Being in a the uptown section of Lexington be sure to keep your receipt of purchases from other stores. When checking out my child was carrying a stuffed animal that was purchased from a small business store nearby. Oddly enough I guess Ace Hardware sells the same item and the associate asked if "I was going to purchase the item" my child was carrying. I informed her it was purchased at another store. I feel like once I said that the associate should have believed me, but insisted on seeing the receipt. She also mentioned " if she would have seen my child walk in with it she wouldn't need to see the receipt." Well no duh, so I said "call the cops and we can check all the cameras you guys have up." She then said "don't worry about it." I had to call my wife over and she provided a digital receipt from the small business purchase. I don't recall getting a thanks or apology from the associate. Could have been handed better by the associate. Would have been embarrassing if other customers were around but the only other person around was another associate. I've been going there many years and they have a good selection of many different items so I do recommend checking them out. read more

This hardware store is should be on your list of do not enter on your shopping trip.. I was verbally accosted by one of the Lanier twins while looking at spray paint. His words were erratic as he loudly accused me of 'being with the people". And then stating ,'I saw you uptown on the square with all those others'. As a former psychiatric RN, I didn't know if he was on drugs, hallucinating and so I remained calm and walked away. I had Gail Lanier knocking on my door demanding money from a bill that my husband (who I am legally separated ) owed to Lanier Hardware. I had a black friend who is a deputy with Davidson County Sheriff's Dept. 'I will never step foot in that store again because all they did was follow me around everywhere I went. What were they thinking that I was going to steal something.' But to sum it all up a friend went into their store last week and inquired about the rearrangement of the store that was in process and she asked a clerk what was going on. The clerk replied,"you know how it is if you're a Lanier you can get anything you want in this town". read more

Definitely wouldn't call this a hardware store; this is in fact, a general store. They have everything you may need if you've just moved into a new home, or redecorating, or need a quick birthday gift, or a housewarming gift, or baking for a child's birthday, or fixing your lawnmower etc...the list goes on and on. Prices are somewhat on the high side, but still it's a decent deal. I saw items here that I haven't seen in years; like a roasting pan my mom used in the 80's when I was a kid, the original Game of Life, old style corningware everyone's mother owned in the 70's etc. This place looks small from the front but holy friggen cow, it goes back very far and also expands to the left and goes back pretty far as well. We cruised around here with the kids this morning and by the time we left, we had spent an hour just browsing around! Very helpful and personable employees. Will definitely return when we're out and about in Lexington. read more

Lanier's is always there for me in a pinch. I'm not the most handy guy but when I need something they usually have it and can help me with advice on how to utilize or apply something. The staff is always friendly and you can't walk more than 15 feet without bumping into somebody who can help guide you or take you exactly to what you need and or put you in touch with the right person to give you the advice that you need to fill whatever project or in my case emergency that has come up in your business or home. read more

One of the best traditional hardware stores I have visited in years! Nostalgic feel. They have everything from housewares to fishing supplies, in addition to nuts, bolts and everything in between. Need a box of greeting cards? They have them. Their friendly and knowledgeable staff will make you feel right at home. I guarantee you will find something that will make you smile. Walmart and Home Depot are helpless against this behemoth of convenience, selection, variety and service. It is truly the proverbial "if they don't have it, you don't need it" store. Sure, you will pay a bit more for your items but isn't that what convenience, selection, variety and service are worth? An amazing general purpose store that is also a tourist attraction and that's hard to pull off. I have shopped at Lanier Hardware several times and always found them to bend over backwards to answer my questions and take care of my need. They have excellent customer service and know their stuff. They have quality products and stand behind each product they sell. They call me by my name and appreciate my business which makes all the difference. They have been a part of this community for 3 generations and that separates them from the rest of the crowd by a longshot! Every township needs a Lanier Hardware and I will be back again when I need a replacement part or new thingamagig. read more
