you explain to others what you marveled at! This was a last minute decision and surprisingly unexpected to find. We really enjoyed this museum and it's contents. My husband loves very unique looking cars and anything antique and Imported cars. You can start looking at cars from the indoor parking lot -which is a free parking- and then come in and check out the pretty good collection of cars inside (fee is $12 per person) this looks like a huge garage turned into a museum. Just astounding. I had heard about it, and came when I was in the area, but I was still shocked by the amount and diversity of awesome vehicles in here. From the street it doesn't look like much. Nice enough, but small. But then... pull into the free visitor's parking garage, and you'll seen enough odd vehicles there, before you've even paid to get in, that it puts some other museums to shame. There's a small lot just outside, and one in front of the building for "oversize vehicles" (recommended, too, if you have bad knees like me and walking is a pain.) There are charging stations in the garage as well. I was already impressed and I hadn't even been in the museum. And then, wowed again, repeatedly. So many perfectly preserved (and often driveable) oddities from around the world. Microcars, racecars, planes, sports cars, motorcycles (though really mainly scooters and foldable mini cycles,) a propellor-powered canoe, cars covered with leather or canvas or wood... So. Much. Awesomeness. Plan on at least a couple of hours. They do tours of the basement annex throughout the day, and if I'd had time I would have done that too (probably another hour or two.) You can walk all around the cars. Please don't touch, and keep a handle on the kids. There is one 2CV you can sit in. I did, of course. Very... wobbly, and tiny. I could see out through the front of the "sunroof." There's a play area upstairs for kids. Get here. If you love cars, particularly weird cars, it is an essential bucket-list item. If you like history and culture, that works too. There's a little gift shop with tons of toy cars, and interesting books. Oh, and a box in the garage with free (make a small donation please) magazines. Seriously- check it out. Worth a detour. read more

When planning my Nashville trip I was surprised to see there was a car museum in town. I'm not one to pass up car exhibits so I had to check it out. When we parked our car we were surprised to see some of the museum cars parked in the garage. The museum itself is not that big so it made sense why there was some overflow outside. There is currently no option to buy tickets online. You can find a $3 coupon on the travel brochure displays you see when you stop at any of the major tourist attractions. The museum starts with an optional welcome video about it's history. I thought it was pretty cool that the venue was a converted Sunbeam Bakery. It took our group less than an hour to see the whole place. There was a nice collection of European vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles from different eras. I especially enjoyed the wingless wonders display which was made up of propeller driven vehicles that never took off. Just 4 miles by freeway from Nashville's downtown/Lower Broadway, this is a great resource for folks with at least a casual interest in European, rare, and exotic cars. (With some trucks, motorcycles, aircraft, and amphibious craft thrown in.) The exotica include a replica of Buckminster Fuller's 1930s Dymaxion car, lots of cute 3-wheeled bubble cars, a 2-wheeled car built around a gyroscope and flywheel, cars built around propellers and rocket parts, a car on skis, and other limited-run oddities and never-manufactured prototypes. The collection and museum were assembled by Jeff Lane, a wealthy, not-crazy collector and restorer who grew up in the Michigan automotive industry, later lived in Nashville, and died in 2024. A large info card (English-only) clearly explains each vehicle's history and significance, without getting too geeky. You could easily spend 3 or 4 hours here, if you choose to read a lot and snap a lot of photos. Admission is affordably priced, certainly by Nashville museum standards. You can get a further discount by bringing in the museum's yellow brochure from your hotel's local-attractions rack. Almost every non-5-star review here is from someone who was disappointed at the lack of American cars. So don't come here to see U.S. production vehicles, because you'll find only one or two - the American collection is all about prototypes and wild inventions. The rest of the museum skews toward British, French (Citroën), German, Czech, Japanese, etc., cars. One real surprise was a sporty fastback that Honda sold in Japan back in 1961, long before they started exporting basic/practical commuter cars to North America. The museum owns about 500 vehicles, displaying 150 at a time. You can pay a bit extra for a group "vault tour" to peer at the rest of the collection. Almost all the vehicles are operational, by design, and the staff of mechanics and restorers periodically take them out for a spin. I thoroughly enjoyed walking around this Museum. I took my 6yr old Son and 2yr old daughter. It was very reasonably priced and the staff were so kind. The day I went was raining so we needed something to do indoor and I am so glad I went there. I wish they had more parking but luckily we got one in the covered garage, but there were cars in there to look at too. The fun thing my son and I did was walk around once and then on the second pass pick your favorite car. There are so many cars I have never seen before and some I wouldn't even imagine could exist. They have the largest collection of European vehicles in the U.S and what has to be one of the most unique car collections in the U.S. let alone the world. I was grateful to be able to leisurely walk around with most of the showroom empty of people and able to spend adequate time reading all the things I wanted to. I learned so much in only 2 hours here and im sure there is much much more to it, but thats the beauty of a good museum... You learn a lot, but you always feel like you can come back and learn even more. read more
