The river chalet sits on the edge of Clearwater river and there's no other human life for miles around. It's just you, the flowing river, the sky, trees and wildlife. Very serene, rustic and memorable. The chalet is an old log cabin with no phone, no television, no hot water and only a small fridge and stove. You make your own fun, and that's the best kind of all. There's a giant balcony where you can sit and watch the river rush by and laugh with the stillness and calmness inside you, like old friends. The wilderness is so restorative. You're deep in the woods and you need to watch your back for beers. We spotted one about 50 feet off on a hike, but kept our talking loud so as not to alarm it, and it just lumbered off. We went over Canada Day long weekend. The river was swelling and the mosquitos were thick. Thank god for the mosquito nets around the beds. The old, wooden structure has a few holes where the bugs get in, so we had to smoke out the place with bug repellant coils a couple of times, so you need your bug spray. There's also a 25-minute hike in from your car to the chalet. If you don't like to sweat, or get a little dirty, this isn't your type of vacation. It's not a 5-star hotel, t but it will be an experience of a lifetime. Star-gazing, waterfall hikes and waking up to the sight of a river rushing by below you are priceless. But it's only about $125 a day to rent. Split between a few people, that's a cheap holiday getaway. Almost time to book for next year!

From the moment we arrived we where welcomed with open arms....Molly one of the ranch dogs was the first to greet us as we drove down the driveway. I have to honestly say Martin and Bernie and the girls blew us away and exceeded our expectations!!! We wanted a vacation to remember and to do some riding and wow...ride we did. We rode aprox. 6 hours a day on some of the most breathtaking trails in the area. We are both riders and have both done trail rides but nothing like this. This just took our breath away. The views from the mountain tops and the beautiful lakes made for the most amazing experience and some great photos. The horses are so well cared for. Bernie take pride in her herd and you can see it just by spending some time her and with the horses. She loves to share her knowledge of horses with you and I have to say I not only had a great vacation I also learned a lot. As for relaxation I can't think of a better place to unwind and relax after a day in the saddle. Martin made the freshest most amazing homemade meals. Coming back from a morning ride to homemade chicken soup with salad to homemade burgers, guacamole and the best blueberry pancakes ever with fresh squeezed orange juice!!! We were so spoiled!!! The atmosphere was very laid back and the owners and volunteers actually sat down at the table and enjoyed meals with us. Honestly by the end of our 6 night stay it was hard to leave as you really start to feel like family as you spend so much time with them. We made some great friendships with other guests and with the volunteers and we are already talking about our next trip back to visit.

This time, I was well prepared for a fantastic day of hiking and exploring. Lets get to it! Glacier NP is located off of TransCanada Highway 1...58 kilometers or 36 miles northwest of Golden, British Columbia. You need to have a Canada Parks Pass for admission. It's $10 per person per day or I purchased a yearly pass for $72 which includes entrances to Banff and Jasper Parks as well (this is definitely the best route to go). The nearest towns to Glacier NP are Golden and Revelstoke and I recommend you purchase sandwiches and snacks ahead of time at the grocery stores or otherwise you won't have food for your hikes. There's not many tourists visiting this park. It's very under the radar. There were some hikers on the trails but you mostly have nothing but time and space to appreciate the great outdoors. Many people think of Glacier NP in Montana in the United States (which is one of the best that the USA has to offer) as the one and only Glacier Park... But if you're leaving the Banff and Lake Louise area of the Canadian Rockies and heading west and south down to Vancouver, you'll run smack straight into this stunningly beautiful park. Here's the primary differences between the USA Park and here in British Columbia... - This Canadian Park is a hiking park. That's all that is offered. If you want to get out and see the sights of nature, you have to earn it by hiking. It's not like driving the famous "Going to the Sun Road" in Montana where there'll be multiple stops along the way to capture magnificent overlooks of some of the most glorious sceneries in America. So...here at Glacier NP of Canada, it's like a blue collar, no frills park. There's a Visitor Center that's open 9am - 5pm daily and it's here where I met with a ranger and they suggested day hikes to get the best experience out of the park. The first hike is GREAT GLACIER TRAIL - it's certainly one of the more popular hikes because of the scenery at the end of the trail. You'll be afforded 2 different terrific perspectives of snowcapped peaks and mountains in one grand setting. Great Glacier Trail is 4.6 kilometers or 2.85 miles each way with moderately strenuous elevation. It begins about 4 kilometers down the road from the Rogers Visitor Center. Be on the lookout for the Illecillewaet Parking Lot (yes I swear I spelled that correctly) and then you'll discover the trailhead. Also good about this Great Glacier Trail is that the next hike I was taking for the afternoon to MARION LAKE started from the same vicinity. MARION LAKE - 2.1 kilometers or 1.3 miles each way but it's all uphill with constant switchbacks. I'd classify it as pretty strenuous and is part of the bigger - Abbott Ridge Trail. When arriving at the lake, I thought my eyes had deceived me, lol. But it had to be one of the most pristine, symmetrical lakes I have witnessed anywhere. And an added bonus is situated just 1/4 of a mile walk past Marion Lake, you'll discover a rewarding lookout capturing the rugged mountains and TransCanada Highway 1 together in the distance. It's like one of these penultimate instances at Glacier NP that takes your breathe away. In total, navigating along 2 day hikes, being immersed in nature and having no worries is the reason I returned to Glacier NP of Canada. That indescribable feeling of pushing yourself to conquer difficult hiking trails cannot be duplicated. The end results are worth it. It's what keeps my candle burning brightly. Finally, 47 kilometers or 29 miles southwest of here sits Mount Revelstoke National Park. It's just as fun as Glacier NP and together you get to check 2 Canadian National Parks off your To-Do List.

