They did great on the car inspection (NY bans dark window tinting unless it came factory installed). Commented on how the vehicle had no rust (Ithaca ices their roads) and suggested we get undercoating done (Daggett's Garage in Dresden was the closest place that will undercoat your car with FluidFilm each October). We did the oil change and minor service. A few months later the transmission gave out (we knew it would happen sooner or later). AAA towed the car to the garage. Hunt's ordered a rebuilt transmission with a 3 year warranty. It was close to $7k but they did a great job. They did the major service and let us know the timing belt was starting to rattle and should be the next major repair and to do it before it breaks. Cars aren't cheap, but I'm grateful Hunts Auto is there to keep the car in good shape. Everyone needs a good mechanic (also Wilcox Tire is a couple buildings down and is the place to go for snow tires).

It turned out I needed several repairs and spent a lot of money at Hunts. Recently they charged me for running the codes for a check engine light, then for diagnosing the problem further, but none of this translated to the labor of repair. They also changed the oil when running the diagnostic, knowing that the oil would be drained the next week for the repair. I do not find that they listen to me when I do the research on my problem, and try to discuss what might be the repair. This last repair cost me about $500 more than it should, in that the diagnosis was repeated, as well as two oil changes within 2 weeks. I felt taken advantage of as a woman.

Even after they acknowledge the fraud (failure to notify the damage they tried covering up).

I didn't ask them to look at it; my car was there for exhaust work. Now I wonder if it really needed the full muffler replacement that cost $380. UPDATE, 2 days later: Mavis/Cole contacted me based on this review, and my husband was separately contacted after giving severe feedback in the customer satisfaction survey he got after this service. Mavis/Cole has reimbursed us for the full cost of the PSF replacement. The store and regional manager apologized for this happening and agreed it should not have been done. (I pointed out that I have a Mavis/Cole receipt from a couple years ago showing that they recommended changing the PSF just 6,000 miles after it had been done at the dealership, when obviously it was not needed--so I think this is an ongoing issue. Caveat emptor!)
