I had a rental car that got a flat. I was frantic, as I needed to get to my 50th high school reunion and had a 4 hour drive ahead of me. Enterprise uses Monro, so that's where I was told to go. My initial reaction to Monro was good. Jeremy seemed sympathetic and on my side. As I sat cooling my heels, I noted what a smooth delivery he had. I had one flat tire. Jeremy said that the tread on all of the tires was at about half life and that all four of the tires should be replaced. Unfortunately, they didn't have compatible tires at that location. I was told that one of their staff, Angel, would get the new tires and have them back there within an hour. Jeremy said that it wasn't advisable to plug the flat tire given the location of the nail. After an hour and a half, there were no tires, and my anxiety was going through the roof. Suddenly a repair person came in and told me they had plugged the tire, and I could be on my way. I asked about the durability of the repair and the service person told me that it wasn't permanent, but would be good for a couple of weeks. I was furious! Why didn't they just plug the tire and get me on the road??? I could have been on the road and gotten new tires when it wasn't time critical. I drove 4 hours straight without stopping. My gas gauge was flashing empty and my bladder was ready to burst. Thank God I made my reunion. My thinking here is that Monro wanted to score a tire sale with Enterprise at my expense...!!! UGGGHHH... I told Jeremy I'd give him a great review, but after my experience...this is what they get. Hey...before you use these people, have a look at the other Yelp reviews. After looking at my vehicle, they told me it would be $2600 to replace a wheel bearing, new brake pads, and that I had a dirty air filter. When I asked about financing options, the guy was pretty much clueless. Took it to the Honda dealership down the street. Paid $1200 for a new wheel bearing and a dim headlight that Monro didn't catch. Honda advised me I was flat out lied to about my brake pads. I would not trust this place's quotes/prices. read more

I made an appointment and when I show up to my appointment the guy was being rude. Asked me why I needed a alignment and tires rotation. Bring the car in finally 30 minutes after my appointment time and told me they cant do the alignment because I need some parts. They wanted me to get a new ball joint and everything will cost $650+ which I said no. Can y'all do only the tire orations. He said "sure". They just parked my car outside and said they can't do the rotation because I need special key to get the tires out which I have in the trunk and they didn't check the trunk for it like they supposed to. First, to start off, if you are considering coming here-don't. I strongly advise you to go to another place in town as this was a horrid experience! When I first walked in, the person that everyone sees as the face of the company, was very rude. to start off, he was barely paying attention to the costumer, I guess his movie was more interesting than money. He was eating obnoxiously loud. He conducted himself rudely with dull posture and a bit of an attitude. He was very difficult to talk with and no one should endure this ever. Next in the notes of what needed to be done, I'm surprised they even had the notes at the end because everything was clearly ignored. The only thing they did right was replace the muffler out of multiple things that needed to get down. After all of this the people proceeded to overcharge me by over $100. I want to be clear in this statement, if you go here you will be pushed around and if you are female you will be overcharged. everyone probably is overcharged anyway. Do not go here because you will never be able to fully recover from all the terrible situations I was forced to experience. I'm not even exaggerating either. I was timid about making the review as I'm new to reviews, but this place broke me from ever holding back because I can't stand the thought of of another person having to experience this ever again! Ah. The warranty. You pay more and it gives you piece of mind. When something happens your spirits are lifted...I paid for a warranty! Then you learn a hard truth...said warranty is invalid. Monro is the most expensive place to get tires. Any place can get you a tire. Monro promised me a warranty at one location that another said they never honor. Stay away!!!!!!!!Since January 16 at 12:45 in the after noon still don't have my car. I took my car in for a radiator. Finally a call back four days later. January 20 at 5:55 says to come pick up the car drive 50 to 150 miles they reset the light and bring back so they can inspect it. I drove about a half a mile away and the car is can barely keep it running cars running horrible they're about to close so the next day 21st the mechanic tells me that he broke a turbo sensor that's why it's running weird every day go's by excuses after excuses now all of a sudden is the massive airflow sensor. Supposedly they ordered it weeks go by weeks go it get lost in the mail in the mail and re-ordering it every couple days be ready tomorrow. it will be ready tomorrow. It's March 18 and I still haven't gotten my car back. I'm renting car through Enterprise paying $424 a week. I have an appointment with council I'm going to sue Monroe of Ithaca for loss of time rental car fees and the value of my vehicle. I feel like they messed up my car and they don't know what they did to it. when I ask front desk, they don't know nothing I have to talk to the who's working on it this is just ridiculous. Can you imagine a worse time for your car to break down than at the start of the 4th of July long weekend? That's what happened to my wife when she drove 5 hours to Ithaca on July 2nd to move our daughter into a new apartment. The power steering failed on our Toyota van around 2pm, just 2 hours before NAPA (parts store) was scheduled to close and 3 hours before Monro's closing time. Fortunately my wife found a good tow company to tow our van to the apartment for unloading. The tow driver recommended Monro for service, that turned out to be an excellent choice The team at Monro were very helpful. They were able to identify the cause of the problem (broken power steering line). They ordered the parts and told my wife they would stay as late as necessary to repair our car. They did get the parts installed 15 minutes before closing and my wife was able to return home that evening. We appreciate the dedication of employees T. Doolittle and T. Ward, who were willing to delay their long holiday weekend to service our car so that my wife would not be stranded away from home for 3 extra days. Highly recommended! read more

