There are plenty of sweet options, but the dry wines are great! Mr.Lanthier has refined his skills since they started in 1994 and the juice is from the Great Lakes wineries that have gotten drier over the years. I have been to Lanthier Winery several times. I have found the folks there to be nice and they have a lovely garden area outside with tables and chairs found throughout. My friends and I stopped to sample wine and their flavored vodkas. They also have slushies available They have both wine flavored slushies and vodka slushies. I am not big on the slushies but was definitely up to sample the vodka. My friends bought slushies and a bottle or two of their wine. I really liked one of their vodkas and brought one of those home. If you're in the area, you absolutely must make a short stop at this place! The garden is absolutely gorgeous in the spring. It has endless tulips with plenty of picture perfect spots to stop and hang out. Today my group and I decided to stop by and take part in their wine tasting which was great! A winery just outside of the main street specializing in sweet wines. All wines are free to try. There were about 10 or so on the menu. They also have dipped their hand into distilling! I'm not a sweet wine fan, but gave a few a try. Ending up having a glass of the Chambourcin and hanging out upstairs where there is booth seating. Try the vodkas! Regular and Vanilla currently on the menu. These are $2 a try, not free like the wines. I ended up buying a bottle of the vanilla since it was delicious. I imagine it would be great with some cocktails. Upstairs is the "art gallery" with seating and lots of quilts on display. In a nice way it reminded me of someone's grandma's house. A cozy place for a quick glass of wine though. There was no music on, and we were the only people in the place so a bit quiet. I would be back to grab some more vodka if I am in town again- and they are expanding to gin soon! read more

Nice outside gardens, dark dark interior with minimally friendly hosts. The upstairs has cute booth areas to sip away at the wines. Wines on average are $21.50 a bottle, no true stand outs. Blackberry was a sweet good choice. Beware..... that upon entry is the killer step of sobriety! I nearly sprained my knee upon walking in the dark building and surely many before me have stumbled all whilst being sober. May want to fix that step. read more

This was our second winery stop in Madison, Indiana. We walked over from Thomas Family Winery. I think it is around a one mile walk, and if the weather is agreeable, the walk is lovely! The historic homes and buildings are beautiful! Lanthier Winery is absolutely charming-looking as you walk up to it. It certainly LOOKS more like a winery than other in-town wineries I have been to (both in Madison and in other towns or cities). It is a little confusing at first where to enter, but pay attention to the signs and you will find your way to the tasting room. You walk a short way through the small garden to the entry door, and once inside you are greeted with a shouted "Hello!" (because a tall shelf of stored wine blocks the view of/from the tasting bar and register area. You may also be greeted by one of the winery doggos! That was certainly a highlight of the visit...anytime a sweet pup comes over to say hello to me, anywhere, is a highlight. Again, tastings here are free of cost and you are welcome to sample as many or as few as you choose. They have a fairly impressive list, in the arena of the number of different wines offered! I ended up tasting 5 or 6 wines, and stayed towards the sweeter side of things. The older gentleman doing our tasting was friendly and sweet and was a joy to have our experience with. He shared a lot of information about the town as well, including upcoming cultural events and and festivals where the winery would be making an appearance. We absolutely enjoyed our visit here and I even bought a bottle of wine to take home! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the Madison area! read more

As many year as we've been stopping in here, I never knew it was a trading post and fortress. It had rifle ports that have been filled in with beautiful glass. We found this winery when we received it in our online order by mistake, back in 2018. We missed out on ordering it last year so I set a reminder and it just popped up. We just ordered a case and received 20% off so that at least he'll pay for shipping. This made it worth while and will be a great grift to several of our family members this Christmas (especially since none of us are getting together this year). The wife and I are nit sweet wine drinkers and only drink reds. This, surprisingly, is a well done sweet wine that we enjoyed and had no problem finishing of the bottle. I'm not the wine expert, so I won't try and describe the taste. Maybe because it's a once a year holiday wine, we are more open to a sweeter wine but for sure it's just done very well. I called and got an answer right away from a nice man. I asked if the wine was now available and he said "yes, just became available November 1st". I had not planned to order a whole case but instantly thought of 10 or so people we could gift this to, so that would leave us 2 bottle to enjoy. Since we are not spending money on other gifts or in travel to visit out of state relatives, it's no problem spending this amount on an entire case. I think it's even more important this year to send a gift or the Christmas cards you get lazy and never send out, due to this darn epidemic and the state out society is in. So get off Facebook and make a call to everyone on that contact list, even if they are people you rarely talk to, and say "Just wanted to say Hello and Happy Holidays, personally, and not just a posting on some online social media site". Now normally I'm a wine drinker, but one thing stands out from my recent visit: the Cherry wine spritzer! It's a super sweet cherry wine, but you can taste it either with dark chocolate kisses or as a spritzer. I swear the spritzer tasted very similar to a cherry soda! I enjoyed all the wines they had to offer and especially liked their Riverside Red. I also had a glass of their Chatauquablumchen which is a semi-sweet catawba blush wine. I normally don't drink that much semi-sweet, but it just seemed to go along with the beautiful day and the amazing gardens! So many tulips! I wish my tulips looked that good! I could see the gardens being a perfect setting for any kind of photography. The interior of the building is gorgeous with tall wine racks and draped lighting. You can even go up a steep staircase to sit at a couple tables tucked away up there. The winery is right down the road from the river so you also get great views while wandering the gardens. read more
