We found an amazing Turkish rug at Larchmere. The owners were extremely knowledgeable and allowed us to try several rugs in our home prior to making a decision. We took our time and selected the perfect rug for our master bedroom and couldn't be happier. I will certainly do business here again and would recommend the shop for anyone looking for a high quality rug. Further, we took 4 of our existing rugs in for cleaning, and they were returned promptly, clean and perfect. No issues at all with the cleaning. Lastly, I read many negative reviews oriented toward either the dog at the shop or toward rude service. My experience with the owners was warm and professional, and I had no issue with a free-roaming dog on premises. I rather like having animals around, regardless of personality. read more

This store gets two stars, because quality of the rugs is the highest, and they are beauiful. However, I found the owner dismissive, and frankly unpleasant. She asked basic question, starting with price point, size and color, offered back nothing. A good sales person invites a customer in, listens, and even when an item is above the price point is able to spin the enticement. There was no "Are you familiar with", ...and "look at this detail - you won't find that in a more value priced rug" or even "Now these two rugs play off one and other and make a handsome pair." Nope. She offered to unfurl a rug, but she never suggested one to unfurl! And since that are all mostly tightly rolled up, how do you choose? I left after 20 minutes. Maybe she was having an off day. I am in the early stages of building a house and am looking for multiple rugs for the first floor. I have had some great rug buying experiences in the past with Jonathan from Rug Time in Chagrin Falls, but sadly he is no longer in business. This experience was slightly different. If first impressions are key, I am shocked Larchmere Oriental is still in business! My daughter and i drove there and arrived 10 minutes after they opened. It was one of those 40 degree and rainy Oct days in Cleveland where you wish you had stayed home. We ran from the car parked a block away to the front door of Larchmere Oriental only to be locked. The woman owner annoyingly walked from the back of the store with her ankle-biter dog to inconveniently let us in her place of business. I mentioned my interest in a Heriz/Persians and that i had to basically buy several rugs. She asked where i was in the process and told her they were breaking ground in the next few weeks. Then her level of interest in serving me went from a 3.5 to a 1 out of 10. We looked at several rugs in the back and she helped me pull them out and lay them out... yeah, you read correctly.... she helped me. They were all nice but severly over-priced despite the 40% off sale. I told her i prefer the deep reds, blues, and geometric prints of the heriz. "Prints" You would have thought i offended her first born. She answered with such offensive disdain, " Do not call them prints in this place of business...they are designs!" Well, tell you what i won't do.... I will never buy anything from you.... EVER! I asked my 10 year old daughter on the way home what she thought? She said Daddy, i don't think i would buy from her. Well sweetheart you know what you are absolutely right! If you want to be treated like a serf, and overpay for a rug I would highly recommend using Larchmere Orientals to get a nice antique rug lathered in poodle urine! NEVER AGAIN! This owner (Erdogan Gezer) treated me so poorly when I stopped in actively searching for a 9 x 13 rug. He treated me as if I am beneath him and he was doing me a favor by even helping me. He said a few condescending comments regarding whether or not I could afford what I was looking at (I can!), bring my husband in to make the decision (he knows nothing about me). I literally saw 5 rugs he had the helper unroll for me in an hour. Took so long because he doesn't know his own inventory regarding colors, etc. He flat out insulted me several times to the point that his helper (a very nice man), was rolling his eyes in astonishment. Did not see a dog, but I did notice an odd smell when I walked in. read more

I was in the area looking at antiques and decided to mozy into Larchmere Oriental Rugs simply to look around and see what they had. We were greeted by a very angry poodle lunging at the door and barking. After the owner calmed the dog down, she made it fairly obvious by her demeaner and tone that she didn't feel like we belonged in her shop. Although they seemed to have a fairly decent selection of rugs, there prices were extremely high for the quality of the rugs in their inventory. I have purchased numerous Oriental rugs in the past and felt the prices were unfair. Although I had no intention on buying anything on the day I visited anyways, I certainly wouldn't return in the future, especially after seeing their dog bounce all over the entire inventory without any concern for the fact that I may not want a dog dry-humping my new rug. Great rug buying experience! I was lost after 30 years of service by john Davidian in Chagrin Falls, but rescued by a helpful referral to Larchmere Oriental Rugs! I walked in without an appointment and unknown to the owners. They spent two hours talking rugs with me and showing me their treasures. multiple other customers, known and unknown to them came through and all were unfailingly greeted warmly and questions answered patiently. Their dog Cocoa was a sweet accompaniment to the experience; very quiet, friendly and relaxed, like Sarah the co-owner and Erdogan the founder. They helped me find superb selections for my home, cut pads. loaded my car and even came by my home, on short notice, two days later to deliver more rug pads. in my home, they were careful, efficient and very helpful! Their knowledge base is a superb resource for the area as is their extensive and fairly priced inventory. I cannot repeat enough good things about my customer service and buying experience with Larchmere Oriental Rugs! Erdogan, Sarah, Juan and Cocoa the dog are great! read more

