The invoice was initially $1,347.39 and was only reduced to about $1,100 after we disputed the charges and removed some products. A "flat rate" quote turning into four figures once someone is already in your home is not transparent pricing. From the moment the technician was in our apartment, the entire experience became high-pressure. We were told various add-ons and products were "mandatory," and the total kept climbing in real time. We also felt pressured because the technician would not leave until payment was received. This is not how a reputable service should operate, especially in a family's home. We were explicitly told that both parents being checked was required as part of the process. We initially refused, because we had already checked ourselves and were confident this was a school exposure and that our daughter had likely picked it up that morning. We were then told they would not proceed with treating our daughter unless we agreed to be checked, and only after that pressure did we eventually reluctantly comply. Both my husband and I were checked. Neither of us had lice. Yet the bill still ballooned from $270 to an initial $1,347.39 (and then about $1,100 after dispute). We also dispute the "severe" classification, but regardless, clarity matters: if there are severity tiers, surcharges, home-visit fees, and "mandatory" products, those need to be disclosed clearly before anyone shows up--not after you are already in a stressful situation. Additional serious concerns: * We specifically requested a female lice expert because we are religious and the patient is a young girl. They sent a man anyway. This should have been clearly communicated in advance so we could make an informed decision, not discovered at the door. * The technician barely spoke English, and whenever we asked a question or needed clarification about what was being done or what we were being charged for, he would suddenly stop speaking English altogether. That made it extremely difficult to understand what we were supposedly agreeing to in real time. Clear communication matters, especially in a stressful situation involving your child. * They do not accept credit cards. We were told payment had to be made via cash, Zelle, or Venmo only. For a New York company with a website and significant marketing, refusing credit cards removes standard consumer protections and makes it much harder to dispute charges. In our case, that payment setup amplified the pressure and left us feeling cornered. This ended up being a day where we were so stressed by the escalating bill and refusal to leave without payment that we were close to calling 911 just to get the situation de-escalated. That alone should tell prospective customers what they need to know. To be clear: our daughter did have lice, and we do not dispute that treatment was necessary. What we do dispute is the lack of upfront disclosure, the bait-and-switch style escalation from a $270 quote to four figures, and the high-pressure tactics used in our home. It's taken me awhile to write this review bc I never like to hurt someone's business. However I had an incredibly unpleasant experience with this person. She came into my home and right off the bat made me feel super judged about the cleanliness. I'm clean but it gets messy by Sunday which is when she came. She refused to take her shoes off and suggested it was bc my floors were too dirty which is incorrect and downright rude. She was mildly hostile and did not put me at ease in a stressful time. Add to that that it cost something like $1500 and only one person had lice (my daughter age 11) plus I had some nits. She told me I had to check and treat all my babysitters through her or the warranty was broken. She told me I had to buy 3 bottles of shampoo for each person (at $30 a bottle) or the warranty was broken. She was kinda mean. Def will never be using them again. read more

I called every lice removal service in NYC, and this was the only company that had availability at this hour. By 10:20 pm, only 45 minutes after our call, Eliana was at my door with a big smile. She was so kind, comforting, and reassuring throughout the whole process. I have a very thick head of hair and needed two treatments, and my roommate needed to be checked as well. Eliana was here for over three hours and stayed positive and focused the whole time. She was extremely informative and had helpful answers to my many questions, and she even gave us a free book about lice prevention. I cannot recommend this company enough. Unfortunately cannot recommend this company. While we were initially pleased with their responsiveness in a very stressful situation, they did not get rid of my daughter's lice, which they acknowledged during a follow up visit (which we paid extra for). We did an extra 2 weeks of treatment and the nits persisted and she now has full blown lice again. So, the "all natural" treatments do not work, and they do not do as good of a job on the combing as other places, rendering the whole thing a waste. And it was very expensive. This was the second time that we hired Larger Than Lice. The first time, we were pleased - although it cost us over $1000 to delouse 3 people. I was so frustrated I felt helpless and was just happy to have my wife and kids treated. This time, we caught it pretty early and only my two daughters needed to be treated. My wife checked them both and saw that both of them had lice. LTL came - the guy arrived at 3:30, treated two people, and left at 7:30. 4 hours. I was charged over $700! And he gave me a substantial discount for paying cash! He checked the kids hair and charged us $25 each for this even though we already knew they had the problem! Of course, they charged us $90 for shampoo, but jeez! That is a lot of money! I sent an email to LTL to ask for an explanation but they didn't even respond! I highly recommend LTL. They were referred to me by another Mom. Eliana and Aldo are professional, kind, gentle and take their job very seriously. I was comfortable with them in my home and they were very good with my 3 1/2 year old son. Eliana was at our home within 4 hours of making appointment. She deloused me, my son and husband in about 4 hours. The fee was less than if I had hired someone who worked hourly -- even including the cost of the shampoo ($30 per bottle per person) and comb ($15). The best part was, we followed the treatment protocol (shampooing every other day for 2 weeks) vs having to comb out our hair. Aldo came to check us 2 wks later (additional charge). Amazing! Finding out that my two daughters and me all had lice was a very traumatizing experience. Not only did the Fairy Lice Mothers get rid of lice for us, but they also made me feel so much better emotionally as well. Eliana just left my house after checking my family for lice. She was so wonderful that I don't even know where to start! She and her assistant, Marcia, arrived at my house shortly after I called and they were right on time. They were so kind and warm, that my younger son, who is very shy around strangers, was so at ease and was acting as if they were members of the family that we have known forever. They gave all of us thorough examinations and found us lice free. Without them, we would have had to go to our pediatrician and sit in the sick office and possibly catch something. I never thought I would have to use a lice service but after three days of combing out my entire family for 6 hours and the problem only getting word, I saw that I needed some help. Eliana came that day and quickly got to work. She started with my children and immediately set them at ease, something I was concerned about. My children are 2 and 4 and while they like to socialize, they don't exactly like strangers combing their hair for hours on end... especially when they had done plenty of that the past couple of days. No one wants to have to find themselves battling lice, but Eliana makes dealing with it and getting rid of it as painless as possible! Don't hesitate if you're feeling overwhelmed by a newly discovered lice case- just contact her! We found a bug in one child's head right before bedtime. I contacted Lice Treatment Group through Yelp late that night, and very soon after at almost midnight Eliana texted me cheerfully and promised that she could be at our place at 9 am the next morning! She came in smiling, immediately put the whole family at ease, and turned out to be as professional and competent as she is sweet. She found lice in 3 out of 4 of us and then worked through our heads thoroughly, calmly and happily --through lunch -- to get the three of us treated and our heads free and clear as quickly as possible. She was so patient, kind and gentle with our kids that they did great sitting to be fully treated. (Screen time helped too- but she brings a great detangler to help make sure her work doesn't hurt-- and her personality melts fears away.) She was glad to come back the next day to check my husband after he returned from a work trip too - and happily his head was fine. (Phew!) Eliana is easy and fun to talk to and great/knowledgeable at answering any question. She left us with a shampoo and essential oil to use for 15 days and will be back to recheck us after that time period.
