I cannot tell you enough that the owners literally made sure I did everything required to get certified (and I'm a busy entrepreneur who doesn't check his personal email that often)... They're kinda amazing! Their shop also had every piece of equipment I could possibly ask for to get setup for my classes. Ask for Anne or Scott as your teachers (they were the best, and even though I was a nervous wreck for a few of the lessons, they made sure I had a great experience!.

We found out on our vacation that both high pressure hoses had leaks and one of our dive watches no longer worked (we ended up having to spend $ on rental gear, so much for the servicing) When we got home we immediately took our equipment back in. We spent an additional 200 on replacement high pressure hoses and left our watch to see if it was covered under warranty. 3 weeks later after 5 phone calls and emails this week I still can't get an update on my watch that I believe they broke. Take your gear somewhere else, I don't believe they have any clue what they are doing. Scary!

Jim is very educated and truly is a master of his trade. His compassion to properly train his clients is admirable and inspirational. He took me from a snorkler to a scuba diver! No stone was unturned: I really understand everything I was taught and Jim took lots of time explaining things from the basics to the advanced topics. I'm hard to teach because I'm VERY type A and inquisitive, and he was patient and so smart in explaining everything- past what the book and videos show you (Part of your time is spent watching the videos and answering questions and the other part is actually spent in the water before you go to deep water diving) However Jim's clients range in age and skill level! He teaches many courses from your open water to advanced and rescue and more. He teaches 10 year olds! And they were AMAZING! He really knows how to teach because he is so incredibly well versed. And through his many years of experience he can speak to the old versions and methods of calculating and also the new versions and upgraded systems of scuba equipment. And speaking of this, he's also very thorough in managing and cleaning his equipment and tanks. His maintenance schedule is impeccable and he's very, and rightfully so, Type A about this! I was also really comforted by his use of both feminine and masculine updated suits! It makes a big difference to not wear a suit that's just one size fits all! Jim typically works with Riverwinds for the five under water dives before you go to the Dutch Springs Quarry. But I work 6 days a week and explained that this is not something I could make happen. He kindly and professionally opened up his home and back yard 45ft length pool for me to complete my check out dives. The quality of training I received is unmatchable. And Jim prides himself on putting HIS signature on your log book. He wants it to be completed correctly and efficiently. And he makes you laugh as you go along, too! The world of scuba opens up so many doors and opportunities: im grateful to have had the entrance I did into the underwater wonderland that exists on this earth! My experience at Blue Horizon started off great but went downhill fast. Kelly, the owner, was…read moreresponsive, knowledgeable, and attentive when earning my business. She followed up with me many times to schedule time to come in the store and pick out my gear. She spent time explaining different BCD and regulator options, which I appreciated. Based on that experience, I purchased all my dive equipment. I had to pay for the equipment and wait for the items to come in. After a few attempts to pick up my equipment, she told me to come to the store but did not receive my BCD or weights (over $1k paid for these). She told me that the UPS tracking stated the equipment would be there that day, and would call me to come back if they came in. I did not hear from Kelly for months.... I spent over 4-months attempting to obtain my items (calls to store, cellphone, emails, texts). I sent one final email before my last resort of filing a dispute with my credit card, stating I would give Kelly until a certain date to fulfill my order. She responded to that email, with the same excuse I have read in other reviews, that she was calling the incorrect number and getting the run around from the company she ordered the equipment from. I repeated my request for the refund, gave her to the date stated, and then filed the dispute. The final straw for me was, to my shock, her first response to the card dispute stated my claim was "invalid as the merchant has attempted to fulfill goods/services." At the end, the dispute did end in my favor, thankfully. I will never order anything from this store again; it was an absolute horrible experience.

Because these reviews are old, they are not taken into account on their overall rating. I did not take any classes with Blue Horizon (yet) but I can speak to Kelly's professionalism and willingness to take time out of her day to discuss my investment in my first regulator and BCD. After our lengthy 40-50 minute conversation, she sent me an e-mail with several gear options at different price points, taking into account everything we discussed in terms of what kind of diving I would like to do and weighing that with the research I'd already done. The shop specializes in ScubaPro, but Kelly was knowledgeable about Xdeep (my other top contender) and helped me price out what that BCD setup might look like. She even lent me her partner's BCD to test in the pool, So I could make sure it's what I really wanted. The rental tank and regulator set that she lent me was well maintained, clean, and functioned and breathed perfectly - A testament to the equipment being well taken care of, which is never a given with any dive center. So far, I am very happy with the solution Kelly and me settled on. She made sure it was delivered prior to a trip I had planned to Cozumel, and I've taken two dive trips with my new equipment. I love it! so much better than the rental equipment I struggled with prior. I got the chance to meet some of the folks who dive with Blue Horizon afterward, all of whom are lovely people who are becoming new dive buddies and friends. We found Divers Two located down the Jersey shore in beautiful Avon by the Sea. So we decided to take a ride to investigate. Walked in on a sunny cold March Saturday to a very friendly and knowledgeable young woman named Ann. No pressure sale, she asked us about our trip, we needed some snorkeling equipment. She explained all the options, showed us how to test fit masks, explained all the options and price ranges. Didn't make fun of me when I asked silly questions, which I greatly appreciated. I hate when salespeople talk down to you. She was great, took her time, was such a pleasant experience plus I love supporting local businesses! Thank you! I'll be sure to visit again.