I have an antique oriental rug that needed to be cleaned and have the border cut off, as it was stained and torn. I read some negative reviews and was a bit apprehensive. Soooo glad I ignored those reviews! Picked up my rug today, and their work is first rate. The carpet is brighter and clearer than it has been in years. Their repair work is first class, done meticulously by hand. Am very pleased. (by the way, yes, there is a poodle there - very docile and gentle, AND, I am not particularly a "dog person") Highly recommend. They have an appreciation for quality and craftsmanship. read more

Never been there and visited today and will NEVER RETURN, was in the market for a rug for the living room so went to check this place out. I walked in and it was instant chaos with a barking dog that wasnt friendly and scaring my children. The owner took her sweet time getting that barking annoying dog away from us. She had the dog come sit on her 3900 rug or so. So finally after the dog greeting i noticed the dog smell and thought to myself well i sure dont want a rug that smells like dog but maybe ill see what they have. I told the woman size and color of rug idea and she said hold on and walked to the back. I started looking around and noticed almost every rug was $2500+, so when she returned i politely said just so i dont waste your time but our budget is around $500 , we are just looking for something to cover the Living Room up a bit. She responded with a GASP AND HANDS OVER HER HEART LIKE I JUST INSULTED HER and proceeded with this line " I HAVE NOTHING TO SHOW YOU. MAYBE TRY HOMEDEPOT OR WALMART OR EVEN ONLINE. THESE ARE HAND WOVEN RUGS" you wont find anything that cheap in here. I thought well alrighty then i will take my peasant self to the lowly homedepot or the disgusting walmart. Im sure you think im just sensitive or maybe exaggerating, but do yourself a favor and if your middle class like me that isnt pompous or looking to finance a piece of rug that kids and animals and myself will walk on, play on, spill stuff on. I have purchased no less than 7 area rugs from this business in the last three years. My latest purchase was early October of this year (2017), and my experience there was same as always, owners generous with time and effort to help you find the perfect rug for your space. I continue to buy my rugs there because the selection is artistically inspiring. The owners who are the staff, are cooperative to the point of bringing a selection of potential rugs to my home to "try on". I have had to bring rugs in for cleaning (occasionally they have been soiled by our dog) and I have found their service to be competitively priced with others doing the same work, but the work is completed much more quickly than turn around time quoted by other places doing similar work. The stock here is consistently high quality, which means less time wading through stacks of junk, and more time being dazzled with the esthetic possibilities of what such beautiful handmade rugs might inspire. They are worth the trip to the unique and underrated Larchmere commercial district if you want something special. read more

Run, don't walk away from this store. First of all, a yapping, aggressive dogs greets customers that enter the store. Larchmere Oriental Rugs does have a nice, large selection of carpets, but the prices are quite high, even when they are "reduced." I did buy a rug from them because I couldn't find one I liked better. More angering, I think they were selling substandard pads that damaged my carpets (bought from them and not bought from them). In once case, they delivered to my home a pad that they had duct-taped together from smaller padding pieces. Not acceptable. In another case, they marked on the pad with a red permanent marker. Over time, that red ink rubbed onto my dhurrie. It was a two-sided carpet. Now it's not. Thanks so much, Larchmere Oriental Rugs. read more

The only reason I'm not giving this store one star is because they do have an impressive selection of lovely rugs. But if you're expecting customer service, you're not going to get it here. Like another reviewer mentioned, you're greeted at the door by a little yappy poodle who rubs his butt all over the rugs in the store. Then after we mentioned a price range (which may have been modest, but certainly not out of the realm of possibility), the owner literally laughed in our face and proceeded to turn his back on us as if we were not even worth his attention. Maybe we aren't ready to spend $4000+ on a rug at this point in our young professional lives, but when we are ready to make that sort of plunge, we certainly will not be returning here. read more

Normally, I don't post reviews, but in this case, I was so put off by the owner, I felt obligated to. We came to the store on a recommendation. We're from Ann Arbor, and are looking around for a good nice Persian rug for our living room. We were greeted by the owner and a yappy obnoxious poodle. I didn't mind the dog, but the English woman we encountered (I'm presuming the owner) acted as if she didn't have the time of day for us, even though there was no one in the store. I mentioned what we were looking for in terms of color, region, knot count. And she seemed even more annoyed. Her response "we don't even look at knots per square inch in terms of quality." Are you kidding me? Knowing the knot count is an integral part of determining quality. She then added that they look at print, wool, and individuality of the rugs they sell. I guess this is ok, but from what I know of these rugs, construction is paramount. I guess what put us off the most was the fact that the English lady didn't seem to want to help. And when I asked questions about what they had in the store, she didn't seem interested. Then another customer came in the store--someone who had clearly brought a rug there--who was bringing it back for cleaning. The English lady seemed more interested in that then trying to help us find something. Bottom line, bad customer service from a disinterested owner. Too bad, if she would have paid attention, she might have made $10k in sales this morning. We won't be going back there. read more