These guys are absolutely fantastic. I went once when I was having trouble getting air to stay in my tires and they fixed the problem and didn't charge me anything. I went again to have my snow tires put on and they were professional and efficient. I came back because my tire light sensor was staying on, I needed to unfreeze my windshield wiper fluid, and I needed a new back wiper. They not only fixed all my issues, but showed me how to address some problems myself. And they did so without talking down to me at all, just being friendly and helpful. Oh and when I needed some parts, they instructed me on where I could get them for a good price. I'm not one to write Yelp reviews but these guys are just great. You be the Judge - Past Practice is the Best Predictor of Future Behavior I made an appointment at Mr. Tire Ithaca yesterday to have two tire rim slow Leaks fixed. I spoke with Angel (who is the manager of this Monro Auto Service and Tire Center who was booking reservations for Mr. Tire yesterday). I explicitly said that the vehicle was a Sprinter 170 with 9' 3" clearance. Angle said "no problem, OUR garage doors are 12' tall, if it won't fit on the lift we can change the tires outside." I drove 20 minutes to Mr. Tire and when I walked in was told that they could not fix the tire because my vehicle wouldn't fit on the lift. Explained that Angel had said it can always be done outside. The Mr. Tire Manager said that Angel was the manager at the Monroe Tire outlet and was just filling in. I said, "OK, just do it outside." Was told, we don't work outside in the winter. (It was a clear day, 34 degrees, no wind.). The Mr. Tire manager proceeded to tell me that if I had a problem I needed to take it up with Angle. I Called Angel, who said that he couldn't fix the leaks at Monroe either because they "didn't have any jacks that would lift a van." Uh huh... a garage that doesn't have any roller jacks. He told me he had just gotten off the phone with the Mr. Tire Manager. When I said to both of them "Since you acknowledge that this is your mistake, what can you do to make it right", they both told me "Nothing". Since past practice is the best predictor of future behavior, you be the judge. They make the mistakes, they don't own them, they leave their customer hung out to dry. The irony is I needed four new tires and was intending to discuss purchase with them in the spring. Chris was the best! I visited because my back tire deflated even after I filled it with air on my own. Chris came into the waiting room to show me the nail that had been stuck in my tire (which explained the air leakage). Then, using the tire display in the waiting room, he explained that the nail had been located in part of the tire that meant it could be fixed (rather than the inner wall which would mean a tire replacement). After the car was ready, he helped me start the car up and explained my tire pressure display icon car settings. A very positive, person who explains things well. I could not be more disappointed in a business. I have been a customer of the Triphammer location for as long as I can remember (20+ years?). Kurt, a previous manager had earned my trust by taking care of me and my family with honesty and integrity. Things have drastically changed since his departure. I recently went to this location to get an inspection done. They indicated my vehicle would not pass inspection due to bad front brakes. I allowed them to replace the brakes to pass the inspection. Some time later, I reviewed my prior maintenance records for the vehicle. The brakes had been replaced with OEM parts at the dealership 9 months earlier. I checked my paperwork that Monro had given me after the inspection brake work was done and saw that my brakes were still legal according to their measurements and rating system (green, yellow, red). It was marked yellow. I contacted Corporate and they told me they would not consider doing anything to address my concerns. I will never go there again. read more

I bought a winter wiper blade to have extra last season, tried to attach it and could not get it on so brought it back for help attaching it. The mechanic couldn't figure it out and didn't put the old one back on and questioned why i needed it changed. I asked for any others that would fit in stock and he came out with a blade not in a package, probably a return. (Why couldn't i return mine?). He attached it, insisted on cash at a non-market price (sketchy), and within two minutes of me using it the next day in the pouring rain on the highway, it flies off. So i was stuck without a wiper and could barely see thanks to them. read more