A month before they said they were going to charge $10 a head for everyone coming for the hour of the memorial. This was not told before and if it was we could have found a hall for free since my family knows so many kind locals and our family has been living at and going to that campground since the mid '80's. The man (Jiri) told me to call him (I was corresponding via FB messages). I knew how controlling they are so I said no and then the owner contacted my grieving father and told him lies about the conversation making him very upset just weeks before his wife's memorial. Without going into personal details, it was very hard on his emotions and health and we had been trying to keep what he had to do to a minimum. When I got to the campground the owners had given away my cabin reservation and put me in one of the rustic cabins. When I was upset about that they told me to leave 2 hours before the memorial!!!! I had food for feeding my family, it was our first reunion in 20 years and the first time my dad had been with his siblings for over 40 years. These people ruined it (well we still enjoyed seeing each other but the owners made at least 3 of us cry and more upset). In the rustic cabin it was so cold and I had to use a wood fire and almost died in there due to no air. There were no bathrooms and no kitchen.I ended up with bug bites, maybe from the beds. The next day the owners got mad at my brother and family because the dad was sistting on the tramp with his baby and they said only 1 person on the tramp. He was 'sitting' with a baby. They then made them leave at 6pm and there were 2 motorhomes to move somewhere at the last minute. There's more.... but basically, these people made the entire weekend miserable. They only take cash as well, so people had to run into the local store and use the bank machine.

The #1 listed activity was to visit 3 waterfalls, and this Moses Falls was part of the list. I thought to myself...."waterfalls? I love waterfalls! I'm a waterfalls' enthusiast!"...and so here I am getting to talk about the efficient roadside stop that is...Moses Falls! It's located about 7.5 kilometers or 5 miles outside downtown Revelstoke. Pretty easy. I parked in the small dirt road lot and then trekked down a fairly steep but manageable pathway within the forest for maybe 1/3rd of a kilometer. And then the waterfall was right in front of my eyes. I especially liked the view here as Moses Falls trickled down the side of a rock wall. No frills to it, and it was a quick picture to capture. Best of all, the sun pierced through the trees for the afternoon visit and really accentuated the backdrop. I noticed some visitors were in their bathing suits for getting wet. The falls splash down into a pool which blends among a gentle flowing stream. Moses Falls is simply a nice getaway into nature and a pleasant surprise considering most tourists coming to Revelstoke drive the Meadows in the Sky Road within the national park boundaries. Finally, who knew? Not only does Tim Hortons sell the best pastries, bagels and coffee in Canada, but so cool of them to mention rewarding places around Revelstoke to discover at your own leisure.