Recently I brought in three antique rugs for cleaning. One was a fine large antique rug that my old cat had several "accidents" and despite trying over the counter products to remedy the situation, all failed. I then found moths in this beauty and the two others. After talking with the owners, we decided to clean and treat the rugs for moths and urine staining. I can not tell you how impressed I was when the rugs were returned! Absolutely beautiful. Silky, soft, no bleeding of color! I almost thought I had to throw out these beauties but they saved them and they were more beautiful than when I originally purchased them. In my opinion (and I work with antiques and fine art) the owners ABSOLUTELY KNOW RUGS! BETTER THAN ANY OTHER SHOP IN TOWN (and I have tried others). I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this shop and if you care about your rugs do not hesitate to use them. They are hand washed, not run through a cleaning machine and then "sanitized". DO NOT USE LARCHMERE ORIENTAL TO CLEAN YOUR RUGS! We have several beautiful and expensive wool felt rugs that we needed to have treated for moths. I was worried about having them cleaned as not many people know how to clean them. The owners assured me they knew how. They also wrapped them for our move to the west coast. Almost $1000 later for all our rugs only to find that they permanently stained our largest rug and the texture was forever changed. In addition, our oriental was stretched on one side and no longer sits flat. Now that we live in San Diego we have no way of doing anything about it. I contacted Larchmere Rugs and they took zero responsibility. Many people on Nextdoor.com recommended Larchmere Rugs to me although I now have no idea why. I wish I had also checked Yelp. I am new to the Cleveland Heights area. I drove by the shop many times and decided to stop in and take one of my rugs to be cleaned. Like many other reviews, I was greeted by the nasty, barking poodle. I am a huge dog lover so I tried to let the dog smell me so as to calm the dog down. The dog never stopped yapping. If this was my shop, I would keep the dog at home. Then, I encountered the equally as nasty male owner. He was so unbelievably rude. He scoffed at my rug because it is a wool machine made rug. I did leave it there for cleaning despite my annoyance with the customer service. I do have several good handmade Persian rugs at home that I wanted to have cleaned as well, but I will be finding somewhere else to take them. When I went to pick up my rug, again I was greeted by the yapping dog. The owner brought my rug out from the back and dropped it on the floor. Then the English woman rang me up. AVOID Larchmere Oriental Rugs! ASTONISHINGLY RUDE co-owners, to an extent that it's amusing to see them in action. They behaved with hostility toward me last week when I stopped by to shop for 2 mid-to-large rugs (1 of which I bought yesterday from somewhere else - a reputable rug broker in NYC). I've bought multiple oriental rugs for my homes three different times - once during a visit to Istanbul (Turkey), once in San Francisco from a very reputable rug broker, and once at an online auction site that has good merchandise. Each time with the OTHER rug brokers, it was fun buying the rugs and those OTHER rug merchants were great at sales (charming and informative). By comparison, Larchmere Oriental's owners have ZERO politeness and negligible customer service ability. I stopped at Larchmere Oriental Rugs because I need 2 rugs (12'x15' and 10'x14'). When I asked questions about certain rugs, the female owner treated me with incredible disdain. I had read the terrible online reviews, so I had been skeptical and reluctant visit this store because of the MANY ONE STAR REVIEWS (negative online reviews), but 2 close friends kept urging me to visit Larchmere Oriental. When I did visit, the owners EXCEEDED their TERRIBLE ONLINE REVIEWS!! So much so that it was funny. It's worth stopping in here just to see what NOT TO DO in customer-facing roles. Their inventory is OK, some nice designs. Their rugs are very overpriced for what they are offering (as compared to buying hand-knotted rugs closer to the source, or at auction for that matter). I have been buying rugs from these folks for years, and made several purchases. They are willing to bring rugs on site, and are extremely helpful in selecting the appropriate rug, style, etc and stay within budget. They will also allow you to upgrade and trade in if you bought your rug there, and its in good condition. I have had rugs cleaned there, and they are predictably perfect. They are not high pressure, and there is plenty of inventory. They seem as invested in making you happy with your purchase as making the sale. read more

We have used Larchmere Oriental Rugs for a number of years. While we have never bought any rugs from them, we have had orientals, repaired, cleaned and appraised. They do an excellent job on repairing and cleaning (they even will properly prepare rugs for long-term storage). I had my oriental rug cleaned at Larchmere Oriental Rugs. In my opinion, they have ruined my rug. The dye bled and the rug looks terrible. There are two reasons that this end result of the cleaning process surprised me. First, the owner touted their expertise and rug cleaning process when I dropped the rug off. Secondly, the rug had been cleaned twice before by Arselanian Brothers and this bleeding did not occur. I spoke to the owner of Larchmere Oriental Rugs who offered no solution to the damage that had been done to my rug. read more