I dropped off my vehicle at Monro for an oil change and brake inspection since my brakes recently started squealing. Nearly *four* hours later Monro called to let me know my vehicle was ready for pickup; no other information was provided. When I arrived at Monro I was told the oil change was complete and even though they "tore my brakes apart" they couldn't find a reason for the squealing noise. They did note some "grinded brake dust" (??) on the rotors which they "cleaned" to fix the problem - I was charged $32 for the oil change only. When I got in my car I saw the Oil Change sticker in the window hadn't been changed. I thought that was odd but chalked it up to the mechanic forgetting to replace the old sticker with a new one. Then as soon as I got on the road I heard the squealing in my brakes again. Since I drive a newer vehicle there is an electronic system check that operates at the push of a button. I initiated this system check and saw the oil change status was still at 53% oil life remaining. Again I chalked this up to a mechanic failing to reset the system but my suspicions were building. Monro wouldn't possibly keep my vehicle for 4 hours and then charge me for services that weren't completed, right....? Wrong. I brought my vehicle to another mechanic approximately one week later and had them inspect the oil. I was informed the oil filter in the vehicle was NOT a Monro filter. Additionally I was told by the mechanic that my brake pads needed to be replaced which resolved the brake squealing noise I was hearing. If Monro is willing to lie to a customer about basic car repair service what happens when the repair is large, expensive or serious? TL;Dr: Do NOT bring your car to Monro. They will charge you for services that haven't performed. As of September 2014 they are under new (corporate) management. Any honest mechanics they *used* to have are no longer here. read more

Had the dealer give me a quote to replace brakes and pads on all four wheels on my car for around $850. Brought it here, and the folks (I was helped by John and Kyle) were very helpful. They showed me exactly where the problems with my brakes were, and showed me exactly what needed replacing and what didn't, and I was able to save a over $400 because of it. They did all of the work in a shop with a window into it from the waiting room so you can see everything they're doing. read more

I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy. I have been ripped off before, but never with such finesse as these guys did. I could have gone to Midas and been Midasized, but I went to Monro and got Victimized. This is my first and last experience with Monro as I tried to work things out with Monro Corporate Customer Service and was basically told to pound salt. Please do not do business with them, as it will encourage them to rip of more people. Whats worse is I was traveling through the area and it was a good thing that I had some extra traveling money with me. If I could rate them with minus stars they would get a minus10.. After I wrote this review, I received a message saying to contact customer service. If they had read the entire review, they would have seen that I did contact them and was told to pound salt. This is another example of how these people do business. I learned a lesson and will never do business with Monro again. I am reporting them to the BBB and Office of Consumer Affairs. Now they can go pound salt as I do everything I can to let people know what kind of rip-offs they are. These people will keep doing business the way that they are and soon there will be no more Monro. read more

I've come here a couple of time just for routine oil changes. I've been able to come in, sit for a brief period of time, and then be out in a timely manner. The staff here have always been friendly and answer my questions. I really appreciated being able to go out with one of the mechanics and see the underside of the car. This place is amazing! Today my vehicle broke down while we were in Ithaca. We live an hour away and had no way to get home. We were able to get the Jeep to Monroe Muffler where John and Joe stayed over two hours past their closing time just to fix my vehicle so we could make it home. Their customer experience and dedication to making sure we didn't get stranded here was amazing and something that you just don't see often. I got a quote for an oil change and tire rotation of $103 for my F350 diesel. When I went to pick it up I was told the total was $196. I told the man behind the counter that I was quoted $103? He told me I didn't know what I was talking about and I must have told the them the wrong motor. Ford has 2 motors for this truck, a gas or a diesel so that could not have happened. He continued to berate me while getting louder as he spoke. He then accused me of "trying to get something for nothing". After he said this several times I asked him to stop calling me dishonest and that I just wanted to pay my bill and get my keys. He was still being loud and told me he would take "$20 off but that was it, you know what your doing." I let him know that I was quoted the original price and that is what I had planned to pay. After more yelling he said he would do that "but you are not ever allowed to come back in this store." This was stated several times also. I've been coming to Monroe for years. I asked him his name and he refused to respond. As I was walking out he continued to berate me in front of the other customers. When I inspected my truck I noticed my tires had not been rotated and took several pictures that clearly show this. I will be sure not to recommend this place to my employees or anyone else and they have lost a long time customer. read more

Easily the worst auto repair shop ever. We took in our Ford Expedition for soft brakes and I knew it had a slow brake line leak. I asked them to flush the brake lines and then find if there was a leak. Instead they called my fiancee back and talked her into $900.00 of un-needed repairs - a new master cylinder, new (very cheap) brake pads, un-needed rotor turning and un-needed brake "cleaning". My fiance pays the exorbitant bill (and they would not give her the parts they took off her car) and gets about three miles away before realizing the brakes were still bad / soft and the pedal still went to the floor. This then required the truck be towed back in and the brake lines flushed, with one showing a leak, as had first thought. These people are easily the biggest rip-off in the auto repair business in the Ithaca, New York area. NEVER ever take your car there. They have a rude desk guy named Chris who uis crass, rude and extremely unhelpful. He is, simply put, a bully towards women customers. read more

My Ithaca friends, I decided to sign up for Yelp just to write this review. I moved to Ithaca from California to attend graduate school. and I brought my Acura TSX along with me. I freaked out one frosty morning when I had to push my brake really hard to stop in the parking lot. Completely scared that would happen again when I go downhill. Since I was new to the area, I decided to go shop for a mechanic shop on Elmira. UNFORTUNATELY, I saw their banner advertising free brake checks, and I thought I would give them a try. Told the manager Jason S Dzikiewicz about my problem, and he appeared to be nice and said he will check for me. Ten minutes later, he told me that I needed new brakes and new rotors, and my rotors were "wraped", which would be causing my problem. He quoted me $900 for putting in new brake pads and rotors, and he said he was giving me a good deal. At that time, I thought paying $900 is worth it if it can save my life. The same thing happened again next year's winter, but this time I have the assistance of a mechanic I really trust. He told me I should have flushed the braking fluid, but not changing the brakes and rotors - That really solved the problem! My mechanic also told me that they actually put in cheap brake pads, and it would make my car even harder to stop in winter. Did I also mention that my mechanic said they only charge $600 for the same job they did for $900? What really annoys me isn't that they overcharged, it is that they talk their customers into unnecessary service, which actually doesn't solve the issue at all. Stopped in on my lunch for a Muffler replacement they said 45 mins. I am at 1 hr 20 mins and almost 30 mins late back to work and my truck is still on the lift! What a crock first excuse was our torches arnt working to well. Then we have put a more experienced mechanic on it. What?!?! Who was the first person working on it then? The only reason I'm here is the free replacement from the previous owner that had the truck. Overpriced unknowledgeable staff, and poor commitment to time. Do not waste your time or money here. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who had an awful experience here. It only took one, so keep in mind my review is from a single visit. It was actually a yearly inspection. They refused to pass me on safety, pointing to some subframe rusting on my vehicle. He told me all about how he got a good deal on a replacement part and could do it for $$$$ (more than vehicle's worth). I had him show me the rust. When I expressed doubt about how serious it was, he got angry and told me no one in their right mind would drive the car. I drove it to my favorite mechanic (an hour away, which is why I didn't go there first). He explained how the rusted component (which was far from breaking) was redundant anyway and passed my inspection free. read more

I read other reviews of Monro only after dropping my vehicle off early and leaving a key and envelope in their lock box....I was concerned as I consider myself a tough customer and the ratings were poor..... I have to say that my vehicle's tire was repaired properly and my oil change & tire rotation complete at the requested time. The manager that cashed out my repair was courteous and professional, accepting two coupons I had which made the tire repair free and the oil change $30 less. I took my car here less than two months ago because my brakes were making loud squealing sounds and asked them to take a look. They said that my brakes were mechanically sound and not worn down at all, with the sound likely being a result of brake dust accumulating or an issue with the calipers vibration. I just took my car elsewhere and they said the brakes were very worn down and that they were essentially unsafe. They pointed to rust, brake dust, and extreme ware on the brakes as issues. They also noted an issue with a pin freezing up. While the last issue could not have been known beforehand by Monro in Ithaca, the others certainly didn't just happen and must have been present when they told me that my brakes were sound. Beyond their clear lack of competency (or perhaps they just didn't actually bother to look at my brakes the first time?), they were not even remotely apologetic when I called them for an explanation. While the person I spoke with is almost certainly not the individual responsible for the issue I had, and dealt with my frustration calmly, Monro did not demonstrate a reasonable standard (or any standard, for that matter) of customer service in dealing with this issue. TL;DR Ithaca has many places to take your car for repairs. Don't go here if you value your time, money, or safety. read more

I don't like to write negative reviews, so I postponed writing this review by a few years because I feel I should help others avoid my experience.. I had a major problem with my exhaust system and went to Monro because I foolishly wanted the job done quickly. I paid for Monro to completely replace my exhaust system (which Monro claimed they did and I paid for). Within the warranty period, the exhaust system failed, so I took it back to Monro letting them know it was still under warranty. The Monro staff person who looked at the car during this visit (not realizing they were the same shop who had done the work) claimed the past exhaust system "needed a lot of work" and that the "past work was just patched together" and had actually had not really been replaced and it was a cobbled together bad job. When I mentioned again that Monro had actually done the work, then their story changed completely and suddenly the job was okay and they just needed to replace one pipe. Long story short, I ended up going back to my regular mechanic who did replace the entire exhaust system. I would not ever trust Monro again. read more

Don't ever bring your car here. I have never written a negative review before on any business because I try to give them the benefit of the doubt but this experience takes the cake. I came to get my car inspected, me being inexperienced did not realize that it would fail no matter what if the check engine light was on. I walked in for my appointment, told the guy up front I was there for the inspection and that my light was on. He said "we'll take a look" and took my car. Came back an hour later, makes me sign papers before even telling me that I failed. He told me then "that anytime there is ever a light on it wont pass inspection". Something he NEVER mentioned when I told him about my light in the beginning. So I said, if you knew the light was on before I even gave you my keys, essentially knowing I would fail, then why would you continue with the inspection and charge me the money when you knew the outcome? You should have told me to go get it checked out and fixed BEFORE wasting my money and time on an inspection you knew I would fail from the start. Ive spent a lot of money on tires and oil changes there and am so disappointed and angry about how money hungry this move was. I will NEVER be coming back and you shouldn't go there either. read more

During what was supposed to be a long trip from Canada to Rhode Island, my car died about an hour and a half from Ithaca (I have a brother there) due to what appeared to be a bad alternator. Had my car towed to Monro Muffler that night (Friday) on essentially a whim and what I thought was the recommendation of my brother (he was actually thinking of the Monro in Lansing) so they could look at it the next day. I called them about 15 minutes before their opening time (so 7:15) so that they could see to it as soon as possible. They got to me within two hours letting me know how much it would cost to have the alternator repaired but they also had concerns about the brakes. They asked if they could take the wheels off and I said they could. They called me again about 30-45 minutes later letting me know that the rotors had rusted away grooves on one side and had worn the brake pads down to nothing (which was better than what they originally thought). Since I had no mental image of what the rotors or brake pads were, he (the guy who seemed to be in charge, never got his name) asked me to come by so he could show me. I was able to compare the relative smoothness on both sides of the rotors. He then showed me that as a result the brake pads on the rough side had worn down to nothing while the other side had about 1/3 left. This wasn't too surprising since the car had gone 20,000-30,000 miles in the last year. The whole thing cost me about $830 after taxes, for the alternator, front brake pads and front rotors. They were done by 11:30 AM that day. The fastest work I've ever had for no-appointment car repairs and part replacement. They also had varying warranties on all of their fixes (I think 1 year on the pads an the alternator, lifetime on the rotors, I'd have to check). On my way out they let me keep the damaged brake pads, which I can probably clean and turn into paperweights. He also ran out to give me the rotors, but I passed on that. He also reminded me to get the wheels retorqued. I drove 3+ hours back to Canada that night without incident. The service was personable and they answered all of my questions. It helped make a harrowing experience for me much more manageable. read more

Let me start off by saying that they do not deserve the one star I am giving them but giving them a negative amount was not an option. I made an appointment here to get an inspection and oil change for a car that was just registered in this state. It was recently inspected in Pennsylvania and passed but had to reinspected to receive a New York registration. I dropped it off at 10am and they told me it should be about an hour and a half...... They called me at 12:30 to tell me that one of my coils was broken and in order for it to pass inspection I needed to replace it, no big deal right? Until he told me it was going to cost almost $800. I definitely do not know a lot about cars but I'm also not a moron, so I told him I was going to take it somewhere else to get a second opinion. He then told me my car would not be ready for me to pick up until 3:30 pm. Then I get there and all of a sudden both coils were broken. Anyway I brought it to another place to get looked at and figured if anything I might be able to get it fixed for a cheaper price but instead found out there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car and it passed the inspection with flying colors. So if anything I hope I was able to help someone else avoid being conned by their shady business practices. read more
